How did Ruby Bridges change the world?

Ruby Bridges changed the world by overcoming racism. It took a lot of time but she managed to overcome it, she faced a lot of people that hated her but she didn’t really care.

New Orleans gave 150 black kindergarteners an entrance test to go to a white school, they thought the children had no chance of passing but 6 of them passed it, and one of them was Ruby. Ruby and two other girls (that was negros) were accepted to a school named William Frantz school.

She went near a seaport because her house was near it, her parents was happy for her. But in the first day of school, the two girls dropped out of school making Ruby the only black child in the school.

4 marshals from US picked up Ruby to school with her mom, they were told to go to the principal office and stayed there for the whole school day. White parents took their child/children out of school, 500 kids went out of school that day. The next day, the crowd doubled rapidly and shouted “2,4,6,8 we don’t want to integrate!” People tried to appalled Ruby by shouting “Let’s kill her!” “Let’s poison her!” or “Let’s hang her!”, but

Ruby stayed strong. Barber Henry was teaching Ruby as her pupil, she didn’t care about Ruby’s skin color. But Ruby was the only child in the class. Ruby still went to school not caring about the white people. At the end of the school year, Ruby was finally able to see the white children.

Ruby grew up as an adult, and in 1933 she went back to William Frantz school and saw the racism she saw as a child. She decide to open a foundation, she began telling stories of her young. Her foundation was successful and one of the book she wrote was called “Through My Eyes”. She taught her children about racism and told them to believe in faith. She also learn that racism comes from parents. If the parents show racism to the child, he or she will follow them.

Ruby faced a lot of racism, but she understand and ignored the people. She was one of those people who overcome racism like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Thurgood.

There are still racism in the world, but there are people who aren’t racist.

Philanthropist: A wealthy person who gives money and time to help make life better for other people.

Pupils: A child or young person who is being taught.

Racist: Poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race.

Rapidly: Happening in a short amount of time.

Rioters: A situation in which a large group of people behave in a violent and uncontrolled way.

Seaport: A town or city with a harbor where ships stop to load and unload cargo.

Opinion about Ruby Bridges Ruby Bridges change the world by going to a white school, made a foundation, and wrote books.

First, going to a white school. Second, opened a foundation called “The Ruby Bridges Foundation”. Last, wrote books, and won the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards for Book for Older Children. These three things reasons show us how Ruby changed the world.

Ruby went to a white school, racist white people that hated her shouted at her and hold signs that was saying “Go away from this school!” and “I’m gonna kill you!”. Ruby didn’t mind this at all because her determination was strong. The reason she went to a all white school is because she pass a test to go to a white school, there was 150 black kindergarteners that took the test and only 6 succeeded. She was in a class with no students other than her. But she was with a kind teacher named Barber Henry. All the teachers expect Ms. Henry didn’t wanted to teach Ruby, they had fun together.

As years pass, Ruby was separated from Ms. Henry. And when she was an adult, she opened a foundation she started to tell how to share how to overcome racism. She had interviews and told that racism comes from the parents. When the parents show racism to their kids, they do the same thing and share it to their kids.

She said the racism was like a disease, and she told her children about racism too.

She later start to write books about her life and won the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards for Book for Older Children (silver book award). Her books were all about her childhood life. Her books was famous, and it’s still famous. The books also made Ruby and Ms. Henry reunite.

In conclusion, Ruby is an amazing person. She didn’t give up going to school even if the rioters was telling her to stop, and she is a philanthropist. She was a person who didn’t give up and helped overcome racism as well as changing the world.

Seeing Real Bullying I was sipping cold water on a straw at church in at school. Then I saw a young kid bullying a older kid. The older kid looked upset, tried, and was saying “Stop!” I heard loud voices saying “Get her!” I thought it was a game and join in. I felt the wind because I was running so fast. The bully was wearing jeans and a white shirt.

The older kid was wearing a grey jacket and long black pants. After a week, I realize it was bullying.

A: One of the reason racism is still here is because people what to

hangout with people who are “like them”.

Q: Who else help racism end (In the past)?

A: Some of them are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa parks, Thur-

good, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass.

Q: When did segregation end?

A: Segregation ended in 1964.

The book I read is called “Through My Eyes” written by Ruby Bridges. It has the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards for Book for Older Children. It’s mostly about Ruby bridges life. Most of the book is about her childhood life. There are perspective of other people in the book, like Ms. Henry and Ruby’s mom.
