PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Every single Alpha product is created and developed to deliver the best quality performance in its category.
However, we know quality doesn’t just start and end with performance. Quality is about the excellence of the materials used, how it was developed and manufactured, whether all features are precise, and how well the product meets customer expectations. All Alpha products are developed in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Then we work with a worldwide manufacturer that is best suited for that product range and has the materials required to ensure success.
Once manufactured, our products are tested by our expert product development team in Newcastle to make sure they meet development specifications and performance requirements before released to market.
90% of Alpha products are then finalised, packaged and shipped from our Newcastle facility.
We
are revolutionising onsite cutting and drilling processes by producing game-changing power tool accessories that get the job done fast with no fuss.

Left Hand Drills
HOW TO USE
1 Centre punch the broken fastener.
2 Drill into the damaged fastener in reverse using the appropriate left hand drill size.
3 If the bolt does not reverse out, change to a larger size left hand drill. Most fasteners spin out before the hole drilling operation is finished.
4 The drill will grab the bolt when breaking through the backside. Typically, this is the stage when the broken fastener will spin out of the threaded hole.
5 If the drilling operation fails, a screw extractor will be required. The hole drilled forms a pilot hole for the screw extractor.
HOW TO USE
1 Centre punch the broken fastener.
2 Create a pilot hole by drilling into the bolt or screw in reverse using the appropriate left hand drill size.
3 If required, drill the hole out larger with a left hand drill, as this may be enough to remove the fastener without a screw extractor.
4 Select the correct screw extractor size.
5 With a tap wrench or spanner turn the screw extractor into the hole in an anti-clockwise direction. Continue turning until the stud is removed.

The MultiSink® is a worldwide unique new Combination Countersink Tool designed and developed for use with magnetic drills. The tool is designed to combine with the VersaDrive product range to broach and countersink, drill and countersink, tap and countersink or even drill, tap and countersink in one operation - providing huge time-saving benefits.
The MultiSink® is available in HSS and TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) versions. The HSS MultiSink® features a Titanium nitride coating which reduces heat and increases lubricity for extended life whilst the TCT version is specifically designed for countersinking Inox and the hardest structural steels.
• Innovative combination countersinking tool
• Save time completing countersunk holes
• Broach & countersink in one operation
• Operations involving tapping require a magnet drill with variable speed & reverse features
• For pre-drilled holes, the MultiSink® should always be used with a pilot to avoid damage
• When used to drill or broach & countersink or for multiple operations e.g. drill/tap/ countersink, it is important to use the correct RPM for each separate operation
• Drill & countersink in one operation
• Tap & countersink in one operation
• Drill, tap & countersink in one operation

SINKS
COUNTERSINK FEEDS & SPEEDS
To determine optimum speed, start at the lower end of the speed range, then increase the speed until performance is maximised. It is important not to operate at an excessive RPM as chattering may occur and the cutting area can overheat and become prematurely dull.
TIP: Countersinking should generally be performed slower than calculated RPM, sometimes at 25% of the surface speed depending on material/machining conditions.
Countersink RPM Selection using the 1/3rd Rule:
Using the simple rule of 1/3 of the speed of the countersink diameter, will work for most countersinking and counterboring operations. Simply divide the recommended RPM for the Diameter by 3.
= 1000 x Vc π x D Countersink RPM formula
Vc= Surface Speed m/min
π = 3.14
D= Tool Diameter
For example, to cut aluminium with a 20.5mm 3 flute countersink
1000 x 61
3.14 x 20.5 = 947.64 RPM
Now use the 1/3rd rule:
Divide 947.64 by 3
947.64 ÷ 3 = 315.88
Countersink RPM 315.88

Plus & SDS Max bits in hammer drills
Modern heavy rotary hammer drills have an impact force of 19 joules and more, so it is important to use the right tool for the desired outcome. Complex applications, such as drilling on reinforcement, require specific handling of tools and machines.
These recommendations ensure that the user gets the best possible drilling results for the most diverse applications (material, diameter, drilling depth etc) as well as the maximum service life of tool and machine.
REINFORCEMENT DRILLING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAMMER DRILLING STOP
1. Regular ventilation, i.e. remove additional drilling dust by pulling the drill out of the hole in order to avoid clogging and overheating.
2. Clean the drill bit regularly and clean and grease the drill chuck of the machine from residues (thread grease). Especially with large diameters and strong machines, a lack of lubrication can cause heat damage to the tool and the machine or even complete failure (welding of the tool with the chuck as well as shank breakage).
3. Regular, professional maintenance of the machine.
4. Follow the drilling progress of the machine, i.e. do not exert any vertical or lateral pressure on the drill (risk of breakage due to unbalance/bend).
5. Use appropriate PPE for hearing, vision and respiratory.
6. Use of hammer drills with smaller diameters (12 - 25 mm): reduction of impact force according to diameter.

