www.bizemag.com Abortion in India has been legal under various circumstances for the last 50 years with the introduction of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act in 1971. The Act was amended in 2003 to enable women's accessibility to safe and legal abortion services.

Further In 2021, MTP Amendment Act 2021 was passed with certain amendments in the MTP Act including all women being allowed to seek safe abortion services on grounds of contraceptive failure, increase in gestation limit to 24 weeks for special categories of women, and opinion of one provider required up to 20 weeks of gestation. Abortion is covered 100% by the government's public national health insurance funds, Ayushman Bharat and Employees' State Insurance. In wake of recent uproar in America about woman’s right to abortion, Indian scenario is quite different due to socio-economic factors. Here the in-laws including husband hardly give choice to woman about abortion due to several factors, leading to high mortality rate in both foetal and pregnant women. Law is necessary to curb such criminal mindsets. Contact us for feedback or submission of your story at contact@bizemag.com

Briefly describe your professional skills and the industry you are a part of.

Please tell us about your Childhood, Education and Early Career.

he above not only resonates with me but is the philosophy of my life.

Pathways School Gurgaon (PSG) is one of the leading IB schools in India and is the only continuum school in India as of date. I am a part of the senior leadership team at PSG and involved with strategic HR Planning, Operations and Management. My strength lies in streamlining processes, analytical thinking, problem solving abilities and simple yet strong communication with internal stakeholders. I have a keen interest in continuous HR policy development and process formulation for streamlining operations. I am a self-motivated learner and keep on donning different hats while dealing with staff concerns and issues. I am a counseling psychologist, Executive Life Coach, NLP Practi-

I come from a very humble family of educators and perhaps that is where my passion for education stems from. No matter how strange this may sound, I have never stopped learning or earning educational qualifications since my school days. I have earned many educational degrees, diplomas, and certifications to my credit. I have a Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology, dual MBA degree in HR & Marketing, MA in Psychology, and MA in English under my belt, to name a few. I have also completed Research Fellowship in Strategic HR Management from WHRB. I am a govt. certified POSH and POCSO Trainer besides being a Soft Skill Trainer. I have a keen interest in handwriting analysis and hence earned a degree as a Graphologist as well. A recent feather

that I have added to my cap is my certification as an Executive Life Coach which has added new dimensions to my HR profile. I started my career at a very early age when I was 17, just out of school as I wanted to be financially independent. Post school, I completed my diploma from YWCA in Office Management and started working as an intern. After two years of internship, understanding the need for computer literacy, I decided to hone my skills in computer literacy & joined a PG Diploma in computers while working. I joined the same institute as Manager – PR after the completion of the diploma and moved from one position to another within the same institute in no time. Within 6 years, I was heading the branch because of sheer hard work, determination, and zeal to excel & prove myself. I took a conscious break from work life post my marriage in 2000 and utilised my break to build up my resume and kept adding on new learnings while raising my children. After a gap of about 10 years, and after making my children independent to some extent, I resumed work post my return to India from Singapore, and today I am heading the Human Resource Department at Pathways School Gurgaon.

How did you become interested in Psychology?

How does your current role help you in exploring your psychology skills for the benefit of organisation? When an HR professional dons the hat of a psychologist, it’s a great combination. HR’s focus and expertise mainly lies in dealing with people. The essence of Human Resources lies in understanding the person before hire. It is of supreme importance to observe their behavioral attributes. Although skills, competencies and technology come into play it’s all about people. A psychological background helps me to sense and gauge the candidate’s personality traits during interview. Their body language, their appearance, tone of voice etc. are the next gestures to navigate their basic persona. It gives me the insight into their personality, and I take it as an indication and not as a judgement while interviewing. I purposefully started a system of candidates writing a paragraph about themselves on the spot which has helped me to assess their personalities through my graphology skills as well. I introduced a personality assessment test for the candidates as well which gives all the stakeholders a deeper insight into the candidate’s personality and his/her career aspirations. Placing the right employee in the right position based on his or her strengths, and then building a sense of flow and engagement in work

I always been inclined towards Psychology knowing it not only helps an HR profile enormously but also helps in understanding the human behavior and psychology which can be an asset in any field of life. I chanced upon pursuing my interest in Psychology when I was in Singapore in 2010 as my husband got posted there. I first completed a certificate course in Psychology, followed by a Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from MDIS, Singapore. I ultimately found my passion in the subject and knew in the heart of hearts that this is my calling. I always say – my bread and butter are Human Resources, but my heart lies with Psychology. Upon return to India, I pursued a formal degree in Psychology and since then, there has been no looking back.

not only boosts productivity but contributes to the loyalty and well-being of the worker. Sensing their engagement, interest areas and their growth aspirations helps me in maximising their potential and performance and my psychology background certainly comes handy here. My guidance and counselling qualifications are put to best use while resolving employee’s conflicts and issues that they are facing in their day to day professional life. Life Coach training did equip me with the skills to help the staff resolve their own issues through coaching guidance.

