Hi from Vicky Lee It has been some time since I last wrote an editorial. I have just completed, almost, a three year break from publishing, during which time I lost both Steffan my partner at The WayOut Club and Sue Mills who for seven years was my advertising right hand. Both were whisked away by sudden and unexpected cancers and are sadly missed. This experience re-focused my mind and also brought me much closer to my life partner Lesley. It was clear to both of us that life is short and can end when you least expect it. Nothing must hold us back from fulfilling our dreams. During this break from publishing my focus turned to family and our goals. I have in this time designed and built a wonderful new home and a new life style an hour from the club in rural Hertfordshire. You can catch up with the story of our ‘Grand Design’ on my picture web blog www.greenlow.co.uk/bungalow.htm. A place with space to share our lives with Lesley’s parents sisters and their children including our nephew Jamie who is now old enough to regularly join us at The WayOut Club. Meanwhile, with the help of a great team, including Miss Sarah Lloyd, DJ Titch, Miss Kitten, Rik and Chrissie and Lesley, during this publishing break, The WayOut Club has gone from strength to strength, morphing as time will inevitably cause, but retaining its core strengths of diversity and performance. The main change in the club has been the confidence and quality of our regulars and their kindness and openness to newcomers from within and from outside the transgender world. I laid down some simple rules at the club back in 2006. They were... “no sexual acts or drugs on the

Proof of this came in June when the club was awarded the Sparkle TG award 2008 for “the best transgender nightclub”. Votes flooded in from all around the world for the pole carried out at www.sparkle.org. Furthermore and much to my surprise I was awarded personally the Sparkle TG award 2008 for service to the TG community. The award was also called a lifetime achievement award but, “hang on” my lifetime is not yet complete, so I have now set new goals to better my previous achievements. Lesley and I are now comfortably living in the new house and I now have time to build on the foundation of WayOut that I have previously devoted 15 years to. I have already overhauled www.thewayoutclub.com website, and I hope you are finding it easier to use and more interesting. I am now regularly updating this site with new pictures and news. I am also now running 'Vicky's Blog' on this web site that can be found from the front page news box. My blog is where I pass on my thoughts along with the best of a wide variety of opportunities that are constantly brought to my attention. These include opportunities fir you to get involved with television and magazine projects. Do keep a regular eye on it This edition of WOW magazine not only fulfills the need for an up to date window to our WayOut world, but also goes some way to address the requests I have received, to return to the 'Tranny Guide' format giving help to find events, shops, services and places to go. I am now considering returning to this published format annually. Let me know what you think... vicky@wayout-publishing.com If you are visiting anywhere that would like to distribute this magazine I would urge you to collect a batch any Saturday from the reception at The WayOut Club. I will mail small batches to those you recommend. This magazine also gives me the opportunity to thank all those that have supported The WayOut Club and to set out the coming years diary (on pages 28 & 29) and to thank and present just some of the amazing pictures taken at the club by our amazing photographer Rik ‘the lensman’. \ Now that this magazine is published my next project is to overhaul www.wayout-publishing.com website. This site in the future will have a library of free articles from previous ‘Tranny Guides’, plus new articles not previously published. The site will have a range of free to download magazines. But the prime objective of the site will be to introduce Books, Magazines, Videos CDs and DVDs that are of interest to the TG community for you to buy. I would welcome your help to find and recommend more books for me to represent. I will also be offering from this website, a package to help publish, represent and sell your own books. You can find out all about this in this magazine (on pages 14 to 17). My two websites will share the ‘Vicky’s Blog’ page and an overhauled and improved links page. My next WOW magazine is scheduled for the end of 2009 and until then I hope you will keep in touch by visiting my websites regularly and visiting The WayOut Club whenever you can. I look forward to hearing from you or see you soon in person

Whether during a light hearted, daytime flirt, or a sensual night time encounter, we TGirls surely have one common trait. The desire to be admired. We go to a lot of trouble getting our make-up right and choosing that special outfit – so, is it not right - that we should hope for a little attention and admiring comments?

ON THE PULL... A Photo Article By Andrea

Make Up by Josie at Adam & Eve Photos by Nina Kingston & Vincent Hymas – Pink on White Walls Photography 07968 759359

I think we dress the way we do because we like to think we would be fancied, (just a little maybe), by others, whether a good looking guy or a green eyed girl? Flirting and being seen as sexy, is all part of our “girl persona”, and what girl can resist the temptation of attracting a good looking guy onto their arm, especially when the “stiletto buzz” kicks in.

