British International School, Phuket (BISP), is an English medium, co-educational, day and boarding school that was established in 1996 in the heart of Phuket, Thailand. Its purpose-built 44 acre campus includes high quality boarding accommodation and provides world-class facilities that enable students to excel in sports and the expressive arts, as well as in their studies.
The student population consists of over 1000 day and boarding students with over 60 different nationalities represented. The majority of the student body (more than 60%) are foreign nationals.
BISP provides a Pre-school, Primary and Secondary school education of the highest international standard. External examinations are offered in the IB Diploma, IGCSE, and Cambridge ESOL. In addition, an externally assessed programme for spoken English is provided through the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), and the music department offers ‘Rock School’ examinations and qualifications.
Students are at the very heart of the Primary curriculum at BISP as the school aims to nurture creative, resilient and happy young learners whose curiosity and confidence enables them to take risks, to explore and expand their thinking and to develop their independence as they start to recognise their place in the world around them and build strong foundations in learning.
BISP is guided by the rigorous expectations of the National Curriculum of England which is adapted and enriched to ensure that learning opportunities meet the diverse needs of all the students in the school’s international context and celebratory of the school’s
location in Phuket, Thailand. The Primary Curriculum includes three core areas of learning; English, Mathematics and Science, and seven foundation subjects; Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education. Most teaching is facilitated by Primary Class Teachers however BISP works in collaboration with subject specialists from the Secondary School who teach music, art, languages and physical education who facilitate exceptional specialist teaching for the children across the wider curriculum.
Learning is supported through a child-centred and personalised pedagogy. BISP’s priority is to get to know every child as a unique individual and build strong, positive and productive relationships with them. BISP believes that every individual student has immense potential to be successful in life and that when a child’s innate curiosity is intentionally and carefully nurtured, they flourish and develop a lifelong love of learning which continues to build progressively as they move through every phase of their learning journey with the school.
A comprehensive Key Stage Three (KS3) programme leads on to the IGCSE, when students typically select between seven and 10 subjects from the 23 subject options on offer.
In the final two years of school, students undertake either the IB Diploma or Certificate Programmes, or the BTEC in Sport. The school has a wide choice of IB courses, these include such subjects as: Art and Design, Business and Management, Design Technology, Economics, Environmental Systems and Societies, Music, Psychology and Theatre Arts.
In consultation with Universities and employers around the world, we find that the IB program best prepares students for post school enterprises – both higher studies and the world of work. The IB is founded on active learning, fuelled by creativity and curiosity. Our students graduate with the capacity and character to take action, to solve the challenges of an ever changing world.
The school is jointly accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is also a member of the International School’s Association of Thailand (ISAT) and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA).
BISP’s academic curriculum is delivered in unison with a comprehensive wellbeing programme, an extensive extracurricular offering and an outstanding provision in high performance sports. These include: 6 Science Labs, 2 IT Labs, Primary Cooking Room
The two IT labs in Secondary are equipped for robotics, green screen, programming, and 3D printing. For younger students, the school provides devices as required for learning. All buildings have WiFi; teaching spaces have projectors or screens and where appropriate, interactive boards.

Easy access to these facilities encourages participation and enjoyment of sports. Facilities include: Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Fitness Centre, 3 full-size Football Pitches, Tennis Centre, Golf course and 2 swimming pools.
Not all learning takes place in the classroom. That’s why BISP provides a range of general learning facilities to support learning. These include two libraries, a soft play-room, Primary pods, an outdoor pagoda and a spacious IB centre with a common room and University counselling suite.
BISP’s teaching spaces are designed to enhance learning.
The majority of classrooms are situated in separate Secondary and Primary buildings. BISP’s Early Years section also benefits from its own purpose-built space.
Additional ‘breakout’ spaces are situated throughout the school for collaborative and project-based learning. A variety of teaching areas exist outside of the buildings ranging from the amphitheatre to garden spaces in Early Years.

My time at BISP has led to me being a player here in Portugal playing for Sporting and just growing as a person, becoming the person I am today and being able to take on challenges in everyday life, in football and in everything else, so BISP has had such a huge influence on me not just as a football player, but as a person as well.
— Nicolai, BISP alumnus
When we made the decision to send our child to boarding school, safety was the most important factor. Naturally, we were worried about the safety of our child, but after meeting the dorm parents and staff, we were confident that we made the right decision. They answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns. I’m grateful for their patience and understanding. They encouraged me to call anytime and each time I did, I was welcomed with empathy and assurance.
— Flo, BISP Parent
I’m a high-performance golfer at BISP. I really enjoy practising in the BISP Golf Centre because the school has created bunkers, approach shots, putting greens, and a driving range which is all we need for training golf and this is the only school in Phuket that has a golf academy.
— IT, BISP student
I joined BISP in Year 10 from Malaysia. I am heading to Xavier University of Louisiana after graduation where I will be studying Mechanical Engineering on a scholarship. BISP has been a great support system for me, as I was able to balance academics and football while also pursuing my hobbies in automotive engineering.
—Chie, BISP student
The IB has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about my future. It has prepared me for the rigours of university-level studies, giving me the confidence and motivation to pursue a degree in biochemistry. Studying at BISP has improved my appetite for music, art, and sports and has contributed to my overall development.

