THE Indian diaspora in Australia has emerged as a dynamic and influential community, shaping the nation's economic, political, and cultural landscape through its growing presence and contributions.

The Indian diaspora in Australia, which numbers around 976,000 individuals as per the census, is one of the fastest-growing and most influential communities in the country. Recent developments have significantly impacted various aspects of the community, including property investments, political engagement, cultural dynamics, societal challenges, and media representation.

Indian-Australian property investors continue to expand their presence in the Australian real estate market. One such investor, Rupinder Brar, has made substantial land acquisitions in Victoria,

reflecting the growing economic influence of the Indian community. Brar owns 20 Kinloch Pty Ltd, which purchased a 12-hectare land in Craigieburn for $13 million. Additionally, Doyles 600 Pty Ltd, a company associated with Brar, acquired three blocks in Shepparton for $4.5 million. These strategic investments highlight the increasing financial footprint of Indian-Australians in the real estate sector.

The political influence of the Indian diaspora is also expanding. Home Affairs

Minister Tony Burke has introduced a pre-election citizenship initiative aimed at clearing the backlog of pending applications. This initiative is particularly beneficial for the Indian community, given that many new Australian citizens are of Indian origin. By expediting citizenship approvals, the initiative aims to enable

more Indian-Australians to participate in the electoral process, strengthening their political engagement and representation.

As the Indian diaspora continues to grow, so does the need for government support in fostering multiculturalism and addressing community aspirations. Ensuring inclusive policies and initiatives will be crucial in promoting the wellbeing and representation of Indian-Australians in all facets of society.

The Indian diaspora in Australia continues to make significant contributions across various sectors, from real estate investments to political participation. While the community faces challenges such as internal divisions and social disparities, its resilience and economic influence continue to expand. The evolving dynamics of the Indian-Australian

experience highlight the diaspora’s integral role in shaping Australia’s multicultural identity and future.

HOLI, the vibrant festival of colours, is one of the most celebrated festivals in India and among Indian communities worldwide. This joyous occasion signifies the arrival of spring, the triumph of good over evil, and the renewal of life. Rooted in ancient traditions, Holi is a time for people to come together, forget past grievances, and strengthen bonds through playful splashes of colour, music, and dance.

The significance of Holi goes beyond its religious origins. It serves as a reminder of unity, love, and the importance of community harmony. The legend of Holi, which revolves around the victory of devotion and righteousness, is a testament to the power of faith and resilience. During the festival, bonfires are lit to symbolise the burning away of negativity, making way for new beginnings filled with joy and togetherness.

In Australia’s multicultural society, Holi plays a crucial role in promoting inclusivity and cultural understanding. As a country that embraces diversity, Australia provides a platform for various communities to celebrate their heritage while fostering cross-cultural exchanges. Holi has become a widely recognised event, bringing together people of all backgrounds to partake in the festivities, strengthening social connections and mutual respect among different ethnic groups.

Holi’s essence of unity and harmony aligns perfectly with Australia’s values of multiculturalism. Events hosted in major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane attract thousands of attendees from various cultural backgrounds. These celebrations, featuring traditional Indian music, dance performances, and colour throwing, create an atmosphere of joy and acceptance, allowing people from diverse origins to share in the beauty of Indian traditions.

From the perspective of the Australian Indian Times, our cultural festivities play a vital role in connecting the Indian diaspora while contributing to the broader Australian

multicultural society. Holi, alongside other Indian festivals, strengthens our sense of identity, fosters intercultural understanding, and creates opportunities for engagement between diverse communities. By sharing our traditions, we enhance Australia's cultural richness, demonstrating that celebrations like Holi are not just about colour and festivity, but about building a more inclusive and harmonious society for all.

Beyond Holi, festivals such as Diwali, Navratri, and Vaisakhi also serve as vital cultural expressions for the Indian diaspora. These celebrations allow people to reconnect with their roots while showcasing Indian traditions to the wider Australian community. They create spaces where individuals from different backgrounds can engage with Indian culture, taste traditional food, experience classical and folk dances, and witness the significance of these age-old traditions.

The role of cultural media, including the Australian Indian Times, is crucial in amplifying the voice of the diaspora and ensuring that these traditions are celebrated widely. Through media coverage, interviews, and

event promotions, we help bridge the gap between generations of Indian Australians while also educating the wider community on the significance of these cultural events.

Moreover, the Indian diaspora’s participation in multicultural festivals hosted across Australia further strengthens intercultural ties. Events like the Parramasala Festival in Sydney and the Multicultural Festival in Canberra provide a platform where Indian culture is celebrated alongside other ethnic traditions, reinforcing the importance of diversity and mutual respect. These interactions foster a more inclusive society where various communities learn from one another, breaking barriers and forging friendships.

As Holi continues to grow in prominence in Australia, its essence of joy, unity, and forgiveness becomes even more relevant in today’s fast-paced world. In a time where global conflicts and social divisions persist, festivals like Holi remind us of the importance of empathy, togetherness, and celebrating differences. It is through such cultural festivities that we can continue to promote peace and harmony in an increasingly interconnected world.

The Australian Indian Times remains committed to supporting, documenting, and sharing these cultural experiences. By highlighting the impact of Holi and other Indian festivals in Australia, we not only celebrate our rich heritage but also contribute to strengthening the multicultural fabric of the nation. In doing so, we reaffirm our role in fostering cross-cultural appreciation, inspiring future generations, and ensuring that the values of love, respect, and unity remain at the heart of our diverse society.

Australia Introduces Skills in Demand Visa: Spotlight on Core and Specialist Skills Streams

AUSTRALIA has revamped its migration system with the introduction of the Skills in Demand Visa, replacing the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482). At the heart of this change are two new streams—the Core Skills Stream and the Specialist Skills Stream. These streams focus on addressing critical workforce gaps in essential and high-skill sectors, making the visa more aligned with the country’s current labour market demands.

WHY THE FOCUS ON CORE AND SPECIALIST SKILLS?

The Skills in Demand Visa aims to fix limitations in the previous TSS visa by offering more targeted solutions. While the Labour Agreement and Subsequent Entrant streams remain unchanged, the Core Skills Stream and Specialist Skills Stream introduce much-needed flexibility for employers and better opportunities for skilled workers. These new streams provide clear pathways to address both essential workforce shortages and specialized skills gaps.

CORE SKILLS STREAM: BRIDGING ESSENTIAL WORKFORCE GAPS

The Core Skills Stream ensures that employers can fill critical roles in industries such as healthcare, education, and skilled trades, all of which face acute labour shortages. This stream supports businesses struggling to find local talent by offering a temporary but structured solution.

KEY DETAILS:

• Stay Duration: Up to 4 years (5 years for Hong Kong passport holders).

• Eligibility: Applicants must be nominated to work in an occupation listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).

YOU MUST:

• Be nominated to work in a CSOL occupation.

• Have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field.

• Complete a relevant skills assessment if required.

• Work only for your sponsor or their associated entity, unless exempt.

This stream offers employers the flexibility to secure talent in essential roles while giving skilled workers access to stable, rewarding opportunities in sectors vital to the Australian economy.

SPECIALIST SKILLS STREAM: FILLING HIGH-DEMAND, NICHE ROLES

The Specialist Skills Stream targets advanced roles requiring unique expertise. This stream enables employers to hire workers for highly specialized positions, ensuring Australia remains competitive in fields like IT, engineering, and medical sciences.

KEY DETAILS:

• Stay Duration: Up to 4 years (5 years for Hong Kong passport holders).

• Eligibility: Applicants must be nominated for roles listed in Major Groups 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 under the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO).

THE Indian capital of Delhi is now run by Rekha Gupta as chief minister, 4th in the history of this city-state and the only one in the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) states in India. In a resounding victory, BJP won 48 of the 70 seats, coming back to power in Delhi after 27 years and putting an end to the 11-year rule of the Aam Admi Party (AAP).

