Alumni and Friends, Happy New Year! We are so excited to embark on a new year here at Bishop Gorman filled with hope and promise. Fall was busy, as usual, and marked with many successes. Our BGHS Marching Band won their first ever 1st Place Title in school history (see page 12)! This program has come a long way over the years and we are so proud of these students for all their dedication and hard work! Our fall sports teams won THREE State Championships in football (10th in a row!); women’s volleyball; and women’s soccer (see page 14). Our students are doing wonderful things in our community, serving others and helping make our valley a better place (page 4). Another exciting “first” this year, a home basketball game was aired live on ESPN (see page 13)! The crowd and energy that night brought back memories, reminding many of the Gorman vs. Durango games on the Maryland Parkway campus (just not as hot!). It was amazing to see the spirit in the House of Glory that night exactly the same as it was 20 years ago.

Being part of the Bishop Gorman community is truly a blessing. Granted, high school itself can be some of the most trying times in a young person’s life. The gift of a Bishop Gorman education often does not reveal itself until long after graduation. You might be sitting in a college lecture or navigating through a difficult time in your life when you have that moment of gratitude. I often hear from our alums about how our community has supported them or what they learned here benefitted them throughout their lives. When I see people get married and their wedding party is made up of fellow Gaels or when they need prayers and support they turn to their high school friends, it make me realize what a special place this is.

When you are a Gael you are a Gael for life and your Bishop Gorman family will always be there to support you. We are community, we are family.

There is no better time to celebrate and embrace our community than at the Knight of the Gael. This year marks our 37th annual Knight of the Gael and we will be honoring Mary Alice (Bauchman) '80 and Scott Nielson. Mary Alice and Scott’s commitment to Bishop Gorman has never wavered. Whether it is supporting their children’s academic and extra-curricular activities or chairing a capital campaign when Bishop Gorman is counting on them, they never disappoint. We are grateful to count them as one of our many blessings.

We hope you can join us on Thursday, March 28th at the Red Rock for this wonderful evening filled with friendship and tradition.

MIRACLE MINUTE Bishop Gorman came through, once again, for victims of a natural disaster. Hurricane Michael hit Florida with a vengeance, and we had a Miracle Minute to help with the recovery effort. Over $3,000.00 was raised and the check was sent to Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida where 100% of our donation will be used directly to help the survivors of this awful hurricane.

Teamwork On November 18, 2018, the Bishop Gorman Baseball Team gathered to display kindness to the Agoura Baseball Team. The team raised over $2000 in gift cards, purchased tee-shirts for the team and had a pizza lunch for them after the team was affected by the wild fires in California.

The team, coaches and families were very grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity shown to them.

The Rescue Mission is one way our students serve the Las Vegas community through our Christian Service program. Twice a month students from Bishop Gorman, accompanied by Bro. Rob and other faculty/staff, serve at the community meal at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission exists to provide help and hope to the homeless and men, women and children of Las Vegas.

The Bishop Gorman students serve joyfully and Geoffrey Post, volunteer coordinator at the Rescue Mission, sings the praise of our students. Geoffrey states that he has never experienced young people who serve with such compassion and respect towards the clients of the Mission. Bishop Gorman is one of his favorite volunteer groups.

Bro. Rob has seen firsthand the response of both the clients and the students who share in the community meal. Many students who have served state that going to the Rescue Mission has been their favorite Christian Service opportunity as they see the impact they are making on those in need. Most students who serve sign up to serve over and over again because of what they felt they received from the experience. The Bishop Gorman community has also sponsored a blanket drive, collected hats and gloves for the clients and prepares sack lunches that are distributed each Monday.

One of our goals with our Christian Service program is to attempt to expose our students to a real variety of service opportunities so they can truly find their passion. We often find that a student will continue serving long after their required hours when they have found what moves them. Julia Sanman '19, is a shining example of someone who connected with a particular service and has continued to pursue it. Julia leads other students, on a regular basis, in creating plastic mats to give to the homeless. The mats are made out of recycled plastic bags that are woven using a wooden loom and are approximately 61/2 feet tall by 3 feet wide. They are light, compact, and protect an individual from the elements.

