At the finish line on Friday’s Thermal Drive climb, surrounded by hundreds of cheering Tri-City residents, the Man in Motion, Rick Hansen watched as 18-year-old Tyrone Henry, a paraplegic and endurance athlete from Ottawa, broke through the finish line at Seymour Drive. Hansen lauded Henry, saying he is an example of someone who instead of giving up, chose to get involved.

Thermal Drive did not vanquish Rick Hansen nor any of his 25th anniversary relay team, who last Friday made their way up the winding hill like it was a Sunday stroll to a prairie church. But instead of sing-

ing hymns at the conclusion of the now almost mythic trek from Port Moody to Coquitlam, the gracious Hansen praised his “difference makers,” people who joined him in the mission to create a “healthy and inclusive world.” The jour ney from Cape Spear to Vancouver

over 12,000 km made by 7,000 medal bearers is one of determination and accomplishment, said Hansen, and a tribute to the original Man in Motion tour to raise awareness of spinal cord research a quarter century ago. see ‘IT’S IT S NOT JUST JUST’,, page A5