India's 2025 New Income Tax Bill - Impact on NRIs, Foreign Firms

UNDER US President Donald Trump’s new administration undocumented immigrants are being deported back to home countries. India is among the top three that also include Mexico and El Salvador.

On Sunday 16th February 2025 late evening, a US military aircraft arrived at Amritsar International airport with the third batch of deportees numbering 112. The first batch of 104 deportees arrived on 5 February and the second batch of 116 deportees on 15th February. Within 10 days 332 Indians have been sent back as they entered the US illegally and were living there without

DURING THE RECENT VISIT TO US OF PRIME MINISTER MODI, INDIA OFFICIALLY RAISED THE ISSUE THAT DEPORTEES WERE SENT SHACKLED AND RESTRAINED IN THE FLIGHT, AND FREED UPON ARRIVAL IN INDIA. AFTER HEATED PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE AND UPROAR IN INDIA, INDIAN OFFICIALS REQUESTED THAT A HUMANE APPROACH BE USED AND DEPORTEES SHOULD NOT BE ILL-TREATED.

documents.

In the latest batch, 31 are from Punjab, 44 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, two from Uttar Pradesh and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The families of some of them came to Amritsar airport to receive them. Indian sources said the deportees will be sent home after completing

official formalities that include verification of their Indian identity, background checks and papers. Indian government has made arrangements for their return to native places in the country.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had assured Parliament that India was engaging with US on the issue. Modi highlighted the issue of human trafficking, noting that most if not all deportees were duped and had to pay millions if Rupees with the lure of permanent immigration. The US says that deportation of undocumented illegal immigrants is not new and action taken is in the interest of national security and public safety of the United States. It is believed that both India and the US cooperate on ascertaining the background of deportees.

THE Income Tax Bill, 2025, needs a good study by NonResident Indians (NRIs) and foreign companies aided by tax advisors as it will impact tax liabilities, introduce exemptions, and outline stricter compliance requirements. Analysts say the Bill does refines certain regulations of the past, offering clearer ways to deal with taxation for NRIs and foreign companies operating in India. Tax rates for dividends and interest income remain largely unchanged, the new measures for recovery, withholding tax, and stricter departure rules imply that NRIs should be more attentive. Attached are highlights of rules and clarifications in the new Bill.

US President Donald Trump has announced a new and fast-track to immigrate to the USA. An all-new gold card at a cost of US$ 5 million is offered to foreigners who wish to migrate to the USA.

President Trump called it a ‘premium version’ of the existing ‘Green Card.’ The new ‘Gold Card’ is a faster way not only to citizenship but also

creation of job in America by wealthy people who purchase the card.

President Trump said the ‘Gold Card’ effectively replaces the old "EB-5" immigrant investor visa programme for foreigners promising to invest in US businesses. He felt that the US will be able to sell a gold card for about $5 million to wealthy people.

President Trump said the

details of the new Gold Card scheme will be out in two weeks. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was in the Oval Office with President Trump when the executive orders were signed on 25 February 2025. President Trump seemed to indicate that his government could sell 10 million “Gold Cards” to reduce the deficit, calling it a fantastic scheme.

Honoring ANZAC Legacy, Supporting Community, and Celebrating Culture

I’M delighted to begin this April edition of the Australian Indian Times by acknowledging a significant date in our calendar—110 years since Australian and New Zealand troops first landed at Gallipoli. ANZAC Day offers a time for us to reflect on the sacrifices made by both soldiers and animals. This year, I’ll be volunteering with the Lions Club of Inala for the March and Service at I.S.A Memorial Park, Inala. If you’d like to join us or need information on a nearby service, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

On this day, many will also wear red and purple poppies and lay a wreath of remembrance.

The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) was established in 1914 in Egypt, consisting of the Australian Imperial Force and the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

The name “ANZAC” has remained a lasting symbol of the bond between our nations and the sacrifices made in both world wars and beyond. It's also important to recognize the significant contributions made by Indian and British soldiers alongside the ANZACs. Around 16,000 Indian troops fought in the Gallipoli campaign, with approximately 1,600 losing their lives. Therefore, I encourage readers to take part or attend their local service.

This month, many have participated in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave to raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research. Blood cancer affects over 150,000 Australians, and tragically, 17 lives are lost daily. Personally, I’ve seen the impact of cancer within my own family and among friends. Some have passed, while others continue to live with the

trauma of their diagnoses. I’d like to take this opportunity to recognize the efforts of Cr. Paul Jackson, Councillor for Division 5 in Logan, who raised over $2,000 by shaving his head and eyebrows in support of this cause and team that includes Cr. St Ledger, Cr. Bannan alongside others, and everyone in the community who has contributed to raising vital funds for cancer research. A special shoutout goes to our very own Prav and Bob Pillay from Cornerstone Law Office, who generously donating $515.50 towards Cr. Jackson shaving his eyebrows. These small acts of kindness make a huge difference in the

lives of those affected by blood cancer by raising funds and awareness at the same time.

On a lighter note, I recently had the pleasure of attending the Greater Springfield Kite Festival 2025, organized by the Greater Springfield Indian Association (GSIA). The event brought together hundreds of attendees from across the state . Now in its third year, the festival has become a cherished Indian and local much loved event in

our community. Thanks to GSIA President Mukesh Dubey, the festival featured thrilling rides, games, multicultural food, and local crafts. The support from officials like Hon. Shaynne Neumann MP and Hon. Senator Paul Scarr has helped make the event a fantastic celebration of cultural diversity and community unity. I’m already looking forward to next year’s festival!

As we remember our

shared history and look toward the future, it’s essential to continue supporting one another. Whether through honoring those who served or participating in community-driven initiatives, we can build a brighter, more connected future together.

This stream ensures Australian businesses can access the global talent pool for positions where local expertise is limited while providing skilled workers with a pathway to contribute to critical projects and industries.

HOW THESE STREAMS BENEFIT EMPLOYERS AND WORKERS

FOR EMPLOYERS:

The Core and Specialist Skills Streams allow businesses to attract workers for both essential and advanced roles. Employers gain a competitive edge by filling hard-to-staff positions quickly, with streamlined processes for accredited sponsors.

FOR WORKERS: These streams open doors to opportunities in Australia’s most indemand sectors. Workers can enjoy stable roles

with competitive salaries and, in many cases, pathways to permanent residency. The inclusion of family members further enhances the visa’s appeal for longterm settlement.

WHY UNDERSTANDING THESE CHANGES MATTERS

The introduction of the Core Skills and Specialist Skills Streams reflects Australia’s evolving workforce needs. These changes require employers and skilled workers to stay updated on eligibility criteria and application processes to maximize their opportunities. By focusing on the Core and

Specialist Skills Streams, the Skills in Demand Visa highlights the government’s intent to strengthen its economy by targeting both immediate and longterm labour market gaps.

YOUR NEXT STEPS

The Skills in Demand Visa is a major opportunity for both employers and skilled workers. If you’re a business looking to fill critical roles or a professional seeking career advancement in Australia, it’s essential to act quickly and prepare your application carefully.

Modi receives Qatar Emir at airport, set bilateral trade target of US$28 M

IN a rare gesture, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, at the airport in Delhi on 17th February 2025. In the two-day state visit that concluded on 18th February, the two leaders announced doubling the bilateral trade to US$ 28 billion, a revised avoidance of double taxation agreement and agreed to expand energy ties.

The airport warm hug between the leaders demonstrated friendship that has been escalated to a strategic partnership, emboldening all-round bilateral and strategic global cooperation.

Sheikh Al Thani marked his second visit to India.

Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Qatar was in February 2024.

The Emir of Qatar was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials and business leaders. After a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan,

the Emir met PM Modi at the Hyderabad House.

India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship besides areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people relations. The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate group there and is lauded for its contribution in the progress and development of Qatar.

