Mallorca’s decorated ‘Avenidas’ in Palma offer wonderful shopping opportunities in pleasant temperatures of 22 degrees centigrade, and a variety of Christmas markets with venues ranging from a vineyard to a marina. Christmas market at Castell Miquel in Alaró 3rd – 4th December 2016 The Castell Miquel winery in Alaró is not only a good place to go to taste its award-winning rosé, its Christmas Market at the beginning of December is also worth a visit. Here visitors can expect to find handicrafts, organic cosmetics, culinary delicacies and home-made mulled wine, all with views over the vineyards.

Dezember 2016 Das Weingut Castell Miquel in Alaró ist nicht nur für eine Verkostung des vielfach prämierten Rosé des Hauses eine gute Adresse, auch der Weihnachtsmarkt Anfang Dezember ist die Fahrt hierher wert. Christmas markets in Puerto Portals and Palma 6th December 2016 – 6th January 2017 The attractive Christmas market in Puerto Portals opens on 6th December with the St Nicholas Parade and is open every afternoon until 6th January, following the Three Kings Parade on 5th. The Christmas market at Nuevo Pueblo Español, which runs for a few days in mid-December, is also to be recommended.

Two world-class ballets return to the Auditorium Palma 3rd and 4th January 2017 On 3rd January at 9pm, the Moscow Ballet will be performing Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ in its original version at the Auditorium on Paseo Maritimo in Palma.

The story of the bewitched swan princess who can only be released from her enchantment by true love is internationally renowned. On 4th January at 7pm it will perform ‘The Nutcracker’, a traditional ballet for this time of year as it tells the story of a little girl who has a dream about the present she received for Christmas.

3. und 4. Januar 2017 Am 3. Januar um 21 Uhr zeigt das Moskauer Staatsballett im Auditorium auf dem Paseo Maritimo in Palma eine Aufführung von Tschaikowskis „Schwanensee” in der Originalfassung. Die Sage von der verzauberten Schwanenprinzessin, die nur durch wahre Liebe erlöst werden kann, ist weltbekannt. Am 4. Januar um 19 Uhr wird dort „Der Nussknacker” gezeigt, ein Klassiker um diese Jahreszeit, denn hier wird die Geschichte von einem Mädchen erzählt, das von seinem Weihnachtsgeschenk träumt.

6th January 2017 The public holiday in Mallorca of ‘Epifania del Señor’ or ‘El Dia de los Reyes Magos’ is heralded on the evening of 5th January by a procession of the Three Kings, who bring presents for children. It is not just Palma alone that celebrates with a large parade through the city centre, the parades in Esporles and Puerto Portals are equally worth seeing, particularly for the little ones.

16th January 2017 On the evening before ‘Sant Antoni’ (a local holiday to celebrate the patron saint of animals) many towns and villages light bonfires and demons (dimonis) dance through the narrow streets on ‘correfocs’ (fire runs). At the end, St Anthony banishes the bad spirits. On 17th January, many churches hold services at which they bless animals. Farmers bring cows, goats and sheep, and children bring their dogs, cats and hamsters. The first festival of ‘Sant Antoni’ is said to have taken place in Sa Pobla in 1365.

8th – 9th February 2017 Sa Rua and Sa Rueta are two street carnivals that take place over a weekend in Palma de Mallorca with a procession of floats and parties of people, all in fancy dress. Sa Rueta on Saturday is the children’s parade. Sa Rua for adults is held on the Sunday. There are prizes for the best costumes and the procession will march down Avendida Jaime III onto Passeig del Born, then on to Plaza Joan Carles and Carrer Unió. The parade in Esporles is smaller and more traditional.

16. Januar 2017 In Palma und vielen weiteren Ortschaften werden am Vorabend von „Sant Antoni” (nationaler Feiertag zu Ehren von Sankt Antonius, dem Schutzpatron der Haus- und Nutztiere) Fogeros gezündet und Dimonis tanzen beim Correfoc durch die Gassen.

Zum Schluss vertreibt der Heilige Antonius die bösen Mächte. Am 17. Januar finden in vielen Kirchen Tiersegnungen statt.

Bauern führen Kühe, Ziegen und Schafe vor, Kinder bringen ihre Hunde, Katzen oder Goldhamster. Das erste Antoniusfest soll 1365 in Sa Pobla stattgefunden haben.

8. – 9. Februar 2017 Sa Rua und Sa Rueta sind zwei große Karnevalsumzüge, die am Wochenende in Palma de Mallorca stattfinden. Sa Rueta am Samstag ist die Kostümparade für Kinder. Sa Rua für die Erwachsenen wird am Sonntag zu sehen sein. Bei beiden werden Preise für das beste Kostüm vergeben, die Umzüge gehen entlang der Avenida Jaime III zum Passeig del Born und weiter zur Plaza Joan Carles und zur Carrer Unió. Kleiner und traditioneller ist der Umzug in Esporles.

6. Januar 2017 Auf Mallorca ein Feiertag: Epifania del Señor oder, volksnäher, El Dia de los Reyes Magos, wird am Vorabend, dem 5. Januar, mit einem Umzug der Heiligen Drei Könige eingeläutet, die den Kindern Geschenke bringen. Nicht nur Palma feiert mit einer großen Parade durch die Innenstadt, auch in Esporles oder in Puerto Portals sind die Paraden sehenswert, besonders für die Kleinen.

In November Michelin-starred chef Fernando P. Arellano opened Baiben in Puerto Portals, in premises formerly occupied by restaurant Tristán. He also runs the restaurants Zaranda and Olivera at Hotel Castell Son Claret in Calvià. With its excellent location in Puerto Portals marina and the Michelin-starred cuisine of Gerhard Schwaiger (now at Xino’s in Son Moix), Tristán had the reputation of one of the finest restaurants on the Island.

Anyone interested in jewellery design will have noticed a recent change in trends, with futuristic design, experimental materials and sustainability as central themes. Neutral is the new buzz word, and the boundary between the looks for men and women is blurred.

The future potential of the sector lies in perfectly crafted collections that also reflect ecological thinking. Here, synthetically-grown crystals represent the state of the art. And Dietmar Beermann, too, works with these new stones for his label art Safire. DELUXE editor Birgit Unger met him at the Sant Francesc Hotel in Palma to discuss current fashion trends, which the master goldsmith translates into elegant, fashionable pieces of jewellery. Statement necklaces worn with a simple sweater, and bracelets worn over shirt sleeves.

Herr Beermann, to what extent does your current jewellery collection reflect the season’s fashion trends?

First of all, the fashion of the season dictates the colour of the stones in the art Safire collection. Now we are into winter, some of our designs with two different coloured stones, like the double ring with pink and rosé stones in the initial design, are now available in blue and white. We don’t change the design, we change the colours. I get my inspiration from the natural world. One of my earlier projects was called autumn symphony. Using natural colours I created a design using various brown and orange shades, and with art Safire I can continue this theme, only in a more intensive way. The collection is timeless, we don’t follow trends, we make them. We can however match the colours of the stones to what is currently in fashion. At the moment we have a range of 14 colours, but we are in the process of expanding it. That is quite costly. Right now there are 45 different coloured stones on the market, so

if a customer is looking for a particular colour to match a Dirndl or an evening dress, for example, we can order a stone of just the right colour. This takes about two weeks, but the price will be the same. That is the advantage over natural gemstones. One chooses jewellery from art Safire purely by one’s personal colour preferences.

How do you see your customers? Is there a difference between women that wear art Safire and the more traditional ‘It’s a Be’ purchaser?

There is no difference at all, my circle of customers remains exactly the same. I sold my first art Safire designs to long-standing customers of ‘It’s a Be’, who usually go for more traditional pieces. Now, after nearly three years, our customers know that they can choose the colour of their jewellery to match their wardrobe. With real gems that is impossible. These ladies do not in any way lose quality, value or highly skilled crafts-

diamonds in the traditional way it would cost 300,000 euros. We offer it for considerably less. The bangle is based on a ring that we have sold very successfully over the past few months. Two new wide designs are currently being developed with large stones whose colours can be chosen individually. What is really great is that in three years’ time you will be able to order a ring to match, and the colour will be exactly the same. Christmas is fast approaching and my family say I’m like one of Santa’s little helpers. I love this time of year, it reminds me of my childhood and this is just the feeling I want to give to my collection.

