Virginality indicates the water’s level of nitrates and nitrites. Nitrate break down into nitrites, which affect the capacity of blood to carry oxygen throughout the body. Nitrates contaminate underground water. Nitrates come from fertilizer, animal waste products, decaying plant matter, septic tanks, etc.