Qatari investments in India have crossed $1.5 billion, particularly in telecom, retail, and infrastructure. Recently, Qatari invested $1 billion into Reliance Retail Ventures and $393 million into IndoSpace Logistics Parks in 2023.

Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary in charge of Gulf at the Ministry of External Affairs, the ongoing negotiations between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will be fasttracked as India has a precedence of having signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership

Agreement (CEPA) with the UAE in May 2022.

The focus on energy was expanded during the visit as Qatar is one of India’s largest suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Qatar’s state-owned QatarEnergy extended its long-term LNG supply agreement with India’s Petronet LNG in

February 2024, worth an estimated $78 billion, lasting until 2048. Additionally, India is set to receive more than 60 LNG cargoes from Qatar over the next five years, bolstering Qatar’s role as a key energy partner. From India, companies like Larsen & Toubro, Voltas, and Wipro are eyeing Qatar with for investments

totalling $356 million between 2017 and 2025.

Modi and the Emir laid emphasis on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reflecting their shared diplomatic goals.

The CEOs of several top Qatari entities such as Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Tourism were part of the delegation. The top

leadership level has identified a number of areas in which the Qatar Investment Authority can increase investments in India. This includes infrastructure, ports, shipbuilding, energy including renewable energy, smart cities, food parks, start-ups, and new technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning.

Both countries commemorated the 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023. Two Agreements and Five Memorandums of Understanding have been signed during the State visit of His Highness the Amir. On the issue of Indians in Qatari jails, Secretary Chatterjee said it was unfortunate that there are some 600 Indians jailed there. From time to time, Qatari leadership does grant pardons, and about 85 Indians received such pardon during 2024. A transfer of sentenced persons agreement is still awaiting ratification by the Qatari side.

Uganda to emulate Modi political will for transforming sanitation

Minister of State for Health, Sarah Opendi, attending the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC) in Delhi said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political will that turned into a political and social commitment in India had transformed the country and set it as an example to the world. India had not only demonstrated it was important to build 80 million toilets for the population to use, but

equally necessary to put in place a plan to sustain and scale the ecosystem which included maintenance. Uganda would take home lessons shared by India and other countries from the very unique global convention hosted by India and UN agencies. She said Uganda would pursue with India many frontiers of cooperation in clean water and sanitation. The Minister said Modi's visit on 25th July 2018 to Uganda had brought the nations closer together. She said

that she and everyone knew there were many Indians (officially estimated to be 35,000+) in Uganda, but during the Modi visit she saw crowds of Indians that made it seem like there were more than those counted for! Political will is the only way to induce society at large to follow and sustain plans such as making nations open defecation free, said the Uganda Minister, complimenting Prime Minister Modi for unflinching resolve to change India.

Maldives lauds remarkable Swachh Bharat, says ongoing internal political transition no turmoil

MALDIVES Minister of State for Environment and Energy, Abdul Matheen Mohamed, complimented India's remarkable job and leadership for achieving 39 to 94 percent rural sanitation in just 4 years, adding developing countries learned a lot from India's example, particularly of engaging people in the sanitation movement beyond just a government program. Speaking to PIO TV on the sidelines of the Mahatma Gandhi International

Sanitation Convention marking 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma, the Maldives Minister also pointed out that the archipelago of nearly 1200 islands had achieved Open Defecation Free status in 1990s.In the last 5 years, Maldives increased from 35 to 75 percent public access to modern infrastructure like pumping stations and treatment plants, also clean tap water to homes rose from 25 to 65 percent. Using solar power,

rain water harvesting and technology, cost of drinking water to homes was cut by 30 percent. On the recent elections and the formation of a new government, the Minister emphasised that Maldivians by nature were fiercely independent and historically fought for freedom and rights. He said the peace and environment loving people would ensure a smooth transition under a multi-party democratic process.

CREATING WEALTH THROUGH PROPERTY PORTFOLIOS

BUILDING wealth

through property investment is one of the most reliable and rewarding ways to secure financial freedom. Whether you’re looking for a home to live in or an investment that generates passive income, property offers long-term capital growth, financial security, and opportunitises to build a substantial asset base. With years of experience in residential and investment properties, I have seen firsthand how strategic property investment can lead to financial independence. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of market opportunities and expand your wealth management

portfolio.

WHY INVEST IN PROPERTY?

Unlike other forms of investment, such as stocks or cryptocurrencies, property offers tangible security and multiple revenue streams. Some of the key benefits include:

Capital Growth: Over time, property values generally appreciate, creating significant long-term wealth.

Passive Income: Rental returns provide a consistent cash flow, covering expenses and yielding profits.

Leverage Opportunities: With bank financing, you can control a high-value asset with a relatively small deposit.

Tax Advantages:

Various tax deductions and incentives make property investment more financially viable.

Portfolio Diversification:

Property balances out risk in an investment portfolio, offering stability.

STEPS TO BUILDING

A STRONG PROPERTY PORTFOLIO

1. SET CLEAR INVESTMENT GOALS

Before you start investing, define your financial objectives. Are you looking for passive income, long-term capital growth, or both? Understanding your goals will shape your investment strategy.

2. RESEARCH AND CHOOSE THE RIGHT PROPERTY

Location is crucial. Invest in areas

with strong growth potential, infrastructure developments, and high rental demand. Consider factors such as proximity to schools, public transport, shopping centers, and employment hubs.

3. FINANCE YOUR INVESTMENT WISELY

Leverage bank loans effectively while ensuring a healthy debtto-income ratio. Explore different mortgage options and work with financial advisors to secure the best interest rates.

4. MAXIMISE RENTAL RETURNS

Well-maintained properties attract quality tenants, ensuring steady rental income. Renovations, property management, and tenant screening all contribute to maximizing returns.

5. DIVERSIFY YOUR PORTFOLIO

To mitigate risk, consider investing in different types of properties, such as apartments, townhouses, and commercial real estate. Diversification

ensures stable income across various market conditions.

6. CONTINUOUSLY REVIEW AND ADJUST YOUR STRATEGY

Property investment is not a set-and-forget strategy. Regularly reviewing your portfolio, rental yields, and market conditions will help you make informed decisions and optimize your returns.

WHY NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO INVEST

Market conditions are currently favorable, with low interest rates and increasing rental demand. With inflation impacting traditional savings, property investment serves as a hedge against economic uncertainties. If you’ve been considering growing your portfolio, now is the time to act.

What Sunil Gavaskar taught me … and I don’t even play cricket!

SO, you want to work less, earn more and build awesome wealth. If you can do that you will be more fulfilled, never have to worry about money and spend more time with the ones you love. Most people do not realise but sports can show businesses and business owners how to do that.

A long time ago I played cricket. I was quite good too. But I am old now and that means my knees are no longer reliable as they used to be. When I kneel, all muscles below my waist freeze and I am unable to get up again unless there is an incentive such as a delicious chocolate cake on offer. And my hips only operate when I use them to visit the fridge to see if miraculously a dish of butter chicken has turned up that 5 minutes ago was not there.

This then means if I padded up to play cricket, I would be useless.

But in December 2024 a fantastic organisation called Simple Minds organised a fundraiser for cancer and their guest of honour was Sunil

Gavaskar.

Now he was my childhood hero. But I appreciate anyone beyond Gen X or those not into cricket may have no idea who I am talking about.

This guy is a legend even by today’s standards. Yes, he may be 75 years old but this a small man (he is only 5ft 4in) but has a big personality. Also, his knees and hips seem to still operate so he knows a lot more than I. Obviously.

Anyway, I have always said the sports world has a lot to teach business owners about operating a business.

If you look at traits of successful sports people and successful business owners there is a pattern.

So, during the questionand-answer session, Sir Gavaskar was asked what advice he would give to parents of children showing promise in the field of cricket.

And he responded that parents put enormous pressure on their children and that many are not ready or have the right mindset to make it. Many do not have the three D’s.

