Lives CONNECTING
Summer 2020 Edition
Using virtual support to stay connected
After the first case of COVID-19 was detected in North Dakota and social distancing became a new normal, the Bismarck Cancer Center’s support programs came to a screeching halt leaving a void in the support system designed to provide cancer support for the community. After a couple of weeks without yoga or support groups, the BCC staff put their heads together to find a way to connect with patients and friends. The answer came in the form of virtual support programs. Like everyone else who has learned about video meetings, conference calls, and other creative ways to connect while staying apart, our programs went online. What a blessing! The online groups not only connected the regular participants, but it has brought together new attendees from beyond Bismarck/Mandan. With the virtual groups, people
who live in rural areas of North Dakota can connect online where the long drive to attend in person made it hard or impossible to participate in the past. “We are looking forward to the days when we can all come back together again,” said Marketing Director Sara Kelsch. “This time has shown us new ways to connect, and we are happy to have these opportunities for the community.”