7/16″ QUICK CHANGE
Heavy Duty Auger Bits
Single twist bits, easily recognised by their lack of a central core, quite often do not have a guide screw or gimlet point. Their Scotch pattern spurs are capable of guiding the bit reliably through the boring process without imperfections in the wood causing deviations.

Scotch Auger Bits
Scotch pattern spurs are part of the web of the auger and the lips slope upwards towards them, meaning that the circumference of the bore hole is cut out after the lips begin to carve out the main part of the bore hole.

The flute form, web thickness and split point of the standard Alpha drills are suitable for most materials producing fine chips. For effective drilling, the rigidity of the drill and work piece are most important. The shorter the flute length, the more rigid the drill. Long drills must be adequately supported to reduce vibration.
The following are important in drill use:
• Clamp the work-piece securely
• Select the correct speed & feed
• Use an appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication
• Ensure the shank is securely held. Avoid using worn sockets or drill chucks as the drill may slip during use
• Regrind the point or replace the drill before it dulls, do not force a worn drill
• When deep hole drilling, withdraw frequently to clear the chips, deep holes start at 4 times diameter
• When drilling stainless steel, manganese & high tensile steels, it is recommended to use an automatic feed throughout the drilling cycle
• Do not allow the drill to dwell as it will cause work-hardening; use a slower speed & heavier feed on these materials
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAMMER DRILLING
Core Bit Instructions
Step 1
When not using a drilling guide, start with a 45° angle to avoid the drill slipping.
Step 3
Apply light pressure when drilling, making circular movements to allow for dust clearing.
Dressing Stone Instructions
To prevent clogging and prolong life of the core bit, drill into the dressing stone after use.
Step 2
Gradually straighten to 90° once the drill is penetrating.
Step 4
Remove core bit after drilling.
Drilling Instructions
Alpha straight shank multi-purpose drill bits are suitable for sub-surface drilling and anchor fixing.
TRADIE TIP
To extend product life, if smoke appears while dry drilling, cease drilling and quench the tip and hole with water.
Impact Step Drills Guide
Best Practice Advice
Step drills are not designed to drill a new hole, rather enlarge an existing one.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut.
Follow guidelines to set correct torque/RPM speed. Incorrect torque/RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage. When drilling stainless steel and harder materials, a lower RPM is recommended.
Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool.
Ensure regular application of quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra cutting fluid.
When drilling into box section ensure the tip of the Step drill is not contacting the far side of the box section at the same time it is drilling the outside wall. This may cause breakage to the tool.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
Impact Reamers Guide
Best Practice Advice
Follow guidelines to set correct torque/ RPM speed. Incorrect torque/RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut, applying the feed very slowly and cautiously during the first 1mm of cut.
Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool.
Ensure regular application of quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Flame cut, laser cut or punched holes may not be possible to ream with impact wrench. In this situation ream with a slow speed magnet drill.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
To maximise tool life do not attempt to increase the existing hole diameter beyond 2mm. If a larger, finished hole size is required, then the next size reamer should be used to ‘step up’ until the finished hole diameter is reached.
Never run a reamer in reverse, this will prematurely make the tool blunt.
TurboTip® Drill Bits Guide
Follow guidelines to set correct torque/ RPM speed. Incorrect torque/RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut.
Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool.
Ensure regular application of quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra cutting fluid.
VersaDrive TurboTip®s can be used without piloting at all sizes.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
Cobalt Drill Bits Guide
Best Practice Advice
Follow guidelines to set correct torque/ RPM speed. Incorrect torque/RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.

