The term - Industry 4.0 or the 4th Industrial Revolution is circulating in popular Industrial vocabulary since 2015. The Forum Founder Executive Chairman - Klaus Schwab popularized this term to indicate a gross paradigm shift in industrial capitalism and technological advancements that feature a modern industrial operational framework. One of the significant features of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the use of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in almost every sphere. The automation of Industrial activities and greater dependence on the Internet of Things (IoT) are marked characteristics of Industrial 4.0. This fourth wave of the Industrial revolution also talks about the Digital Age and the Prolific pedestal importance of Social media in Industrial Whereabouts. Industrial 4.0 is synonymous with a digital transformation of the industrial world, enhancing productivity, flexibility, and agility through the increased use of advanced technologies and automation. With the advent of advanced working concepts like Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence-powered Machine Learning, industries are coming up with smart manufacturing units. Data analysis through advanced software and decision-making based on such analytics empowers Industrial 4.0 Revolution. It also mitigates the possibilities of human errors by minimizing Human Intervention in non-creative tasks. In a nutshell, this revolution aims to make Industrial functioning meaningful and insightful. Contact us for feedback or submission of your story at contact@bizemag.com
The Detrimental Effect of Discrimination Harassment & Victimisation in the Workplace By George Kemish
I
am aware that the legislation pertaining to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion will differ from country to country and that the way in which the legislation is interpreted may also differ. In the United Kingdom (UK) the law governing equality, diversity and inclusion is outlined in the Equality Act which was legislated in 2010. Of note is the fact that Employment Judges in the UK tend to scrutinise the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy held by the employer together with the quality and frequency of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Training provided by the employer whenever a case of Discrimination, Harassment or Victimisation is brough before them. This can have, and has had, an effect on the outcome of the case where an employer has put forward a ‘Reasonable Steps Defence’ (stating that they have taken all reasonable steps to stop such discrimination, harassment, or victimisation in the workplace). Irrespective of the country in which people are working and the differences in legislation governing equality, diversity, and inclusion; discrimination, harassment and victimisation can have a detrimental effect in the workplace that is common to all organisations. But what is discrimination?
Discrimination can be split into two distinct concepts: Firstly, there is direct discrimination, harassment, and victimisation whereby a person, who has a particular characteristic which is different too much of the workforce, is bullied by the employer, by other employees or where a complaint of discrimination or victimisation made to an employer is not acted upon. The characteristics protected in law in the UK are: • Age • Disability • Gender Reassignment • Marriage and Civil Partnership • Pregnancy and Maternity • Race • Religion or Belief
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 6
• Sex • Sexual Orientation These may differ in other countries but provide an outline of what might constitute a characteristic referred to earlier. Direct discrimination often reflects an unconscious bias. These are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside of their own conscious awareness. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these tend to stem from our tendency to organise social worlds by categorising them. They can often be based on past experience, our upbringing or background, culture or even our exposure to social media. It is therefore necessary for people to consciously try to identify and eradicate such biases. Then there is indirect discrimination whereby the employer puts in place a provision, criterion, or practice to the detriment of someone who has a characteristic that puts them in the minority, and which is to their detriment. An example: A job advert for a salesperson specifies that applicants must have ten years of experience working in retail. By doing so the prospective employer could be discriminating indirectly based on age. This is because the advert excludes young people who may still have the skills and qualifications needed to undertake the role. Instead, the advert should say that applicants need a specific type of experience and knowledge and provide prospective applicants with an indication of the main tasks and skills involved. Whilst indirect discrimination can come down to poor judgment or lack of forethought on the part of the employer, as I have indicated earlier, direct discrimination and harassment is tantamount to bullying. However, both forms of discrimination, together with harassment and victimisation, can have a devastating effect in the workplace.
For the recipient of discrimination, harassment, and victimisation, it can seriously affect their emotional wellbeing; leading to anxiety, stress, depression, the loss of self-worth leading to poor self-esteem, and, in some cases, this can lead to poor physical health (such as cardiovascular problems). They can also become isolated in the workplace. However, some of these effects can also influence the remainder of the workforce by engendering a toxic workplace. The bullying effect can stir up anger, stress, and embarrassment for other members of staff that find themselves working in such a toxic environment – irrespective of whether they have been recipients of such treatment. It can have a detrimental effect on employee experience (lowered job satisfaction) and engagement, leading to a breakdown in teamwork thereby producing a loss of capability and productivity. This poor performance is almost certain to have a detrimental effect on the Value Chain with customer expectations not being met. The overall outcome for companies is likely to be a loss of market-share and, for all organisations irrespective of the sector in which they operate, the inability to attract talented staff. This, in turn, could result in loss of revenue and heightened costs.
