The Bishop Grimes Administration and Board of Trustees are excited to provide a paperless and transformative learning environment for our BG students.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS? Beginning in the fall of 2021 and included in the standard activity fee for our families, each BG student will be equipped with the latest version of the iPad, replacing the previously issued Chromebooks. The iPads will be handed out at the beginning of each academic year and collected at school years end to be cleaned and updated for the following school year.

WHAT’S INCLUDED WITH THE iPad? Each student iPad will come with a Protective Logitech Keyboard Case that allows for students to learn, create, and explore with over three different modes— type, viewing, sketch, read, and camera. Unlike in the past, student iPads will have Apple Care + Support, resulting in extremely low costs for any accidents or glitches that may occur during student use of the device. Additionally, all iPads will be replaced with the newest version every four years, creating a more appropriate timeline to today’s “device life” standards. For example, a student attending Bishop Grimes beginning in 7th grade, can expect a brand-new iPad heading into their junior year. CLICK TO LEARN MORE

ADDING TECHNOLOGY TO THE CLASSROOMS? Collaboration and presentation in the classroom will be seamless, with each classroom touting a 70 inch, 4K TV and an Apple TV. The flat screen TVs will be mounted on mobile stands, allowing teachers to the ability to create different learning spaces in their classrooms, unlike the stagnant classroom set ups necessary for projections and Smartboards. Apple TV 4K will provide the best viewing, listening, and collaborative experience for our students and teachers. The use of 4K will provide our students a crisper picture using four times more pixels than standard HD. High Dynamic Range (HDR) delivers brighter, more realistic colors and greater detail to anything on the screen.

The student iPads come equipped with a variety of accessibility features that include read aloud, type to text, translation, and many more.

TRANSFORMING THE ROADMAP TO

STUDENT SUCCESS T

preparatory class will introduce 7th Graders (and transfer students) to Bishop Grimes, and what our expectations are of them for academic success.

Bishop Grimes subscribes to the philosophy that students are to be treated as individuals in a caring, supportive environment that fosters the intellectual, personal, and spiritual growth of all. We engage with students, families, and faculty in the mission and spirit of Bishop Grimes.

This is a big step in development and growth that will ensure success throughout their education. Through Bishop Grimes Success we will support students with a multitude of lessons and hands-on activities from developing good classwork habits, study skills, self-advocacy, responsible technology use, as well as foster school behavior and social expectations. The class will provide students with a structured road map to success at Bishop Grimes and beyond.

he Office of Academic Affairs includes Academic Counselors Laura Burnett and Alexandra Scullion and Academic Support and Testing Coordinator Nicole Enck, are excited to announce the creation of a new Student Services program, along with “Bishop Grimes Success,” a newly created academic preparatory class for 7th grade students here at BG.

“Our vision is to be a supportive environment in which students are treated as individuals and are encouraged in their academic, personal and spiritual walks,” said Burnett. “We will continue to place emphasis on the whole person and the development of life competencies and skills.” In conjunction with the announcement of newly created services being offered to students, incoming 7th graders at BG will be enrolled in a Bishop Grimes Success class. The academic

Academic Support and Testing Coordinator Nicole Enck discussed the process and transition to a new school saying, “It can be overwhelming walking around in new halls, new classes, locker combinations, rotating schedules, teacher expectations, social expectations and much, much more. Here at Bishop Grimes we are giving students the tools they need to become successful, independent learners. By giving students the structure to succeed, Bishop Grimes will continue to succeed.”

The POWER OF ONE AN INTRODUCTION TO FACTS

Taking the lessons learned from changes in education in 2020, Bishop Grimes is poised to head into next year with necessary upgrades and changes to our virtual presence; FACTS is one of many ways we plan to do that.

STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT The FACTS Student Information system provides the school comprehensive access to the following: Admissions, Attendance, Communication, Comprehensive reporting Health information management, Report cards, Standards-based grading, Student behavior tracking, Student and family information management, Transcripts and much more. Families can be assured their financial and student data is

W

e learned the importance of the virtual process this past year and know that creating virtual consistency and efficiency, while moving towards a paperless environment for our families, students and staff is important. With that in mind, Bishop Grimes is excited to announce that the evolution will begin this spring with the launch of our new financial, giving, and website platform. Following the launch, we plan to make a full conversion ahead of the new school year in July 2021. FACTS is set to replace the former tuition, website, student information, and giving platforms, streamlining everything to one provider. The benefits will be seen for this across the board. With FACTS, families will be able to have one singular login to check their financial information as well as their student(s)’ records and class information. This will allow for the application process to be through that same login in vs. the current logins across multiple platforms for families.

protected and remains private as FACTS is SSAE 18 audited and PCI DSS Level 1 validated. This makes them one of the most secure school management platforms out there. Every class will post lesson plans for the week and grades will be updated on a regular basis, ensuring parents/guardians and students are receiving the most up to date information. Report cards will be made available at the end of each semester, virtually.