In this journey what have been your make or break moments? Oh, there have been many! There have been moments of ‘fight or flight’ every now and then. Honestly, being an HR professional is not easy. You can’t be friends with your colleagues and staff members to ensure that you aren’t biased. Most of the times you will find yourself standing alone and would be unsure of your decisions as well. You will find yourself torn between emo-

tions and righteousness. You will be judged for every action of yours and you would not be able to keep everyone happy, despite your level-best efforts. It actually is a lonely place to be in where you can’t confide in anybody since the confidentiality needs to be maintained. To top it all, you need to maintain neutrality in your decisions without getting emotional and that too within the policy framework. That’s truly a lot!!! As an HR professional and a counseling psychologist, my job is to absorb people’s issues, concerns, and problems throughout the day like a sponge. As a human being, there is not a moment to express your own struggles or pain areas, and hence the ‘fight or flight’ moments. Having said that, there are rewarding moments in the journey too. When you are able to make peace for someone after resolving a conflict, are able to provide them solutions to their issues, are able to bring in a change which is welcomed and appreciated by staff, you kind of forget about all the roadblocks or those moments of ‘fight or flight’ and feel a sense of pride and joy in what you bring to the table.

What are the core values you ensure? "The phoenix must burn to emerge." ~ Janet Fitch Very profound statement and my mantra in life. My core values, I am sure, have been a result of the way I have been raised by my parents, and have been deeply ingrained into me. They are –  Hard work and honesty bring success for sure!  Do not shy away from speaking your mind, you may not be liked by some initially, but you will be understood in the longer run!  Give your 100% to whatever you are committed to!  Perseverance is the key, there is light at the end of the tunnel always!  Build on from your mistakes and failures, use them as a steppingstone, do not dwell on them!

In daily routine life, I struggled many a times because of some of them, like honesty at all times has put me into difficult situations  . Always speaking my mind was not the best & expected in certain situations, but I know and have experienced that it gives me a good sleep at night without having any guilt, and I sincerely thank my parents for teaching me some solid core value systems in life.

How do you define success? Who do you credit your success the most to? Success is very subjective; it means different things to different people. For me success is – - Achieving whatever you set out to achieve, even if it is not a huge target – if you are happy and content after achieving it and haven’t lost anything significant at the cost of that achievement. - Accomplishing something on your own terms, by setting your own rules and feeling proud of the end product.

- Achieving something when you know you put in your best to become the best basis your capacity and capabilities.

decisions and career aspirations and has been the biggest anchor of my life. He is my biggest critic ever as well .

For whatever little I am successful at, I owe it to my father, first of all. He allowed me so much freedom and made me independent enough to survive in this tough and competitive world despite us belonging to a pretty conservative family background. His words of wisdom still guide me in my day-to-day struggles.

Being a female, one gets chained by the emotions and responsibilities attached in your role as a mother and I am blessed to have two extremely strong & supportive children in my life who never complained whenever I was not around because of any work commitments. Without their support, perhaps the path would have been different.

Post marriage, my husband has been a pillar of strength for me. He supported me well in all my

How are you strategizing your professional growth in future? Like I mentioned earlier, I am a keen learner and keep on adding whatever I feel is relevant and can enhance my profile. For example, I am currently undergoing a degree in law from NLU, Bangalore as the knowledge of law can certainly add on to my profile. My core belief is that if you put in efforts in the right direction and earnestly, growth is bound to happen. Growth is not only moving from one designation to another designation. The primary goal should be to better yourself from what you were yesterday, hone your skills and improve your performance continuously. You should be ready to disrupt your routine and change your mind set for growth which is not only vertical. Focus on professional development, which is the process of learning, training, and trying new things – and professional growth will automatically follow.

What is your message for aspiring students who want to take Psychology or human resources as a career? Psychology perhaps is the most talked about career, especially after COVID hit. It is a career choice which opens many avenues like Counseling, Therapy, Coaching, Teaching, Special Educations etc. and is in demand in almost every industry. Same goes for Human Resources as well, HR Professionals are nowadays being absorbed by all small and big industries. A combination of both is the most sought after and is a very promising combination. My advice to young aspirants who want to make their career in either of these two would be most simple – 1. Create a balance between self and clients/staff 2. Nurture and care for self since both professions demand lot of absorption 3. Be empathetic but do not get too attached or lured by emotions as this could be dangerous and potentially self-destructing too

PRIYA CHHABRA

PHOTOGRAPHY GURGAON

An artist, a photographer, single independent mother are a few words to describe this charismatic lady. Compassion, love and laughter being the mainstays of her most interesting and exciting job. In an exciting conversation with her, we share her experiences as she photographs newborns, babies, kids, families and maternity photo-shoots through her lens.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 13

Bizemag: Have you always been entrepreneur? When and how did the idea coined to set up your own business? Priya Chhabra: Yes, as a matter of fact I have been an entrepreneur, from the onset of my career. I started my career in the Ed Tech space. Quite different really from my journey now. This is my second innings at work and super thrilled that I got an opportunity to explore my