And when I heard what the 3 D’s were, I knew that these are relevant to any business, to any business owner and even to those not in business.

SO, WHAT ARE THE THREE D’S? 1. DEDICATION I advise startups

Ramadan: A Month of Faith, Reflection, and Unity

is a

observed by

and

Each day, fasting from dawn to sunset is broken with an iftar meal, often shared with loved ones. The sight of lantern-lit streets, mosque prayers, and the crescent moon symbolizes peace and devotion. Ramadan

fosters a deep sense of unity and compassion, reminding people of the importance of faith and generosity. The month concludes with Eid al-Fitr, a joyous celebration of gratitude and togetherness.

constantly. I will see two things with a startups. I either think the product or service is great. Or it is crap. But the number of times I am proved wrong is incredible because the great product or service business fails and the crap one somehow becomes a success.

How or why? Well, the business success is not about the product or service. It is about how much the business owner is dedicated to their business and its success.

I also see a lot of businesses fail. In most cases it is because the business owner was not dedicated or did not give the business enough focus to make it a success.

Sir Gavaskar asked me a question privately. How many successful sports people do you know who are not dedicated to or love their sport? The answer is, obviously, not a lot.

Love and be dedicated to your business. It is the first D to success.

2. DETERMINATION

Know that life is hard. Business is hard. Being a sports personality is hard.

It is how you respond and react to failures or times when things are tough that count. How determined are you to be successful?

Most businesses I see fail or close down is because there is a lack of dedication. Many will come up with excuses to cover that they are not dedicated. I have seen all the excuses possible.

- I have health issues

- I have family issues

- I am not good at ……

- I don’t have the money

- I don’t have the resources

- I don’t have the staff;

and I have even had some that say

- I needed to get my nails done or I am getting my hair done

Those that are dedicated to their business have a simple mindset. I will do whatever is necessary to make my business successful. And then they go out and do it. If you do not have that mindset, business is not for you.

Be dedicated to your business. It is the second D.

3. DISCIPLINE

I must admit this is not one of my strongpoints. And to be honest it is not a strong point for many business owners. That is because we know what we need to do but then we do not do it.

Sports people are particularly good at discipline. But I think I know why discipline works for sports people but not so much for business owners.

It works because sports people have dedicated coaches and mentors.

Businesspeople rarely do. You see coaches and mentors see things from the outside. And they are constantly pushing and constantly demand improvements. Tiger Woods was considered the best golfer in the world. He stayed there and became even better when his coaches changed his swing, and they were absolutely disciplined during the change. Most sports people employ dedicated nutritionists who are disciplined enough to ensure the right food is eaten every single day.

Discipline is doing the right things consistently. In most cases businesspeople are juggling a lot of things. We

all know the catchphrase ‘’Jack of all trades but master of none’’ Sports people become masters through discipline and listening to their coaches and advisors. And in team sports such as cricket if the whole team has discipline is it likely the team achieves more? Research says it does. Business owners should take heed and do the same. If your business does not have a dedicated business advisor, your chances of being fully disciplined is reduced. The final D – be disciplined in your business.

So, there you have it. Sunil Gavaskar’s 3 tips to become successful not just in sports but in anything you want to achieve in life. But I know what you are thinking. You must have some skills to become a successful cricket player, soccer player an even a darts player. Surely you need skills in business and life too.

And I will tell you what I learnt from one of the most successful soccer coaches call Sir Alex Ferguson. His view was that he could coach anyone to become a professional soccer player. Anyone who wants to become a great player needed to be completely focused, really want to be great and learn from their coach. I guess he was talking about the 3 D’s too.

And the same is true for business. Many of the successful business owners I know do not have any special skills. They just follow the three D’s.

Our Confidence in Prayer

MANY people struggle with prayer, unsure of what to ask for or how to approach God. The key to effective prayer lies in aligning our requests with our divine purpose. When we pray outside of our purpose, we may experience frustration and disappointment. True confidence in prayer comes from knowing and pursuing God's will in our lives.

Jesus demonstrated this perfectly. His prayers were always centered on fulfilling God's purpose, not on seeking personal gain.

One of His most profound prayers, recorded in John 17, reveals His understanding of His mission: to redeem those given to Him by the Father. He did not simply pray for blessings or personal desires but instead focused on

Pastor Suresh Dass Joseph josephdass@optusnet.com.au

DEAR READER, it is our joy to bring to you the word of God. One of the blessings from God is that we prosper and have more than enough, so it is not only us who are blessed but be a blessing to someone else. But if you have lived with a lack mindset, where you have continually struggled financially, then it is easy to form a habit of always thinking, "I will never get out of debt; I will never have enough to provide for my family."

God has ways to increase you that you've never thought of. He's not limited by your job, by your education, or by the family you were raised in. If you take the limits off him, God will bless you beyond your regular income, your salary, and what anyone in your family has seen.

Proverbs 10v22 says,

completing the work set before Him. His prayer reflected His deep commitment to God’s will and His unwavering faith in its fulfillment. When we seek God's will in prayer, we can approach Him with confidence, knowing that our requests align with His greater plan. This is reinforced where God assures us that if we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears and grants our requests.

Prayer is not about convincing God to do what we want but rather about positioning ourselves to receive what He has already planned for us.

PRAYER AS AN EXERCISE OF AUTHORITY

Prayer is more than just communication with God—it is a means of exercising our spiritual authority. God has given humanity dominion over the earth, and through prayer, we activate His power in our lives and communities. When we stop praying, we inadvertently hinder God’s purposes, allowing negative influences to take hold.

Jesus emphasised the

necessity of persistent prayer, teaching His disciples to always pray and not give up. He entrusted them with spiritual authority, symbolised by the keys of the kingdom, empowering them to bind and loose according to God’s will. This illustrates that prayer is not passive—it is an active engagement in bringing God’s plans to fruition.

By neglecting prayer, we forfeit our role in God's work. Though His ultimate plans will

always come to pass, He seeks willing participants to collaborate with Him in shaping the world. When we pray, we invite God’s presence into our lives and circumstances, allowing Him to work through us for His glory.

ALIGNING OUR PRAYERS WITH GOD’S WILL

To develop confidence in prayer, we must cultivate a deeper understanding of God's will. This requires time in His presence, studying His word, and seeking

MORE MONEY

guidance through the Holy Spirit. When we align our hearts with God’s purposes, our prayers become powerful and effective.

We must also recognise that prayer is not about changing God’s mind but about transforming our own. As we submit to His will, our desires shift to reflect His priorities. We become instruments of His love, wisdom, and justice in the world.

PRAYER AND THE CALL TO ACTION Prayer is both a

spiritual discipline and a call to action. Jesus not only prayed for God’s will to be done but also actively worked to accomplish it. Likewise, our prayers should be accompanied by faithful action. If we pray for healing, we should also offer support to the sick. If we pray for justice, we should stand against injustice. Faith without works is incomplete, and prayer without action lacks its full potential.

As leaders in faith and purpose, we must embrace prayer as a tool for transformation. Whether we are interceding for our families, communities, or global issues, we must remain steadfast in seeking God's will. Through prayer, we gain clarity, strength, and direction, empowering us to fulfill our divine calling.

Let us commit to a life of purposeful prayer, confident that God hears us when we align our hearts with His. By doing so, we not only strengthen our relationship with Him but also become active participants in His divine plan for the world.

"The blessing of the Lord makes one rich."

One of the ways God will increase you is when you learn to be generous with what has been given to you.

In the bible (Matthew 25v14-30), we read about a business owner traveling overseas and giving his employee one thousand dollars. This was not a wage but a gift from the owner. After a long time, the owner returned from the trip. The employee came and brought a thousand dollars more, saying, "Lord, you delivered to me one thousand dollars; look, I have gained one thousand more."

The owner was very pleased with him and said, "Well done! You have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things." So, he was rewarded abundantly. In Jesus' parable, the owner represents God, and the employee represents us.

