Coach Adam - Growing up in England, Adam played for Coventry City youth academy and for Evesham United’s Junior Premier League Team. After a move to the US, he was placed in the varsity soccer program at William B Travis High School making school history by reaching the 4th round of UIL playoffs. Adam also played for the Houston Dutch Lions NPLS reserve team, U23’s, U20’s & U18’s teams. After high school, Adam playedfor Austin College men’s team featuring in 16 home and away games. Tenets The tenets of Tae Kwon Do are often given in a list of five: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

Courtesy (Ye Ui): Tae Kwon Do students should attempt to be polite to one another and to respect others. Students should address instructors as “Sir” or “Ma’am”. Turning up early or on time for classes is also an aspect of courtesy.

Integrity (Yom Chi): One who has integrity is able to define what is right or wrong and have the conscience, if wrong, to feel guilt. Tae Kwon Do students should strive to be honest and to live by moral principles.

Perseverance (In Nae): Perseverance means having patience. One of the most important secrets of becoming a leader in Tae Kwon Do is to overcome every difficulty by perseverance. Confucius said, “One who is impatient in trivial matters can seldom achieve success in matters of great importance.”

Self-Control (Guk Gi): Without self-control, a Tae Kwon Do student is just like any fighter in the street. Loss of self-control is disastrous both in sparring and personal affairs. “The term of stronger is the person who wins over oneself rather than someone else”– Lao Tzu. Indomitable Spirit (Baekjul Boolgool): A true student of Tae Kwon Do will never give up, not even when faced with insurmountable odds.

GENETICS AND DNA

COMETS, ASTEROIDS AND METEORS

Students learn about the structure of DNA and how scientists use this information to collect data and make predictions. Topics include PTC testing, Punnett Squares, Mutations, pedigrees and a DNA extraction lab. The students present the final project during the last day of the class.

Students explore the patterns and movement of bodies in our sky. They explore questions such as why the sun rises and sets, why the moon changes shape, why we have seasons and so much more! Students discover what causes craters, how asteriods function and the history of Meteors.

Chinese for Beginners Teacher: Ruth Huang We offer a fun and interactive way for beginning students to learn Chinese.

We will have 2 classes, mostly based on students' age.

Class 1: this is for Early Years students. They will learn Chinese pronunciations using pinyin. We will focus on those for animals, greetings, family members, numbers, colors, and basic body movement. We also introduce Chinese culture elements, such as Chinese paper cutting, Chinese rapping songs and Chinese children songs.

Class 2: this is for years 1 to 6. We will also use pinyin to learn Chinese pronunciation. They will learn fundamental Chinese language elements for listening, speaking, reading and writing.

We'll also cover Chinese calligraphy and other aspects of Chinese culture.

About Ruth Ruth graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics in China. She has been teaching Mandarin in the Houston Hua Xia Chinese School (both main and Katy campuses) for more than 12 years.

She also taught Chinese in 2 Katy ISD elementary schools' after-school program for 2 years. Her students are mostly nonnative Chinese speakers. In 2016, she started to offer Chinese for Beginners CCA program at the British International School Houston (BISH).