I have had a woman with tears in her eyes when she tried on her finished piece for the first time. I find it very moving when I think this piece of jewellery will still be there when I am long gone.

Kim Kardashian wears gold chains with pendants in two different lengths, one on top of the other. Is this going to become a mega trend?

We actually made something like this for a customer 25 years ago. It isn’t a new look, a stylist has just put it on a celebrity. I have been in the business for almost forty years and I know that we don’t often get requests for pieces like that. But we do have a chain with a cross pendant in our collection. manship. Art Safire can also readily satisfy the desire for natural stones. With every one of our designs we can exchange a synthetic gem for a real one. According to the budget.

Coco Chanel loved pearls. You don’t only have the traditional round, white ones, but natural pearls as well. Where do these come from?

I recently looked at the current Coco Chanel jewellery collection. Compared to it our pieces are of very high quality. We have cultured pearls, Tahiti pearls and asymmetric baroque pearls, because they all have their own character. At a fair I recently saw pearls without a

nucleus. They were very light and very interesting. We rarely sell traditional round pearls today. We can make pieces with them on request, but that isn’t part of our core business.

I use pearls to hang things on. At the heart of the collection is the art Safire centre piece in which the stones can even be changed courtesy of a special fastening.

Bangles are very popular at the moment, worn over your shirt or pullover sleeves. What is there for the fashionista in your collection?

We currently have a bangle and a bracelet in the collection. If the bracelet was set with

What do you have on offer?

We have about twenty designs at present and they are really eye-catching. This is confirmed by my customers. “People are noticing my jewellery for the first time,” they tell me after an event where they have received a lot of comments. You can choose a twisted cord to hang your stones on, one that sits close to your neck, or natural pearls or multi-stranded necklaces in gold and platinum. The coloured stones come in an oval or teardrop shape, surrounded by diamonds. These are around 35mm in size. If we were to use real gemstones here, we would be talking in the region of 100,000 euros.

Wedding rings have always been rather understated, will couples be able to find anything suitable in your collection?

We make wedding rings of course, but only to individual designs. When a couple come to me, we select the personal components together. We don’t show them any ready-made designs, but come up with a design that fits the clients’ brief, with stones too if they like, just like traditional British wedding rings.

You will shortly be adding high-quality watches to your collection, what designs have you chosen?

In summer 2017 we will be presenting a chronograph for men and women at the Diamonds Golf Trophy in Mallorca. I don’t want to give too much away, but what I can say is that you will immediately recognise it as part of the art Safire collection as we are making great use of colour. One seldom sees watches with such large stones. And here, too, customers will be able to select many of the individual details. The movement is made by a very well-known German company. We have 4 criteria to meet. They have to be masterful, tailor-made, fashionable and modern. Just like all art Safire pieces.

At the moment art Safire is not available online or from jewellers. Where can potential customers see the current collection?

At present we are working with six representatives in Mallorca, Munich, Stuttgart and the USA. We have recently added Moscow, and we are very much looking forward to working with fashion label Khan, they are currently showing art Safire at Moscow Fashion week.

These ladies organise private, very elegant events on a small scale to showcase our pieces. In Puerto Andratx, Melati has part of the collection in Boutique Xtra Moda. We are also considering opening our own art Safire shops in cities around the world, and are currently in negotiations. We have put our show catalogue on our website art-safire.net.

DELUXE-Herausgeberin Birgit Unger traf den Goldschmiedemeister im Sant Francesc Hotel in Palma zum Gespräch über aktuelle Modetrends, die er in elegante wie modische Schmuckstücke übersetzt. Es kommt die Statement-Kette zum Basic Sweater, und Armreifen werden jetzt über dem Hemd getragen.

Herr Beermann, inwieweit orientiert sich Ihre aktuelle Schmuckkollektion an den Modetrends der Saison?

In erster Linie lässt sich die art Safire Kollektion über die Farbe der Steine auf die Mode der Saison abstimmen. Wir haben jetzt Winter, einige unserer Modelle mit zwei verschiedenfarbigen Steinen, wie ein Doppelring, der als Basic-Modell in Pink und Rosé gestaltet war, erscheinen gerade neu in Blau und Weiß. Wir wechseln nicht das Modell, wir wechseln die Farben. Meine Inspirationen stammen aus der Natur. Eines meiner früheren Projekte nannte sich Herbstsinfonie. In Anlehnung an Naturtöne hatte ich ein Modell mit diversen Braun- und Orangetönen gestaltet, dieses Thema kann ich mit art Safire noch intensivieren. Die Kollektion ist zeitlos, wir orientieren uns nicht an Trends, wir machen sie. Wir können aber die Farben der Steine an die Mode anpassen. Derzeit bieten wir eine Range von 14 Tönen an, aber wir sind dabei, sie zu erweitern. Das ist recht kostspielig. Insgesamt sind derzeit 45 Steinfarben auf dem Markt, wenn eine Kundin also eine ganz spezielle Farbe sucht, zu einem Dirndl oder einer Abendrobe, dann können wir den passend farbigen Stein bestellen. Das dauert etwa zwei Wochen. Der Preis wird sich dadurch nicht ändern. Das ist ein Vorteil gegenüber natürlich gewachsenen Steinen. Schmuck von art Safire wählt man rein nach dem persönlichen Bezug zur Farbe aus.

Wie sehen Sie Ihre Kundinnen? Gibt es Unterschiede zwischen Damen, die art Safire tragen, und der klassischen „It´s a Be”-Käuferin?

Es gibt keinen Unterschied, der Kundenkreis bleibt genau der gleiche. Die ersten Modelle von art Safire habe ich an langjährige Kundinnen unseres Labels „It’s a Be” verkauft, die eher im klassischen Bereich unterwegs sind. Nach knapp drei Jahren wissen unsere Kundinnen, dass sie die Farbe ihres Schmucks nach ihrem Kleiderschrank wählen können. Bei Juwelen ist das unmöglich. Auf Qualität, auf

Wertigkeit und perfektes Handwerk müssen die Damen nicht verzichten. art Safire entspricht auch gerne dem Wunsch nach dem natürlich gewachsenen Stein. Bei jedem unserer Modelle sind wir in der Lage, den künstlichen gegen einen natürlichen zu tauschen. Je nach Budget.

Bereits Coco Chanel liebte Perlen, Sie zeigen nicht den Klassiker in Rund und Weiß, sondern auch natürliche Perlen. Woher stammt diese Ware?

Kürzlich habe ich die aktuelle ModeschmuckKollektion von Coco Chanel gesehen. Unsere Modelle sind dagegen sehr hochwertig. Wir zeigen Zuchtperlen, Tahiti-Perlen und asymmetrische Barock-Perlen, weil jede einen eigenen Charakter hat. Auf einer Messe habe ich kürzlich Perlen ohne Kern gesehen, sehr leicht, sehr interessant. Die klassische runde Perle verkauft sich heute selten. Wir können das auf Wunsch fertigen, aber das ist nicht unser zentrales Thema. Für mich haben Perlen lediglich eine Trägerfunktion. Im Vordergrund steht das art Safire Mittelteil, die gefassten Steine lassen sich durch einen besonderen Verschluss sogar wechseln.

Armreifen sind gerade sehr gefragt. Man trägt sie neu über dem Hemd oder dem Pullover.

Was findet die Fashionista in Ihrer Kollektion?

Wir zeigen derzeit einen Armreif und ein Armband in der Kollektion. Das Armband würde traditionell mit Brillanten gefertigt 300.000 Euro kosten. Bei uns ist es deutlich günstiger.