6

www.wayout-publishing.com transgender book shop

But it’s all about getting the balance right between maintaining our femininity and getting the right sort of attention. In terms of dressing – it’s quite simply a case of dressing for the occasion. It’s no use wearing your best party frock for a typical daytime outing. Or doing a “Christine Keeler” pose wearing PVC in your local café at lunchtime.

That’s not to say you can’t be glamorous and sexy in the right context. I just love wearing micro skirts and teetering high heels. I feel I can wear this look during the daytime, within reason, provided I tone down the rest of my outfit, and it certainly gets the guys interested.

Make Up by Josie at Adam & Eve Photos by Nina Kingston & Vincent Hymas – Pink on White Walls Photography 07968 759359

A bit of daytime fun attracting the guys as I teeter down Brick Lane at lunchtime is one thing – but when darkness falls flirting becomes far more purposeful. Going out night time clubbing (no matter what type of nightclub) is the way that everybody gets to flaunt it and put it about a little.

8

OK so you’ve chosen your outfit – you feel sexy in it, and long to be complimented. But what if you are chatted up – are you ready for it. We need to understand our limits and more importantly how we intend to respond if admiration becomes a little more “hands on”. Lets face it, underneath, many TGirls are hetro and are not intending to change their sexual preference or orientation, but if we do go out “On The Pull” it may possibly lead us to re-think our own limits and sexuality. I had a lovely guy come up to me at a club once, who asked “if I was in company” rather shocked I said “yes” – when really he would have been a great partner on the dance floor for that evening. I was just not then prepared for such attention. Now I’m more prepared for opportunities, just as well, as I simply love dressing to attract the guys on a night out. And during a daytime adventure I can’t resist trying to put “White Van Man” into a lamp post or at least to get a a toot on his hooter! So if you think your ready for the thrill of a little attention go for some night time clubbing, or try a little daytime flirting – you never know what’s around the next corner. And at the end of the day, “What If?” can be great fun, provided it’s in the context of our own boundaries, the occasion and the surroundings.

Vicky Lee is the host of The WayOut Club and since 1993 has met 100 to 200 people every week at the club. Over these years Vicky has seen many friends transition from male to female. She has seen many develop rounded creative lifestyles. While she has developed her own creativity merging the male and female in her own character and maintaining a 35 year relationship with her female partner. Vicky Lee started exploring the world of crossdressing and trans people in the late 80's and in 1993 published everything she knew in a book called 'The Transvestites Guide to London'. This book became, in 1995, an international book of listings and advice called colloquially 'The Tranny Guide' and referred to by many as "the trannies bible". The name 'The Tranny Guide' was adopted officially in 1996 and twelve editions were published, one each year, full of advice and articles. At a time before the internet, this series of books did a tremendous amount to expand awareness of the opportunities and scale of "transgender" activity and helped the transgender scene mature. In 2008 Vicky Lee was presented The 'Sparkle' TG award for lifetime achievement and contribution to the Transgender community, an award voted by thousands from all around the world. Vicky is an advisor to 'Forum Magazine' and has contributed to a number of authority 'Diversity Forums'. Vicky has now distilled her well qualified thoughts and advice into her new book HEorSHE? subtitled “The view is better when your on the fence. This subtitle is in reference to Vicky's belief that the duality of being transgendered provides an enhanced life experience - if you let it. In her book Vicky first answers many of the hardest questions Starting with a discussion about why it appears so important to ask when a baby is born, is it a He or She? Vicky goes on to explore why some people cross-dress and the terminology used to discuss the phenomena? Why some people are transgendered? How long has this been going on? and is there a cure?

In each section of the book Vicky adds relevant autobiography to support her conclusions and to further provide balance includes other peoples biography contributions. Vicky includes in her book, profiles of organisations and services that support those that crossdress and are transgendered. She gives her own advice on how to feminize the body and form an image that works with the way your mind works. She includes advice on sharing this image and this part of your character with others from close friends and family to like minded others in social situations. Vicky does not shy away from discussing the sexuality options that being transgendered offers, while making it clear that she believes that sexuality and gender are two very separate issues and in no way need to be connected.

These pictures are scans of actual page spreads from the book HEorSHE? by Vicky Lee

Vicky discusses the variety of ways that relationships can stay functional around a transgendered person, with more contributions from contributors and more of Vicky's own auto biography. Finally Vicky introduces a rarely discussed concept. She suggests with many colourful examples, that releasing the feminine can generate creativity, that would not have emerged constrained by stereotypical gender conditioning. The truly outstanding quality of pictures and the high standard of contributions to this 200 page, full colour, glossy book, combined with the experience, wit and candid writing of Vicky Lee herself, make this a book that any one remotely interested in the subject must have.