We can learn three things from the business owner and the employee.

1. If God can get it through you, He will give it to you. When the owner gave the money as a gift, he expected the employee to release it, invest it, or be generous. Likewise, God has gifted you many talents, gifts, and finances. You will lose it when you hoard

it, but when you give some of it away and be generous with it, you will get it back. As it says in the book of Luke, "Give and it shall be given back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall be put into your bosom. The measure you use shall be returned to you." The employee invested the money by releasing it. He got more back.

2. God is after your money. He does not want to take it from you, so you become poor, but on the contrary God wants to see you being blessed through your giving or generosity. In Malachi

3v10, God says, "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it." Everything in you will say, “I am going to be generous with my money when I overcome my problems and fix my finances.” But when you do your part by being generous with your money, even while you have your own struggles, then this is what is going to open the windows of heaven.

3. God has a sound financial plan for your life. If you don't know it, you may not have discovered it yet. In the scriptures, we read that God has a good plan for your life, including your finances. The business owner gave his employee a thousand dollars. This was a surprise and came unexpectedly to him.

In the same way, God has many surprises for you. They will come to you when you are least expecting it. You didn't see it coming. You didn't dream that you could be so blessed. You don't know what God has in store for you. You don't know the promotions,

the opportunities, the favour that he's already ordained to come across your path. Psalm 35 says: "God takes pleasure in prospering you." It brings a smile to God's face to make things happen that amaze you.

The business owner was pleased to see his worker get so blessed. In the same way, it gives God pleasure to see you blessed, and you may not know how this can happen, but the scripture says, "God will supply all of our needs according to his riches." It doesn't say, "According to your job, according to your talent, if the boss likes you, if the economy's up, if you have the right friends." It's not according to what you have. It's according to what He has, and the good news is that God owns it all. He makes streets out of gold and can create them if he doesn't have what you need. He speaks, and worlds come into existence.

And all this is possible from a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. This relationship is possible when we confess our wrongs and sins, repent of them, and put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. We become children of God. We become partakers of the blessings God has for us.

God bless you

1st March – Zero Discrimination Day

The theme for this year is ‘We Stand Together’

THE 1st March 2025 is the eleveth year that Zero Discrimination Day has been acknowledged. This day was first celebrated by UNAIDS to recognise and raise awareness for people living with HIV/AIDS. It has now evolved with the United Nations recognising it as a day to recognise and celebrate everyone’s rights regardless of our differences.

Every person has the right to live a full and productive life, free from stigma and

discrimination and with dignity. This includes any person living with a blood borne virus such HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, or a person infected with a sexually transmissible infection.

Discrimination and stigma related to these health conditions are often due to fear, lack of knowledge and misunderstandings or misconceptions of how and why these conditions are transmitted.

In Queensland the highly trained team of the

Love Health Program at the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) is proud to provide information, education and support for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds regarding these health conditions.

We encourage all people to ‘know their status’ and to get tested for these conditions to protect their health and wellbeing. We are pleased to be able to offer rapid finger prick testing to check for

exposure to hepatitis C and for potential hepatitis B infection. This is performed confidentially, and the results are available within 30 minutes.

The butterfly is the symbol of Zero Discrimination Day, this symbolises positive transformation. Through increased knowledge and greater understanding, we can live more productive and healthy lives and stop discrimination.

For more information about our services

and information about HIV, Hepatitis B and hepatitis C and sexually transmissible infections please visit our webpage www.eccq.com.au/bbv or contact us at: 3844 9166 or email health@ eccq.com.au.

HOLI is a major Hindu festival, which is celebrated in India in the months of Phalgun and Chaitra of the traditional lunisolar calendar. It is also known as the festival of colours and has become popular overseas where expatriate Indians and Hindus from other countries along with the local population celebrate it on a grand scale.

The festival comprises two elements. The first is Holika Dahan or lighting of a bonfire in the night of Purnima, the full moon night in the month of Phalgun. Purnima is the last day of a month and Phalgun is the last month of a year. Lighting of the bonfire also denotes an expression of goodbye to the year.

The second part relates to applying coloured powder and sprinkling/spraying coloured water on the celebrants on the following day, the first day of the new month of Chaitra. The festivities include singing, dancing and exchanging food and drinks. It signifies a welcome to the New Year.

Origin - Holi finds its origin in ancient Pauranic tales and folklores. The widely acknowledged legend relates to Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakashipu, a goldenbodied demon.

The tale refers to incidents that occurred in the prehistoric age. Lord Vishnu, the supreme God, had destroyed Hiranyaksh, a golden-eyed demon king, for his transgression against the Earth. Hiranyaksh’s younger brother Hiranyakashipu became the king of demons after his death and vowed to avenge Vishnu. He performed severe penance and after obtaining boons from Brahma declared himself god. He despised Vishnu and forbade Vishnu-worship in his domain.

He had a son named Prahlad who was of virtuous disposition and a devotee of Vishnu. The demon king disliked his son’s behaviour and wished to influence his preferences. However, Prahlad resisted despite various attempts to retrain him to follow his father’s instructions.

Hiranyakashipu’s anger increased with failures of his efforts to reform his son and finally he decided to kill him. Prahlad was left surrounded by venomous snakes but they did not bite him. He was left in a jungle filled with wild animals but remained unharmed.

Prahlad was thrown into the sea to drown but he returned alive. He was given Kalkoot poison to drink, but survived. Prahlad remained deeply devoted to Vishnu.

Hiranyakashipu had a sister named Holika. She had received a boon to remain immune to fire. She was instructed to take Prahlad with her into a burning fire. Holika followed her brother’s directive, but the fire did not burn Prahlad and instead Holika burnt to ashes.

This event is known as Holika Dahan. Holika and Hiranyakashipu symbolise evils and Prahlad signifies virtues. Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu in the form of half human and half lion, later killed Hiranyakashipu.

Another tale for origin of Holi according to Shaivism and

Holi and Ram Navami

Shaktism sects relates to Lord Shiv. After Shiv’s spouse Sati had self-immolated, he started a prolonged meditation. In the meantime, Sati was reborn as a daughter of Himvan and Mainavati, named Parvati. She performed extreme penance to please Shiv to accept her as his wife.

Concurrently, a demon named Tarakasur became invincible and persecuted deities. He had received from Brahma a boon, which stipulated that only Shiv’s son could kill him. Deities became desperate for Shiv to beget a son.

As Shiv was in deep meditation at this time, he needed to be distracted from penance. Deities requested Kamdev, the god of love, to distract Shiv. Kamdev visited Shiv’s place of meditation and created spring season, with enchanting flowers, scents and energies in the environment. These changes agitated Shiv’s mind and interrupted his meditation. He opened his eyes and realised that Kamdev was responsible for the disturbance. He was angered and focussed his third eye at Kamdev, burning him to ashes instantaneously.

Kamdev’s wife Rati became inconsolable upon her husband’s death and started praying to Shiv to revive her husband. Her prayer softened Shiv’s anger and he returned Kamdev to life in an invisible form. Kamdev’s revival is celebrated as Holi with colours and merrymaking.

In the Braj region around Vrindavan, the festival is celebrated until Rang Panchami, the fifth day after Holi. It commemorates the divine love of Radha and Krishna. According to a tale in Garg Samhita, in his youth, Krishna was unsure whether the fairskinned Radha would like him, as he had a dark complexion. His mother Yashoda became tired of his anguish and asked him to approach Radha, requesting her to colour his face in whichever shade she preferred. Radha consented and subsequently Radha and Krishna became a couple. Since then the playful colouring of Radha and Krishna's faces has been celebrated as Holi.

Festivity – The preparation for Holi starts on the Vasant Panchami day, the fifth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Magh. On this day, a token of combustible material such as dry wood and dry cattle-dung cakes are placed on the site of Holika Dahan. From this day onward, further combustibles are added until the bonfire.

