PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Hello Lancer Parents, With February upon us, we begin the balancing act of keeping up with a busy spring on campus while looking ahead to the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Re-registration season for next school year has begun.

All current ninth graders were introduced to the course registration process and are currently meeting individually with their counselors to determine course selections for next school year. Over the next two months, this process will continue with current sophomore and junior students as well. Dads and moms are very much part of this process!

Students are expected to discuss their course plan with a parent and obtain an approval signature prior to submitting academic paperwork to their counselor.

Beyond making course selections, there is also a financial component to the re-registration process. The $300 Registration Fee-Part I, which reserves a student’s place for the 2020-2021 school year, has been billed automatically to the February tuition statement for all families of students in grades 9, 10, and 11. Payment of the non-refundable Registration Fee-Part I represents a commitment for your student to return to Bishop Amat for 2020-2021.

For planning purposes, it is important that we are able to accurately predict our student enrollment numbers for next school year. As such, payments of the Registration FeePart I received after March 10 will incur a $50 fee ($350); payments received after April 1will incur an additional $100 fee ($400). Thank you in advance to all parents for remaining mindful of the March 10 deadline.

This time of year also provides our students with a number of opportunities for Christian Service. Thank you so much to those parents who facilitated their student’s involvement in Shoes that Fit drive and/or the provision of a hot meal to our community’s homeless that took place on January 29 at St. John Vianney Parish in Hacienda Heights. On February 19, all students will meet with their faculty advisors to review our school’s Christian Service requirements and upcoming service opportunities. Parents of senior students are especially reminded that fulfillment of Christian Service

FROM THE STUDIES OFFICE 7 Week Grades The first 7-Week grading period concludes on February 21. Parents and students can access digital Progress Reports online starting February 26.

Honor Roll Recipients Congratulations to the many students who have received both First and Second honors due to their academic performance during the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year. These outstanding students’ names are posted on campus in order to further honor their achievements. Thank you to all of the parents and guardians for the role that you play in helping your students succeed. Keep up the good work!

FROM THE STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE Jostens on Campus!

We will be hosting a Jostens Family Ring Night on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the library. At this event, a Jostens representative will be available to meet directly with parents to provide information, answer questions and to take orders for class rings.

Jostens will also be on campus during lunch to take orders directly from students on Thursday, February 6, Friday, February 7 and again on Thursday, February 13.

Parent Hours will be due soon! Earn some hours in our Infirmary. If you are Virtus trained and are willing to help, please call the Attendance Office (ext. 7440) to sign up for the Infirmary.

Parents are reminded that, per school policy, the school does not accept any food, balloons, flowers or other items delivered to the school in celebration of a birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day or other special day. We thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation.

AP Course Billing Billing for the May AP exams will occur in March.

Students were provided with advance notice of how much will be billed earlier this month. It is our hope that students shared that information with parents. 2018, 2019 Yearbooks The yearbook staff is currently reducing inventory of unclaimed copies of the 2018 and 2019 editions of the Tusitala yearbook. Students who never picked up their copy or those who may have lost their copy of the 2018 and/or 2019 edition, should follow up with Yearbook Advisor, Ms. Joseph-Pudvan (jjoseph@bishopamat.org). Parents are asked to confirm with their son or daughter as unclaimed copies will soon be recycled for materials.

FROM THE CAMPUS MINISTRY OFFICE Pro-Life Presentation On February 7, the student body will attend a presentation offered by Megan Almon of the Life Training Institute. Ms. Almon will speak to the sanctity of all life, with an emphasis on that of the unborn.

Parents who would like more information about the Life Training Institute may go to their website at prolifetraining.com.

Kairos 80 Parent Meeting On Monday, February 24, there will be a mandatory meeting for all parents whose senior students will be attending the Kairos 80 Retreat. This meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the school library. Please feel free to contact our Campus Minister, Mr. Christopher De Vera, at cdevera@bishopamat.org or extension 7420 if you have any questions.

Footprints 2020 On Saturday, February 29, Bishop Amat and Catholic Charities will host the annual Footprints Walk on campus. All proceeds raised will benefit the needy residing in the San Gabriel Valley. Participation in this event is open to everyone, but Bishop Amat students, parents, and friends are especially encouraged to be part of this worthwhile cause. FROM THE ACTIVITIES OFFICE Sadie Hawkins Dance Information The Sadie Hawkins Dance will take place on Saturday, March 7 at Knott's Berry Farm. Presale tickets will be available in the Student Store on Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7 for $60 per person. Regular price tickets will be available on the Bishop Amat website from Saturday, February 8 until Thursday, February 27 for $70 per person. The dance will take place from 6:30 p.m. -11:00 p.m. It is very important that if you are picking up your child, you must be at Knott's Berry Farm by 11:00 p.m. sharp to avoid incurring a late fee.

This is an event for Bishop Amat students ONLY. No Guest Passes are available.

MOTHER/SON DANCE Ticket Information The Mother/Son Dance will take place on Saturday, March 21 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. in the Carroll Center.

Presale tickets will be available in the Student Store on Thursday, February 27 and Friday, February 28 for $35 per person. Regular price tickets will be available on the Bishop Amat website from Saturday, February 29 until Thursday, March 12 for $40 per person.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Continued from page 1 (20 hours per school year) is a requirement for graduation from Bishop Amat High School. All Lancers are asked to save the date on Saturday, February 29 when our school will again host the annual Catholic Charities Footprints event which directly benefits needy families residing in the San Gabriel Valley. All students, parents, and members of the Bishop Amat Family are encouraged to participate.

And finally, Ash Wednesday Mass will be celebrated by the student body on February 26 at 11:20 a.m. in the Carroll Center. All parents are most encouraged to join us that day as we begin our Lenten journey toward the Easter Miracle.