Gina Lance first came to my attention when I received from her, a copy of the classy Transgender Calendar that she had produced. The pictures and the quality of styling, models, location and costume were outstanding. When Gina followed this up with an equally high quality magazine 'Girl Talk', I was most impressed and felt that here was a person taking transgender to a higher level in the USA. Through the magazine's articles I saw Gina, time after time, put her self “up front” on television and many other media opportunities, offer a wholesome, open, honest face representing in the best possible light 1000s of transgendered girls who for ever reason were unable to step out of the closet in such a public way.

Girl Talk magazine covers and a few of the centre pages

In her magazines Gina never did “chicks with dicks” in her magazine, but at the same time, through editorial, agony column and articles, she promoted a non judgmental sisterhood, as inclusive of those who embrace cross-dressing as a hobby or lifestyle, as pre or post op transsexuals, and those more visually “out there” girls working in the adult and sex industry.

12

Instead of using the more obvious blatant sexual images, that will always sell on the top shelf, Gina's magazine oozed glamour and cheesecake taking inspiration from every genre of film and classy magazine. With a strong belief in what she was doing, working from her home base of Hollywood she drew on help from professionals to produce a unique photoshoot for each edition. Each of these was themed with scenery, props, costume, make-up. These professionals who contributed to these works of art whether connected to the TG scene or sucked in by her confident up front attitude gave exquisite work. Gina gave the chance for the 'girls' to keep their (designer) clothes ON for all to admire in the classiest photoshoots I have ever seen. I found Gina an inspiration. I knew I had to up my game and vowed to meet her, learn from her and congratulate her.

I did meet her in 2000 and spent a very enjoyable night with her at the infamous 'Queen Mary Show lounge' and later at a meal with her magazine's “staffers”. Gina confirmed she was aiming at the middle shelf in 'Wall-Mart' alongside 'Cosmopolitan' magazine. I could see that this was an expensive and risky approach which ultimately after 20 copies proved unsustainable. However on reflection, I put this down not to Gina's misjudgment but to the sudden change in America after 9/11. Before this date, TG confidence in the USA was growing rapidly and Gina was surfing the wave, but that day’s events shrank the hopes for a more accepting future to almost zero. I believe that the powerful men and millions of “Joe the plumbers” in the USA became overly twitchy about any kind of subversion seeing potential terror in any kind of “not normal” individual, which is of course how TG girls can be seen by the great unwashed. Lets face it girls, it is true that we could hide a sizable quantity of 'semtex' in an E cup bra. Lets give “Joe” the benefit of the doubt, maybe that's why he is scared of us. In George W's scary USA. This was not the time for Gina's “break through” magazine. Like so many others, Gina retreated to the internet where publishing costs are lower and the marketing less controlled. Now I am proud to offer you the book that Gina Lance has written called 'Get Dressed!'. It is the book of her life story with all its ups and downs. Nothing is held back, childhood, relationships, sexuality and all her practical problems (and joys) described and discussed. Everything from growing up transgendered though her experience of coming out of the closet. She details her adventures with the media on television and her work on 'Girl Talk' magazine. She includes her business highs and lows and how she climbed back out of financial and emotional difficulties to her present state of contentment and reflective success. The most unusual and therefore, I think, most interesting part of Gina's book, is the detail that she includes on how all the photoshoots were set up for each edition. The locations the faking, beg stealing and borrowing. The back-stories on the models and the make-up artistes. To finish the book Gina includes her opinion, thoughts and advice on many of the major issues that concern any one who is transgendered. Summery: 120 pages with colour picture insert. A piece of transgender history. A view from the USA perspective. A unique and unusual transgender life story from a celebrated transvestite view point. Good clear useful advise. Inspiring. This book is a must read.

If I take a moment to relax, my choice of book will almost always be a biography. I find I learn more about history, politics, the arts, love life and the true meanings of the universe by reading a diverse range of biographies. My bookshelf heaves with books about musicians, film stars, politicians and of course quite a few 'trannies'.

fulfill his last promise to her. He had promised to “print her book”. I visited him to see her manuscript there in her house was her inspiration, shelves heavy with biographies. Her manuscript was not on computer, but after reading it I could see a good style and certainly a book the couples family and friends would cherish.

Over 20 years I have met 1000's of amazing people through the 'transgender scene', and so many of these people while talking about their experiences have said, “My life story would make a good book”.