"I started making mats my freshman year, taking over the service project for a graduated senior who originally started it" said Julia. "I’ve made about 12 mats in total, each one taking between 10 to 12 hours to complete. I generally have about five to ten students helping me each week, earning them service hours. The mats are then given to the homeless who live in the tunnels of Las Vegas through the Shine A Light organization.

This has grown into such a passion of mine because I’ve seen the impact that these mats have made in the lives of those living in the tunnels, and I hope that this project continues to grow even after I graduate."

On December 16, 2018, the Bishop Gorman Football Team and Cheerleaders participated in serving a special early Christmas meal to over 850 members of the community’s less fortunate at Catholic Charities. This meal was held in memory of Frank Fertitta Jr. and sponsored by the Frank and Victoria Fertitta Foundation.

On January 3, 2019, while the Bishop Gorman Men’s Basketball Team was on the road for the annual Cancer Research Classic (CRC)basketball tournament in West Virginia, the boys took time to practice charitable acts of kindness at the local Catholic Charities headquarters. Players and coaches spent a couple of hours addressing, stuffing and sealing envelopes for the nonprofit's annual gala being held in March.

For the first time in the CRC's 12-year history, a competing team has arrived early with the aim of helping others. “This is something that Coach (Grant) Rice feels very strongly about — that his players have an obligation to give back and help out. Tournament Director Dr. Gregory Merrick said “Actions like this by Bishop Gorman speak to what they’re all about. They’re a high academic high school with outstanding athletics all bundled into doing God’s work and helping others. If you don’t help someone get better each day, you’ve lost a day.”

Bishop Gorman Internship Program The Bishop Gorman Internship Program was established in 2012 with seven participating businesses and has since come a long way. Thanks to the excellent job our students have done year after year and the support of our community, the program continues to grow and prosper. In the program’s seventh year, 15 businesses provided internships to 23 Bishop Gorman juniors during the summer of 2018.

Alumni, parents, and friends of Bishop Gorman make up the group of supporters of this program and provide our students with priceless opportunities throughout the Las Vegas Valley. We are proud to have ongoing partnerships with businesses and welcome new participants each year.

Two students, Kyle Rainey '19 and Julia Sanman '19, had the opportunity to intern at Alston Construction which provides our students with a very unique experience. Not only do the students get experience, Alston makes arrangements with partner contractors so the students can see everything that goes into the construction management process.

The Internship Program offers Bishop Gorman students an experience not many high school students receive, contributing to the college-preparatory curriculum. “Interning at the Cleveland Clinic was very enlightening.” Gary Nguyen '19 said. “It really helped me realize why I wanted to be a physician.”

Through direct observation, reflection and evaluation, students gain an understanding of the internship site’s work, how these potentially relate to their academic study, as well as a clearer perspective on and better understanding of their career goals and objectives. Emily Burton '19 who interned at Pyatt Silvestri Law said “I learned real skills that people in real professions have to know and use every day.”

The 33rd Annual Bishop Gorman Golf Classic was held on Thursday, November 8th at Spanish Trail Country Club and was most certainly one for the books! Between the beautiful weather and all of the great supporters at the tournament, it was a fun day for all. The day was especially exciting for our tournament winners! Congratulations to our Low Gross winners from Wells Cargo and our Low Net winners from The Budin Group.

homecoming Homecoming 2018 was another great success!

The day started off with the traditional Alumni Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel presided by Father Bill Kenny '62.

BGHS students provided campus tours of our beautiful campus and facilities. In the House of Glory, alumni, students, faculty and friends gathered to get pumped up for the big game. BGHS Theatre Guild presented The Dancer’s Story: Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland in Jim3 House of Performing Arts.

Reuniting with old classmates on the Upper Fields was a great treat. The night was complete when our football team came away with a victory against Desert Oasis High School.