Der Armreif wurde in Anlehnung an einen Ring gestaltet, den wir in den letzten Monaten sehr erfolgreich verkauft haben. Zwei neue breite Modelle sind in Arbeit mit großen art Safire Steinen, die sich farblich individuell wählen lassen. Das ist natürlich toll, dass man dann auch in drei Jahren den passenden Ring dazu noch farblich passend nachbestellen kann. Die Adventszeit steht vor der Tür und meine Familie sagt mir nach, ich sei ein Weihnachtselch. Ich liebe diese Zeit, sie erinnert mich an meine

Kindheit, und genau dieses Gefühl bringe ich in meine Kollektion ein. Es passiert, dass einer Dame die Tränen in den Augen stehen, wenn sie ihr Modell zum ersten Mal fertig anlegt.

Das berührt mich natürlich, wenn ich daran denke, dass es dieses Modell noch geben wird, wenn ich einmal nicht mehr da bin.

Kim Kardashian trägt zwei verschieden lange Goldketten mit Anhängern übereinander, könnte das ein Mega-Trend werden?

Diese Idee haben wir schon vor 25 Jahren auf Kundenwunsch verwirklicht. Das ist kein neuer Look, das wurde von einem Stylisten nur wieder einmal an einer Prominenten gezeigt. Da ich fast vierzig Jahre im Geschäft bin, weiß ich, dass Anfragen dieser Art gar nicht so häufig sind. Wir haben aber eine Kette mit Kreuzanhänger im Programm. Wir fertigen die klassischen Größen kaum an, bei uns heißt es: Think big.

Die britische Vogue erklärte die Power Necklace zum Mode-Statement der Saison. Bei art Safire findet man diese aussagekräftigen Halsketten. Was bieten Sie an?

Wir zeigen etwa zwanzig Modelle im Moment, und die fallen wirklich auf. Meine Kundinnen bestätigen mir das. „Zum ersten Mal fällt mein Schmuck auf“, erzählen sie mir dann nach einem Event, auf dem sie häufig angesprochen wurden. Als Trägerketten für die Schmucksteine kann man eine gedrehte Schnur wählen, die halsnah liegt, es gibt Naturperlen oder einen mehrreihigen Halsreif in Gold oder Platin. Die farbigen Steine sind oval oder tropfenförmig und mit Brillanten umrandet. Wir bewegen uns da um 35 mm in der Größe.

Würde man hier natürliche Steine benutzen, bewegt man sich locker im Bereich von 100.000 Euro.

Eheringe sind von jeher eher Understatement,

finden Paare bei Ihnen etwas Passendes?

Eheringe fertigen wir natürlich auch, aber nur individuelle Designs. Wenn ein Ehepaar zu mir kommt, dann suchen wir gemeinsam persönliche Komponenten. Wir zeigen keine vorgefertigten Modelle, sondern entwickeln das Design nach den Wünschen der Kunden, gerne auch mit Stein, wie man es bei traditionellen britischen Hochzeitsringen sieht.

Sie werden demnächst Ihr Sortiment um wertige Uhren erweitern, für welches Design haben Sie sich entschieden?

Wir werden zur Diamonds Golf Trophy im Sommer 2017 auf Mallorca einen Chronographen für Damen und für Herren vorstellen.

Allzu viel möchte ich noch nicht verraten. Man wird sofort sehen, dass die Uhren zur art Safire Kollektion gehören, da wir sehr viel mit Farbe spielen. Man sieht nur selten Uhren mit so großen Steinen. Auch hier hat der Kunde die Möglichkeit, viele Details individuell zu wählen. Das Werk ist sehr bekannt, es wird in Deutschland gebaut. Wir arbeiten nach den Kriterien der 4 Ms: made in Germany, meisterhaft, maßgeschneidert und modern. Wie für alle Modelle von art Safire.

Zurzeit kann man art Safire weder online noch beim Juwelier beziehen. Wo kann die Kundin die aktuelle Kollektion sehen?

Zurzeit arbeiten wir mit sechs Repräsentantinnen auf Mallorca, in München, Stuttgart und in den Vereinigten Staaten. Moskau ist kürzlich neu dazugekommen, wir freuen uns sehr auf die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Modelabel Khan, das gerade auf der Moskau Fashion Week art Safire vorstellt. Die Damen veranstalten private Showcases, sehr elegant, auf denen die Stücke im kleinen Rahmen gezeigt werden. In Puerto Andratx zeigt Melati Feldberg Amiruddin in der Boutique X-tra Moda einen Teil der Kollektion. Wir denken auch an eigene art Safire Shops in Metropolen weltweit, wir führen schon Gespräche. “Entertaining people is an honourable profession” Esther Schweins is one of many actors who live in Mallorca between engagements. She made her breakthrough in the 1990s in the Saturday night comedy series on RTL. Since then she has appeared in numerous TV films and movies. She and her Mallorquin partner have made the Island their permanent home with their two children.

The 47 year old, who embraces the ambivalence of both glamour and being down-to-earth, is currently lending her expertise to the new Stagepoint project in ParcBIT. Escola Global is an international school with a forward-thinking educational ethos that focuses on the healthy, ecological balance between man and nature.

In October 2016 it opened a Saturday school offering a range of performance-based classes including acting, musical theatre and dance. Esther Schweins is one of the team of experienced artists and teachers responsible for developing the curriculum.

In DELUXE she talks about what Stagepoint has to offer.

Frau Schweins, for eight years Escola Global has been offering an alternative to the education offered by Mallorquin and British schools on the Island. What do you like about the curriculum of this school?

Actually the curriculum does not differ significantly from that of the other schools on the Island. The difference lies in the project-based learning using holistic principles and also double monitoring, i.e. two teachers per class. All the standard subjects are taught, but each subject then flows into other disciplines. The classrooms are open and their large windows allow the students to see into other rooms. It is lovely to see how happy the children clearly feel.

Students at Escola Global come from almost thirty different nations and the teaching staff are also very international. Can you see advantages in this type of education over that in schools in Germany?

You can’t really compare schools in Germany with local ones here. The challenges of an international school are quite different.

Educational institutions must be fair to them all

and try to strengthen the multinational mix here, not only of students, but of teachers too.

Here they are taught in three languages, which of course prepares them ideally for life in today’s society.

Escola Global’s new premises in ParcBIT opened up the opportunity to offer classes at weekends too. In addition to acting, music and dance, Stagepoint also teaches technical skills like operating a sound studio or a new 3-D programme. What does the curriculum look like?

The proximity of the film studio meant that Escola Global was onto a winner. It is a real TV and film studio with props stores, wardrobe, make-up room and technical consoles. We can make use of all of these facilities for our workshops. Everything you might need later in your professional career can be experienced there on site. Every job, whether acting, voice-overs, musician, or soundman for stage, theatre or film, can be taught there in a real environment.

Tom Tykwer used these premises in 2011 to film some of the scenes in Cloud Atlas with Halle Berry and Tom Hanks. It is still the most expensive German film ever made.

Your acting and directing work is mainly in Germany. Will you yourself be teaching at the Stagepoint Academy?

I would really love to film something here in the future. The studio is really great, and in no way inferior to the studio in Babelsberg. I will take some workshops on a Saturday morning and initially work with the beginners, teaching them how to act in front of the camera. Other courses will be advertised on the Stagepoint Facebook page.

In addition to weekend courses, a programme is being planned for the three-month Spanish summer holiday. Who can enrol on this?

In the future Stagepoint wants to open as a venue for out-of-school programmes for children and teenagers who spend their long summer holidays in Mallorca. We are planning to set up our own film production company for fictional projects, or for documentaries and storytelling. There you will be able to learn everything about making films.

Your children are too still young to be thinking about their future careers, but if they wanted to pursue a career in acting or directing, what advice would you give them?

My children accompanied me to all my film shoots until they reached school age, and they are very film oriented. They like to talk about the various jobs on set and they discuss which one appeals to them the most. If they actually decide in the future to go down that road, then

I would advise them to work their way through all the disciplines. I myself went to drama school where I was taught directing, props, wardrobe and the technical side of things alongside acting, and in this respect I always considered myself to be a creative artist, but I always enjoyed the transparency of the process because you can use the range of what you have learned and go in any direction. Our lives are now so governed by the media that I would always support my children if they wanted to become a performing artist or follow a related career. Being sentimental I would say that entertaining people is an honourable profession.