After lengthy research I was able, due to amazing advances in technology, to offer the gentleman facility to print any quantity of paperback books with (in his case)100 black and white pages and a glossy colour cover perfect bound like 'The Tranny Guide'. That is - one copy or thousands at a cost of less than £3.00 per book, after an initial set up cost of less than £200. We went ahead and were thrilled with the quality of the one-off sample. We went on to order first 30 copies then 20 then 10 more. For a fee of £10 per year we have insured that further copies can be printed at the per book price in the future.

Those that have read my book HE or SHE? Have often said how much they enjoyed the autobiographical sections of my book. I have to say that writing these sections brought back a wealth of thoughts and experience some pleasant and others not so pleasant. I found that knowing these thoughts were down on the page was a great weight off my mind. Pleasant thoughts were now safe and would not be “lost” and unpleasant thoughts were exorcised purged and to a large degree forgiven, laying down ghosts, as I laid down words on the page. It was a cathartic experience. I found it to be therapy for my soul writing these pages. Readers of HE or SHE? have gone on to say that these pieces of autobiography were their favorite sections and that they would like a book that concentrates more fully on my life story. I have published fourteen books and many magazines at a high investment cost in the £1000's, storing the 1000's of books in stock, often paying for storage space. By the nature of the publications, I have been lucky to obtain advertising support to absorb some of this cost. If however I was to pour 'my life story' into an autobiography I could not expect the level of advertising support and therefore the cost has always been prohibitive. Until now … In 2007 I met a gentleman who was grieving his wife, he had recently lost her after her battle with a terminal illness. During her last year she kept her spirits up by writing her families life story. He asked me as, “a publisher”, to

On presenting a box of books to my gentleman, it was a joy to see his tears that brought closure to a promise made with such love to his wife. I feel ready now, as time allows, to write my life story in full in the knowledge that I will be able to afford to print a small quantity that I will give to special friends and family and offer through my website shop and my future magazines. I am now ready to offer YOU the following deal : Send me your manuscript and I will return my comment and advice and a price to set up the publication of your book, plus a price per book. This will include typing, editing, proofing and computer preparation, if required. I will supply you with whatever quantities of books you require personally, when you want them, at the per book price. I will also offer, to buy a small stock of your book, to review it and to represent it in my web site shop www.wayout-publishing.com. In the following pages you will read My Story' by Allison Smith. In itself an interesting story that has already grabbed the attention of magazines and television. While reading it I felt that I could feel the therapy that Allison was gaining while writing and when I rung to discuss the article, Allison disclosed that indeed tears flowed as she wrote, but she agreed, as in my previous examples the relief of closure is almost instant as the words and thoughts are set down for others to read and share. Allison's story is full of adversity, fear, grief and unconditional love. It is a very human story offering hope for others. It is a “tranny story” with a background like many others but because of its layers, range and depth I think it has importance and that’s why I chose it to share with you.

Hi Vicky, My story below details how, having given up my career to look after my wife 24/7, for 10years, until she died, I was abandoned by the state in a precarious financial position [despite saving the taxpayer a lot of money]. At about the same time my step-daughter, Sally, was abandoned with four teen age kids. Sally and I adopted an unorthodox course to help meet our needs.

a brilliant hairdresser and I had a small company specializing in graphic design and screen printing. However, so much for plans! Within five weeks of our marriage Shirl had an anaphylaxic shock during an asthma attack and suffered brain damage. For a while it was touch and go as to whether she would survive, and then if she did, how would she come out of it? From being a highly skilled hairdresser she had been a pupil of Vidal Sassoon and head of the Beauty and Hairdressing Department at Bromsgrove College at the age of 26 - she was just a shaking body unable to speak, walk or even pick up a pair of scissors. There then followed five years of slow but steady recovery. She was perpetually in pain but had the guts and determination to fight it. By the time the wonderful staff at The National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in Queens Square, London had finished with her she was able to walk out of the hospital on my arm. Although she was far from well, from then on we made the most of the time together that we never thought that we would have had. She sold her business. As time went on her health started to deteriorate, not due to the brain damage, but due to her asthma. She was not able to move around as well as she previously did and I was having to spend more time looking after her so in 1997 we made the decision that I would give up my business and look after her full time. It was something that I never ever regretted for one second.