On the day of Holika Dahan, a green stick of castor-oil plant is vertically placed in the middle of the combustible materials. Participants bring more combustibles, place them on the pile and gather around it. At an auspicious time, usually after sunset, a priest chants mantras, offers to the pile specified sanctified items, removes the green stick and lights the fire.

People perform circumambulation of the fire, offer prayers, sing songs and seek blessings from the fire god. This time of year coincides with ripening of winter crops,

such as wheat, chickpeas, barley, etc. Soon after Holi, the harvest of winter crops starts. Farmers offer newly ripe grains from the fields into the fire as a thanksgiving to nature and god. After the combustion is complete, participants return home.

The following morning, people gather at the site of Holika Dahan and apply the ashes on their own faces and on the others. In some areas, people pour water mixed with ashes and dirt on each other. In many regions, in the morning people drench and spray coloured water of different hues on the participants. In the afternoon, people wash themselves, wear new or clean clothes and start playing with dry colour powder. The young people apply dry colour powder initially on the feet of elders and then on their face.

Community members visit local families in groups and sing holi songs known as Phagua. The host families receive visitors and offer them meals, delicacies and flavoured drinks to enjoy. Consuming Bhang, a preparation of ground cannabis leaves in a solid paste or as a liquid mixture, is common among some people during this period.

In the Braj region, women playfully hit men during the holi celebration. It is called Lathmar holi.

The above-mentioned practice is largely observed in Indian villages, Ashrams and rural settlements. In cities, towns and overseas locations the process has been adapted to the prevailing local condition.

Holi is believed to usher Vasant Ritu, the spring season in India. However, in practice Vasant Panchami, when Kamdev attempted to distract Shiv’s attention, is the beginning of spring. It continues until Vaishakhi, 14th April, the Indian solar New Year. During this period Shivaratri, Holi, Ram Navami and Chhath are popular Hindu festivals.

Vasant is a highly eulogized season in India. In the Gita, Lord Krishna declared himself to be a manifestation of the flower-bearing spring season. Ancient poets and scholars have glorified this season in their works. They have categorised six distinct seasons that include vasant, spring; grishma, summer; varsha, monsoon; sharad, autumn; hemant, prewinter and shishir, winter. This classification is commonly used in literal works, The Indian Meteorological Department

waxing moon, in the month of Chaitra, during the noon, Kaushalya gave birth to a baby boy who was named Ram. Next Kaikeyi had a son named Bharat. Finally Sumitra was blessed with twins, Lakshman and Shatrughna. Thus with the birth of four sons, Dasharath’s desire for progeny was fulfilled.

Ayodhya became festive with the birth of princes. The whole kingdom celebrated the arrival of Ram and his brothers. Deities became jubilant at the thought of Ravan’s impending doom, once Dasharath’s eldest son grew to adulthood.

designates four official seasons: winter, summer, monsoon and autumn.

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birthday of Shree Ram, who is worshipped as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It falls on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksh, bright fortnight, in the month of Chaitra (March – April), the first month of the Hindu calendar. Ram symbolises the epitome of human ideals and is called Maryada Purushottam, the best among honourable persons. The Ramayan, composed by Maharshi Valmiki describes the life journey of Ram.

Genesis – Ram was the eldest son of King Dasharath of Ikshvaku dynasty. Dasharath was the king of Koshal kingdom with its capital in Ayodhya on the banks of River Sarayu. He had three principal queens named Kaushalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. For a long time, they had not produced a son to continue his lineage.

Seeking divine help, the king commissioned sage Rishyashring to perform the Putrakameshti Yagya to help obtain a son. The sage appeased the king and commenced the ritual. A celestial person appeared from the sacrificial fire. He offered the king a bowl containing rice pudding and asked him to distribute it among his queens. The king followed his instructions. In due course, each of his three queens became pregnant.

Simultaneously, deities who had gathered at the sacrificial arena to accept their share approached Brahma. They petitioned him to end the tyranny of the Rakshas king Ravan, who had tormented the entire world. He was invincible due to the boons received from Brahma. All creatures of god, including deities could not destroy him, with the exception of humans and monkeys. Ravan had considered them incapable of harming him. At that moment, Brahma along with deities sighted Vishnu. They approached him, requesting he eliminate their sufferings by killing Ravan and destroying the demonic forces on the earth. Having heard their plea, Vishnu promised to be born as Dasharath’s son in a human form and kill Ravan. He instructed deities to be born as monkeys and bears on the earth so they could participate in destruction of demons. Deities retired to their abode and subsequently took birth as monkeys and bears.

On the ninth day of the

Ram was a darling of all due to his extraordinary characteristics. He acquired all princely knowledge in a short period. He accompanied sage Vishvamitra and protected his rituals. He redeemed Ahilya the wife of sage Gautam. He travelled to Mithila and wed Sita the Mithila princess after fulfilling the condition of her Svayamvar.

During the preparation for Ram’s coronation, his stepmother Kaikeyi demanded from the king that her son Bharat be crowned instead, and Ram be exiled for fourteen years. Ram accepted her wish to uphold the king’s words given to Kaikeyi previously and voluntarily went in exile. His wife Sita and brother Lakshman accompanied him. In the forest, he met many sages and destroyed demons that harassed them. During their stay in the Dandakarnya forest, Ravan abducted Sita and held her captive in his capital Lanka. Ram with the help of monkeys and bears built a bridge over the sea. He along with his monkey army arrived at Lanka and fought a war to free Sita from captivity. In the ensuing war, Ravan and his associates were killed and his virtuous brother Vibhishan was installed to the throne of Lanka. Ram returned to Ayodhya with Sita and Lakshman after completion of his exile period. He was crowned as the King of Ayodhya. His rule is known as Ram Rajya, a thriving time for the populace. He had fulfilled the wishes of deities who declared him an incarnation of Vishnu.

Rituals - During Ram Navami, Hindus visit temples dedicated to Lord Ram. Sites associated with the Ramayan attract a large number of devotees on this day. Recitals of the Ramayan verses and stories, performing episodes of Ramlila and singing of devotional songs dedicated to Ram are very popular activities on this day. In Bihar, people replace the Hanuman flag with a new one in their homes and temples. Charitable events and community meals are also organized.

Ram’s importance has further enhanced since inauguration of Ram Janmabhumi Temple in Ayodhya in 2024. Physical objects linked to Ram’s life have been found in recent years confirming assertions made in the ancient texts. Ram Navami is an occasion to remind and inspire us to behave gently and contribute to maintaining justice and social welfare of all as practiced during the Ram Rajya.

Healthy Living in Fiji: A Call to Better Eating and Exercise

FIJI is a delightful friendly country so it is always a pleasure to return there with my wife for a few weeks to do some voluntary work and reconnect with old friends.

When you read this article, we will be back in Fiji where the number one killer of men is prostate cancer. As well, diabetes and obesity are huge problems.

These health concerns are not surprising.

On my last trip to Fiji in September 2024 I called in to see my Fijian friend John when he and his family of adult children having breakfast. To my shock they were only eating a very unhealthy carbohydrate meal of noodles and white bread. No wonder both John

and his wife, Mary were overweight and now, sadly she has diabetes.

Then, when eating breakfast with some students in their College was equally of concern as they were mainly eating deep fried or white bread. Then calling in to see Indian friends we were invited to have dinner with them which we ate at their regular time of 10.30pm! At 11.30pm they went to bed on a full stomach of rice dhal and curry. This is not a good time to eat as it is not healthy to go to sleep on a full stomach. We know too that Indians love salt, oil and sugar in their meals.

Our final meal was with a Korean/ Filippino family where we had a delightful

6pm healthy dinner low in salt and oil, of salad, soup, chicken and noodles, followed by fresh fruit.

Yet not everyone is unhealthy, like Indo Fijian Vinesh, aged 45. Whenever we reconnect at his Nadi home, we always have an early morning run of up to 10km. It is always a hot, humid challenge running but, for our health’s sake we decide we must do it.