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 14

creative side this time round as a photographer. Much to my delight, being as creative as I could possibly be, I still manage to use all the experience I have garnered in my many years as an entrepreneur into my photography brand as well. To tell you more about me today, I am and represent "Priya Chhabra Photography". I specialize in life inspired portrait photography, creating

timeless portraits and doing photoshoots in the genre of family, babies, children, and maternity photography Bizemag: Good to know! Would you please tell readers about your formal education and early career before you join photography? Priya Chhabra: I graduated in Fine Arts from The Stella Maris College, Chennai and then went on to doing my post-graduation in business

administration. This is what took me on my entrepreneurial journey way back in 2000 when I shifted base to New Delhi. I discovered my real calling as a Photographer after I became a mother for the second time with my little son. Post my break after his birth is when I decided to go into photography professionally full time. I went back to educating myself, upskilling my talents in this genre of newborn, maternity and family photography. During this period, I trained under internationally renowned photographers in the space of newborn, baby and maternity photography and mastered the art. Bizemag: What are the professional challenges? And how did you overcome these challenges when you started? Priya Chhabra: Speaking of challenges, I wouldn't say that there were many as I love my work and when that's the case you enjoy every aspect of it. Having said that, this genre of photography when I started way back was relative-

ly new in the country. People had not heard of maternity photography, and it was unlike now when it's a more common thing. Today I photograph newborns as young as 10 days which was unheard of when I had begun. It was more about bringing a transformation in mindsets. As i progressed, the only small hurdle i faced was to put forward my belief that “less is always more” As a portrait photographer, I am creating art for you, and you don't need to have 100 images to tell a story, beautifully created 15 or 20 portraits can really tell your story so very well!! Bizemag: Priya, I would say that your education in Fine Arts was playing a role into your new career, and you were trying to mold the traditional photography into a storytelling to the people. Priya Chhabra: Absolutely, when I started my first innings, as I had mentioned to you was my startup in the educational space. I had a company where I was into marketing and PR. This

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 15

was my second innings and I was sure that this time around, I wanted it to be something that was very close to my heart, something that was connected to my roots, which was creativity. Most definitely my background in Fine Arts gave me a cutting edge with my understanding of compositions, color and lighting. This is what makes my images come to life! Being a peoples person, I could connect one on one with each of my clients which made it so very easy to capture emotions in their stories of love in the most natural and comfortable way. Bizemag: What is your unique style of photography? How would you explain that?

Priya Chhabra: When it comes to my style of photography, It's more natural and timeless. I like to create portraits which, when you see 20 years down the line, make you smile and go “Wow”. And of course, because I'm dealing with babies, it's all got to be fun too. My photoshoots with toddlers are almost like a party with everyone including parents and me dancing to the baby’s most favorite rhymes and sometimes bollywood hits too!! Yes most definitely, these are the three words that would describe my style of photography timeless, natural, and fun!

Bizemag: As you said, you're working with babies, how tough is it? Priya Chhabra: Photographing babies is a complete pleasure. The biggest measure of this is when you see the smiles on the faces of the proud parents. When they see their images and the reactions I get, I think are the biggest rewards. To photograph babies, I would say, the one thing you need to have in abundance is patience! The baby is the boss literally on our sets! So, if they want to take their own time to JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 16

give you a shot, they will, you must be prepared for that. And in that sense, yes, patience is a big necessity. I always tell my parents, getting a family photoshoot done is an experience, the whole process is about creating memories right from the day of the shoot till the end result of those pretty smiling faces in the images. You will cherish every moment of it, that's a promise! Bizemag: What are the distinct solutions that you offer to clients over the other competitors in the market? Priya Chhabra: Speaking of competition, I believe that art has no limit and we set our own goals. It is very, very important that I like to create art out of every image that I take. That's one thing I love doing, I like to add an artistic touch to every image that i take. The other thing, which is feedback I get from a lot of my parents, is that my work is quite unique and minimalistic, where I try and keep the focus more on the baby. With my maternity portraits the aim is to capture the true emotions that parents - to - be are experiencing and ensure the expecting mamma feels beautiful inside out. Bizemag: Your target audience is parents basically if I understand Priya Chhabra: Yes, they are my target audience - families, parents, new parents and going to be parents. Having said that we also get approached by youngsters who are looking to get some artistically clicked portraits of themselves. Corporate professionals looking for professionally shot portraits. Bizemag: How do you define success? Who do you credit your success most to?

Priya Chhabra: To put it as simple as I can put it, when people want to work with you, that just shows that you’re successful, and you're good at what you do. To me, that is what defines your success. Credit goes to your patience and the hard work you put in, because that's what measures it. Last but not the least, of course, credit goes to my beautiful, beautiful babies and the mamas who I photograph for looking as cute and gorgeous as they do!! Bizemag: Please share about your achievements and awards. Ah, Priya Chhabra: I'm happy to say that I am recognized as one of the leading photographers in the maternity and baby photography industry. Humbled to be mentioned among the top three or the top five photographers in Delhi NCR, by renowned houses like Times group and some well-known parenting publications. I've received recognition for the “top artists for the year” award, “the top 100 Women Icon “ to name a few. Honestly, the biggest reward is having the ability to play a small part in the most precious and joyous moments of someone's life and in a manner such that you'll be remembered for a long time to come!