At 62 I guess I must be a bit too long in the tooth to be called a t-girl but I look upon it as my last chance to at least go for it and try and look the part. Although, as with most of us, I have been a t-girl all my life my domestic circumstances precluded me from dressing very often and despite that urge being unbearably strong at times I was happy to carry on without it. Why? Because I loved my wife so very much and for the last ten years of our marriage I cared for her 24/7 without a break of more than a day or so. I would not have swapped it for anything. We married in 1985 and our plan was to work as hard as we could for ten years to earn enough money to retire on. Shirl [my wife] was

16

My only regret was that, instead of selling my business I gave it to our out of work son-inlaw. Shirl had had a daughter, Sally before we married. Sadly it turned out to be a bad move as within less than a year he had run it into the ground. We took it on the chin. As we were now together all of the time we looked for things that we could do as a couple and came up with writing books spending many happy years researching and writing them. It was also during this period that I decided to bite the bullet and tell her about my trannyism. I really did not know what reaction to expect but I suppose that in reality I need not have worried. Her love for me was unconditional and despite her saying otherwise I decided not to dress in front of her as I knew how much it hurt her inside. So, some thirty years or so

since I first had this tranny urge I was finally able to become Allison. I restricted it to just a couple of days each year [when I could get someone in to look after Shirl for a few hours]. I went for makeovers and photo shoots accumulating a wardrobe and a decent set of pix with which to start a website and began networking with other t-girls. During this time (at no fault of Sally’s) we hardly saw anything of my daughter in law which was heartbreaking for Shirl but just before Christmas in 2006 she received a 'phone call. It was from Sal. She was on the edge of a nervous breakdown her husband had left her and her four teenaged kids. She was afraid to ring her mom in case she thought that she did not love her. How much more wrong could she have been? From then on they were inseparable and it was so lovely to see. I had not seen Shirl looking so happy, at last she was united with her daughter and her grandchildren And just in time too! Less than eight months later Shirl died. But now she was surrounded by her family and knew that they loved her as much as she loved us. Her death was a total shock, it was completely unexpected. It was not unusual for her to go in to hospital for a few days to get her wheezing sorted out but this time I was just poleaxed when the specialist in A&E took me to one side and told me she had very little chance of survival! She had pneumonia and bronchitis, but more than that she had chronic obstructive airways disease. Shirl had stopped smoking more than twenty years previously but it was this that finally killed her and not the brain damage. As devastating as Shirl's death was, I now had other things to worry about. As I had been a full time carer I was unable to work and when she died all the benefits that we had existed on stopped. I was 61 and getting a job at that age, even with qualifications, was impossible. So Sally and I put our heads together and concluded that I may be able to earn some sort of living through the t-girl community. Sal took after her mum and was a really good make up artist and we now had a decent sized house with just me in it and a redundant garage. So 'Ally's Place' evolved; a t-girl resource in south Birmingham (even with its

My Story By Allison Smith very own mediaeval style dungeon for fetishbondage enthusiasts). To build on this and try and gain a bit more income we sold our story and it appeared in the magazine 'Chat'. Virgin 1 picked it up and filmed us, for part of a programme called “Kinky and Proud” and just after that I received a phone call from Channel 5. So the dungeon, Nikki and Leanna, a couple of my t-girl friends, and I will be appearing in “Help, I have a High Maintenance Sex Life” due for screening soon... Thus I will have had my 15 minutes of fame! Of course I can now dress as often as I like and be Allison for as long as I like. I am so thankful that Allison and the t-girl scene helps me to deflect the pain of my loss but much as it appeals to me and is so enjoyable I would never ever have swapped being with Shirl for it. Through her I have found the true meaning of life. It is not earning shed loads of cash or having a great career - it is having the privilege of taking care of someone you truly love. www.allison-smith.net Ally's Place 07786 361 063

A number of years ago I wrote an article suggesting that falsifying your details to a bank in order to obtain a credit card in an alternative name / gender was NOT a good idea. I suggested that a better and safer route was to ask the bank to remove the gender designation leaving just the initials and surname. With this card you could safely offer your card without the risk of a business withholding your card and possibly calling the police as they have assumed you are not the gender of the card holder and therefore the card is stolen. My thoughts are now not so clear.

However here is a MUCH bigger intrusion and immediate loss of civil liberty. Many police and licensing authorities are now insisting that to retain a drinks/dancing/public music license, venues MUST install ID scanners. These machines are already cropping up all over the country initially at late night venues. But just watch them proliferate. Vicky Lee forecasts you soon won't get into a bar, cinema, shopping mall, café, without your ID being scanned. These systems scan your official ID, (currently 388 different forms of ID are accepted)

YOUR LIBERTY TO WEAR WHAT YOU WANT TO WEAR TO BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE even for just one night ...