About the Author George Kemish is in his eleventh year as an Employability Mentor at the International Business School at the University of Lincoln (in the UK). He is also the Founder of Specialist Human Resources Limited; a business consultancy specialising in HR Strategy and Value Management.

Taming the Victim Mindset To imprison yourself and then beg to be freed; this is the dynamic of a victim mindset ~ Steve Maraboli
By Dr. Neeta Pant
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 8
D
o you always and constantly feel that you don’t have control over situations? People are all against you and out to get you? Bad things keep happening to you? Nothing goes as per plan? Entire universe conspires against you? If this is happening to you, chances are that you are struggling with a victim mindset. People with a victim mindset may feel as though everyone else is against them. Even though there might be things that they can do to help fix the situation, they don’t take responsibility for anything and are convinced everything is out of their control. They might take things personally even when not directed at them. They might also feel resentful and keep blaming others and universe for situations around them. Victim Mindset is an acquired personality trait where a person tends to recognize themselves as victim of the negative actions of others. Victim mindset is a form of avoidance. It perhaps is a way of saying, “I refuse to take responsibility for myself or my life.” People who have a victim mindset believe that life happens to them, rather than for them. As a result, they feel victimized when something doesn’t go as planned.
Where does it come from?
those lessons can carry into adulthood through a victim mindset. Past Trauma - Emotional pain contributing to helplessness & vulnerability can disrupt a person’s sense of control & vulnerability. They feel inhumed and surrender. Consequently, victim mindset here acts as coping mechanism.
A victim mindset does not develop out of nowhere. Often, it stems from the following issues –
Past Abuse - Physical or sexual abuse brings feeling of shame and helplessness that translates into low self-esteem leads to development of a victim mindset.
Betrayal - Betrayal of trust, especially repeated ones can be extremely hard to get over. It may also be the result of a parent or primary caretaker not living up to expectations. The long-term impact and repercussions of betrayal can make it very difficult for someone to trust others in future, thus creating a victim mindset.
Co-dependency - Frustrations and resentments sets in when personal goals are being sacrificed for the partner. Since one does not get any acknowledgement for their foregone aims in life, it becomes extremely taxing and ensuant is a victim mindset.
Survival – During formative years, if children are neglected, not offered the love they need, may become willing to try anything to make others care about them. If the children can get attention by acting weak or sick, or by expressing all the bad things that happened to them,
Learned Behavior - If a parent habitually complained about hardships of life, he/she is automatically and unconsciously sowing the seeds of victim mindset in the child. Naturally, children end up emulating the behavior of adults who act like victims.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 9
Manipulation - Victims of manipulation and abuse can easily begin to have a victim mindset themselves. They hold people around them feel guilty; they start enjoying blaming others for problems they cause. Lashing out, making others feel guilty, or manipulating others for sympathy and attention are the common signs of victim mindset.
• Not having to take responsibility for anything
Why does one play a Victim?
• Prerogative to complain
Playing victim has a number of juicy benefits which makes victims remain emotionally invested in propagating this toxic behavior. Some of them are -
• Anger & frustration avoidance; sadness covers as prime emotion
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 10
• Bestowed with attention • Wallow in self-pity to attain priority • Acquiring sympathy from others • Less chances of criticism • Prosper on drama as a victim • Higher probability to get what one wants
Do you suffer from Victim Mindset? The following should be able to help one recognise the signs of victim mindset – BEHAVIORS • Predilection to blame other people • Disowning responsibility for life • Seeking and enjoying sympathy or pity • Being oversensitive • Believing others’ lives are easier • Believing there is unfair play of universe • Over reacting to small things • Being hypervigilant around other people ATTITUDES • Overly pessimistic approach about future • Thinking that life is against you • Repressed anger • Surrendered looking for solutions • Aversion to take risks • Feeling of entitlement to sympathy or pity • Ultra-defensive attitude • Exaggeration of risks of situations • Labelling people as black and white; extremist approach • Putting oneself down all the time • Learned helplessness BELIEFS • Worst things always happens to me. • I don’t know what to do to change things. • There’s no point in trying to change. • I must accept what happens to me. • I am deserving of the bad things. • Nobody cares about me or what happened to me. • I have no choice in what happens to me.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 11
Outcomes of a Victim Mindset Most common outcomes if one persist in having Victim Mindset • Feelings of guilt, shame, and depression • Frustration with the world • Feeling isolated, lonely and helpless • Low self-esteem, low confidence • Constant negative emotions such as fear, sadness, and anger • Having relationship issues or problems at work • Feeling hurt and that people don’t care • Feeling resentful of other people who are successful • Feels manipulated or blamed • Engaging in self-destructive behaviour • Taking long time to trust people
Impacts of A Victim Mindset Victim mindset can have following negative impacts and can be damaging for – 1. Morale - Chronic pessimism and helpless outlook end up irritated behaviour that wears one down spoiling overall happiness. 2. Associations - Behavior changes from "victim" to "victimizer." Playing "victim" and seeking attention one minute and the very next minute, they may blame someone else for their helplessness. 3. Efficiency - Victims are busy blaming others or highlighting perceived difficulty that they may make mistakes or cause delays that could have been prevented. 4. Reliance - Victims believe their helplessness and that everything is beyond their control and depends on fate, luck or other people. Consequentially, they may not be trusted for any important tasks or responsibility.