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 17

Bizemag: What would be your inspiring message for aspiring women entrepreneurs or woman photographers? Priya Chhabra: I've always lived with and believed that, “you either win, or you learn…You never loose!! My message to them would be that simply stay at it, you must keep doing what you're doing. Just keep believing in yourself. Everything will fall into place sooner than later! “ You become what you believe”!!

The Risks & Challenges in Digital Payments/Money

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 20

O

nline payments were growing at a considerably high pace before the pandemic, but the pandemic has accelerated the growth rate largely. There has been a dramatic rise in the contactless payment modes as per the need of the hour. Across the Globe, more than 30 % of the total payments now happen online. The spike in E-payment is holistic and not restricted to any one industry. Most of the large business houses and even the small-medium enterprises rely on online payments for their business execution. The common people are comfortable with the cashless modality. One primary thing that we must understand in this context is that this relentless change and the current high pace of the change are quite complex. There is a huge integration of networks that makes a secure online payment feasible. When any company offers the option of online payment acceptance, it must look after plenty of real-time aspects, including a solid way to

solve any problems should they arise. An array of factors that must be considered by the companies are: ● Channels to support the payment   Adherence to any national standard of payment (existing in certain countries) ● A reliable and functional banking partner ●  A smooth, secure, and hassle-free payment gateway ●  Extremely profound security measures for prevention of any fraud cases ●  Verification and identity authentication to prevent any identity or data theft Undoubtedly, there has been an excellent development of modern technology that helps ensure all these prerequisites. There are also multiple new fraud prevention techniques through which, even if there is any loophole in the security parameter, it can be identified and sorted out immediately.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 21

But one of the main restaurants in this aspect is the development cost. The development and operating costs of these payment gateway technologies are quite high, and companies must consider that. Also, gaining the customer base and maintaining them for a long time is equally vital to keep the digital payment modality continuously working.

Risks Associated with Digital Payments The digital payment market is a novice, and with the advent of the new market, new technologies step in new risks. Let us have a look at the most conspicuous risk factors associated with the digital payment system:

Cross Border Operation Many people consider security and theft issues as the primary problem associated with the digital payment interface, but that is not the primary one. The first problem associated with paying and accepting money digitally is the cross-border operation. Every country has its unique payment system. With the perimeters of the country, there is a Unified Payment

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 22

Gateway. But in the world of globalization, businesses are no more restricted to the borders of a country. A consumer from the USA may wish to buy the best dresses from Bangkok. Or a company from Korea may wish to buy mozzarella cheese from the Netherlands. If this is the case, then how are they supposed to pay and receive? The need to facilitate the cross-border online payment interface is becoming prominent with every passing day. However, there have been some baby steps in this regard. Western Union, Google Pay, and Wise are some of the teams that have announced to facilitate this process of Online International Money Transfer, and plenty of countries are going to be facilitated by this process. We can expect that multi-Currency transfers will become easier, less expensive, and, most importantly, faster with the help of such technical upgrades.

Technology Standards A highly flexible and scalable technology with room for irregular upgradation is needed for the smooth operation of any Unified Payment Gate-

way. Each country has certain National Standards regarding the use of technology for the operation of a gateway like this. There exist certain pre-set infrastructures for online payment systems stated by ISO 2022 and is important to adopt them. The technological parameters associated with online payment systems should prioritize the actual need of the consumers. For example, online payment systems should come up with instructional interfaces to make their usage easier and convenient for people who are not tech-savvy. The interfaces must allow for any change to fit in whenever it is needed.

Poor Internet Bandwidth The Internet is the guiding spirit of online payments. You cannot pay through any online gateway if your device is not connected to the internet. One of the many issues that consumers face is the failure in payment when the device is not connected to a very strong internet connection. Low bandwidth of the internet is one of the root causes of failed online transactions. The failure in payment is primarily due to the non-responsiveness of the servers whenever they cannot gain access to the required bandwidth. Many instances also reflect that even though the amount is depicted from the sender’s bank account, it does not get deposited in the receiver’s account. The Online Payment interfaces should make sure that their software and applications can also operate in low internet bandwidth. There are some payment gateways that have adopted measures like intelligent routing and direct integrations with banks to make the payment transfer process super-fast, such that it needs the least internet connectivity. These measures ensure that the operation can happen hassle-free even though the internet connection is not very strong.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 23

Data Security This is perhaps the most crucial concern associated with online payments. A whole section of the society abstains from using online payment systems simply because they fear that is not safe. The core areas that we must understand here are the root causes of this concern: ●●  There is no physical person you can go and accuse of theft in case there is something wrong with the money transfer ●●  There is a possibility that someone else can hack your account and gain access to your personal details, but that is not quite possible with the physical; bank note-mediated payments ●●  Identity theft and impersonation are two main crimes associated with the online payment system. Owing to these, many people are not comfortable with using online payment systems. Indeed, these are some concerns we cannot walk away from. But the good news is that payment systems are becoming more secure and sustainable to cater to a larger group of audience and users. In countries like India, the rate of online payment system fraud has increased to 69% during the pandemic. There are various other scam reports that force us to doubt the integrity of online payment methods. One of the ways to overcome these data security issues is to learn how to handle the cards safely. One way to do this is to use interfaces complying with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. These interfaces follow certain specific rules and regulations when it comes to mediating online payments. Thus, you can have some help from it. At the same time, it is easier to reach the customer care section of such platforms, where you can communicate your concern.