NOW OFFICIALLY AT RISK From this. The Biometric ID Scanner ... In 2008 as far as I am concerned the sh-one-t has hit the fan. Gordon Brown and his current government are prepared come hell or high water, (how prophetic can I get), to force through their £4.7billion ID system. These cards are now being issued to people entering the UK from outside the EEC, and students and spouses from non EEC renewing visas, will be issued with them from November. It is planned to “offer” these ID cards to young people from 2010 and the general public from 2011. Now straight away it has to be noted that the Conservative party and the Lib Dem party both say they will reverse this decision and scrap the scheme. The government and industry has been advised that any contracts agreed to run the ID scheme must be designed for this possibility and to ignore this “would be reckless in the extreme”. BIOMETRIC CHIP holds personal electronic record, finger prints etc

MACHINE READABLE ZONE allows more information to be read by scanner

i.e driving license or passport is passed through the scanner. The system then holds your age, gender, address, etc including biometrics currently fingerprints (how long before DNA). The police expect, if called to a venue, to any incident, to immediately ask for those involved to be identified on the system. These individuals can then flagged up to ALL venues for a universal ban to be enforced. How widely will this system be implemented? The police and the licensing authorities have a big hammer to force this “voluntary” system into venues, no scanner - no license. And then the venue has a big hammer, no ID - no entry. So what happens when in your best frock makeup and wig you turn up at a venue operating such a system with no picture ID? You will be required to offer an official ID, such as credit card, and fill out an on-screen questionnaire whereupon your image will be captured on camera and added to your record. Now very obviously for any one to enter a gay venue through an ID scanning system you have to ask the question “am I happy to be identified as (at the very least) a gay venue customer”? In the same way a man visiting a tranny club may worry about a record of “being interested

in a trans club”. The worries for a tranny are obviously many. I have not got an ID that matches my image. My ID will give away my gender. The scan will record me as trans. My alter ego image will be linked to my home address. There is one other fluffier factor to worry about for many of us 'T-Girls” - we can often look radically different from visit to visit, with different wigs, makeup etc.

In the summer of 2008 Charlie's owners and management were informed that an ID scanner system was a requirement to retain their licenses. Charlie's management and Vicky Lee immediately negotiated an exception for The WayOut Club to this obligation based on the record and relationship with the authorities. Charlie's will be using the ID scanning system during the week but NOT on Saturdays for The WayOut Club.

COMING TO A VENUE NEAR YOU SOON The Biometric ID Scanner ... But with YOUR help ... The WayOut Club has been at their venue NOT at The WayOut Club Charlie's, in the City of London for over 10 years. During this time the number of incidents where security have had to eject people have been absolutely minimal. The number of times the police have been called to WayOut can be counted on one hand and that includes the occasion when (70 year plus) Bobby fell off the bar stool and hit her head on the floor, needing an ambulance. During these 10 years Vicky Lee has served a year on the Metropolitan Police LGBT advisory group and one year on the City of London Police diversity advisory group. Currently serving on the City advisory group is Josie, who has long been a WayOut regular, who has now fully transitioned and works as a law professional. Vicky Lee has always seen this work as two edged. Being not only the chance to inform and to influence policy and decision making, but also to make personal acquaintances to discuss in details policies that actually effect The WayOut Club. Unlike venues that welcome trans girls to join their regular clientele. The WayOut Club has always been an independent promotion. Only those that want to come to WayOut come to the club. We decide who enters WayOut. We do not share the venue with any other promoters or the general customers of Charlie's. Therefore we are in a position to clearly define ourselves, as a special case, deserving special consideration.

22

We ask you to respect this exception and to help us maintain this status quo by, (as always), helping us “self police” ourselves, inside and around the club, not drawing attention to ourselves. Simply park your cars carefully, enter and leave quietly, respect and avoid counter play with the few public passers by, respect each other in the club, and if asked to leave for example, if you had a few too many, annoyed someone, fallen asleep. Leave quietly and politely. WayOut will also continue our cloak ticket policy - if you lose your cloakroom ticket then describe in detail your property or retrieve it at the end of the evening. That’s worked for us for 15 years CLOAK ROOM OVER - KILL COMING TO A VENUE NEAR YOU ... ‘Cloakscan’ the world's first biometric cloakroom ticket system. Cloakscan quickly registers a fingerprint as customers leave their personal belongings. Simultaneously, it records a video still of the transaction and issue an optional VAT receipt. (that will save you 17.5 pence the system costs £10k ed). It then recognises the fingerprint when the customer returns and provides an image of the original transaction. It thus ensures complete peace of mind for guests and staff.