Strategies to break free from the Victim Mindset The following tips can help you address a victim mindset can be extremely overwhelming
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 12
and exhausting, the endeavor is to move from VICTIM to SURVIVOR mindset 1) Challenge Your Perceptions Of Reality - We frequently engage in worst-case scenario thinking and get caught up in these thought patterns more often than we care to admit. Important is to bring back yourself from the brink of victimhood & think positive when next time these thoughts threatens to distort your perception of reality.
2) Take Responsibility For Your Actions - Owning up to mistakes or incidents that put you in a bad situation is the key here. Blaming or getting angry at others will not help much. You should be mindful about how you spell your problems, both to people in your life and to yourself. The moment you stop blaming the world, is the moment that you shift from victim to survivor. 3) Change Your Narrative - Think for a moment, does your stories that you tell yourself in order to live comes from false narratives? Do you unnecessary blame others for what has happened to you? Every time you feel compelled to place blame on someone else for your challenges, take a moment to flip the script and focus on what you can change. 4) Think Positive - Victimhood stems from negative thoughts. Changing your thinking is the best way to shift from victim to survivor. You must find the silver lining amidst every challenge instead of looking for the bad in everything. Focus on the good will attract more positive things into life. Open yourself up to live an abundant life of positive growth and change that has the potential to transform your life. 5) Practice Saying NO - The key to getting over victim mindset is recognizing you have the power to run your own life. Sometimes simply saying “NO” goes a long way to improving your mindset. Even if other people feel you are letting them down, if you don’t want to do something and don’t realistically have to do it, don’t do it. You are allowed to have needs like others, remember that!
6) Stop Blaming - Stop yourself when you realise you are getting into blame stories against people. Turn your attention away from these blaming thoughts. Blaming others can only provide temporary relief. It will lead to feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness in the longer run. 7) Practice Gratitude - Victim mindset focuses on suffering, specifically what you’re not getting. Flip your perspective and focus on what you get and what you enjoy, what matters to you. Consciously shift your focus from what you’re missing to what you have. Victimhood has roots in the feeling of scarcity – not having enough. Turn that consciously into the feeling of abundance which is where gratitude will come into play. Conscious acknowledgment of gratitude will bring joy, peace and contentment in the present state. 8) Practice Forgiveness - Holding on to feeling of bitterness and anger from past is characteristics of victim mindset. It not only colours your daily experiences but causes you to misinterpret well meaning gestures from others. Forgiveness is all about finding the inner strength to move beyond the pain so as to attain inner peace and freedom. Forgiving is vital to begin taking the purposeful actions that will positively impact your life. 9) Find The Source Of Your Learned Helplessness - Taking time out to find the source of negativity will be of immense help. Fostered dependence, bullying in school, sibling or spouse’s treatment to your feeling, opinions or emotions, reasons could be many. Knowing where it is coming from will provide you’re the opportunity to address the source of pain. 10) Shift Your Mindset From That Of Victim To Survivor - Succumbing to victim mindset can be overcome by adopting the mindset of a survivor. The first step here would be understanding and accepting that you have a victim mindset. The next step is shifting your thoughts from feeling like a victim to realizing that you are a survivor. To be a true
survivor, you need to focus attention on developing positive self-beliefs. As a survivor you will need to take full responsibility of good and bad both. One is a victim as along as one allows oneself to be. Many hold the victimhood label dearly in order to find support and help. Victimhood is a pain that one gets comfortable with but to live one’s life as a victim means that there will always be a cloud hanging over life. Fighting for survivorship can be intimidating and it also means stepping out of your comfort zone but the reward can be incredible. The good news is, it is possible to change your mindset from VICTIM TO SURVIVOR. Believe that you have the power to conquer it!!! It’s easy to fall into victim mode and feel like the world is against you.
The truth is, people aren’t against you: they’re just for themselves. The only thing within your control is how you react and respond to the chaotic dance of life. ~ Kerli

have been permanently redefined. TThere are more smartphones than there are toilets, new firms will replace 75% of the S&P 500 firms by 2027 and the art of scenario planning seems to be guesswork more than strategy. Even before Covid-19 we were in the middle of a paradigm shift. Most established companies were going through some form of digital transformation, in order to avoid being disrupted by new hungry and aggressive digital native competitors. Now that the flood wave of the pandemic has passed and the situation appears relatively under control, we are realising that the urgency for established companies to embrace a real digital transformation is even more pressing.