The User Interface In countries like the USA or England, digital literacy is optimum. However, in developing countries like India or Bangladesh, digital literacy is not satisfactory. Many people in these

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 24

countries still do not have access to smart devices and a stable internet network. Some people have the devices but do not know how to make a payment using the smart phones. The User Interface design of many online payment interfaces is exceedingly complex. People find it difficult to understand how to cooperate and to send or receive money using the internet. They also do not come with any instructions. The fear of being unable to handle the interface properly and of losing their money in any attempt of trials keeps people away from using such complex payment interfaces. It is important for the companies and the online payment gateway developers to come up with user-friendly designs for their interfaces. The use of regional languages can be facilitated so that people without knowledge of English can access them as well. The Ease and speed of payments during any checkout process is also a crucial concern. The core idea is to help more users be able to use the interfaces, and it can be achieved by focusing on better customer experiences and making online payments easier.

Final Words Change is the only constant thing in this world. We are moving towards a brighter future that shall equip us with greater power to ensure comfort and feasibility in our lives. The evolution of society is one of the necessary aspects of change and growth. Online payment or the acceptance of digital money in the existing economic infrastructure is one such change. The challenges associated with online payments cannot be overlooked, nor can we rule out the risk factors, but the success in this field is becoming apparent. Adaptability is the key to growth and success, and digital payment is one such adaptability. Online payments are the best option for quicker, faster, and hassle-free payments. They are accurate, transparent, and the best fit for the modern technological era. We can expect some even more positive upgrades in this interface soon.

The Future of Money - Will Physical Money Disappear?

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 25

One of the biggest questions in front of the human civilization today is - whether physical money will disappear? In many countries, banknotes have already become relics. The irony is that We Chat and Alipay have completely taken over the markets of China, which is the birthplace of Paper Money. The reality is that, with digital payment transaction applications, paying and receiving money have become not only swift but also hassle-free. By scanning a QR code, you will now be able to send money to your beloved, to your grocery shops, and

even your kid’s school fees. That is completely phenomenal and amazing. The future of cash is indeed an ongoing debate, and the coalition will continue. While there are debates on the motion of the topic. Such digital payments make transactions safer and hassle-free. Cashless payments can also mitigate the dishonesty and laundering associated with cash. There are certainly strong points against the motion as well. These include- the disadvantaged and the poor people who

are away from the reach of digital currency and can't avail of such facilities of cashless payments. Also, in developing nations such as India, where a large section of people cannot afford a square meal every day, it is meaningless to expect digital payment mode in every sphere.

Shreds of Evidence to Prove the Dark Future of Cash No argument can stand without any validated real-time proof. Here are certain pieces

of evidence that give to the debate of whether cash - the historic barter commodity that once upon a time shaped the global economy is on the verge of extinction:

Rising Use of Electronic Payments Debit cards and credit cards have long been the game chargers of the economy. The increasing use of other cashless online payment modes, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm clearly points out that already a huge number of people have adapted themselves to the cashless mode. Credit cards and debit cards are a bit more complex, and not everyone can avail of them. However, these digital wallets and unified payment gateways are available to anyone who holds a bank account

and can link these to the same. The amplification in digitization and the number of internet users have facilitated online transactions more than ever. The use of cash is associated with crimes and corruption. Anything illegal, right from the crimes related to drugs to paying people under the table is all associated with cash. Bank notes were gradually becoming one of the potential corridors of the rising incidences of crime. The partial or differential elimination of cash from the economic network can help to mitigate or at least reduce the instances of such crimes. Also, it is easy to replace debit cards and credit cards if they are stolen. Even if your mobile phone gets stolen, you can prevent any financial loss by simply blocking the accounts. On the other hand, if only one banknote from your pocket gets stolen, it is not possible to replace the same.

Work Force Reduction With the lesser involvement of cash in transaction processes, companies can now think of reducing the staff in the bursar department. Lesser number of people are needed to control, monitor, and keep a record of the transactions than it was needed when all the transactions were cash oriented. Thus, electric payment mode is leading to the automation and digitization of the payment modalities involving lesser human intervention. This reduces the number of people needed to sit in the office physically to check out the accounts. Also, the incidences of mistakes in accounting bookkeeping drastically reduce with the payment modalities becoming digital.