Gaels Theatre Guild The original Dancer’s Story, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, was presented in the Jim3 House of Performing Arts in October 2018. Alice took audiences falling down a rabbit hole to meet magical characters in strange situations while on a curiouser and curiouser adventure!

While Alice danced in the contemporary style, she magically grew and shrunk throughout her adventure in Wonderland with the help of pre-recorded movies that were presented on our ground-supported LED unit. The other characters expressed their madness through the various dance styles of modern, pointe, musical theatre, swing, the circus arts, hip hop, tap, country 2-step, sign language and even belly dance! Under the direction of Elena Ferrante-Martin, with the collaboration of six dance specialists and a top-notch design team, Bishop Gorman High School’s innovative and imaginative production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland proved that yes, we’re all mad here… with creativity!

Marching Band makes history with 1st Place finish!

Each year the Bishop Gorman Band members gather to discuss the upcoming year.

They knew that this year would be a highly competitive year. Training day in and day out, fine tuning their skills and pushing each other daily, they were determined to come out on top!

On November 3, 2018, with a score of 66.75, the Bishop Gorman Marching Band not only scored their highest marking in the history of the program but also earned their first-ever 1st Place Title in school history at the Marching Band Open Series-Las Vegas Invitational.

Their performance also earned them “caption awards” for Best General Effect, Best Music, and Best Visual Performance in their class.

This season, the band was led by Drum Majors Zachary Geinzer '19 and Adam Goldberg '20 and their student-leadership was of the highest caliber the program has ever seen.

Congratulations to the Bishop Gorman Marching Band, Mr. Geoff Neuman and Mr. Kyle Bissantz, on receiving this well-deserved recognition.

As a college preparatory institution, college is at the forefront of our students’ minds. Our full-time college counselor, Ryan Pietranton '92, ensures that all students have the tools necessary to make an informed decision when it comes to their college choices. This fall we hosted our 6th Annual College Fair with over 100 college representatives on campus. This evening is exclusively for Bishop Gorman families and is one of the many resources available to students and parents.

ESPN takes over the House of Glory!

On November 29, 2018, ESPN was front and center for the first time in Bishop Gorman Basketball history!

The stands were filled with BGHS students cheering in the G-Block and the crowd came ready for a big game! The men’s basketball team battled with the Coronado Cougars all the way 'till the end. The eventful evening finished with Gaels taking the victory of 88-75.

Great Way to End 2018!

Speech & Debate had a winning end to the year! On December 6, three students competed at the Lion’s Club Annual Speech Contest.

Mateo Portelli '20 won First Place at the contest with Joseph Candela '20 (Catherine [Ghem] Candela '85) and JT Novotni '21 taking runners up. The following weekend at the Rancho Invitational Tournament, Kira Kramer '21 (Dianne Sivoli-Kramer '77) was a finalist in Humorous Interpretation and Mateo Portelli once again took First Place in Congressional Debate. This is the fourth tournament where Mateo has ranked First!

Congratulations to Alyssa Gnoyski '19, Sophia Judice '21 and Cerena Sedano '20 who have earned a bid to the National Tournament of Champions in Dramatic Interpretation.

Women’s Volleyball: Under first year coach, Mr. Gregg Nunley, women’s volleyball (39-4) won the 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in Reno, NV against Reno High School on November 10, 2018. The Lady Gaels finished #21 in the U.S.A., which is the highest rank of any time in Nevada history.

Women’s Soccer: The women’s soccer team had the best year in school history. Not only did they go undefeated at 27-0-1, but they finished the season with a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and a #6 National Ranking. This Bishop Gorman team becomes the highest ranked Nevada team in the 20-year Fab 50 History.

Football: On December 1, 2018, Bishop Gorman Football claimed its 10th consecutive NEVADA STATE 4A TITLE. The Gaels beat Bishop Manogue 69-26 at Sam Boyd Stadium. The team finished with a 12-3 record.