I
f we had received one Dollar every time we have listen or read “digital transformation” we would drive a Ferrari. In fact we can get more than a billion results by searching it on Google: we cannot claim we have read them all of course, we have noticed how little emphasis is devoted to the role and the mindset of Leadership in understanding and shaping Digital transformation.
Shall we give it a try? A lot of what we have learned at business school and at work over the last 30 years is obsolete, incomplete, or simply wrong. The context is more than ever volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA), space and time
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 16
A seasoned executive we have been working for, recently said to us, “I have always been suspicious of those who say that they know what the future will look like. But this time, it is crystal clear that either we adapt or die”. The problem is adapting to what and how. We have learned that there is a crucial concept to be metabolised - in the last few decades our world went from being complicated to being complex. And it is paramount for leaders and managers to understand the difference between the two. If you treat a complex matter as a complicated one, you are doomed to fail. Once decoded, complicated matters are highly predictable, while complex systems are the complete opposite. When something is complicated, even in presence of a high degree of difficulty, we can segregate and analyse all the variables, experiment with multiple trials and errors, determine the best sequence or combination of components, and finally establish a repeatable process which will guarantee a fairly similar outcome in the future. When we face a complex scenario, instead, we need to accept the fact that certain things are not equivalent to the sum of their parts, just because the variables at play interact in unpredictable ways. Every time we face something unknown for the first time, we tend to label it as complex. In some cases, though, establishing a clear process is simply impossible. This is the case of a complex context. Every time that the role of human beings is predominant, we face a de facto complex issue, as people tend to behave in virtually infinite ways.
This is the situation we typically deal with when we acquire and integrate a start-up into an established large organisation, or when we try to rebuild momentum after a turnaround. Of course, managers and leaders can rely on their experiences and try to apply consolidated processes and procedures, but they should accept that in these cases they are entering an unexplored path with potentially unpredictable results.
And guess what? Even if they are lucky and smart, and they succeed in figuring out how to make it work, they should acknowledge that it is impossible to infer a bullet-proof playbook for the next time when facing a complex matter. In such a scenario, one size doesn’t fit all, and we can’t determine what is right for companies based on best practices, simply because the variables in the equation tend
to constantly change, and today they do it at the speed of an algorithm. However, this doesn’t mean that we have the luxury to wait and see. Instead, we should develop the adaptability muscle and embrace experimentation. We also need to be mindful that experiments are by their nature prone to failure, but a single success can compensate for many things that didn’t give the desired result.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 17
When we discuss this topic with business leaders, we quite often receive the question – even when we acknowledge that the world is complex, how can we become nimbler, adaptive, keen to trial-and- error, to accept failure and to follow unexplored paths if our organisations are still structured to measure and incentivise traditional KPIs? We think this is the essence of digital transformation. It’s people who make companies. Organizational culture is a reflection of its leaders culture, mindset, ethics and consciousness as any transformation is first
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 18
and foremost a cultural shift. Digital technology is an enabler, a means to an end, but it isn’t the essence of the shift. The more leaders internalize and understand that a brand new model is needed, the more they can increase the chances to ignite a real transformation, even within large established organization; the virtues of experience with intellectual honesty, builds with the past in a constructive, open and unbiased way. We don’t want to be naive; we know that companies are not in the business of avoiding risks uncertainty, change and experimentation. On the con-
trary they prosper in a stable context. And yes, analytical problem solving, crisp decision-making, the articulation of clear direction is still very relevant skills for leaders. So how can we be two faced? How can we look backwards enough to leverage experience, and at the same time look forwards to explore fast changing future scenarios? Our classical studies suggest us to use as a metaphor: Janus. In Roman mythology, Janus was the two-faced god representing dualities and transitions, such as life/death,
beginning/end, youth/adulthood, war/peace, and barbarism/civilization. More concretely, Charles A. O'Reilly III and Michael L. Tushman argued that organizations should become ambidextrous – able to attend to the products and processes of the past, while also gazing forward, preparing for the innovations that will define the future. And they highlight that the mental balancing act required can be one of the toughest of all managerial challenges, as executives need to explore new opportunities while they work diligently to exploit existing capabilities. (Source: https:// hbr.org/2004/04/the-ambidextrous-organization) We suggest and believe that ambidexterity is definitely the right strategy to implement. However, as organisations and transformations are essentially about people and culture, we also believe that to get the most of out this strategy we need to adopt the right mental posture. We can call it like it Humbition. Humbition is a portmanteau of two words ‘humility’ and ‘ambition’ and it seems to me that it perfectly summarizes the attitude that all of us should adopt while navigating toward the new context, surely not a new normal. In other words, we should be humble enough to admit that we don’t have all the answers, accept that we will experiment and
fail, and admit our vulnerability vis-à-vis the challenges ahead. But we should also resist the temptation of being overwhelmed by a sense of powerlessness. Instead of losing our confidence in the future, we should gather all our energies and foster the ambition to shape the world of tomorrow.
if there is one thing that is very clear to us consulting on this subject with more than 100 international firms, is that leadership, in a complex scenario, is nothing else than an improvisational, uncertain, and experimental art, loaded with integrity by remembering what we stand for.