Arguments Against a Future Cashless Economy There are two sides to every argument. The same is in this case. Even if there are plenty of arguments that support a cashless future, there are quite a few arguments that establish the need for an economy that involves transactions like cash. Let us have a look at some of them:

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 27

Cash is Still the Primary Exchange Mode It cannot be denied that cashless payments are becoming increasingly popular. But that cannot shift focus from the use of cash. Various surveys reflect that even though there is rising use of electronic and cashless payments in the middle and high-income groups, the poor households (that constitutes the largest and major section of any economy) still rely on the banknotes and physical cash as their primary modality. One of the major problems that most poor households face is that - they are not digitally literate. Also, they do not have access to high-end devices like smartphones or a stable internet connection

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 28

that are the prerequisites for conducting a cashless payment. The next big reason for their abstinence is that poor people cannot afford the bank fees or the convenience fees associated with such cashless transfers ad transactions. Many people even get their bank accounts closed due to nonsufficient basal bank balance. Not only the poor but the old people and the differently abled population are also unable to cope with the digital transaction method. People who are part of the rural population and do not have access to the internet are often deprived of the various facilities that would have made cashless transactions easier for them.

The elderly generation is not used to using the internet more often. Also, they distrust the digital transaction modes, apprehension that their money could get lost. All these reasons cumulatively form a barrier to the economy becoming completely cashless.

Identity Theft It is one of the crimes that is increasing at an alarming rate is that identity theft. In simple words, pretending to be someone that you are not or stealing someone else’s identity details to conduct any crime. This is easier and smoother in the case of online payment transactions. In real-time cash exchange, you cannot portray yourself as someone else, but when

paying online or committing any crime online, it is easy to steal someone else’s details and pretends to be that person. In the next phase, if the crime gets caught, it will be the innocent person whose identity has been stolen who shall get caught and not the real criminal. This is one of the major drawbacks of online payment transactions or the crucial setback of a cashless economy. The concept of a cashless economy may sound to be really fascinating, and it indeed offers a plethora of ben-

efits in some cases, but there are certain prominent drawbacks of the same as well.

Will Cash Become Obsolete? With the high rise in the number of digital transactions, there are certain clear indications that cash may turn out to be obsolete. But the change will take plenty of time to come about. There is a steady decline in the number of cash transactions, but in developing countries, the

complete shift to a cashless economy is not going to happen soon. Since barter has been the oldest form of exchange in the human economy and one of the main pillars over which the society grew, it won’t be that easy to eradicate the complete use of cash overnight. Cash is the centralized medium of economic transactions across the globe. It is accepted widely and is still the most common and most convenient way to buy and sell products and services.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 29

Cash may disappear, and the globe may become unified digital with transactions happening over the smartphones and the complete evaporation of the physical bank note questions. But the primary fact that stands in front of us is when and where this change will happen. According to some financial experts, this change may take another 100 years to happen. Meanwhile, this hybrid model of online and offline ways of transactions is the best. It is the best way to get along with the economy right now. For developed countries and the upper socioeconomic strata, the digital mode of payments may seem to be the perfect one and the convenient one, but in third world countries and for the lower economic groups, smartphones, a legit bank account, and the internet connection to operate the payments digitally - all

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 30

of them are luxury. Thus it won’t be a feasible option to switch over to the completely cashless mode right at this moment. There is another possible apprehension that is looming around in the finance world is - a cashless economy might take us back to the barter system of exchange. Extinction of banknotes is not a suitable decision completely. In this age, the commodity of barter will be the invisible cryptocurrency. But still, then, not 100 percent of the population is acquainted with crypto and its working. It took quite a few centuries for the world to get accustomed to money and currency and for the existing system to consolidate. It can be well expected that it will take a few more centuries for money to go completely extinct. Meanwhile, the cashless transaction with online wallets can keep on rising successfully.

The new Universe - The Metaverse Summary: Technology has empowered the expression of thought and enabled richer world experiences. The digital environment is poised for incredible economic growth. It is expected to reach $2.5 trillion by 2030. Most technology giants envision it as the future of the internet. In this article, Dr. Mythili Kolluru reveals the length and breadth of the new digital universe, the metaverse.

The evolving Metaverse All the technological revolutions the world has experienced have had significant implications for individuals and commerce. In the earlier days, the internet was called the information

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 32

super way. That was called Web 1.0, which connected the world to information. Then came Web 2.0, where the internet-connected people with each other via various social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Snapchat. We are presently at the end of Web 2.0 and the beginning of Web 3.0 - this is about connecting people, places, and things. The world has moved forward in the continuum of innovation and digital transformations from the internet of data to people to places and now to the internet of digital ownership. Metaverse brings to the world a series of virtual and physical experiences. Unlike viewing a screen, people can now have an immersive experience—a feeling of greater sense of the

shared screen. Metaverse presents a spectrum of experiences. It is beyond looking; metaverse has the potential to make the time we spend on-screen richer and more natural.

