O ne day a stranger cam e and saw t h e pine tree s

He thought their m usic was very b eautiful .

He liked their queer, needle - like leave s

He said, “ I must have a little tree

like that in m y own hom e .

So he took a little pine tree with hi m when he went hom e .

The poor little tree was very lonely in the strange la nd .

Its beautiful singing was all changed to sighing .

And so all trees like it still sing the sam e sa d song .

I once read a story of a bluebell .

A bird told it to a poet .

I cannot say that it i s tr u e , but it is very beautiful .

This is the story : O nce a little flower

lived down in a deep , dee p val ley .

Rocks rose very high on each side .

Trees grew on top of the rock s

It m ust have been very sti ll and

lonely down there .

This little flower was white , whit e as snow .

In the day it could se e just a narrow

strip of blue sky over i t s head . I t

would look up every day and think

What a beautiful blue the sky is .

Then at night one bright star would

com e out to cheer the flower

THE BLUEBELL .

So every day th e little white flower loved and watched the blue sky.

Every night it looked up to the bright star .

Now com es the queer part of the story .

The little flo wer turned blue like th e sky it had watche d.

Inside of its cup cam e a little drop of d ew, bright like the star

Did y ou know that we are like the

flower in on e way

We grow to be like what we see an d love and think about very much .

It is so m u ch work that it take s som e of them all sum m er to get

done .

The sun helps ; the rain helps .

Every part of the plant does som e thing .

Som e day we shall learn how th e all help .
