BJCIANS ARE BACK FOR THE TRADITIONAL FACE-TO-FACE ACADEMIC YEAR

BJCI AT 62, REACHING ANOTHER MILESTONE OF CONTINUED EXCELLENCE

Batac Junior College, Incorporated, marked its founding anniversary in a two-day grand celebration that December 9, 2022, and ended on December

started on December 9, 2022, and ended on December 10, 2022, with the theme “Resilience and Empowerment on its 62nd Year of Continued Excellence.”

The school formally commenced its celebration with a thanksgiving mass on December 9, 2022, which took place at Immaculate Conception Parish Church, attended by learners from elementary to junior and senior high school, faculty members, the school’s administration, and PTA Homeroom Presidents.

After the Thanksgiving mass, the floats of the 2022 Royal Court, headed by King Sid Alfred I and Queen Kylie Alexa I, together with the BJCians, faculty guradians

members, parents, and guardians, graced a magnificent parade, accompanied by the beats of the talented BJCi Drum and Lyre and BJCi Tambureros that emphasized the colors and grandeur of this celebration.

As the grand parade comes to an end, a simple program took place in front of the Imelda Cultural Center, wherein Atty. Windell D. Chua, School President; Atty. Kara Mae Aurora R. Chua, School Directress; Ms. Gerlie Ann C. Pitpit, School Principal; and Mrs. Michelle Pasamonte, PTA President, congratulated the school on its 62nd founding anniversary.

During the program, the talented Pep Squad bedazzled the stage with an amazing performance that wowed the audience, filling the area with cheers and applause.

Beginning the new academic year on August 15th, 2022, Batac Junior College, Inc. welcomed 1,265 bright minds into their expanding family. Transitioning to the traditional face-to-face learning set-up, students were assured with high academic standards and provided with great learning experiences. The school welcomed 114 elementary pupils and 1,151 high school students, of whom there were 758 juniors and 393 seniors. The data revealed a decrease of enrollment compared to the previous academic year wherein the school was able to cater a total of 1,317 students. This might be because parents are still hesitant to send their kids to school, since COVID-19 is still on our territory. We are still in the presence of the deadly Corona Virus, thus the school administration has set up multiple safety precaution signs around the campus. In addition to the safety protocols disseminated in every classroom on the first day of classes. School preparation includes hand sanitizers and masks stored in each rooms, strict social interactions and scheduled class dismissals.

You cannot have any close relationships with your teacher unless you are related by blood.

The possible reason for declaring this DO order is that students get too close with their teacher. Consequently, the teacher may give that student a grade that they could possibly not deserve and for the act of ‘favouritism’. Many people are complaining to their school about the unequal treatment of the teacher to their student that leads on the teacher being fired. These aforementioned reasons drove DepEd to draw a boundary between teachers and students.drove DepEd to draw a

Teachers have long been regarded as students' second parents and in the case of those who do not have one, they serve as the students' first parents. We cannot deny the fact that educators raise their students with the same love and care that their biological parents do. They are being supportive by providing equal guidance to students, nurturing their minds and values, and assisting them in recognizing their skills and goals.

It was the first week of November 2022 when the social media bells rang so loudly due to the newly released Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 49 s. 2022, declared by Vice President Sara Duterte.

The controversial DepEd No. 49 has two objectives: depoliticizing the department and promoting professionalism among its employees. It is made for students to know that their teachers are professional.

Misconceptions about the order's provisions are being spread. Some have stated that they will simply ignore the school-related questions raised by the learners outside of school and some, in response to the issued directive, will simply unfriend and unfollow their students.

The use of social media for communication and friendship between teachers and students outside of class hours is not the issue here. It is the personal values of teachers and students because they sometimes overstep their boundaries. with their students on social media, but in a

..Educators should set boundaries and limitations while keeping the spirit of professionalism alive in their bodies and hearts. After all, the DepEd regulation's purpose is to promote professionalism among DepEd teachers and staff when implementing and providing educational services and programs.

Educators continue to serve as students' second parents as the school is their second home, but with limitations to promote professionalism. Students have nothing to worry about because teachers will continue to be their friends and they will be able to

friends and they will be able to communicate via social media within the school setting. They will continue to play a role in shaping the lives of the students, and the responsibility will remain in the hands of the teachers to discover the students' interests, hidden skills, and hone them into their dream. A teacher's love and devotion for their students knows no boundaries, regardless of any limitations.

FACT-CHECKING IN AN ERA OF FAKE

Social media is a time pass platform for most individual, especially the younger generation. Due to technological advancement and easy access to information, it is also easy to distribute false information, that can impact a person or society as a whole. As a result, fact-checking is essential to determine whether what we are about to share is true or not.

Fake news and disinformation usually have a detrimental impact on social media. It can lead us to hatred against religion, politics, celebrities, or agencies which is not beneficial for the society. One piece of fake news can influence the entire impact of a story, as well as an individual's opinion. Some media firms are responsible in producing false information as that make them a lot of money.

With the last election, the term "factchecking" was frequently used, and I believe that as a student, doing this is critical.

Fact-checking is essential because disinformation can change your perspective, and can have a significant impact on your actions. If you base your actions on false information, you are more likely to make bad decisions, which can have unforeseen repercussions. Furthermore, conducting extensive study is a must to distribute accurate information. Doing our own research, especially on topics that perplex us, is vital before we share our thoughts to other people. Moreover, we may provide something relevant and answer them with sufficient proof and evidence. People will be more conscious of what is true and will benefit as a result.