The metaverse ecosystem The metaverse is still abstract with enormous potential. So, there is no specific definition of metaverse. It is still in the nascent stage of development. It has a deeper integration of our physical lives and digital spaces. The experiences can happen in the physical and virtual worlds. The metaverse will connect people, places, and assets. The metaverse will be enabled with different technologies like; Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 5G, Edge technologies, voice cloud, Blockchain and many more emergent technologies. A confluence of these technologies will make our virtual experience richer and more authentic. Blockchain is the building block of the metaverse because it is the technology that enables people to have digital ownership of digital assets. The metaverse is an ecosystem that is constantly changing. The basic concept of the Metaverse involves; avatars, home-space, teleporting, goods and natural interfaces, marketplaces, interoperability, crypto, and NFTs. Some of the key members of the metaverse are: Marketplace: a place where value is exchanged. Some famous marketplaces on the metaverse are Nifty gateway, Opensea, ARI Exchange, and Known Origin. Currency: currencies on the metaverse are cryptocurrencies represented as coins. They are volatile and fluctuate based on the ecosystem. The most significant currencies are Manna, Axis, SAM, and Gala. Creators: They are the artists who create virtual fashion, digital art, virtual goods, and virtual worlds. Collectors: are the people who want to invest and buy into the digital assets being created. NFTs: They are called non-fungible tokens. They have gained popularity since 2000. An

NFT is a unique and non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a digital ledger such as a blockchain. It represents links to distinctive pieces of digital media, which can be art, text, video, or even a bit of code. It is released as a drop and can be sold again and again in the secondary market. Avatar: an avatar is a virtual version of the real you. An Avatar is both unique and inspirational. It is an individual's online representation. And, what we wear matters a lot, especially to Generation Z and Alpha. We can also purchase virtual accessories and clothes and choose how our Avatar looks. In the future, Avatars will move from one platform to another and socialize, interact, play, and work.

Leveraging the metaverse for competitive advantage In the metaverse, space content is persistent and comprises vast amounts of information on activity that stays anchored. It is steady, dynamic, shareable, and 3D machine-readable. The revolution of print produced the age of digital marketing. Now it is the age of a digital ecosystem called the metaverse. Metaverse will reach a market potential of $800 billion by 2024. Metaverse will affect how we socialize, work, play, and even shop. The Metaverse platform or gateways have been gaining traction since 2020. Corporates can use metaverse in many verticals like engineering, manufacturing, education, and tourism. Metaverse has a broad scope. Companies can use the metaverse in customer service and customer meetings. Metaverse will be necessary for companies, cities, nations, and the people. Metaverse companies are at the forefront of transforming the digital world with immersive experiences in the future. Meta, NVIDIA, Epic Games, Microsoft, Apple, Decentraland, Roblox, Unity Software, and Snapchat are the leading companies developing metaverse technologies. These companies are focused on empowering businesses with the supply of software, advanced tools, and technologies for the metaverse.

During the pandemic, Accenture hired over 1,50,00 employees. They had a virtual campus called Accenture Park for induction and capability building. The company distributed 60,000 headsets for all the new recruits. They have also extended the metaverse experience to customers. The textile giant Zara has chosen Zepeto as the metaverse to launch its first collection of virtual garments. Zepeto is a South Korean metaverse, one of the fastest-growing virtual environments. Samsung has launched its space in Decentraland. The Samsung metaverse space is like the Samsung 837 store in New York only. Facebook tops the list for highest investment in the metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg has rebranded the social network Facebook as Meta. Facebook believes that meta will become the 3D space where you can interact, learn, collaborate, work, and play in ways unimaginable. Facebook plans to invest 30% of its revenue in the metaverse. It believes that the metaverse will create over 10,000 more jobs in the Europe market. Facebook is working on horizons for the metaverse. They are building horizons, homes, worlds, and workrooms for collaboration and communication with friends across layers of technologies. Recently Nike, McDonald's, Dolce, and Gabbana have entered the

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 34

metaverse. Decentraland is a decentralized metaverse platform owned by the users who get to vote on how the platform operates. Currently, the cheapest plot of land costs $11,000, and Samsung has bought digital real estate for their virtual stores. Roblox is a global gaming giant. It has an ecosystem with 42.4 million daily users. Consultancy firms have also joined in to take a share of the evolving metaverse. Deloitte is one of the major consultancy firms that has launched an initiative to assist companies in navigating the metaverse opportunities. The leading research firm Gartner has stated that by 2026, 25% of the people will be spending at least one hour on the metaverse. Warner Bros launched a virtual party on Roblox to market its movie" In the Heights." Walt Disney, a leader in imagination, is branding their metaverse projects. In 2020, Disney announced the launch of theme park metaverse, which will be the convergence of physical and digital worlds for immersing the visitors in the metaverse experiences. Gucci and Nike have also created their playground in the virtual world. Nike and Ralph Lauren have collaborated with social platforms like Snapchat to provide wardrobe options for their users' avatars. Our Avatar will allow us to express our online identity. The pandemic has lunged us all into the online culture. Organiza-

tions, especially marketing and communication professionals, must watch the metaverse keenly as it is the next frontier in online interactions.

Concluding remarks The exploration of the metaverse is going to continue in new ways as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and the Internet of Things (IOT) the underpinning technologies mature and increase interconnectivity. A full-fledged economy and world where hybrid and digital co-exist and collaborate are not yet fully realized. The metaverse is one step towards realizing a fully functional and thriving digital ecosystem. Commerce is happening at unprecedented speed and scale inside the virtual worlds. The metaverse is a developing and happening opportunity to be leveraged by companies. Time alone will reveal how the metaverse will emerge as the next internet.