MARKING PERIODS TO SEMESTERS In the past, Bishop Grimes has always operated on a 4 marking period system. In an effort to be more in line with our goal of preparing students for college, we will move to two semesters. This is also how postsecondary schools look at transcripts. Marking periods were necessary when report cards needed to be mailed home or handed out, often providing the first look for families at a student’s grades. Now, with efficient student information systems like FACTS, parents/guardians can look any time to check in and follow up with their student’s progress.

ENROLLMENT & COMMUNICATIONS Continuing with exciting updates, the new website will be launching May 1. We believe a website is an extension of the daily life/information of a school and we will provide a website that is updated, information filled, and visually represents our school and the Bishop Grimes brand. Our website will be the first stop for any student or family looking for information about our school, either as a current or prospective member of our community. The website will also be used to highlight the many accomplishments of our school. Additionally, the BG App will work with the website and

Our suite of products include a school information system (SIS) and learning management system (LMS) that support school efforts to promote consistency, collaboration, and academic excellence.

FACTS MANAGEMENT

ADVANCEMENT FACTS giving will partner our fundraising and giving efforts with a text-to-give functionality and a special giving page where donors can easily select where to direct their donations. Giving through FACTS will be a more user friendly experience by simplifying potential donations, and will allow Bishop Grimes to create, track, and manage fundraisers more efficiently through the creation of appeal pages.

The Board of Trustees and administration are proud to be the only private, secondary school in CNY offering this streamlined platform to our families. Virtual presence in 2020 is everything and we want to be sure our students and families have access. We look forward to the benefits of these upgrades for our community in the 2021-2022 school year.

FACTS, a Nelnet company, is committed to making educational dreams possible through service and technology. FACTS serves more than three million students and families at over 11,500 schools, and manages $9 billion in tuition funds annually. They provide us with knowledge, perspective, and often life lessons. The Cobras Connect panel series is an avenue for the entire BG community to listen, understand, and aspire.”

Through Cobras Connect and the BG Vision, students and families will have the opportunity to hear from individuals who were once in their shoes, former students and graduates of Bishop Grimes. The inaugural virtual panel took place on March 10, and can be viewed on all Bishop Grimes social media platforms. Future Cobras Connect panel discussions will be announced at a later date.

Q&A

PRINCIPAL ALLYSON HEADD ANSWERS QUESTIONS

Q

As an Alumna of Bishop Grimes, what are some of your greatest memories as a student? A: The greatest memories I have as a student are all of the experiences and events the school puts on throughout the year: homecoming games, Grimes Day, senior trips, Catholic Schools Week, etc.

Q

Describe your experience as a former three-sport student-athlete at BG? A: I had a great experience as an athlete here. The lessons learned in the classrooms were only extended by the lessons learned in athletics. I believe that the ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship, strategy, and competition are the basis for success, and all of that I learned playing sports.

Q

Was there a specific teacher or class at BG that had a significant impact on your life? A: Mrs. Toscano was my favorite teacher, and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from a woman like her.

Q

In your opinion what makes Bishop Grimes special? A: I would have to give the answer that echoes many others: the family that the students, teachers, and staff here create. Choosing Bishop Grimes, following my time at Holy Cross Elementary, was one of the best decisions (my parents) made for me. I don’t know another high school that provides such a welcoming, faith based, and inclusive environment for students to excel in. It’s one thing to promote excellence, it's another to actually provide the environment and support that allows all students an opportunity to reach it.

Q Q

What would your message be to any prospective student considering Bishop Grimes? A: WELCOME!

Q

What/who has been most influential during your career in education? A: I have been very fortunate in my career, to have had the opportunity to travel and learn about different cultures, and experience education in those cultures. As a leader, it is very important to remain a student and learn whenever provided the chance. The knowledge I gained traveling throughout Europe, China, and Africa, and the experiences witnessing different perspectives of students, teachers, and administrators in those places, have provided me the opportunity to learn globally. I'm very blessed with an education and career that was not just founded on achievements in the form of degrees or years in a position, but enriched with experiences such as these.

Q

What went into the decision to return home, having worked previously as a principal in another state? A: I think the older you get, the more important being close to family becomes. This past year is when I began considering opportunities closer to home for the first time. I believe God always has a hand in how everything plays out, and knowing that Bishop Grimes was where I most wanted to be, provided me the opportunity to lead here, at the right time. I want Bishop Grimes and Catholic Education to remain sustainable for many years to come.

Why did you become an educator? Is it something you always wanted to do? A: Teaching was always what I was interested in. I can remember, from a very young age, admiring how much teachers impact the lives of their students, and then once I became a teacher, how much an educational experience can impact a student’s life.
