Som e plants get their work done early Som e m u st work on till fall .

Th ey are very m uch like people .
Som e people m ust work all day till evening .
Here is a treat for Mr . Bee .
Each of th ese little flowers has a
cup of ho n ey for hi m .
How many flowers do you think are here
Did you say two
O no ; this is a picture of m ore than a hundred flowers .
‘
Doz ens of li ttle flowers live on each clove r blossom .
They live as close together as they can . Perhaps they like good com
pany .
One of these little flowers , by itself, would not look very pretty.
It is so little you would hardl y see it .
Did you ever get the honey ou t of a clover blossom
You cannot do it as Mr . Bee does .
He puts his tongue down into th e
flower .
You have to pull out the little
flowers before y o u can get the honey .
It tastes so sweet and good , I do not wonder that Mr . Bee goes there
to get it .
One d ay a little seed in the brown
earth began to wake up .
It pushed up its head above the
ground .
It grew very fast .
It soon had m any leaves and a long
stem .
Its ro ots were d eep an d fir m in the
ground , but , strange to say, this little
plant co uld not stand up .
“ Wh at sh all I do it said .
“ I cannot bear to let my beautiful
leaves lie in the dirt .
”
“ Well , ” said a little tree near by , just crawl over to m e . I will help you get up .
“ Can you reach m e That is right ;
do not fear to try .
Now just hold on to m e .
”
Oh , thank you , Mr . Tree .
No w I can get up nicely .
I am so glad I did not give up t ry ing to grow at all.
”
So the hop vine wound itself round and round the little tree .
It was soon as high as the littl e tree
itself. It spread out i t s green leaves and looked very beautiful .
II . A H OP V INE .
Aft er a while som e
little flowers grew upon the vine . But they soon went away . Then som e
grew in their places .