Digital transformation is a leadership challenge. And

PERSPECTIVES ON
INDUSTRY 4.0 By Dr. Mythili Kolluru & Shobhna Gupta
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 20
S
ummary: The world is facing tremendous change. The most significant change is to understand the new technological revolution. Technological modifications have dramatically influenced individuals and organizations. In this article, the authors illustrate the fourth industrial revolution's features, implications, and shortfalls. It is also known as Industry 4.0. It is not only affecting the way we interact, communicate or work but, to some extent, how we live. The scale and scope of the 4th Industrial Revolution are complex and evolving, with unprecedented implications for the world. The First Industrial Revolution- happened in the Mid-18th century, and it was about the invention of the steam engine. This revolution was the transition of new manufacturing processes and from hand production methods to machines. It increased the use of steam and waterpower. In terms of employment, textile was the dominant industry. The second industrial revolution, known as the technological revolution, was a rapid standardization and industrialization phase. The advancement of manufacturing and production technologies enabled the widespread use of technical systems such as telegraph, telephones, and electrical power. This revolution has culminated in the wave of Globalization (Kolluru et al., 2021). The third Industrial Revolution was the computer age and digital revolution; The spread of automation and digitalization characterizes it through electronics and computers. The prominent inventions were the Internet and the discovery of nuclear energy. The founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Klause Schwab, introduced the "4th industrial revolution" (Schwab, 2015). The theme of the world economic forum meeting held in Davos, Switzerland itself was "Mastering the 4th Industrial revolution " (Schwab, 2016). Later in the conference conducted by the Chicago Council of global affairs, he said the 4th industrial revolution was not an expansion or prolongation of digitalization, but it was much more than that. According to Mr. Schwab, 4th IR combines technologies, or Industry 4.0 is a
fusion of physical, digital, and biological entities (Schwab, 2018). There are three reasons why today's transformations are not merely the prolongation of the 3rd industrial revolution. It is because of its "VELOCITY," "SCOPE," and "SYSTEM IMPACT." The speed of current breakthroughs has no historical precedents. The revolution is advancing at an exponential rather than linear pace. The big challenge to governments, businesses, and institutions is that they are not sufficiently prepared to cope with the speed of this change because it has no physical boundaries. The difference between natural and artificial is slowly blurring the lines between physical, biological, and digital systems. One of the main features of the revolution is that it will not only change "WHAT WE DO" but, to some extent, "HOW WE THINK AND BEHAVE." The possibilities of billions of people connected to mobile devices with unprecedented processing power, storage capacity, and access to knowledge are unlimited (Mosconi, 2015). If we talk about the education industry, we always tell our students that learning is not complex anymore as thousands of resources are available online. Still, we should know how to use them effectively. The possibilities are multiplied by emerging technological breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of things (IoT), 3D printing, big data, machine learning, etc. (Rumi et al., (2020). Artificial intelligence is all around us, be it a self-driving car, drone virtual assistants, or software that translates and invests. Artificial intelligence is the accumulation, analysis, processing, and projection of information. Hence it will no more be considered valuable in human faculty because a simple gadget will do it better than a human being can do. Many of us will be out of our vocation unless we do something that a machine cannot do (Kolluru et al., 2021). We must be able to do something beyond our intellect. Human beings have many layers of intelligence. Intellect is a tiny part of it, so future generations must explore those layers to cope
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 21
with the fast-moving change of Industry 4.0. It will affect our mental space and change our biological functioning. It is required to have clean air, water, soil, land, and energy for all generations. It is not a cure or fixed solution, human beings are needed in all areas, but robotics has considerably improved core functionality, especially in the manufacturing sector. If the work is purely technological, a machine can surely replace human beings, and they will do a better job because it is a repetitive process. Human beings cannot repeat things with the same efficiency as machines for different reasons such as fatigue, nature, time, behavior, etc. So, most factory jobs can be robotic, but managers still need to be human beings. So, the younger generations must think about the professions which are not replaceable by machines.