Overcoming The Working Woman Guilt: Kid’s Care vs. Career

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 37

How Do you manage to do all that by yourself? Whether you are a woman working in the corporate, private sector, or the centralized government sector. Whether owning a boutique or being a successful entrepreneur, if you are a woman and you have come far up the ladder of your professional life, it is not possible that you have not heard this question at least once. The preconceived notion of society that work and family cannot go well is the fundamental reason for the stereotypical concept that women are a better fit for the home. Raising children and securing their future has become a chore labeled for women. We have feminists coming up with plenty of arguments against this idea. But the reality check says something else. The picture says that because it is a woman who had carried the child for a long time in her womb and has felt the child's presence even before it was born, she feels the child’s responsibility is more on her. This is quite natural, and this instinct gives rise to “working woman guilt.”

identity, and self-worth are enhanced by being a mother. It is an added feather on your hat, but it is not the only feather, and you do not have to make it. Your love for yourself as a human being and a woman deserves priority. ●• I t is not a cardinal sin to be a working mother. You are going out to work, and opening work opportunities for others has nothing to do with your role as a mother. The game is all about time and responsibility management. So, the first task is to eliminate guilt and realize that you are a woman who has her own identity and can independently support herself and her family. This has nothing to do with what kind of a mother you are. • I t is not about the number of hours you spend with your child, but the values you impart to the child and the connection you share with your children matters the most.

Practical Life Hacks Roots of the Problem Before we get into the depth of how one can overcome the guilt and have a harmonious life, it is essential to decoding the concept of this guilt. What do you think gives birth to such self-inflicted guilt? • F amily members and surrounding people make the mother feel incapable of her duties as a mother. It is often even the partner (husband ) who makes her think that she prioritizes work more than her children, which is a grave mistake. ●• T he pre-existing stereotype is too gravely sculpted in women's minds that if they cannot devote their entire life to their kids, they fail as mothers. But, at the same time, the truth is that - strong women who have a sense of self-worth and importance of identity raise strong children who think the same. • S ociety and women, in particular, have to start believing that becoming mothers is not the end line of being yourself. Your name,

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 38

GET UP EARLY This is important and perhaps the most crucial advice to every working mom. Set your day at the earliest possible. Settle your tasks that need to be done at home before your child gets up. This is very important because working mothers usually get significantly less time to spend with their children. This is mainly because you do most of the work when your child is awake, and then you miss out on time, always running behind the clock, stressed and overburdened. So, you need to manage your time well and thus start your day early. TRY TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE MEAL TOGETHER. Your child is busy as well as you are. But make sure to have at least one main meal with your child, sitting at the same table without any gadgets around. If possible, cook at least one favorite dish for your kid every day. Do not let your child forget what their mom’s cooked food tastes like. The most important relationships are built over food. The same principle applies to all relationships, including kids and parents.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 39

TALK Find out at least 10 minutes in the day to sit with your kid, hold their hands, and listen to them. Listen to everything that makes sense to you and those that do not make sense. Never display in front of your kids that you are not interested in listening to them. This shall make them hide things from you which may get them into trouble. There should never be a communication gap between you and your kids. TRY TO LEAVE WORK AT THE OFFICE Try not to drag your office work home. This makes the kids feel that their work is more important than theirs. Make them understand that your work is essential but not at their cost. REMEMBER IMPORTANT DATES Forgetting important dates is one of the things that disappoint children more than anything. So, make sure you remember the important dates like those of Parent-Teacher Meetings, their concerts, their parties, etc. To make things easier, set reminders on your phone. Even if not always possible, make sure to turn on time on these special days to have fun with your kids.

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 40

Final Words Remember that you do not have to prove your worth as a mother to the rest of the world. It is an intimate affair between you and your kid. Both of you have to be happy with each other. The world has nothing to do here. Make your kids understand this right from a very young age. They must know, understand and learn that their mother works and her work is as essential in their mother’s life as they are. Imparting the good values in your children from a tender age helps them rise above prejudices and let them visualize their mothers first as human beings and then as their mothers. A mother is nature’s most prized possession to a child; there should be love, acre, and responsibility to strengthen the bond.

Las Vegas

JULY 2022 | Issue 25 | 41

I

f life gives you a hard time, maybe you should consider going to Vegas. Considered one of the most happening destinations across the globe, Las Vegas is undoubtedly the place to visit if you are looking for a break from your mundane life. Vegas is known across the world as a popular party destination. But there is no hint of that image in the current Las Vegas. Casinos, parties, dance, music, and lights are synonymous with Las Vegas. One of the core reasons why many people not interested in vacationing visit Vegas is because it is the current gambling capital of the world. Las Vegas has been the gambling hotspot for the entire world since 1931. This has precisely led to the evolution of Las Vegas as the capital and popular tourist destination. The unbound freedom of doing whatever you like and spending your time in whichever way you want without any rules and regulations is the charm of Las Vegas. Tourists flock to Las Vegas throughout the year, but winters are always better. During summers, the day temperatures are close to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, which makes it not so comfortable.