We must not believe everything that people say. The best way for us to counter fake news is to do our own research. This allows us to have a better grasp of a particular subject and avoid spreading false information to others.

GULAYAN SA PAARALAN: SSG AND SPG COLLABORATION

To address malnutrition and hunger, the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented the Gulayan sa Paaralan

Program (GPP) in support to the hunger mitigation initiatives of the government. DepEd Memorandum No. 293, s.2007 was issued to encourage both public elementary and secondary schools to establish school gardens to ensure continuous supply of vegetables for school feeding.

The general objective of the GPP is to promote food security in schools and communities, through self-help food production activities and values among the learners, and appreciation of agriculture as a life support system.

GPP covers, establishment of vegetable gardens, vegetable and tree nurseries, tree planting, propagation of medicinal plants, composting, school landscape aesthetic vegetable development, crop museum, and related livelihood activities.

Despite the limited space available, the SSG and SPG sought alternative methods of establishing their gulayan. They adapted container gardening by planting seedlings in used paint cans from the school's reconstruction and other pots.

Their garden is currently producing vegetables, which they donate to the school canteen to be cooked and served to the students. The SSG and SPG officers intend to continue running the gulayan and will look for other ways to develop and improve the said project.

Adding more fun and color to the school’s founding anniversary celebration, the Kapisanang Inang Wika and Araling Panlipunan at Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao Club organized the Laro ng Lahi promoting the traditional games that have been played and passed across multiple generations.

After the kick-off events on December 9, 2022, the celebration proceeded by the Coronation Program on December 10, 2022, held at the Imelda Cultural Center, wherein King Sid Alfred I and Queen Kylie Alexa I were crowned.

THE GROWING MENTAL HEALTH EFFECTS OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON YOUNG ADULTS

Mental health is more than just a person's psychological and emotional well-being It refers to a psychological and emotional state of health in which a person can use their cognitive and emotional capacities, meet regular demands, and perform socially acceptable tasks

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and social isolation policies implemented by several countries have disrupted daily routines Schools across the country have closed their doors to help flatten the Covid-19 curve, and for children and teenagers with mental health issues, these closures mean a lack of access to the resources they typically have through schools. As a result, people with mental health issues were unable to receive mental health care, worsening their situation

Schools play an important role in a student's life This is where students can meet new people, showcase their talents, and gain new experiences. Students are given routines in schools, and these routines are important coping mechanisms for young people with mental health issues. Most students' lives revolve around participating in extracurricular activities, which allow them to forget about their problems, even if it is only for a short time. Those who do not wish to participate in these activities can continue with their regular school routine in order to have distractions such as interacting with their classmates.Students are more likely to be lonely, and they have higher levels of anxiety and depression than the general population Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many students experienced sudden social isolation, resulting in an abrupt change in their feelings and personalities. They feel less connected to their friends, organizations, and hobbies if they do not interact with their social support system As a result, people suffering from mental

illnesses were unable to receive mental health treatment, exacerbating their situation

During these times, students were mostly at home, and majority of them were alone because their parents needed to work to provide for their basic needs They did want to be validated and heard They needed to hear from others that everything was going to be fine. They didn't, however, have anyone to talk to or simply sit with to listen to their rants As a result, they had to deal with all of their emotions alone, which led them to consider doing things to themselves that were unnecessary

The abrupt transition from face-to-face learning to modular learning was extremely difficult for them. They were enrolled and given modules, but they felt as if they were not studying at all because there was no excitement or thrill to learning as there was when they were still in school. Instead of being excited about completing their modules, they have always felt pressured not by their family, but by themselves Believing that everything they do is not right, and feeling as if they are not progressing in life. As a result, they tend to overthink things and put pressure on themselves to perform better than they do now, even if it means getting sick and forgetting to care for their mental health.

As the world recovers from Covid-19 and schools gradually reopen their doors to students, it only makes sense to include mental health awareness and education in the curriculum. Teachers and students should be taught how to recognize warning signs of developing mental health problems, and there should be opportunities to learn about and manage mental health crises, such as the risk of suicide or self-harm. Students will be able to get the assistance they require if we empower them with knowledge and encourage dialogue.

WAYS TO BE PREPARED: THE SILENT STRIKE OF DREADFUL EARTHQUAKE

The Philippines is located on the “Pacific Ring of Fire,” where ringed of fault lines are found beneath the country surface that causes seismic activity to be very common, yet it cannot be predicted nor avoided.

On July 27, 2022, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has recorded a 7.3 magnitude earthquake that centered in the mountainous area of Tayum, Abra The strong quake shook the Northern Luzon and resulted in damaged properties and left fear and panic to the people.

PHIVOLCS said the quake struck at 8:43 a m at a depth of 15 kilometers and warned everyone for damage and aftershocks.

To be prepared in this kind of situation is important to save the life of yourself and the life of other people.

The Earthquake Country Alliance (ECA) rescuers recommended the drop, cover, and hold on procedure since it gives a person “the best overall chance of quickly protecting yourself in an earthquake "

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) advised that when you are outside, move to an open area and do not go to steep slopes or near a shore

Moreover, be prepared for aftershocks Once the shaking stops, take the fastest and safest way out of the building. Do not use elevators, enter damaged buildings, use telephones unless necessary and most importantly, “Don’t panic,” said PHIVOLCS.

Earthquake is unpredictable and destructible at the same time

Knowing what to do when its strike is important to avoid serious

damage and injuries. By being prepared and knowing what to do, you can help ensure that you and your loved ones are safe in the event of an earthquake.