Possibilities of Industry 4.0 3D printing technology: Has changed the face of manufacturing today; entrepreneurs, investors, and manufacturers have reduced challenges in terms of time and tools used. 3D printing is used to make tools, toys, shoes, furniture, and even homes. Homes have been built in the Netherlands, Mexico, India, and Africa in less than three days. The carbon footprint is 70% lesser than traditionally constructed housing. Fourteen trees, a company in Africa, has start-
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 22
ed 3D printing homes. Now people can have 800 sq. feet home faster and at a lower price at about $5000 (Fleming,2021). Artificial Intelligence (AI) has touched us. It is used in speech recognition, problem-solving, learning, and planning. It has transformed the connectivity between healthcare providers and those who need it. In business, it is used for data analysis and customer and employee engagement; in Amsterdam, Electric boats have eased up congested roads and are used as means of transportaby physically challenged people from their homes with a mouse, intelligent devices, and a gaze-controlled interface. The technology opens a new opportunity for an inclusive workforce approach. Increased information access through automotive computer devices, digital facilities, and mobile phones. Education and business can now be accessible to people across the globe (Butler, 2018). New technologies have influenced marketing and the delivery of goods to customers. A drone is a crewless aerial vehicle. It delivers products to customers, searches and surveillance, traffic and weather monitoring, photography, and agricul-
tion—with Robots using AI to map objects and avoid collisions. Robotics dramatically influences our lives at work, home, and play. A robot is an automated motorized tool used in educational institutions, healthcare, outer space, aerial photography, choosing flight paths, and cleaning swimming pools. Ory yoshisuji, a Japanese designer, has developed Robots used in a completely Robot staffed café. The Robots in this café are controlled
ture. In Israel, drones were used to provide food, and during the pandemic, it is used to deliver medicines and supplies to hospitals. Around a hundred plus drones were in operation daily during the pandemic. Digital technologies have improved the speed of work. Leadership and employees have more free mental space to think strategically and creatively. 4 IR has created unique employment opportunities, and interconnectivity has increased. Innovations have fueled entrepreneurship; digital marketing has helped businesses flourish (World Economic Forum, 2016). Employment opportunities are made with a call for upgraded technical and essential life skills. As witnessed in previous revolutions, advanced technologies such as AI and IOT have enhanced our lives and negatively impacted human lives.
Crapshoots of Industry 4.0 Over dependency on machines will impact humans psychologically and bring about undesirable behavioral changes in adjustment, openness, and emotional balance. Accessibility to training institutions and some sections of the population could be restricted due to price and accessibility. Social media platforms have tapped into customers' personal information, leading to privacy issues. Powerful technological changes and global digital networks have increased the incidence of cyber-attacks. Industry 4.0 could also create instability in soci-
eties, and income concentration and income inequality could increase. The previous revolutions have not benefited all the people in the world at the same pace. 1.2 billion people do not have access to electricity which is the invention of the 2nd industrial revolution. Along similar lines, the benefits and opportunities of 4IR may not reach all sections of the world. Studies show that Gini Ratio with Industry 4.0 indicates that new technologies will surpass high-skilled workers and replace low-skilled laborers. Income inequality is likely to intensify in industrialized economies. It represents the confluence of digital, physical, and biological innovations. Industry 4.0 is a fusion of various technologies like the Internet of things (IOT), robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, 3D printing, and augmented reality (AR). These technologies will influence the products and services of tomorrow. The 4 IR is going to bring unprecedented changes and disrupt businesses globally. The 4 IR is like a two-edged sword; it will provide ample opportunities, the income level will increase, and the standard of living will improve, but it will also create income inequality, skill gap, privacy issues, alter labor markets and create psychological disturbances. Like all previous industrial revolutions, this revolution has two sides. As the world scuffles and adjusts to the nuances of this revolution, individuals, businesses, and society at large must perceive the 4 IR as an opportunity and leverage it rather than a threat.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 23
Concluding remarks The fourth industrial revolution is transformative and is disrupting businesses globally. It has the potential to bring incredible innovations, increase productivity and improve the quality of life. Yet there are concerns surrounding the impact of Industry 4.0. It could result in a digital skill gap, income inequality, and unemployment. It is a less known fact that there are countries in the world that have still not benefitted from the inventions of the second industrial revolution. Hence the world will know the reach and impact of Industry 4.0 with time. The article presents a spectrum of perspectives on Industry 4.0. All sections of society, industry, and businesses must develop and plan strategies to leverage the advent of novel technologies and meet the 4(IR) challenges.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 27
N
ow that the pandemic and its immediate effect has subsided a bit, a problem of far more significant proportion awaits us, a crisis that threatens our very existence. Yes, we are talking about climate change. CO2 is a dangerous greenhouse gas, and the gas produced in the US and elsewhere in the world is much more immense than simply alarming. For example, in the US, a significant 28% of CO2 emissions result from transportation. However, unlike some of the other climate issues, CO2 emissions are something we can indeed cut down significantly through electric vehicles.
