Stampede weekend a blockbuster With any luck the skies will have unloaded their spring deluge and it will be clear sailing for the 86th annual Williams Lake Stampede next weekend. The Stampede starts Friday, June 29 and runs through to Monday, June 2 this year. Friday evening the first performance rodeo starts at 6 p.m. with the family night performance and children under 12 getting in for free. Friday is also Wear Red Day to remember our armed forces and the opening ceremonies and grand entry will include the crowning of the 2012 royalty. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday the professional rodeo perfor-

Fred and Paddy Thomas will also be presented with lifetime passes. The Cariboo Cowgirls will perform at every opening ceremony. The popular mountain race and performances by Bert Davis, the Coppertown Clown, and Dog Show will also be part of every rodeo performance. The Stampede directors will be presented during the Sunday performance. This year’s valued

Stampede volunteers are Sherry and John Bullock. Sunday is also Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day to show support for women’s cancer research. Monday is also a family performance where children get in for free. There are all sorts of fun activities taking place in the Stampede Grounds and around the city during Stampede Weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings there will be entertainment in the Let ‘R Buck Saloon behind the Grandstand with the band Savage West. The events include ranch challenges at 3 p.m. Friday, and at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of western apparel and crafts available in the Bronc Buster Trade Fair behind the grandstands and no shortage of opportunities to eat on the run with Rotary Club breakfasts and dinners, Knights of Columbus pancake breakfasts and the Stampede concession open all weekend. And, of course, Stampede weekend wouldn’t be complete without the Stampede Parade on Saturday and Canada Day celebrations in Boitanio Park on Sunday.