As I am 30 years older than Vinesh then it is a struggle to keep up with him as we run but I do my best.

So, can I challenge you, for the sake of your health Eat healthily. Exercise often.

You and others will all benefit.

The Intuitional Science of the Vedas – 3

FROM FEB MONTH

CONTD.

But he who is fully satiated, i.e., he whose longings and desires have consumed themselves, obliviates even the possibility of any such thought-wave later because of the absence of any Saḿskára. Such all-satiated persons are indeed self-purified. How can final satiety possibly come unless and until that Whole – that Supreme Spirit – is achieved? Hence he who has attained full satiety has indeed reduced all his Saḿskáras to nothingness right here in this world and so he has gone beyond the cycle of life and death.

From the inanimate to the animate goes the process of evolution. Take a piece of stone for instance. It has neither the power of action nor the sensation of mind. What is the reason? It is because hitherto there has been no manifestation of mind in the stone at all. Thought-wave or sensation can take place or an action can take a form only if there is a mind. Take, for instance, trees and plants which are more animate than stones. There are activities in them. They grow, draw the vital juice from the earth, maintain their species by creating seeds in their own bodies and enjoy and suffer pleasure and pain, when taken care of or smitten. We see in them the manifestation of consciousness or animation, for the mind has awakened in them. Thus progressing on the path of psychogenesis or mental development we see in humans the greatest manifestation. Just as during the Cosmic thought-process the evolution takes place from the subtle to the crude, similarly the unit retroverts step by step from the crude to the subtle, towards the same Absolute Consciousness from where it had come. It is just like the waves of the sea rippling back from the shore to the ocean from where they had originally come. Now, just how much should a person strive on his return journey? He has got to be alert, so that he may easily end the journey in his characteristic Self. Then alone shall we call him self-purified. Then alone shall he become saturated with Brahma, within and without. To become self-purified one has got to make some effort –this effort is what is known as Sádhaná. The greatest Sádhaná is that which comprises three aspects viz., devotion, action and cognition. Medium Sádhaná is that which comprises two aspects i.e., devotion and action, and the inferior Sádhaná is that which consists of only tall talk (cognition or knowledge cannot exist singly without action and devotion –whatever may exist will be merely the debris of knowledge). The ability of a Sádhaka cannot be based on his common or worldly knowledge alone. It can only stand on the firm base of his knowledge, devotion and action (Jiṋána, Bhakti and Karma). By firmness I mean unflinching intensity of zeal and earnestness. By just saying that Rasagollá is sweet, one cannot get the taste of a Rasagollá (a spongy and juicy sweetmeat). One has got to make some efforts to obtain it and eat it.

Náyamátmá pravacanena labhyo na medhayá na vahuná shrutena Yamevaeśa vrńute tena labhya stasyaeśa átmávivrńute tanúḿ syám.

By tall talks alone one cannot achieve Brahma. An almanac forecasts that there will be so

much rain this year. But mere knowledge of such a forecast will not save the crops of a farmer. No amount of squeezing the almanac will produce even a drop of water. One has got to do sádhaná to habituate one’s mind to Brhamaward projection in order to attain Him.

Anubhútiḿ viná múdho vrthá Brahmańimodate

Prativimbitashákhágraphalasvá danomodavat.

–Maetreyii Shruti

If a person, without Anubhúti or intuitional susceptibility, studies scriptures a million times or lectures on Brahma, his Brahma will ever remain a bookish Brahma, not the Brahma of one’s conception or realization. Just as one seeing in water the reflection of fruit dangling overhead from the branch of a tree cannot taste the fruit, similarly an erudite scholar, versed in the six philosophies, will remain far away from Brahma if one refrains from Brahma-Sádhaná. No matter how vastly learned you may become in worldly knowledge, without Sádhaná you can know nothing about Brahma, for along with your knowledge of these lores, a vanity of knowledge will also grow in you. With this result, you will go on enhancing the volume of your burden unnecessarily by habitually giving importance to your small ego. This burden becomes the cause of your sufferings and enjoyments, not of your salvation.

Ácárya Shaḿkar said: Vák vaekharii shobdajharii shástravyákhánakaoshalam Vaeduśyaḿ vidúsaḿ tadvat bhuktaye na tu muktaye

You will come across many such people who do not practice spiritual meditation themselves but will run after great spiritual men in order to hear their sermons. These people are totally wrong. Only running after great men will be of no avail. A person has got to establish himself in the path of realization of Brahma by doing sádhaná himself. God does not bestow His mercy upon anybody after seeing how great a speaker he is or how many books he has read. Only one who has devotion can exact His mercy. The great devotee, Maharśi Nárada said. Mahadkrpáyaeva bhagavadkrpáleshádvá.

That is, Brahma can be realized by achieving even a tiny bit of God’s grace or that of a great person. Take a very intelligent boy for instance. If his teacher does not teach him how to read and write, he will not be able to become a great scholar in spite of having the potential for becoming one. Similarly, all persons have the ability or potentiality of achieving spiritual development or of establishing themselves in the Brahmic stance, but for want of a worthy guide it cannot take practical shape. That is why a spiritual Preceptor or Sadguru is necessary – his grace is indispensable. His grace is but God’s grace, for God is the ocean of grace.

Náyamátmá balahiinena labhyo na ca pramádáttapaso vápyoliuṋgát Etaerupáyaeryatate yastu vidváḿ stasyaeśa átmá vishate Brahmadháma.

Those who are weak, i.e., who have neither spiritual nor mental force, do not achieve intuitional knowledge. The timid and cowardly remain remote from Brahmabháva or cosmic ideation. You may have

seen that bribe-takers or liars will talk ill of Ánanda Márga out of fear of following the principles of Yama and Niyama.

Another great trait of a Sádhaka is his self-confidence. “ I must have fulfillment” – “I must attain final beatitude” – this strong conviction is the stepping stone to success. Phaliśyattiiti vishvása siddherprathamolakśańam Dvitiiyaḿ shraddhayá yuktaḿ tritiiyaḿ gurupujanam Caturtho samatábhávo paiṋcamendriya nigrahah Śaśthaiṋca pramitáháro saptamaḿ naevávidyate. –Shiva Saḿhita

He who has taken the determination to attain final beatitude cannot be indifferent to Sádhaná. Indifference to mundane duties or flying above the world with a resolute detachment is but a mental disease. Those who want to give themselves up to divine CONTD. ON PG 28 CONTD. FROM PG 26

contemplation in the cave of the Himalayas, leaving their homes, are misguided. The word, Sannyása, means to dedicate oneself for the attainment of God. When Brahma is everything, whatever you are, you must behave properly with everything around you. Hence to be callous about family and society is completely contrary to Brahma Sádhaná (Divine Contemplation). One cannot know Brahma through showy, superficial knowledge. You can only attain Brahma, when your knowledge has become strong and powerful through austere devotion to Truth. Only the soul of the one whose knowledge is identified with austerity, enters the abode of Brahma. Ultimately the united qualities of sedateness, mental and spiritual force, firmness, devotion to Truth, knowledge, the proper use of mundane things etc. will certainly enable a Sádhaka to attain unity with Brahma.

