future DOCT RS in the field This past April, BGHS teacher and Medical Society moderator, Mrs. Truitt, took several students to experience Discover Medicine Rounds at Roseman University of Health Sciences. Groups of students were assigned a “patient” and worked alongside a physician. They had to determine the diagnosis, and present their findings from a medical specialist’s perspective. This unique experience gave the students a real understanding of the medical field. At the end, participants were acknowledged during an award presentation.

Counselor’s Corner ATTENTION JUNIORS: After attending the National Association

of College Admission Counselors Conference, it became obvious that an Application Camp would be beneficial to our Rising Seniors as they begin the college application process. This process is often the most stressful part of the senior year experience. The goal is for the Application Camp to help lower the stress of finding the right fit and meeting deadlines. By the end of our session, every senior who participates will have a complete Common Application (except for Essay), a complete academic and activities resume, a better understanding of the college essay, and a prioritized game plan for applying to college. The dates were chosen based on the fact that the Common Application is not available until August 1st. There is NO cost for the camp. Will this camp be successful for our students? Last year we had our first Camp and 166 rising seniors took advantage of the camp. Their feedback was very positive and they were relieved to have the application basically finished. Competition for admissions and scholarships is fierce, and applications need to be impeccable. Essays need to show personality and stand-out in a stack of hundreds or even thousands. This camp will be a step in the right direction to give our students that edge. Date: August 8 (A-D) August 10 (L-Q)

August 9 (E-K) August 11 (R-Z)
