On a sun-drenched day in the city sometime during the school holidays, I stood at the base of a bronze statue. It was raised up on a concrete plinth and the bright rays cast the shape of an armoured man in perfect silhouette. At his feet, just above my eye level, his lance pierced the head of a dragon. Its eyes were rolled back and its tongue was hanging out. It had caused a lot of pain and suffering, but it didn’t seem as big as the monster described in the legends. That’s how I remember it anyway.