Developed to eradicate the loss of cloakroom tickets, Cloakscan's cutting-edge software also prevents cloakroom bottlenecks due to its incredible rapidity. What's more, its astounding accuracy means customer upsets concerning misplaced coats and bags is a thing of the past. Tamlyn Thompson, director of IDscan, says: “Gone are the days of lost cloakroom tickets, stolen property, fraudulent receipts” Thanks to the latest touch-screen technology, it is quick and easy to process each item. Multiple users can log on at the same time, so large establishments can link cloakroom information. Bakers Lounge Bar and Nightclub in Southend-on-Sea is the world's first venue to use the system. Its general manager, Ian Thomas, says: “Even in the height of the summer, we had at least one customer per night with a lost coat receipt. Our policy is that the customer must wait until the end of the night to recover their item. You can imagine how agitated and frustrated some customers can become. “Since installing Cloakscan we have not had a single incident. ” The unique biometric software can also produce reports and graphics - so managers are able to keep track of exactly how many items are stored on their premises and where they are located. This information is crucial for insurance claims. And you only paid £1 to give your ID to the user of this equipment and every one linked to the system. I prefer to shiver my tits off and leave my coat in the car thanks.

Introduction by Vicky Lee Since 1993 I have published, annually, twelve editions of 'The Tranny Guide'. The 12th was the last I published in 2004. Followed by Transgender AtoZ in 2005 which was backed by an interactive web site. However I have been asked throughout my two year break to return to the original format - so here then is your Mini UK Tranny Guide which I researched and checked during October 2008. This is by no way an exhaustive listing but aims to give you a good starting point to find shops, services and places to go in most areas. We also try to cover the harder to buy essentials. Those listed especially welcomes trans customers and are comparatively well attended. For more services we recommend asking those listed in our guide, about their local area.

Editorial Comment ... It greatly surprises me that in comparison to those 1993, pre internet, pre mobile phone days the scene, in London at least, appears to have shrunk. Despite the fact that in 1993 it was so hard to find your way around the scene, (a scene that had not yet even named it self 'transgendered'), there appeared to be more opportunities. We had Ron Stormes, The Philbeach, Trans-mission, all specifically providing nights for trannies and respectful friends. We had dressing services, Annes at The Philbeach, and Linda Edwards in the docklands. Of course, as then, much of the gay scene has always offered a friendly if somewhat bemused welcome to trannies. Now in London, QX and Boyz magazines are available free in all Soho bars and are available on-line from their web sites with details of all the London opportunities. Although many gay promotions encourage colorful glamour drag, most, still, are puzzled by convincing girl next door, heterosexual trannies and granny trannies. To “come out” as gay, it appears, is still easier and better supported than coming out as transgendered - yet I believe there are a growing number of gay guys understanding themselves to be transgendered as well as gay and exploring their own gender as well as sexuality. I am certain, that if only for the reason that the population of London has grown, that there are far more people in the city with trans feelings and needs. Maybe the reason for the apparent invisibility of the London TG scene, is that the internet has helped a new generation of young 'trannies' to find networks, confidence, grooming and styling advice and virtual experiences. With this informed background their first “real life - out of the closet” adventure is more likely to be a good positive experience. With a network of friends from the internet like “The Angels” a trip out to a “straight” venue are no longer daunting. Good size Tgirl groups can be seen, looking their fabulous best, in classy venues around town. Services such as 'The Boudoir' and 'Adam & Eve' support such trips charging a fee for make-up and styling help, transport and group escorting. Jodie and her “Boudettes” have an extensive, year round, diary of events including west end theatre, top class restaurants, national events within the TG scene as well as public events like ladies day at Royal Ascot. Jodie even takes groups overseas to NYC and Miami. So it appears that the sky is the limit for today's confident trannies. We have been told for years that most trannies are heterosexual, dressing not to attract sex with men, but to exercise their femininity while their sexuality stays as

fixed or as fluid as any non trans person. However over the last few years there appears to be a growing number of Tgirls visiting swingers clubs which are offering a welcome to T-Girls along side the opportunity to have sex in the venue with all comers. These swingers clubs appear to have a growing TG following. Another aspect that has influenced this phenomena is that there are now far more guys actively searching out T-Girl company. This is a new young, good looking, confident breed of admirer who may not talk or think in terms of bisexuality but knows what he wants. Meanwhile The WayOut Club in London every Saturday remains a safe, fun, place for all. A safe home for all Trans people, partners, family, as well as male and female admirers, where sex and drugs are not allowed on the premises. Where dancing, flirting, and entertainment, make for a memorable night out. Where Tgirls from all around the planet make an effort to visit. Where social intercourse is very much encouraged and where thousands have found their way out of the closet and where some have found life change, loved ones and life partners.