reflection.
The Cambridge International Programme is available to students from an early age, ensuring that our students are better prepared for both National and International University entrances. SBS students are able to select the Cambridge International Programme at the start of Secondary One. Students will continue with the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme, focusing mainly on Cambridge English Language, Cambridge Mathematics, Cambridge Computer Science and Cambridge Combined Sciences throughout their Secondary One studies.
At the end of Secondary Three, students complete their IGCSE studies as well as their PSAT (Pre-SAT) exams. The PSAT exams ensure that students are prepared for the SAT exams at the end of their Secondary Four studies. Cambridge International students start their Cambridge AS/A-Levels in Secondary Four, where they select a minimum of three subjects which they focus on for the
next 3 years of their studies. The three subjects selections are aligned with their future studies at Universities. At the beginning of Secondary Four, our curriculum is designed to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to undertake external examinations such as Cambridge AS Level, SAT English, SAT Mathematics, and the English proficiency tests specifically, IELTS.
During their final year studies, students experience an Internship program, giving them the work experience they need to be better prepared for their future studies.
The unique Career Focussed Pathways gives students the opportunity to study in a programme that is aligned to their future field of study. Dialogue between students and the university counsellor starts to take place at Secondary 3. The Secondary 4 programmes are then designed based on evidence from studies interests.

In addition to being a Cambridge school that is confident in educational standards, the relationships between friends and friends, students with teachers, parents and teachers, and even between parents and parents themselves is a very good thing. At SBS, we feel like a caring and sharing society.
— Khun Patcharawan, M2 parent
There are many reasons for choosing to send your child to study at SBS. There is a good security system with a fence around in all directions. The teaching and learning curriculum focuses on practice, thus making the children assertive, giving the children self-confidence and courage to think, dare to act and express themselves with responsibility in their own duties. Also, the equipment, instructional media and arrangement of learning places both inside and outside the classroom is modern, allowing children to have imagination.
— Khun Daochaya, M6 parent
At SBS I have a lot of great friends. When I first came here my friends made me feel comfortable. Most of all I like the education system. During Primary (p1p5) we have an IB PYP education system and we get to practice our presentation skills and communication skills all the time. During Secondary, we get to learn the Cambridge education system where the education is another level. It is super fun in this school. Having great friends and good education makes it the best school. My favourite subjects are Maths, Science and English.
—Jedi, P6 student
I would recommend SBS to friends and family because they have good learning activities and it’s easy to stay interested. SBS has great teaching for each grade level and it has activities that are unique compared to other schools. The PYP system is unique because students get to communicate and express their understanding. The PYP exhibition is great because students can choose their own topics and have different ideas to express to younger students.
— Arthur, P6 student
I like that the school has a music practice room for the students to play during their free time. For music lovers like me I feel it’s very useful. There are a variety of musical instruments to practise with. When playing music, I feel happy all the time. What’s more, I like that school is a filming location for many TV series so when I watch the series and come to school it’s as if I really fell into the world of the series. A very beautiful school.