How Electric Cars Benefit Us There are several essential benefits of using electric charge other than reducing the emission of CO2 and other gases. Electric cars also save you a significant amount of money. Besides the relatively lower cost of electricity than fossil fuels like diesel and petrol, their efficiency makes them more cost-effective. EVs also stand out with the greater ease with which they can be "smarter" and connect digitally than their fossil fuel counterparts. Additionally, electric vehicles have already made a name for themselves for their excellent response and torque.
Range Anxiety During the initial days of EVs, the charging stations were few and far between. It led to a "range anxiety," and EV owners were wary of the prospect of running out of battery charge in the middle of nowhere. There was also the additional anxiety of all charging stations being occupied when they have enough charge to drive into one. The latter worry was due to the slow charging pace of the first generation of EV chargers. However, in today's US, all these are a thing of the past. Such good omens for EVs result from the development of: • Smart and connected technologies • More efficient batteries than ever before • An exponential increase in charging points • Development of fast chargers and their rapid deployment by charging stations • It is now possible to have a charging point at the vehicle owner's house itself Western Europe is one of the leading regions when it comes to suitably equipped with chargers. The maximum number of chargers belong to the following countries (In no order):
There are other environment-related issues that electric cars solve, and it is the way to go not only for climate change. It serves to reduce pollution in several forms, including those resulting from combustion energies and the noise created by vehicle engines. The noisiest electric vehicles are quiet compared to their traditional fossil fuel counterparts.
• Netherlands
Problems and Solutions
• Belgium
The natural question is why we don't switch to electric vehicles en masse. The reason is that EVs (Electric Vehicles) are in a relatively new stage of development, and many issues are yet to be resolved.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 28
• Norway • France • Germany • UK • Austria • Sweden • Italy • Switzerland • Spain But there is a conspicuous lack of international standards when it comes to such EV chargers. Sometimes, many chargers on offer come with
a diverse set of connectors, each charger having its unique connector. However, if you are looking for Level 2 chargers, you will most likely find them at a commercial charging station. With such chargers, you can expect your EV to charge fully within 2-4 hours. In comparison, Level 3 chargers accomplish the same within a single hour. However, as they run on DC (direct current), they are not compatible with all EV batteries.
Differences Between Specific EV Models
Prohibitive Cost
BEN is the term we use to refer to EVs that completely run-on electricity and sport an electric motor. The various vehicle components run on rechargeable batteries making use of stored chemical energy.
There was a time when the regular masses couldn't use EVs simply for their prohibitive costs. However, the last few years have made EVs more affordable than ever. Further, many international governments, mainly European ones, provide incentives and subsidize their costs to promote eco-friendly transport.
There are various EVs and governmental incentives and offers that affect which type you end up buying. Of course, this point is valid only if your country has woken up to the hour's need. So, let's examine the four essential types of EVs: • Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
• Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) In contrast to the chemical energy-powered
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 29
BEV, FCEV runs on fuel cells that derive power from compressed hydrogen and oxygen. • Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) This variety of EVs combines the worlds of electrically powered vehicles and traditional ones. It uses a standard internal combustion engine. However, the powertrain driving the car runs on electricity. The system converts the car's kinetic energy into electricity and stores it in a battery that powers its electric motor.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 30
• Other Types of Electric Vehicles
Germany- 395,000
There are other types of EVs, too, like:
France- 185,000
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)- These are hybrid vehicles that the owner or driver can recharged.
UK- 176,000
Extended-range Electric Vehicles (EREV)- It is essentially a battery-operated vehicle and gets supplemental power from a fuel-based electricity generator to charge the car's battery.
Other critical European countries, too, saw a significant surge in EV sales. The increase in terms of percentage figures stands at: Norway- 75% Iceland- 50% Sweden-30%
Looking Ahead
Netherlands- 25%
Today more than ever, countries are intended to reduce vastly, if not eliminate, fossil fuel-based vehicles. Accordingly, many countries have set a date beyond which traditional cars will not simply be available for sale. So, when we must buy EVs sooner or later, it is only intelligent to make the right choice now. Timing is of the essence. Many countries are going all out to stimulate the sale of EVs. Let us now look at the adoption of EV scenario globally:
The tremendous surge in sales can be partially attributed to government incentives and policy, and consumer awareness. The enforced limits on CO2 emission by the EU are a vital part of the whole picture. The last important thing to note in the European EV market is that while BEV is by far the most popular EV variety, PHEV sales too have been picking up pace.