You are currently filming in Germany. Do you have any projects lined up for 2017 that you can tell us about?

I will certainly be appearing in Germany, I am at present planning a reading tour from March onwards where with Hanns Zischler I will be reading an exchange of letters, accompanied by a pianist playing Tchaikovsky. And of course I want so spend as much time as possible in Mallorca with my children.

Saturday SeSSionS at Stagepoint usually start with teamwork exercises and games led by the singing, drama and dance specialists. Then the groups are split up and trained in all 3 disciplines. The main goal is to develop all-round artists who are ready for any international stage. The use of cameras during sessions allows the children to get used to performing for the camera and it also teaches them how to handle the camera to film each other, mainly to experience performances from behind the camera.

Was gefällt Ihnen an dem Lehrplan der Schule?

Eigentlich unterscheidet sich der Lehrplan nicht wesentlich von dem anderer Schulen auf der Insel. Der Unterschied ist wohl, dass hier sehr projektbezogen gearbeitet wird nach dem holistischen Prinzip mit Double Monitoring, also mit zwei Lehrern pro Klasse. Alle gängigen Fächer werden unterrichtet, aber jedes Fach diffundiert in andere Wissensgebiete. Die Klassenräume sind offen gehalten und lassen mit viel Glas den Blick in andere Räume zu. Es ist schön zu sehen, wie wohl sich die Kinder damit fühlen.

Die Schüler der Escola Global setzen sich aus fast dreißig verschiedenen Nationen zusammen, auch die Lehrerschaft ist international besetzt. Sehen Sie hier Vorteile bei der Ausbildung im Vergleich zu einer Schule in Deutschland?

Man kann die Schulen in Deutschland eigentlich nicht mit den hiesigen vergleichen. Die Anforderungen an eine internationale Schule

sind ganz anderes. Mallorca ist ein Melting Pot an Nationalitäten, denen die Lehranstalten gerecht werden müssen und die die Vielnationalität nicht nur der Schüler, sondern auch der Lehrer in diesem Land zu stärken versuchen. Hier wird dreisprachig unterrichtet, das bereitet natürlich ideal auf das Leben in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft vor.

Mit den neuen Räumlichkeiten der Escola Global in ParcBIT bot sich die Gelegenheit, auch Wochenendprogramme anzubieten.

Stagepoint soll nun neben Schauspiel, Musik und Tanz auch technische Kenntnisse vermitteln wie die Bedienung eines Tonstudios oder neuer 3-D-Programme. Wie setzt sich der Lehrplan zusammen?

Die Nachbarschaft des Filmstudios war für die Escola Global ein Elfmeter. Es ist ein reales Film- und Fernsehstudio mit Requisitenräumen, Garderoben, Maske und Technikplätzen. Alle diese Möglichkeiten kann man nutzen für die Workshops. Was später einmal im professionellen Rahmen gebraucht wird, ist dort vor Ort erlebbar. Jeder Beruf, ob Schauspieler, Synchronsprecher, Musiker oder Tonmann für Bühne, Theater oder Film kann gelehrt werden in einem realen Umfeld. In diesen Räumlichkeiten hatte Tom Tykwer 2011 für Cloud Atlas einige Szenen mit Halle Berry und Tom Hanks gedreht. Der Film gilt bis heute als teuerster deutscher Film, der jemals gedreht wurde.

Sie arbeiten überwiegend in Deutschland für Ihre Engagements als Schauspielerin und

Regisseurin. Werden Sie auch selbst an der Stagepoint-Akademie unterrichten?

Es würde mich sogar reizen, hier in Zukunft selbst zu drehen. Das Studio ist wirklich toll, das muss sich selbst vor Babelsberg nicht verstecken. Ich werde dort samstags Workshops geben und zunächst mit den Anfängern arbeiten, denen ich „Acting in front of the camera” beibringen möchte. Weitere Kurse finden sich dann später auf der Facebook-Seite von Stagepoint.

Neben den Wochenendkursen sind auch Programme während der drei Monate dauernden Sommerferien in Spanien in Planung. Wer kann sich hier einschreiben?

In Zukunft möchte Stagepoint sich öffnen und auch ein Ort für außerschulische Programme sein, an denen sich Kinder und Jugendliche, die auf Mallorca ihren Urlaub verbringen, einschreiben können während der großen Ferien.

Wir planen eine eigene Filmproduktion für fiktionale Projekte oder für Dokumentationen und Storytelling. Man wird dort alles rund ums Filmemachen lernen können.

Ihre Kinder denken noch nicht an die Berufswahl, aber wenn sie eine Karriere im Bereich Schauspiel oder Regie anstreben würden, wozu würden Sie ihnen raten?

Meine Kinder haben mich bis zu ihrer Einschulung auf allen Drehreisen begleitet und sind tatsächlich sehr filmaffin. Sie sprechen gerne über die verschiedenen Berufe am Set und diskutieren, welcher Beruf ihnen am besten

gefallen würde. Wenn sie letztlich eines Tages diesen Weg wirklich einschlagen, würde ich ihnen raten, erst einmal alle Abteilungen zu durchlaufen. Ich selbst war an einer Schauspielschule, an der man Regie, Requisite, Garderobe und Technik neben der Schauspielausbildung unterrichtete, und insofern war ich zwar kreative Künstlerin, aber ich habe auch immer die Transparenz des Prozesses sehr genossen, weil man so die Vielfalt an Konsequenzen nutzen und auch alle Wege gehen kann. Wir leben so medial, dass ich immer befürworten würde, wenn meine Kinder als Performing Artist oder in einem verwandten Beruf tätig werden möchten. Ganz sentimental würde ich sagen: Menschen zu unterhalten, ist ein ehrbarer Beruf.

Sie sind gerade in Deutschland für einen Dreh.

Stehen berufliche Projekte für 2017 an, über die Sie schon sprechen können?

Ich werde mit Sicherheit in Deutschland zu sehen sein, ich bereite gerade eine Lesereise ab März vor und lese dort mit Hanns Zischler einen Briefwechsel mit Tschaikowski zu Pianobegleitung. Und natürlich möchte ich auch viel auf Mallorca sein, um Zeit mit meinen Kindern zu verbringen.

Später teilen sich die Gruppen auf und trainieren die einzelnen Disziplinen. Oberstes Ziel ist es, Künstler auszubilden, die den Anforderungen internationaler Bühnen gerecht werden. Der Mitschnitt der Kurse soll die Kinder nicht nur daran gewöhnen, vor der Kamera zu agieren, sondern auch, sie zu bedienen, indem ihnen Technik und Regie in der Praxis nähergebracht werden.

ATP CHAMPIONS TOUR EVENT BROUGHT THE ELITE TO PALMA DE MALLORCA At the end of October, Palma Sport & Tennis Club played host to the Legend’s Cup. The four-day event saw Carlos Moyá, Mats Wilander, Carl-Uwe Steeb, Àlex Corretja, Henri Leconte, Tim Henman, Mansour Bahrami and Mikael Pernfors competing not only on the tennis court.

The players also held a swimming competition in the pool of the tennis complex wearing comic bathing costumes, which provided yet more entertainment.

She opened this year’s Oktoberfest at the Megapark together with the ‘King of Mallorca’, Jürgen Drews, who also likes to drop into the small bay for a spot of lunch.

Cala Cap Falcó is well known for its fish dishes, snacks and chill-out music. In high season it holds parties every two weeks.

“It’s a good example of why man does not have to interfere with nature” If you ask the CEO of one of Germany’s most successful mediumsized enterprises what projects he is currently involved with, the answer is a wide-ranging one. For Professor Michael A. Popp the focus is on the European launch of a new product from Bionorica’s bestselling Sinupret family, and at his Castell Miquel winery in Alaró the team is working on local products with an organic label.