SBS Chiangmai Kindergarten is an accredited Cambridge Early centre that follows an Early Years Framework which is tailored to the needs of our children. The Early Years staff work as a team to plan for children’s learning in seven key areas identified within our framework, ensuring their skills are built progressively and with consideration of individual children’s needs and interests.
SBS Chiangmai delivers a comprehensive curriculum that provides students with opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and concepts to help them become internationally-minded bilingual citizens. The diversity of the students and teachers provides opportunities to collaborate and develop awareness of our similar and differing perspectives.
A child’s solid understanding of their first language is important in the development of a confident bilingual child. The trilingual approach, teaching English, Thai and Mandarin, starts from our Early Years. SBS Chiangmai primary students attend specialist classes for their first language of Thai or Mandarin. Mandarin as an Additional Language instruction is offered in order to ensure our trilingual approach is effective. As we embrace Thai values and bilingualism/trilingualism, all students participate in Thai Language and Culture classes. Thai as an Additional Language classes for non-native students begin in P1.
In Primary, English as an additional Language (EAL) support is provided within the context of the primary classroom. Homeroom and language support teachers plan together to deliver what individual students need to access the curriculum within the classroom setting. In some cases, a child may be provided individual or small group instruction outside of the classroom.
SBS Chiangmai Secondary School offers a corridor to higher education with the valuable key of bilingualism, unlocking doors to opportunities worldwide. Underpinning our dual-language pathway, Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) offers a culturally sensitive international curriculum to ensure the best in academic learning and holistic development.
Educational tracking involves the classification of students into different educational programs based on established criteria such as interest, ability, or achievement. In Lower Secondary, students are presented with pre-defined subjects that accommodate their varying abilities. As students progress from Year 9 to Year 10, they are presented with a broad selection of IGCSE and As/A Level topics from which they can identify areas of study to focus on.
At SBS Chiangmai, Lower Secondary students are introduced to four unique tracks/strands to choose from, ensuring that they are fully equipped with the necessary academic skills to prepare them for university or career pathways.
Track Students whose interests thrive around Medical Sciences are given the opportunity to focus on a track leading to Medical Studies. SBS Chiangmai’s Medical track is uniquely-designed to provide the students the needed content knowledge to be fully-equipped when pursuing medical studies in the future. Apart from our Internship programmes with various hospitals in Thailand, our medical simulation centre also provides the opportunity for students to gain first hand experience.
The engineering track in SBS Chiangmai is a specialised
study pathway. This pathway has a two-fold function: It guides students in selecting the most suitable IGCSE and A-Level subject combinations required for a career in engineering and the physical sciences. It also provides practical experience in the field of manufacturing, technology and scientific research through specialised field trips, internships and within-school experimental research.
Students who excel in interpersonal skills and demonstrate great understanding in promotion and marketing are led to the Business Enterprise Track to better focus on needed competencies required for business studies in future career paths. Business Studies and English are essential, and Extended Mathematics is recommended. Business Studies is the main subject aligned with the track as it gives students an insight into how a business operates, including its environment, human resource management, marketing, operations management as well as finance and accounting.
The Art, Design, and Technology track presents an exceptional opportunity for students to express their creativity, develop fine motor skills, and enhance hand-eye coordination. This track also promotes the cultivation of various cognitive skills, including problem-solving, lateral thinking, complex analysis, and critical thinking. By integrating technology, students can delve deeper into graphic design and illustration using advanced software. Moreover, the Art, Design, and Technology track provides a pathway for students to gain expertise in UX design, communication, and design theory.

We have three kids at SBS Chiangmai. We are very happy! SBS Chiangmai is definitely the best school in Chiang Mai. This is because we were impressed that SBS Chiangmai is a Cambridge International school so we get a great education.
We were impressed about the low number of students in the classes meaning this is a fantastic value for money and the kids get a fantastic education.
Also SBS Chiangmai has a very nice environment. We felt welcome from the very first minute. We are very, very happy and can only recommend SBS Chiangmai wholeheartedly.
Education is the blueprint of a country. Education needs to encompass more than simply academics alone. Education is about developing and equipping individuals to understand themselves and maximise their full potential. A proper education teaches students the ability for critical thought, to be inquisitive, to find and formulate answers and ultimately to enjoy learning.
The foundational result of learning is self-belief and self-confidence: to try, to fail and to overcome and then to try again. Effectively cultivated, education is a continuous learning process that is instilled early on and guided towards maturity throughout the years.
Likewise, educational institutions need to promote the fact that all individuals have different strengths and unique abilities. A school’s purpose should be to create a passionate student body whose individuals are both eager to learn a broad range of faculties and competencies as well as learning about themselves.
The Arthit Ourairat Institution was founded to support and advance learning institutions whose goals are open-mindedness within a passionate and stimulating environment that challenges students in a comfortable community full of diverse peers and faculty.
Our students have the opportunity to become their best selves rather than to be moulded into an archetype. The Arthit Ourairat Institution attracts internationally minded students to experience a world class education that adds value not only to its graduates but also to the communities in which they will live.
Dr Apiramon Ourairat CEO

OUR SCHOOL
BANGKOK
PHASE : CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENT - 01
SBS Bangkok, based in Lat Krabang, is a forthcoming bilingual international school, and part of the Arthit Ourairat Institution, offering the highly regarded IB PYP and Cambridge Secondary international curricula.
SBS Bangkok will also offer career focused tracks for students who do not wish to study the Cambridge curriculum in Upper Secondary. The tracks are aligned with the requirements from the Thai Ministry of Education and also Tertiary Institutions around the world.
It will be a full school admitting students from age 2 and education to age 18, or graduation, providing entry requirements to higher education.
In line with the group’s mission, it will emphasise cultivating curiosity, academic excellence and personal well being.
SBS Bangkok will be the only IB PYP bilingual school in the area.
SBS Bangkok has established MOUs with a network of international Universities, enabling students in their final year to take University credit. This fast-track option means students can join select Universities in year 2 of higher education studies, saving parents money and saving students time.
The bilingual nature of the school also opens up opportunities in both Thailand and English speaking countries for higher education and career pathways.
SBS Bangkok will offer tailored tracks in the Secondary school enabling students to focus on their areas of special interest as they prepare for higher education.
The school will be non-selective, and in the tradition of AOI schools will add value to each student’s academics, rather than simply admit A grade students with preexpected exit grades.
SBS Bangkok will focus on what matters most to its target markets: an efficient use of resources and efforts towards adding value to a child’s skills and knowledge development, streamlined access to higher education, and expansion of higher education and career opportunities, rather than facilities and optional leisure programmes used by a minority of students