Cross Country: The Bishop Gorman Cross Country Women’s team had another

respectable year, finishing 2nd in the Desert Region, advancing to the State Meet at Veteran’s Park in Boulder City. This was consecutive years that the team qualified for the State Meet. Emilia Puskas '21 anchored the team all year, finishing 3rd at Regionals and 7th at the State Meet. Jaqueline Leon '19, Jayden Krmpotich '20, Lauren Dennis '20, and Geraldine Valencia '20 also place at the Regional meet and competed in the State Meet with the Lady Gaels runners.

All-State Women’s: First Team: Emilia Pukas '21.

On the men’s side, Massimiliano Swenson '19 finished 2nd in the Desert Region meet and competed at the State Tournament.

All- State: Second Team: Massimiliano Swenson.

Women’s Golf: Our women’s golf team won their league, placed 2nd in the Desert Regionals, and qualified as a team for the State Tournament in Dayton, NV. In the State Tournament, the team battled and finished the two day tournament in 3rd place overall. With a young team, the Lady Gaels should be ready to make another State Tournament run next year.

Men’s Soccer: Men’s soccer had another

successful season finishing 13-4-1. The team made it to the semi-finals, but had a tough loss against Durango High School with the score of 1-0 on November 1, 2018.

Veteran’s Day

On November 12, 2018, over 1,500 students, faculty and staff members gathered in the House of Glory Gymnasium for a special Veteran’s Day assembly to remember and honor those who have served, continue to serve and protect our country.

The assembly began with the Star Spangled Banner performed by the Worship Chamber Musicians and Worship Choir. Bishop Gorman’s President, Mr. John Kilduff, spoke about his memories of life and war.

Fall Signing Day On November 15, 2018, Bishop Gorman held the NCAA National Letter of Intent Fall Signing Day, the first of three signing days of the year. This was a special day for senior student athletes who are receiving scholarships to attend college.

Golden and Great, Class of ’68.

Our 50 Year Reunion began in May as we walked with the Class of 2018 as Golden Grads, followed by a class dinner at the Italian American Club hosted by Kathie and Albert Faccinto '68.

In October, Homecoming and Reunion festivities included several classmates attending the Alumni Mass & Coffee event on campus, followed by the Tailgate Party and Homecoming Game.

A fitting finale to our reunion was an “Old Vegas" dinner party at the Bootlegger Ristorante. It was standing-room-only as we came together from Colorado to California and Montana to Arizona.

Years may pass, but our friendships never fade. BGHS and the Class of '68 “Here’s to You.”

After 15 years together, Melissa Amador '96 and Rick Cedeno were married on April 20, 2018 at the MGM Skyline Terrace here in Las Vegas, NV.

On September 29, 2018 Nathan Wadhams '95 and Mandy Hall were married in a ceremony and reception at Wally's Hot Springs Resort in Minden, Nevada. They were joined by family and friends, including alumni: Katie (Wadhams) Spanish '99, Brianna (Haines) Wadhams '01 and Jimmy Wadhams '02, Courtney (Bonnici) Wadhams '05 and Danny Wadhams '05. The couple works and lives in Carson City, Nevada.

Desiree (Nivet) Saggese '97 and husband,Marc,welcomed their third daughter, Alexandria Nicole, on July 11, 2018 at 7:02 p.m.

Baby Alexandria was 7 lbs. 10 oz. & 19.5 inches long. Big sisters, Geneva and Angelina, are such great helpers.

Dan McElhattan III '88 is a professional graphic designer who works and resides in Las Vegas. Dan has published over 44 international design books, has assisted many organizations in establishing their brand, and has written & directed a commercial with Dancing with the Stars.

He is currently a tenured Professor of Design at CSN North Las Vegas.

On March 27, 2018, Cedric Crear '87 was sworn in as the Las Vegas Councilman for Ward 5. He is blessed to serve the community.

Class of 1998 20th reunion weekend started off with BGHS’s pre-game tailgate party, where they saw plenty of old friends and got to meet their families.

Saturday evening, they celebrated at Vintner’s Grill. It was the perfect Vegas night while the DJ was rockin’ 90's music all night. It was an epic night!

Hilary Kennedy '98 welcomed her miracle baby boy, Brayden William Kennedy on July 19, 2018 at 9:42 am. Brayden was 5lbs 9oz and was 19 Âź inches.