His research in the field of phytopharmaceuticals has been widely recognised – most recently he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2016 for his commitment to sustainable business practices and his voluntary work. It has been a record year for Bionorica overall. The company, based in Neumarkt, Oberpfalz recorded a net turnover of 244.3 million euros in 2015, an increase of

5.1 percent compared to the previous year. Despite the depreciation of the Russian rouble, the company managed to maintain its lead in its second most important market after Germany.

“We want to grow still further,” says Popp. Deluxe met the entrepreneur at Sa Canova, his event finca between Llubi and Sa Pobla, to talk about agriculture, fair competition and running your own company.

Professor Popp, following a change in your team, your Castell Miquel winery launched in 2015 a range of products that includes jams, olive oil and almonds. How does this tie in with Bionorica?

Our focus is on quality. We were sure it would sell well as I know from my own personal experience that at Christmas you often receive gifts that you never use. I wanted to produce a really good wine so that we always had a great present to give our clients. That is how I ended up with my own vineyard. Our doctors and pharmacists then started to buy the wine themselves and now they take the majority of what we produce. We are the market leader in herbal medicines in Russia and Ukraine, and our wine goes there too. At Finca Sa Canova there is a demonstration pharmacy where we train phyto-pharmacists. Lots of groups visit us, so I don’t need to worry about sales of our wine. We also produce herbal salt and almonds as promotional gifts, it is all part of the overall marketing concept of Bionorica.

And now we have just made our own marmalade as I hated the idea of letting 14 tonnes of oranges go to waste. So I asked my cook whether he could make marmalade from them. My mother came for the tastings and now she no longer makes her own. That is really something. This year we made 35,000 jars of marmalade, and my marketing team snapped them up straight away. Mallorca is very good for my wine because a lot of Germans live here. Nikki Beach bowed to pressure from German guests asking for my wine and finally agreed to serve it. The problem is land, which is really expensive. So farming is almost not worth it here. If you need to buy extra land it is very expensive as it’s nearly all sold for development. If it is larger than three hectares it can usually be built on. I would really like to buy some more land, but at a sensible price. If it comes to currency reform, then agriculture is the right business to be in. People will always need to eat.

Is Russia still the second most important market for your pharmaceuticals despite the fall in the rouble?

We are the market leader in herbal medicines in Russia, we sell almost as many units there as we do in Germany. Our strategy for coping with the fall in the rouble is to grin and bear it.

That is the good thing about owning a company yourself. You are free to make your own decisions. It all has a lot to do with the price of oil and things will get back to normal again.

In addition to its wine tastings and tours of the production facilities, from late summer 2017 Castell Miquel will be offering the chance to experience the grape harvest as a worker. Bionorica extracts S.L. has been cultivating medicinal plants on 100 hectares of land in Mallorca since 1995. Do you see any potential for growth for young companies in this field?

My basic attitude to Mallorca is that there is money to be made here, which is what many Germans dream of. There are endless business opportunities as German quality, which many people are looking for is hard to find. I fly in my joiners from Germany. But Mallorca is no land of Cockaigne. Quite the opposite. Many expect it to be, and fail. You have to deal with difficulties that you don’t expect. Ingredients are not readily available and so they are expensive. We went through phases at the vineyard when we didn’t know which way it would go. Goods were delivered that were unusable, but the bills were still paid as the supplier was a local. It is a very difficult process.

What are the challenges of working with the Spanish authorities?

In Spain it is even more important than in Germany to get to know locals you can trust and who are well connected. The market here is subject to different laws. You have to look for a way through local politics, in my case with the mayors in Sa Pobla and Alaró. And naturally you ought to support local clubs and associations. You have to integrate. I am lucky that the family who grew up on my finca and who now run Es Verger treat me as one of the family. So I have met the right people who move in the right circles. I have developed a genuine friendship with the former minister for agriculture. But it is not easy to come to Mallorca and

build up a business that will rapidly give you a living. Particularly if it is a vineyard. You need ten years of patience until you produce a good wine. Of course that is only the case if you come from Germany. In Mallorca the locals clearly have the competitive edge as they have all known each other since they were at school and they can make life hard for you, and they do. Sometimes the gloves come off and it takes you completely by surprise. My motto has always been – live and let live.

Do you have plans for further projects in Mallorca?

On the agricultural side we will definitely continue to expand the cultivation of our medicinal plants because we have an increasing need for the plants that grow here. We have been able to significantly optimise our cost structure.

We export our wine, jam and almonds and we are always coming up with new products.

Mediterranean cuisine is really fashionable at the moment. My customers love the fact they can buy organic almonds from here and also our olive oil.

Bionorica’s headquarters in Neumarkt, Oberpfalz is one of the most sustainable buildings in the world. Are there any of the technologies in use there that have wider application?

We collect rainwater, and we produce our own energy from our own power station fuelled by vegetable oils. In addition to electricity it also produces heat which we use for heating and cooling. At Sa Canova we filter our water using ponds filled with aquatic plants. This pro-

duces water sufficiently clean to irrigate the fields and costs next to nothing. We are happy to show this to anyone who is interested. It doesn’t exist anywhere else. It’s a good example of why man does not have to interfere with nature, but live in harmony with it.

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline?

Yes and the most exciting of them is that we have received authorisation for Sinupret extract. This was a big deal for Bionorica as we have invested millions and spent years working on it. It is a brand new remedy made from the five existing plants. We have been given the international patent until 2032, and we will hopefully soon be able to sell it in Spain, too.

In the past it was very difficult to get genuine authorisation in Spain as there herbal medicines are classed as dietary supplements. That was not helpful to us at Bionorica as we put a lot into our research. But the Spaniards are becoming more open minded. We have already received a number of authorisations and more keep being added. The simplest way is through the European procedures that lay down the timelines the authorities have to stick to, and they do. In Poland I normally have to wait four to five years for an authorisation.

Using the European Mutual Recognition Procedure, I receive authorisation in Poland and other countries within nine months, all at the same time. Sinupret extract will be rolled out in Ukraine in the next few months.

„Das ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür, dass der Mensch die Natur nicht stören würde“ Fragt man einen der erfolgreichsten Mittelständler Deutschlands nach aktuellen Projekten, dann fällt die Antwort umfangreich aus. Für Prof. Dr. Michael A. Popp steht der europaweite Launch des verbesserten Wirkstoffs für Bionoricas Bestseller Sinupret im Fokus. Auf seinem Weingut Castell Miquel in Alaró arbeitet das neue Team derzeit an lokalen Produkten mit Öko-Label.

Seine Forschungen im Bereich Phytopharmaka wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet – zuletzt erhielt Prof. Dr. Popp 2016 den bayerischen Verdienstorden für sein nachhaltiges unternehmerisches Engagement und ehrenamtliches Wirken. Und auch insgesamt liegt ein Rekordjahr hinter der Bionorica. Das Unternehmen mit Sitz in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz erzielte bereits 2015 einen NettoUmsatz von 244,3 Mio. Euro –

ein Plus von 5,1 Prozent zum Vorjahr.

Trotz Kursverfall des russischen Rubels konnte die Führung im zweitwichtigsten Markt neben Deutschland gesichert werden. „Wir wollen weiter wachsen“, kommentiert Popp.

DELUXE traf den Unternehmer auf seiner Event-Finca Sa Canova zwischen Llubi und Sa Pobla zum Gespräch über Landwirtschaft, fairen Wettbewerb und seine Unternehmensführung.

Prof. Dr. Popp, Ihr Weingut Castell Miquel launchte nach dem Teamwechsel 2015 eine Produktlinie mit Marmelade, Olivenöl und Mandeln.

Wie gelingt hier der Schulterschluss mit der Bionorica?

Wir setzen auf Qualität. Wir wussten, dass der Absatz gut funktionieren würde, weil ich aus eigener Erfahrung kenne, dass man zu Weihnachten oft unnütze Geschenke bekommt. Für unsere Kunden wollte ich einen guten Wein produzieren, damit wir immer ein schönes Präsent parat haben. So bin ich zum eigenen Weingut gekommen.

Unsere Ärzte und Apotheker begannen dann, den Wein nachzukaufen, die damit den Großteil der Produktion abnehmen. Wir sind Marktführer in Russland und in der Ukraine im Segment pflanzliche Arzneimittel, dorthin geht auch unser Wein.