Worldwide The last decade was eventful for the EV industry. Amid the surging popularity of such vehicles, the global 10 million electric car stock in 2020 is of no wonder. The figures surged by 43% from 2019 stats and accounted for a stock share of 1%. BEVs largely dominate the market and account for 66% of new EV registrations and a similar figure of EV stock in the year 2020. China is ahead of other countries in this and has a 4.5 million electric car fleet. However, Europe is catching up fast, with its annual increase in 2020 going up by a whopping 3.2 million. Europe The European automobile industry was severely affected by COVID-19, with the market diminishing by 22%. It was tremendously surprising in this context to see EV registrations swell as much as 100% to stand at 1.4 million. EVs accounted for 10% of all 2020 automobiles sales in 2020. The EV registration figures for the major European nations are as follows:
China The pandemic's impact on the Chinese automobile industry was perceptibly lower than in other major nations. It is so due to a variety of reasons which fall far outside the scope of this article. However, it would suffice to say new registrations did fall but not significantly enough at 9%. With the pandemic being relatively brought under control in 2020, new EV registrations picked up in the second half of the year. The EV sales share went up from the 2019 figure of 4.8% to stand at 5.7% in 2020. In China, BEV was the EV variety of choice, accounting for 80% of all new EV registrations. Due to the pandemic, the Chinese government extended both incentives for the EV period and relaxed internal combustion engine car restrictions. United States Like other nations, the US automobile industry too suffered in the aftermath of COVID-19. The market fell by 23% overall though EVs were spared from the extent of the decline. The stats bear out that new EV registrations were
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 31
327,000 in 2019, which went down to 295,000 in 2020. Like other markets, the US EV market too is dominated by BEVs, which continued to grow albeit at a slow 2% pace. The majority of EVs in the US belong to either General Motors or Tesla. The 2020 tax credits for the two firms reached their cap leading to a decrease in federal incentives to buy EVs.
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 32
Other Major Nations Overall, other EV markets displayed remarkable resiliency in 2020. Here is the brief: Canada- New car sales slumped by 21%, but new EV registration remained the same. New Zealand- Here, both new traditional car sales (21%) declined, and new EV registrations fell by 22%, primarily due to the April 2020 lockdown.
Japan- New car market declined by 11% compared to the harder hit EV registration figures (25%). Overall, Europe is poised to overtake China as the largest EV market. Except the exceptional from electric vehicles market as the environment takes center stage in the human narrative!

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TERROR THAT WOMEN FACE DURING WAR CRISIS
JUNE 2022 | Issue 24 | 34

s it only the men who hold guns to fight the war? The answer is No. Men and women alike have to face the severe consequences of war. No one can escape the devastating impact of armed conflicts. At the same time, social media may be flooded with men fighting with each other to win the wars, visuals of mothers, wives, and daughters bidding farewell to their sons, husbands, and father who are going to the war. Studies and research have depicted that woman suffer disproportionately during the war and post-conflict season. The pre-existing gender disparities and prejudices increase while the struggle for women to establish their equal rights becomes magnified. The collapse of the social network threatens the security and safety of girls and women of almost every age and every societal tier. With the increasing number of organizations exploring women's problems during armed conflicts, there has been some focus on this arena; however, the magnitude remains lesser than what it should have been. Organizations like Red Cross and United Nations have actively taken steps and measures to protect women's interests and basic needs even during civilian wars.
Terrors Faced by Women During War
shown that the number of dropouts from school after wars is enormous, and mostly, these are girls. Girls never return to schools and colleges even after the war. ●• With the collapse of the professional ecosystem during wars and armed rivalry, women lost their jobs and livelihood. As a result, their independence and financial stability are highly compromised.
Responsibilities of Women During War • Women have traditionally played the role of victims during any war, as is evident from past evidence of history. But times have changed. Now women play active roles as peacekeepers, find raisers, and fighters for the war. ●• Almost every country has women armed forces who are capable of showing up gallantly during any war crisis. ●• Women are essential members of the peacekeeping committees and play significant roles as mediators to stop the war. ●• Women are now aware of their fundamental rights and safety measures. Women must safeguard their own and other women’s integrity, safety, and health.
●• Women are deprived of their basic safety and security even in their homes. When the opponents step into their territory, the basic safety of the women is hampered even in their own homes. Sexual violence, rapes, and molestations increase on an exponential, scale during any armed rivalry. • ●The basic sanitation and hygiene of the women are compromised mainly, which impacts their well-being and health. • ●Schools, colleges, universities, and training centers are shut down, and the women become even more distanced from even the primary preliminary education. Research has

●• With improved technology, women can now continue their studies and courses even without stepping out of the home. ●• Women have stepped forward, opened up, and are fighting relentlessly with international organizations to prevent the downfall of their prior status even during the wars. • Women and Wars have an integral connection. It is impressive to witness how women have stepped forward from the back foot over the years, taking active roles in ending wars and promoting peace.