Hazel was 8lbs 11 oz and 20 inches. She loves laughing with her big brother.

2000s High school sweethearts, Kristin (Glover) Creel '02 and Trevor Creel '02, welcomed the birth of their son, Lucas Nolan on January 30, 2018.

Jessica Bombard '09 and Gary Ebersbach '05 welcomed Milo Robert to the world on July 28, 2018. Grandchild to the late Martha (Vuceta) Ebersbach '74.

On November 12, 2017, Christian Raeder '08 and Clara were married.

The happy couple resides in Georgia.

Daniel Ciminise '09 and wife, Amber, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Avery Rose, on May 24, 2017.

Meghann (Ditsworth) '04 and James Newman welcomed daughter, Quinn Marie, June 29, 2018. They reside in Springfield, IL where Meghann teaches in a Catholic school and James is a Sports Medicine Physician.

Winter 2018

Danielle Margulis '02 got engaged during the fall of 2018 to Thomas Faber. The couple looks forward to a wedding next fall in Southern California.

Samantha Cashman '07 and Nathan Rayburn were married in Lake Tahoe on September 29, 2018. Alumni members in the wedding party included parents of the bride: Timothy and Denise Cashman '78, Ali Cashman '09, Jane Carlson '07, Madeline Ocon '08, Lauren (Roberts-York) Cordeiro '07, Camille Ewing '09, Desiree and Garrett '09, Emma Benjamin '12.

The happy couple live and work in Las Vegas.

Bryce McEachern '14 graduated from Graceland University, after four years as one of their top golfers, with a degree in Athletic Training. He was named their Athletic Trainer of the year and is now employed by OrthoNebraska Hospital as a therapist-technician.

Andrew Ryan '13 graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Arts in Global Thought in May 2018 and magna cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a minor in History and a Certificate of Political Thought and Leadership in May 2017.

He worked this summer at the Centro de Inteligencia Territorial, in conjunction with the Columbia University Global Opportunity Center, in Santiago, Chile.

Marco Anthony Bevilacqua On October 31, 2018, heaven received a beautiful angel, Marco Anthony Bevilacqua, Class of 2003, born October 23, 1984 in La Jolla, California.

Marco’s laugh and smile were contagious to all those around him. He showed passion and charisma with every relationship in his life. He never missed an opportunity to connect and build a memorable moment with the people that meant most to him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Hasbrouck and Smut Warren. Marco is survived by his grandparents, Edward Bevilacqua, Colleen Bevilacqua, Lou Hasbrouck, and June Warren; parents, Mark Bevilacqua, Joy Bevilacqua, and Gail Hasbrouck-Malguy; sister, Marisa (Bevilacqua) Delgado '04; brother, Blane Bevilacqua; sister, Bridgett Bevilacqua; niece, Isabella Delgado; and nephew, Santino Delgado.

Royce Feour

Arielle Poole '14 married Matthew Nardone on August 18, 2018. They met at a Bishop Gorman football game 7 years ago.

The couple were married at Wadley Farms Castle.

Her best friend, Brianna McAuther '14 stood by her side as the Maid of Honor.

Corynne McEachern '15 is the center-mid fielder and senior captain for the women’s soccer team at Aurora University. She maintained her 4.0 with a triple major in biology, chemistry, and health sciences.

During the summer of 2018 she interned at the University of Chicago, exploring the relationship between water arsenic and diabetes.

Royce Feour was a staple in the Las Vegas athletic community for four decades. There is no one who knew more about sports in Las Vegas than him, he was a walking record book. Royce had a particular passion for prep sports, especially Bishop Gorman High School. He was so proud of any product that the city produced and followed their progress religiously. After he retired, he was a frequent fan in the stands, cheering on the Gaels. On December 25, 2018, Royce passed away after a long illness. In 2011, Royce was inducted into NIAA Hall of Fame, Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2005. He retired from the Review-Journal in 2004 after 37 years.

He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man and will forever be in our hearts.