Auf der Finca Sa Canova gibt es eine ShowApotheke, wir bilden zum Phyto-Apotheker aus, viele Gruppen besuchen uns, über den Absatz des Weines muss ich mir wenig Sorgen machen. Wir produzieren zudem Kräuter-Salz und Mandeln als Werbegeschenk, das gehört zum Gesamtmarketingkonzept der Bionorica.

Nun haben wir gerade eine eigene Marmelade aufgelegt, denn es hat mir leidgetan, dass wir 14 Tonnen Orangen liegen lassen. Also habe ich meinen Koch gebeten, ob er Marmelade daraus machen kann. Meine Mutter kam zur Verkostung und kocht nun nicht mehr selber ein. Das heißt schon was. Dieses Jahr produzieren wir 35.000 Gläser Marmelade, die hat gleich mein Marketing abgenommen.

Mallorca ist für meinen Wein gut, weil hier viele Deutsche leben. Ins Nikki Beach bin ich auf Druck der deutschen Gäste gekommen, die dort nach meinem Wein gefragt haben. Boden ist allerdings ein Problem, weil das Land so teuer ist. Landwirtschaft lohnt hier fast nicht.

Wenn man Land zukaufen muss, ist das sehr teuer, fast alles ist Bauland, ab drei Hektar kann man Boden meist bebauen. Ich möchte gerne weiter Land zukaufen, aber zu vernünftigen Preisen. Sollte eine Währungsreform kommen, ist Landwirtschaft das richtige Geschäft. Essen müssen die Menschen immer.

Wir sind Marktführer in Russland für pflanzliche Arzneimittel, wir verkaufen dort fast so viele Einheiten wie in Deutschland. Zähne zusammenbeißen ist unsere Strategie beim Rubelverfall, da muss man durch. Das ist das Gute daran, wenn einem das Unternehmen gehört. Wir können frei entscheiden. Es liegt wesentlich am Ölpreis, und der wird sich wieder normalisieren.

Seit 1995 bestellt die Bionorica extracts S.L. 100 Hektar Inselboden mit Heilpflanzen. Sehen Sie in diesem Bereich Wachstumspotenzial für junge Unternehmen?

Meine Grundeinstellung zu Mallorca ist schon, dass das Geld auf der Straße liegt, davon träumen auch viele Deutsche. Es gibt Geschäftsmöglichkeiten ohne Ende, weil man eben die deutsche Qualität, die man sucht, nur selten findet. Ich fliege meine Schreiner ein. Aber Mallorca ist kein Schlaraffenland. Im Gegenteil. Viele erwarten das, aber scheitern. Man hat mit Widrigkeiten zu kämpfen, die man nicht erwartet. Grundstoffe sind nicht zu bekommen und daher teuer. Es gab Phasen beim Weingut, da wussten wir nicht, wie es weitergeht. Gelieferte Ware war teils nicht brauchbar, dennoch wurden die Rechnungen gezahlt, weil der Lieferant ein Landsmann war.

Es ist ein schwieriger Prozess.

In Spanien ist es noch wichtiger als in Deutschland, dass man Einheimische kennenlernt, denen man vertrauen kann und die gut vernetzt sind. Der Markt unterliegt anderen Gesetzen. Man sucht den Weg in die Politik, in meinem Fall zum Beispiel zum Bürgermeister in Sa Pobla oder Alaró. Natürlich sollte man auch mal örtliche Vereine unterstützen. Man muss sich integrieren. Ich habe Glück, dass die Familie, die früher auf meiner Finca aufgewachsen ist und heute Es Verger betreibt, mich

als zur Familie gehörig behandelt. Man findet schon die richtigen Leute in den richtigen Kreisen. Mit dem früheren Landwirtschaftsminister entwickelte sich eine echte Freundschaft. Es ist aber schon schwer, nach Mallorca zu kommen und etwas aufzubauen, von dem man dann schnell leben kann.

Insbesondere, wenn es um ein Weingut geht.

Hier braucht man ein Durchhaltevermögen von zehn Jahren, bis man guten Wein produziert.

Wurzeln in Deutschland hat. Im Wettbewerb sind die Mallorquiner klar im Vorteil, weil sie schon durch die Schule vernetzt sind und einem das Leben schwermachen können und das auch tun. Manchmal wird mit harten Bandagen gekämpft, mit denen man nicht rechnet. Mein Prinzip war immer: Leben und leben lassen.

Planen Sie weitere Projekte auf Mallorca?

Landwirtschaftlich werden wir auf jeden Fall im Heilpflanzenanbau weiter wachsen, weil wir einen größeren Bedarf an Pflanzen haben, die hier wachsen. Wir konnten die Kostenstruktur deutlich optimieren. Wir exportieren Weine, Marmelade, Mandeln. Es gibt immer neue Produkte. Die mediterrane Küche liegt ja im Trend. Meine Kunden finden es toll, ökologisch angebaute Mandeln von hier zu bekommen oder unser Olivenöl.

Der Hauptsitz von Bionorica im oberpfälzischen Neumarkt gilt als eines der nachhaltigsten Gebäude der Welt. Welche der dort angewendeten Maßnahmen könnte man breiter nutzen?

Wir sammeln Regenwasser und wir produzieren Energie mit unserem eigenen Kraftwerk, das wir mit Pflanzenöl befahren. Neben elektrischer Energie entsteht Wärme, die wir zum Heizen und Kühlen nutzen. Auf Sa Canova reinigen wir das Wasser in einem Pflanzenbecken. Das Wasser wird so sauber, dass wir damit die Felder gießen können. Das kostet fast gar nichts. Wir zeigen das gerne, wenn jemand Interesse hat. Das gibt es sonst eigent-

lich nirgends. Es ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür, dass der Mensch die Natur nicht stören würde, sondern dass beide nebeneinander existieren können.

Gibt es neue Projekte?

Das Spannendste ist die Zulassung für Sinupret extract. Das war eine große Nummer für die Bionorica, wir haben Millionen investiert und Jahre gebraucht. Es ist ein ganz neuer Wirkstoff geworden, und zwar aus den bestehenden fünf Pflanzen. Das weltweite Patent haben wir bis 2032 erhalten, so dass wir es hoffentlich auch bald in Spanien anbieten können.

Früher war es in Spanien sehr schwer, echte Zulassungen zu bekommen, weil pflanzliche Arzneimittel hier als Nahrungsergänzungsmittel eingestuft werden. Da die Bionorica viel forscht, passte das nicht für uns. Mittlerweile sind die Spanier offen. Einige Zulassungen haben wir bereits erhalten, ständig kommen weitere dazu. Der einfache Weg führt über europäische Verfahren, die Timelines vorgeben, die von den Behörden eingehalten werden müssen und auch werden. In Polen warte ich auf eine Zulassung üblicherweise vier bis fünf Jahre. Über das europäische MRP-Verfahren bekomme ich innerhalb eines Dreivierteljahres eine Zulassung in Polen und gleichzeitig in weiteren Ländern. In den kommenden Monaten wird Sinupret extract in der Ukraine eingeführt.

Stairway to Heaven Das Weingut Castell Miquel liegt in malerischer Lage in Alaró. Der Blick über das Tal geht gegen Osten, in Richtung der aufgehenden Sonne.

Der Legende nach war hier einst einem mallorquinischen Bauern ein Engel erschienen. Der Engel empfahl ihm, an dieser Stelle einen Weinstock zu pflanzen. Dies tat der Bauer, und die Reben entwickelten sich zu den besten der Insel. Aus Dankbarkeit stellte der Bauer in einer nahegelegenen Höhle eine Madonnen-Figur auf. Hinweise auf die Höhle finden sich in den alten Plänen des Castells. Als Professor Michael A. Popp das Weingut er warb, machte er es sich zur Aufgabe, das Geheimnis zu lüften. An den vom Engel gesegneten Hängen rekultivierte er die alten Anbauflächen der mallorquinischen Bauern und taufte die geschaffenen Terrassenflächen „Stair way“. Für den Fall, dass er die Höhle entdeckt, soll darin ein Wein ausgebaut werden.

