Despite strict fishing quotas which limit the tonnage landed, there is enough fresh blue fin tuna to be enjoyed in restaurants. 'Gululu', the casual Maltese diner in St Julians Bay, offers a Festa tat-Tonn (tuna feast) menu throughout the month of June, with a selection of interesting dishes all incorporating tuna meat. Tuna fishing has long traditions in Malta and, over the centuries, most tuna was caught using the Tunnara method so typical of the Mediterranean, where the shoals were captured in an intricate system of nets before being

The weather is usually not too hot with a mild northwest wind, the Majjistral, blowing a cool breeze in from the sea. Most children are still at school until the last week and this means that the beaches are less busy and, certainly quieter than July and August. The colours between blue sea and skies are at their most vibrant and locals and tourists alike show off their tans against brightly-painted clothes. Full of flavour and prepared with passion, Maltese food must be sampled wherever possible and Gululu is certainly one of the best places to go for it.