Manchester ... The area on and around Canal Street refered to as the “Gay Village” is highly recommended. Every bar is gay run and friendly. The area is policed in close association with LGBT guidelines. The area is the home of ‘Sparkle’ transgender celebration every July. Due to the regular Northern Concord meeting every Wednesday, this has traditionaly been the prime night for Tgirls to hit the village street - but every night is busy and friendly. Friday and Saturday night attracts more straight girls and boys who can be a handfull. Although generaly well intentioned, be prepared on the street to cope with their overconfident impertinant questions. But in the bars this is unlikely to happen as the venues are well managed with good security. Miss Dee Chanelle’s Miss TS International pageant reaches it’s Diamond Year in 2009 The 5 year search is over for the the biggest transgender pageant in the UK! Miss TS Diamond is now scheduled for late summer of 2009 to bring to you the ten winning beauty queens of Miss TS International from 2004 to 2008. This of course includes Miss Vivienne Robles Lacson (Venezuela- 2004) Miss Asunta Mae (Pakistan-2005) Miss Carmen Regine Contfait (Seychelles- 2006) Miss Ruby Bella Cruz (Costa Rica- 2007) and the newly crowned Miss Mika Mae Dela Vega (Italy-2008). The 1st runners-up are also guaranteed candidates . Miss TS International pageant has been the inspiration of energetic chanteuse Miss Dee Chanelle who has organised and hosted the event for these five years. She has provided a platform for transsexuals to present themselves in glorious costumes some of which have been spectacular over the years. From national costumes through fantasy wear to sexy black lingerie to glamourous gowns, this has ben a modern day pageant with a very unique twist. Miss Mika is the latest to be crowned, as Miss TS International 2008 on 23rd November at London’s ‘Heaven’ nightclub, in the same year that she was a ‘Miss Alternative London’ winner. She impressed the board of judges including WayOut’s Miss Vicky Lee and journalist and author of the hit "Shameless" Mr Paul Burston from beginning to end. Miss TS Mexico, Marianne Rivera also secured a Diamond spot by winning the 1st runner-up title. The event was an immense success with great support from the LGBT community, admirers, family and friends. Miss TS Diamond promises to be the ultimate spectacular with special guest performances from Miss Dee, herself, Farrah Mills, Jamie Lee, Toni, Jelissa Jaconi, Taura May and many other performers and surprise guests. You really must make every effort to be at this event. For dates and details of this event check out the ‘Diamond Collection’ at www.bml-pageants.com Photographs by Meantime Productions Ltd

Miss Sahhara’s Queen of Nations Beauty Brains & Creativity an annual three day contest & Transgender Celebration For the third year, a once oppressed minority of women celebrated their growing emancipation through a platform for transgendered girls to confidently express themselves as talented, intelligent, and creative individuals in a week of events in central London.. The Queen of Nations Pageant is a glamorous spectacle of femininity and beauty brought to you by Miss Sahhara. Yes this is the same amazing friend to the stars who is a stylist, (move over Gok Wan), catwalk choreographer, transgender supermodel who also brings you Mask a free magazine at www.maskuk.co.uk. The pageant requires all the contestants to be current winners, runner-ups and award winners of a transgender pageant from anywhere around the world. So that all are practiced at presenting pageant winning beauty, glamour and a certain feminine ‘je nes se qua’. ( Well ... that's why the girls have all been entering Alternative Miss London at the WayOut Club ). The three stages of the contest this year started with a talent contest which was held at ‘Madam Jo Jo’s’ on the 16th June. On 18th June the contestants fought it out on the catwalk at the cellubrious ‘Soho Revue Bar’. For the Grand Finale the circus moved on to ‘The Bloomsbury Theatre’ where each contestant was required to represent the country of her choice. The show was hosted by Richard and Lea (Dicky and Dolly), ex Big Brother contestants and presenters of the Morning Show on Gaydar Radio. Belly dancers, Drag and R&B performances interspersed the pageant and the winners were picked by a host of V.I.P. celebrity judges. The contestants paraded in introduction wear, national costumes, swim wear, and evening gown. Finally Miss Sophia Logan who represented Venezuela won the Title Queen Of Nations 2008. She received her crown from 2009 winner Miss Amanda De Leon who represented her families home The Philippines. I am sure that Sophia will be appearing in Mask Magazine as did previous winner Amanda. If you would like to get involved in the 2009 event (and you should), or you want to get along to see the three stages of the next event go to www.queenofnations.com and you can email Sahhara at: queenofnations@yahoo.com