Der Name wird „Cueva Madonna“ sein.

Die Besichtigungszeiten sind montags bis freitags von 12 bis 19 Uhr und am Samstag von 11 bis 14 Uhr, zudem werden Weinproben angeboten.

The true wealth of the Island It is fortunate that since the advent of tourism 50 years ago the Balearic government has been able to keep the construction boom to a minimum in the interior of the Island. Today, many large landowners make use of its ideal climatic conditions for organic farming, focusing on the preservation of indigenous plant species that without this intervention would soon disappear.

It is indisputable that Mallorca’s economy depends very largely on tourism, followed closely by construction as the most important source of income. Nevertheless nearly 80% of the Island still remains uninhabited, with three quarters of it given over to agriculture. Conservation is taken very seriously in Mallorca. In 2011 the Tramuntana mountains were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and they have been given special protection ever since. It is here you will find Son Moragues, an estate situated on the outskirts of the much-loved mountain village of Valldemossa that features on the must-see list in every international tourist guide. Here since 2007 the land has been sensitively farmed according to organic principles and in line with EU regulations.

Fruit and vegetables have been on sale weekly since mid-2010 and a new range of products consisting of olive oil and preserves is now available in shops.

hoever visits Son Moragues for the first time will be immediately struck by the mosaics lovingly set into the walls along the forest path, and by the carefully layered dry stone walls, so typical of Mallorca. From the hillside beside the main house you can look over the estate with its ten thousand olive trees.

The wood above the hill is criss-crossed by a network of ancient trails which are currently being restored as part of a programme of landscape conservation. Founded by the Moragues family in the fourteenth century, and home to such illustrious figures as Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, the finca has for centuries been at the heart of agricultural life in Valldemossa.

Following a period of decline, the more than 100-hectare estate is today continuing its farming tradition, and in addition to its famous olive oil it produces a wide range of fruit and vegetables and home-made preserves. Son Moragues is the only finca to produce 100% of its olive oil from local Mallorquina green olives. It also grows Valldemossa tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum), bitter Mallorquin oranges (Citrus aurantium Mallorquín), purple Mallorquin aubergines and green peppers (pebre rosprim).

Some ten years ago the new owners set themselves the heroic task of restoring the landscape and reviving traditional skills, as well as planting more than eighty varieties of indigenous fruits and vegetables that until then were seldom available to buy. They farm according to organic principles and in line with EU regulations, without the use of pesticides and with regard to the environment and the health of the consumer. Ever since, a team of twenty ecologists, farmers and cooks have been working to

implement this. The finca’s four hectare organic garden is laid out in terraces. Since the 17th century this has been enclosed by a high exterior wall that protects the flower beds. The water required for the farm comes from four natural springs and is fed through a system of channels. The olive trees that are between 500 and 800 years old are dusted with kaolin, a natural clay powder that protects them from insect damage. It is in this way that they can do without pesticides.

Harvesting in the autumn is still done by hand. The farm workers agitate the branches with sticks and nets placed under the trees catch the falling olives. Once the olives have been pressed, the label indicates the quality of the oil. It can only be called extra virgin if its acidity is less that 0.8 percent.

Part of the harvest is preserved in attractive glass jars with designer labels as a stylish amuse-gueule before a meal.

This ‘liquid gold’ is rich in nutrients and forms an essential part of healthy Mediterranean cuisine. When extracting the oil today, the olives are processed as quickly as possible after harvest in order to keep exposure to oxygen to a minimum. Son Moragues olive oil is made purely from green olives, which makes it a rarity of exceptional quality.

The oil is sold in bottles hand-blown by Gordiola and should be kept cool and away from light. In order to get the maximum benefit from its nutrients and fully enjoy its fresh fruity flavour, olive oil of this quality should not be kept for too long. Son Moragues organic extra virgin olive oil is made from the Mallorquina variety and has 0.3% acidity. Its particularly rich colour and fruity flavour marks it out from other oils. It is on sale in the gourmet section of El Corte Ingles department stores on Avinguda d’Alexandre Rosselló and Jaume III, packaged in a wooden box made by hand on the estate.

From 2017 onwards, the finca in Valldemossa will be offering exclusive tastings for select groups. Under the expert guidance of Deborah Piña Zitrone, guests will be able to visit one of the most beautiful olive groves on the Island and learn all about the history and culture of olive oil in the Serra de Tramuntana.

Das flüssige Gold der Insel Ein Glück, dass die Balearen-Regierung seit Beginn des Tourismus vor 50 Jahren den Bauboom im Inneren der Insel auf ein Minimum limitieren konnte. Viele Großgrundbesitzer nutzen heute die idealen klimatischen Voraussetzungen für ökologische Landwirtschaft mit Fokus auf den Erhalt einheimischer Pflanzenarten, die es sonst bald nicht mehr gäbe.

Ohne Zweifel, die Wirtschaft auf Mallorca lebt zum größten Teil vom Tourismus, danach folgt das Baugewerbe als wichtigste Einnahmequelle. Dennoch ist die Insel bis heute zu fast 80 Prozent unbesiedelt, drei Viertel des Bodens gelten als landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche. Dem Naturschutz wird auf Mallorca besondere Beachtung geschenkt. Das Tramuntana-Gebirge wurde 2011 gar von der UNESCO zum Welterbe ernannt und seither besonders geschützt. Hier liegt das Anwesen Son Moragues, etwas oberhalb von Valldemossa, dem beliebten Bergdorf, das als Must-see auf jeder Liste internationaler Reiseführer zu finden ist. Mit viel Feingefühl wird hier seit 2007 ökologische Landwirtschaft im Einklang mit den Vorschriften der Europäischen Union betrieben. Seit Mitte 2010 steht Obst und Gemüse wöchentlich zum Verkauf, eine neue Produktpalette aus Olivenöl und Aufstrich wird derzeit im Handel platziert.

er die Finca Son Moragues zum ersten Mal besucht, dem fallen sofort die liebevollen Mosaike im Mauerwerk entlang des Waldweges auf, ebenso wie die sorgsam geschichteten Natursteinmauern, die so typisch für Mallorca sind. Von der Anhöhe neben dem Haupthaus sieht man über das Grundstück mit zehntausend Olivenbäumen, oberhalb des Berges ist der Wald von einem Netzwerk alter Wanderwege durchzogen, die derzeit im Rahmen der Landschaftspflege restauriert werden. Von der Familie Moragues im 14. Jahrhundert gegründet und seither bewohnt von illustren Persönlichkeiten wie dem Erzherzog Ludwig Salvator von Österreich war die Finca über Jahrhunderte eines der Zentren des landwirtschaftlichen Lebens von Valldemossa.

Nach einer Zeit des Verfalls führt das Gut heute seine landwirtschaftliche Tätigkeit fort und produziert auf über 100 Hektar neben dem berühmten Olivenöl eine Vielzahl an Obst- und Gemüsesorten sowie daraus hausgemachte Aufstriche. Son Moragues ist die einzige Finca, die ihr Olivenöl zu 100 Prozent mit der einheimischen grünen Sorte Mallorquina produziert. Unter anderem wachsen hier Valldemossa-Tomaten (Solanum lycopersicum), bittere mallorquinische Orangen (Citrus aurantium Mallorquín), violette mallorquinische Auberginen und grüne Paprika (pebre rosprim).

Vor rund zehn Jahren hatten die neuen Hausherren sich das hehre Ziel gesetzt, die Landschaft und das traditionelle Handwerk wiederherzustellen sowie über achtzig lokale Obst- und Gemüsesorten anzupflanzen, die bis dato auf dem Markt kaum noch erhältlich waren – nach ökologischen Verfahren und in Übereinstimmung mit den EU-Richtlinien, pestizidfrei und im Einklang mit der Umwelt und der Gesundheit der Verbraucher. Seither arbeitet ein Team aus zwanzig Ökologen, Landwirten und Köchen an der Umsetzung. Der vier Hektar große Biogarten der Finca wurde terrassenförmig angelegt. Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert umgibt ihn eine große, die Pflanzbeete schützende Außenmauer. Das für den Anbau benötigte Wasser stammt aus vier natürlichen Quellen und wird über ein eigenes Kanalsystem geleitet. Die Olivenbäume, die zwischen 500 und 800 Jahre alt sind, werden mit

Kaolin, natürlichem Tonstaub, bepudert zum Schutz vor Insektenbefall. So kann auf Pestizide gänzlich verzichtet werden.

