UPGRADED PARKING EQUIPMENT UPDATE

New equipment is being installed at the city's parking structures to create an expedited easy-in, easy-out experience for all parkers. Equipment and software by TIBA Solutions provides cloud-based kiosks with user-friendly, contactless entry and convenient payment options.

The following is an estimated timeline for parking equipment upgrades:

Chester Street Garage: January 2023 (complete)

Pierce Street Garage: January-February 2023 (complete)

Peabody Street Garage: February 2023 (complete)

Park Street Garage: March 2023

N. Old Woodward Garage: March 2023

Transient parkers (those without a monthly parking pass) may enter and exit using a credit card, or they may pull a ticket at entry and scan the ticket upon exiting. As always, parkers will enjoy two hours free in all structures.

The new system offers multiple forms of payment, such as debit/credit card (insert or tap to pay), Apple Pay and Google Pay. In the near future, the equipment will also integrate with the ParkMobile app. Monthly parking pass holders will have the option to access the structures by scanning a new parking pass, or use the TIBA Mobile Access App.

Reminder To Lock Your Vehicles

The City of Birmingham and surrounding communities have recently seen an increase in crimes involving unlocked vehicles, often with the vehicle keys left inside As a result, there has been a rise in reports of items being stolen from inside these unlocked vehicles and vehicles being stolen Criminals will always take advantage of an easy opportunity.

Please remember to lock your vehicle doors, remove any valuables including your keys and report any suspicious activity to the police department immediately The Birmingham Police Department values our community partnerships and together we can work to reduce, deter and protect against criminal behavior.

Free In Home Safety Evaluation From The Birmingham Fire Department

The Birmingham Fire Department is continuing its dedication to Community Risk Reduction (CRR) by offering a free in home safety evaluation. These home safety evaluations are to make sure all smoke detectors, explosive gas alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are in proper working order, are within the usage date, and also to ensure they are installed properly in the best location for your safety The Birmingham Fire Department has free smoke and CO detectors available for those who are in need of assistance Home safety evaluations are offered to any Birmingham resident. GENERAL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 7, 2023

Birmingham will hold a General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. At this time, four Birmingham Commissioner positions for a 4 year term and three Birmingham Library Board positions for a 4 year term will be on this ballot. The petition and candidate filing deadline for the November 7, 2023 General Election is 4 p.m. on July 25, 2023. Hometown Parade And Party

SUNDAY, MAY 21 STARTING AT 1 P.M.

Planning is picking up steam for the 2023 Celebrate Birmingham Hometown Parade on Sunday, May 21 at 1 p.m. Community groups, local businesses, dance teams, scout troops, children and adults of all ages are encouraged to march in this year's parade. It’s a great opportunity to spotlight your group!

Sponsors are welcome to join in the 2023 festivities. Being a sponsor is another way for a business, group, organization or individual to be recognized as part of this family-friendly event, which reflects the hometown feel of Birmingham.

Final Master Plan Schedule Of Review

Join the Planning Board on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Commission room, as they discuss the third and final draft of the Citywide Master Plan for 2040. At this meeting, they will hold a public hearing and discuss a recommendation to the City Commission for adoption.

Members of the community are encouraged to review and submit feedback regarding the final draft of the ghamplan.com. The community may visit the site to submit comments directly to the consultant team, and also submit comments directly to the Planning Division to be placed in the next available Planning Board agenda.

Information about how to participate in upcoming Planning Board meetings can be found on the City's website at www.bhamgov.org/participate. In person attendees should access City Hall through the Police Department lobby entrance on Pierce Street. The community may also watch many city meetings on the local cable access channel and view live streaming information at www.bhamgov.org/watch.

Yard Waste Collection Begins Early April

Yard waste collection will resume during the week of April 3. Only the kraft-style paper bags are acceptable, or trash containers with a "Yard Waste" decal sticker attached (no plastic bags).