Samprápyaenamrśayo jiṋánarptáh krtátmano viitargáh prashántáh Te sarvagaḿ sarvatah prápya dhiirá Yuktátmanah sarvamevávishanti. The word “Rśi”, means a Sádhaka who has cultivated Brahma within himself. So long as a Sádhaka does not attain Brahma, there exists in him a feeling of incompleteness. Suppose you want a thousand rupees. If you are given a thousand rupees, will you be contented? No, you will then ask for more. Such is the characteristic of human mind. Man has a limitless thirst. He keeps on harping ceaselessly, “I am hungry.” The hunger for a thousand will change into hunger for a lakh, and hunger for a lakh will make room for hunger for a crore. Thus the amount of hunger goes on increasing until a limitless amount of money is attained. This limitlessness is inherent in Brahma, and so your hunger can be satiated in Brahma alone. Hence when a “Rśi” attains complete self-control (krtátman), he goes beyond the sphere of attachment and detachment, and attains full realization of his characteristic Self. He becomes imperturbably tranquil, i.e. he reaches the stage which lies beyond the momentum of rebirth or regeneration. Attachment and repulsion exist so long as the proclivities of fascination and contempt exist. For instance, a puritanical sádhaka will consider wine as an object of disdain and

will regard touching it as an act of impiety. A wine addict, however, regarding it as an object of greed, will run after it with total disregard for all social conventions and norms. But he who has become really desireless as the result of self-realization, will keep himself above these two. He will take wine as medicine under medical advice, otherwise he will carefully keep it away from the sight of people. He will have neither attachment nor aversion for the wine.

If you go to Kanyákuḿarii (Cape Comorin), you will see on one side the restless surging waves of the Bay of Bengal and on the other the tranquil Arabian Sea. The Bay of Bengal is not very deep and so there are as much waves as roars, and the Arabian Sea, which is very deep, remains calm and meditative. Similarly, he who is satiated of knowledge and desireless, remains calm and tranquil. Why on earth should he indulge in selfpublicity? To whom will he publicize himself? Such acts are the antics of common, avaricious people with beggar-like mentality. Man who has attained Brahma will see His Glory in everything and feel that nothing is separate from Him. Where is the fear of any Saḿskára or reactive momentum for the one who has surrendered himself to Brahma?

Abhaypade práń sanpechi

Árki shaman bhay rekhechi.

The Sádhaka who has known Brahma loses himself – merges himself in Him. He does not have to undergo the cycle of births and deaths any more.

Gatáh kaláh paiṋcadasha pratiśthá

Deváshca sarve pratidevatásu Karmáńi vijiṋánamayashca átmá Pare’vyaye sarva ekiibhavanti.

Human existence is concerned with sixteen factors, (Kalás), from which there is no means of escape, so long as human desires are efferent or extrovertive – so long as he is busy, seeking the objects of happiness from this material world. There are ten organs, (five sensory organs, e.g., eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin, and five motor organs, i.e., speech, hands, feet, anus and generative organ), five práńáh or internal vital airs, viz., Práńa, Apána, Samána, Udána and Vyána (Nága, Kúrma, Krkara, Devadatta and Dhanaiṋjaya – these five external Váyus or airs do not belong to the sixteen Kalás for these are the resultants of the internal airs themselves), and Ahaḿtattva (ego) – sixteen in all. The sum total of fifteen Kalás of a theopathic Sádhaka get merged in their original causes. All these gods(2) or organs finally lose themselves in their respective counter-gods, i.e., controlling powers.

Behind each manifestation of the indescribable games of sound, touch, form, taste and smell that are going on in this vast universe, there is a significant expression of some particular forces. These forces we call gods. Playing and frolicking on the boy of the Macrocosm, each of these forces is activating and controlling the human body as a whole and individually with each and every action and sentiment of the human limbs and parts. The forces that activate the ten organs, through which one acts, are called of the senses. After death each of the organs of an emancipated Sádhaka gets merged into its own god. His deeds, his soul become ensconced in the Viijnánamaya

and Hirańyamaya kośas, the fifteen kalás and the counter-gods of the gods (what we call gods in reference to unit bodies are known as counter-gods in their pervasive sense in reference to the Macrocosmic Body) – all merge in the Supreme Being after the demise of the Sádhaka. In other words, the emancipated Sádhaka attains a place beyond the pale of life and death. He becomes one with the imperishable Brahma in His final beatitude.

The union of a Sádhaka with Brahma has been elucidated through an excellent example. Just as a river giving up its name and identity, completely merges in the sea and thereafter cannot maintain its own existence except that of the sea, similarly a Sádhaka, after merging himself in Brahma, can no more think of himself except Brahma.

Yathá nadyah syandamánáh samudrestaḿ gacchati námarúpe viháya Tathá vidvánnámarupádvimuktah parátparaḿ puruśamupaeti divyam.

Seeing the Ganges we can identify the water of the Ganges. Similarly we can recognize the water of the Yamuná or the water of the Sarasvatii but once they merge in the sea, we cannot separate them nor can we distinguish the one from the other. Nevertheless, they are all there. They all have lost their respective names in the identity of the sea. Similarly when a knower of Truth merges in the Supreme Being, his petty sense of existence loses itself, and, attaining unity with the Supreme Entity, he becomes Supreme Himself. Spiritual practice is meant for the expansion of the soul, not for the annihilation of it and so Samádhi does not mean suicide but self-oblivion.

Sa yo ha vae tat paramaḿ Brahma veda Brahmaeva bhavati; Násya brahmavit kule bhavati; Tarati shokaḿ tarati pápnánáḿ Guhágranthibhyo vimkto’mrto bhavati.

He who has known Supreme Brahma, becomes Brahma Himself, for the unit takes on the very form of its object. He who has Brahma as his object, goes to the world of Brahma after death, i.e., becomes Brahma Himself. In the family of such a Brahma-knowing one, is never born a non-Brahma-knowing person. The word, Kula, is derived from the root Ku + lá + dá. “Ku” means world and “la” means to hold. That which the world holds is called Kula. (Its third meaning being the unit force or Jiiva-shakti.(3) The lowest part of the vertebral column or spine is also called Kulakuńdalinii). The word holds the human family and that is why the family or lineage is called Kula. Here the word, Kula, is used in the sense of Brahma-sútra (Divine link), which is denotative of hereditary preceptor-disciple relationship and by which the creation is held – or which is held by the creation. It is claimed that the intuitional knowledge is thus preserved hereditarily. The knower of Brahma goes beyond the sphere of all pains and inequities. When through Sádhaná or spiritual practice the Kulakuńdaliniiforce pierces through the heart, the Sádhaka gets emancipated and attains deathlessness and thereafter goes to the region beyond the reach of death for all eternity.

Mars will boost your confidence, leading to career success and achievements. However, Saturn's influence requires you to show respect for your seniors' opinions, even if you disagree with them. If you're in business, expansion is favored, but be cautious of new developments that may cause confusion. Take time to think and make informed decisions. Financial issues may test your patience, but it's essential to act wisely and make smart choices. Initially, Venus advises caution and patience, but later in the month, it brings a fresh wave of love energy. This can be a great time to rekindle romance or connect with someone special. However, be aware that misinterpretations with your partner may arise, especially in the beginning of the week. But if you're mindful, you can turn it into a positive experience by the month's end. In fact, the latter part of the month is splendid for relationships and romance. Consider exploring alternative health treatments, as they can bring good results. This month begins with excellent options and solutions elevating your work, leading to midweek decisive actions and an excellent money flow, facilitated by Venus and Mercury. However, avoid speculative investments to minimize risks. Mid-month, measured actions align with career plans, enabling recovery of lost ground and preparation for new challenges. Venus' creative spirit aids business growth, bringing surprising gains, but beware of speculative investments. The planets bring fresh love and joy, but hidden resentments may surface. Educational burdens are challenging, with hard work not yielding desired results. Health prospects are encouraging, but stay focused and adapt to changes. Toward month's end, Mercury suggests a prime time for action, with successful business meetings, contract finalizations, and major deals paving the way for professional growth. Expect gradual improvement in money flow after midweek, with unexpected income sources emerging. However, Mars indicates a power struggle at the workplace, temporarily setting you back. Jupiter's influence resolves problems, ensuring efforts aren't ruined. New opportunities emerge, especially for those in business, but finances require careful management. Venus brings emotional wealth and romance, but complex conditions hinder true enjoyment. Academic efforts are supported, but beware of taking on too many projects. Health status remains satisfactory. Throughout, prioritize self-care, maintain a healthy work-life balance, stay focused, and navigate challenges effectively to make the most of opportunities.