ImpactaTaps® Guide
Best Practice Advice
ImpactaTaps® are recommended for through hole applications only.
Spiral flute taps are designed for blind hole applications.
Pilot drill the exact tapping size hole for best results.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut.
Ensure the tap is inserted squarely to the hole - poorly aligned or off-centre taps will greatly increase the risk of breakage.
Select the correct torque power for impact wrench/drivers using the data range above. If exact match is not available select the closest torque setting above the recommendation. Regularly apply quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra cutting fluid.
Flame cut/punched holes will require more torque to tap than drilled holes due to heat build up. Caution: Sometimes flame cut holes do not have parallel sides meaning risk of tap breakage. This application may also reduce tool life.
Tap the hole in one pass where possible, applying adequate lubrication before you start. For thicker materials above 25mm multiple passes may be required (to clean out swarf and re-lubricate tap).
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
If the tap is over-run from the hole once it is tapped, to remove the risk of crossthreading/damage to the tap, remove the tap from the adapter and locate it in the thread by hand, before reversing. When re-threading an existing thread, use caution to avoid cross-threading which can lead to tap breakage or thread damage. It is advisable to insert/ start the tap into the thread by hand before driving it through at the correct torque.
Combi Drill Taps & Heavy Duty ImpactaTaps® Drill Taps Guide
Best Practice Advice
Impact Drill Taps are recommended for through hole applications only. Follow guidelines to set correct torque/RPM speed. Incorrect torque/RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.
Pilot drill the exact tapping size hole for best results (HD variant when used with an impact wrench).
Select correct Nm torque power for impact wrench applications.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut.
Ensure the tap is inserted squarely to the hole - misaligned taps will greatly increase the risk of breakage.
When tapping material thicker than 15-20mm, to speed up the process it is advisable to pilot drill the hole first, before drill-tapping the hole.
Ensure regular application of quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra cutting fluid.
301125- Sheet Metal Drill-Taps are intended for tapping material no greater than the tap diameter when driven with an impact wrench.
301130- Heavy Duty Drill Taps are designed for use with magnet drills/ Pillar Drills, or for tapping pre-drilled holes with an impact wrench. They are not designed for drill-tapping with handheld rotary tools.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
Combination DrillSinks Guide
Best Practice Advice
The DrillSink should be used with a variable speed motor, and the drill and countersink operations should be run at the appropriate speed for each process.
Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut.
Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool.
Piloted Countersink Bits (like the MultiSink® see pg 347) will significantly increase countersinking performance preventing movement of the countersink whilst drilling.
Ensure regular application of quality cutting fluid, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra cutting fluid.
Flame/Lazer cut/punched holes will require more torque to Countersink than drilled holes due to heat build up.
Caution: Sometimes flame cut holes do not have parallel sides meaning risk of wear breakage. This application may also reduce tool life.
Best countersinking results are achieved using a variable speed drill that allows the correct speed to be set, allowing high torque and low gear speed. (reduce RPM further for difficult applications).
Follow guidelines to set correct RPM speed. Incorrect RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
3 Flute Countersinks 90º Guide

When using a magnet drill regularly check that the slides, handles, arbors and movable parts have not vibrated loose over time.
For drilling holes in steel thicker than 25mm it is recommended to ventilate the hole frequently to clear the swarf.
For thicker materials, pre-drill 6.35mm
hole first and then use sprung pilot drill or pilot pin as a guide.
When
CarbideMax® Ultra
Broach Cutters & MultiSink® Guide
Best Practice Advice Application information
Cautious & gentle feed pressure should be used at all times, especially during the start of the cut and exiting the material.
For best results, use a powerful magnet drill with high torque and low gear speed.
Swarf removal from the cutter can assist with longer tool life.
Backing off the cutter & applying more cutting fluid is necessary for increasing tool life.
Generous application of cutting fluid should be used & applied frequently during the cut with thorough cutter cutting fluid supply if possible.
When using with cordless power tools keep an eye on battery charge levels as torque consistency will diminish in a low battery.
MACHINING OF WEAR PLATES
The extreme hardness and resistance of wear plate makes machining it extremely challenging. Good results are dependent on the right setup - including high torque/ slow speed, geared magnet drills and ample lubrication when broaching and countersinking.
Using an incorrect or poorly maintained magnet drill with unstable drilling operation, poor magnet hold, excessive pressure or inadequate lubrication is likely to result in rapid tool failure.
Even with high tech tooling, successfully machining wear plates is challenging with little or no margin for error. It not only requires the correct setup but also experienced operators with the time necessary to proceed with caution.
Drilling holes in very hard materials is a specialist task & good results are dependent on the correct set-up, including:
• Slow RPM speed
• Consistent feed
• High rigidity/clamping force
• Geared mag-based drills with high torque
• Abundant & high quality lubricant Inadequate lubrication and/or using an incorrect or a poorly maintained mag-based drill with unstable drilling operation, poor magnet hold or excessive pressure is likely to result in tool failure.
