2023 LEADERSHIP It’s hard to believe how fast 2023 has gone and here we are again looking at all the amazing work and outreach that has transpired. As our visitor industry reached a new equilibrium, we continued to be one of the best places on earth that attracts the best visitors on earth! This is a direct result of the hard work our members are doing and the collaborative efforts made by all. Our membership grew, welcoming new businesses and faces to our team. Membership revenue was up and our members and community invested more in our Black Hills & Badlands and SD Vacation Guides. It’s inspiring to see the heritage of our tourism operators continue as they mentor and welcome new members. You are our future. We experienced new powerful partnerships, leveraging access to funding to extend our marketing efforts, more than doubling our spend value and reach. This helps build our success now and into the future; across our peak season, growth in our shoulder seasons and including new efforts for our regional and state motorcycle tourism. We couldn’t be more proud of the efforts of collaboration occurring in our business community to invite visitors to our great place. As you will see in this report, in-region spending remained about the same as last year, however, we saw increased in-person visitation to BHB member businesses for Attractions, Lodging, and Arts & Culture compared to a year ago. Visitation and length of stay to the Hills was also up. Most impressive was the significant increase in the unique visitor, indicating more new travelers are coming and spending their time with us. This indeed is great news! This truly is the best industry in the world and I am grateful to be a part. It is filled with positive people and hardworking folks. We are gifted to have such an incredible place to call home and invite guests to share it with us. It’s always so nice to hear how much fun they had and what great people they met along the way. That’s because of you! Thank you to all our members, the BH&B partnerships, and the South Dakota Department of Tourism for continuing to represent and promote our community and diverse and unique experiences.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings, First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude for your steadfast support of the Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association. It is through your partnership that we continue to flourish, leaving a positive impact on our region by driving economic growth and stimulating visitor spending through destination marketing initiatives. As we ventured into 2023, we did so with a sense of confidence and cautious optimism, fully committed to our mission. We continued to promote our unique region with enthusiasm, and with a goal of attracting visitors and directing them to our valued member businesses. Throughout the year, our core principles of collaboration, best practices, and thoughtful leadership continued to guide our actions. We began the ongoing process of implementing our strategic direction initiatives and used them as a catalyst for member engagement opportunities. Diligently, we evaluated, refined, and expanded the array of product offerings upon which our members rely. We also forged new ideas and partnerships, all designed to benefit our members and those who visit the region. The importance of data in our operations grew significantly, and we redoubled our efforts to enhance and implement this critical resource. In the subsequent pages of this report, you will gain insights into the strategic direction we charted. Additionally, you will find information on the economic impact of tourism in our region, accompanied by valuable data, a comprehensive overview of our marketing campaigns and tactics, and the approved budget for the upcoming fiscal year. None of our achievements in 2023 would have been possible without the dedication of our innovative and creative team, the support of our board and leadership, and the confidence of our membership. We are incredibly fortunate to be a part of this vibrant industry and to serve a remarkable group of members and partners. Your optimism, resiliency, and commitment to thriving inspire our entire region with a sense of boundless possibility. On behalf of the BH&B team, I thank you once again for your continued support. We recognize your role in making these accomplishments a reality, thus it is an honor to present this year's annual report. With gratitude,

MICHELLE THOMSON President & CEO
