WHO ARE WE? The Black Jaguar Foundation (BJF) was created to help realize the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor exclusively through forest restoration

The BJF is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is forest restoration. Together we create and connect fragments of native vegetation in the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor, the longest biodiversity corridor in the world. › 2.600 km long › Up to 40 km wide

AMAZÔNIA

The BJF positions itself as the main partner of landowners in the Corridor. It assists them throughout the entire process of reforestation. Especially for areas of land that should be protected by the Brazilian Forest Code, such as: › Legal Reserve (RL) › Permanent Preservation Areas (APP)

THE PREMISE

RESTORE TO COMPLY WITH THE LAW The Brazilian Forest Code

The Forest Code establishes that all Brazilian landowners must preserve or restore native vegetation on part of their property: › Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs): areas around springs and water courses.

›L egal Reserve (RL): part of the property (20% to 80% depending on the region of the country) In both these areas, where there is no native vegetation the owner must promote forest restoration.

By restoring the areas required by law, the landowner also leaves his legacy on the world as he or she will be contributing to: › Climate change mitigation › Maintenance of the natural rain cycle; › Conservation of thousands of plant and tree species

BJF partner owners are the true heroes of one of the world‘s largest restoration projects and contribute to a better future for their children.

HOW IT WORKS

RESTORATION WITH THE BJF The BJF is the landowner’s true partner

The Black Jaguar Foundation understands that forest restoration can be an onerous activity for the landowner. That‘s why it offers a package that pays for all the costs of the restoration.

In this partnership, the landowner is only responsible for making available the labor and agricultural equipment that he already owns.

HOW IS THE RESTORATION DONE? BJF‘s three tasks in the process of forest restoration

› Executive Project elaboration › Approval of Executive Project by each landowner 3. ECOLOGICIAL RESTOR ATION

› Forest restoration, including:

∙ Fence construction (when needed)

∙ Soil preparation

∙ Weeding and ant control

∙ Planting seedlings or seeds › Maintenance and monitoring of restored sites
