DUAL CREDIT & TRANSFERABILITY

Start College Now

Public high school juniors and seniors who meet certain requirements may be eligible to take postsecondary courses at a Wisconsin technical college. Approved courses count toward high school graduation and college credit is earned. Tuition, fees, and books are covered by the school district.

Transcripted Credit

Experience a full college course through approved high school teachers who have access to college resources and mentors. Students will receive a college transcript as well as obtain both college and high school credit. This is offered at no cost to the student.

38.14 Contract

A 38.14 Contract allows high school students to gain college-level instruction from a college instructor. Both college-level credit and high school credit is earned. The high school and the technical colleges engage in the contract. The contract is paid by the school district.

Advanced Standing

Advanced Standing is also referred to as “Credit in Escrow.” The credit is activated when a student enters a program at the college. The college has an articulation agreement with the high school stating that one or more high school course(s) outcomes align to the first college-level course. No additional costs are incurred to the student or high school.

Transfer after BTC

Transferring to a four-year college has never been easier! Start your education at BTC and transfer to a four-year college to earn your bachelor’s degree. Transfer terms may vary per college due to number of credits, acceptable courses, type of degree, and more.

Blackhawk Technical College works with numerous four year colleges and universities to create pathways to earn your bachelor’s degree. Explore the many credit transfer agreements BTC has to offer!

ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM

Through Wisconsin’s Start College Now program, Shelby Ward took courses at Blackhawk while still in high school. She graduated from Clinton High School, earned her technical diploma in welding from Blackhawk, and received a job as a general laborer — all in the same year.

Start College Now: Jump Start on a Career

Taking college courses as a high school student pulled Ward out of a high school mindset and into a more adult one, she said, and Shelby’s mom, Katie Ward, said more students should take advantage of these dual enrollment programs to get a jump start on their careers. As a parent, it’s a good financial decision, and you get to see your children grow immensely, she said.

“They can walk right into a job with no debt,” Katie said. “I don’t have to worry about their future, and for Shelby, I don’t have the fear of her going into the world anymore. I’ve seen how much she has grown.”

14 | Visit: Blackhawk.edu
“I figured out what I like to do. Most people don’t know what they want, but I do think that the Start College Now program is a great way to get a few different skills under your belt.”

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING...

The benefits of attending college at a place like Blackhawk Technical College are unlimited. Many students understand the advantage of saving financially by attending a school that is close to home. At Blackhawk, you will find that classes are relevant to career paths and the smaller class sizes provide a more supportive environment to learn and grow.

ALEKS KABLAR

Rock County Internship Program

Milton High School

“The internship experience I had at Blackhawk has helped me learn more about the different types of marketing and given me the opportunity to network with people throughout the college and community. They have helped me discover the best fit for my future.”

TRAYVON CRAIN

“This internship will give me a better insight on what I need to improve or work on for my future job, as I’m going to be working with a team of educators, advisors, and other important members within this community who have more experience and a better understanding than I do.”

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS & ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE

A Solid Foundation to Get You Started

These new two-year degree programs provide you with the first two years of bachelor’s degree credit courses that will transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

An Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree will give you a solid general education foundation while focusing on the practical and relevant application of skills and knowledge needed to advance your career and prepare you for a bachelor’s degree.

Partnership with UW-Whitewater

Courses for both programs may be held on Blackhawk’s Central Campus or on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County. Upon completion of either program, you will earn either an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science from Blackhawk, and through these programs, you will have the opportunity to transfer to UW-Whitewater or any university or college of your choice.

Transferability of Credits

If you have a particular four-year institution in mind, it is important that you verify the transferability of credits to that college for graduation and for your major. If you have not selected a major field of study, enrolling in the liberal arts transfer program will give you exposure to several areas of study and a broad preparation for transfer.

Workforce & Community Development

Blackhawk’s Workforce & Community Development (WCD) team is the region’s one-stop resource for employee training, professional development, continuing educational opportunities and strategic partnerships. We are proud to provide flexible, affordable and relevant programs to our employers and communities.