Die Ernte im Herbst wird heute noch in Handarbeit verrichtet. Unter den Bäumen, deren Äste die Bauern mit Stöcken zum Schwingen bringen, liegen Netze aus, in denen die fallenden Oliven gesammelt werden. Nach dem Pressen zeigt das Label die Qualität des Öls, Virgin Extra darf nur so heißen, wenn der Säuregehalt von 0,8 Prozent nicht überschritten wird.

Ein Teil der Ernte wird eingelegt in schicken Gläsern mit Designer-Etikett des Hauses als stilvolles Amuse-Gueule vor dem Essen.

Das „flüssige Gold“ ist reich an Nährstoffen und macht einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur gesunden Mittelmeerküche aus. Bei der Gewinnung achtet man heute auf die rasche Verarbeitung der Früchte nach der Ernte, zudem reduziert man die Sauerstoffzufuhr auf ein Minimum. Das Olivenöl von Son Moragues wird rein aus grünen Oliven gewonnen und ist somit eine Rarität besonderer Güte. Das Öl wird in mundgeblasenen Flaschen von Gordiola angeboten und sollte kühl und lichtgeschützt aufbewahrt werden. Olivenöl dieser Qualität sollte man nicht zu lange aufheben, um in den vollen Genuss aller Nährstoffe und des frisch-fruchtigen Geschmacks zu kommen.

Das Bio-Olivenöl DO Mallorca Son Moragues aus Oliven der Sorte Mallorquina mit 0,3 Prozent Säuregehalt fällt durch seine besonders satte Farbe auf, und auch der fruchtige Geschmack lässt sich kaum mit dem anderer Öle vergleichen. Es ist derzeit in den Kaufhäusern des Corte Ingles auf der Avinguda d’Alexandre Rosselló und auf der Jaume III in der Gourmet-Abteilung erhältlich, in einer handgezimmerten Holzbox aus der hauseigenen Schreinerei.

Ab 2017 wird die Finca in Valldemossa exklusive Verköstigungen für ausgewählte Gruppen anbieten.

Unter der fachlichen Leitung von Deborah Piña Zitrone wird es den Gästen ermöglicht, einen der schönsten Olivenhaine der Insel zu besuchen und alles über die Geschichte und Kultur des Olivenöls in der Serra de Tramuntana zu lernen. Can you tell me a bit about where you’re from and how you started as a chef?

I basically became a Chef by accident. As a young boy I just wanted to be in a rock band or play football professionally. At 15 years old I got a weekend job washing dishes in a restaurant and I instantly loved the buzz of the kitchen, the teamwork and the camaraderie. I knew then that I would become a Chef.

“Km 0 is pretty hot right now” With two new restaurants on the cards this year and having won a third star for his flagship Palma restaurant at the Convent de la Missió Hotel at the 2016 Michelin Guide awards, the celebrated British chef Marc Fosh is once more the talk of the town.

One of the most colourful chefs on the Island, he is also often cited by culinary experts as one of Mallorca’s most experimental, for his contribution to avant-garde-turned-freshMediterranean cuisine. However, with his healthy appetite for new horizons, this resident from Great Britain is also a brilliant businessman, and in 2016 Marc Fosh presented three new venues with surprising concepts. As well as a catering and consultation branch, a cooking school, two new restaurants and a shop for kitchen accessories and culinary treats, not forgetting his ongoing involvement in the Marc Fosh restaurant at the Palma hotel Convent

de la Missio (formerly known as Simply Fosh), Fosh currently operates three restaurants in the old town – one earning him a total of three Michelin stars – and he isn’t showing any sign of stopping there, either.

This year he opened Fosh Kitchen, a chic brasserie in a former chocolaterie, and Fosh Lab, a restaurant for show cooking (covered by a flat screen TV) where he wants to “test experimental concepts for future venues”. One of Britain’s most prolific chefs, Deluxe talked to him about his career abroad and how creativity and good old-fashioned hard work are the secret of his success.

You are now at the helm of your own company – how did the new projects evolve?

Over the last year I’ve restructured the company and been very lucky to find new partners to help take the business forward. The new projects were planned for a while but in the end came almost together and we are very excited about both our new restaurants. Fosh Lab is a very intimate and exclusive space where we can really push our creative energies and it’s a very cool, new gastronomic experience for Palma. Fosh Kitchen is a lively Mediterranean bistro where the emphasis is on the best ingredients, simply cooked in a healthy way. I guess it’s a restaurant where you could eat everyday.

With your numerous establishments do you still have time to cook? What do you say to critics when they ask about your time spent in the kitchen, about becoming a brand?

As a Chef and owner of restaurants my main focus is always about the food. Cooking every day in a high-end restaurant is very physically demanding, its also incredibly stressful and as you move forward with your career you learn to become a good teacher and you also have to learn how to delegate. It’s clear that I can’t be in every kitchen all the time and that is why we have such wonderful teams in all our restaurants. For me it’s about making sure that they follow our philosophy of warm hospitality and clean, healthy Mediterranean food with pure flavours. A Fosh restaurant has to carry those ideals. I don’t know about becoming a brand. As a Chef, I suppose if you have been around long enough and been successful at what you do, people will then put their trust in your name when they go out to eat. It’s a big responsibility and I’m very grateful that we have such a loyal clientele who continually support us and help us to improve everyday.

How do you explain your consistent success?

Like anybody you have up’s and down’s but I am a naturally positive person and I never like

standing still for too long. I’m always, slowly pushing forward and I really believe that in any business you have to keep continually looking at small ways you can improve your product. With restaurants there are so many areas that need you to focus your energies on from the food to the service, the décor, the ambiance and the whole experience that you are trying to provide. Not to mention the staff training, the marketing and keeping an eye on the finances. At the end of the day, I know I will never be satisfied and I will always feel that we can do better… but I’m fine with that as long as we keep slowly moving forwards.

Congratulations on winning your third star at your Palma flagship restaurant Marc Fosh at the Convent de la Missió Hotel – how does the cuisine there differ from your two new restaurants?

Marc Fosh restaurant is where you can enjoy some new, exciting dishes or some of our signature dishes that have become so popular over the years. Fosh Kitchen is more casual and the Lab is all about the creative process and discovering new flavours.

Does this farm-to-table, healthy style of cuisine reflect changing attitudes to food in London and Mallorca?

I think it definitely does and I feel it’s going to become even more prevalent. We strongly support local produce and admire the values of the Slow Food Movement, which defends responsible consumption, organic farming,

seasonal foods, avoiding the use of genetically modified products, and the use of local ingredients within a 100-kilometer radius. This is now known as Km 0 and it’s pretty hot right now.

The goal is basically to limit the human impact on the environment – less flying, driving, and fuel consumption (all of which leaves a smaller "eco-footprint"). Farm-fresh produce is also packed with nutrients and generally doesn't have to be sprayed with chemicals to protect it for the long haul to the restaurant kitchen. Thinking globally and sourcing locally is not just politically correct; it's also personally rewarding for the farmer, the chef and the diner. Everybody wins.

I believe that here in Mallorca we have always relied heavily on KM 0 produce from our beautiful Island, we just didn’t fully realise it and we certainly didn’t know how to sell it to the outside world. I guess the fact that this has always existed here to a large degree has resulted in a lack of urgency to tell our story well and sell our wonderful local produce in an effective way to the outside world. Just a quick glimpse around a restaurant like Marc Fosh and you’ll see that around 70% of the wines on our list are from the Island. On the table our organic olive oil is from the village of Montuiri and our sea salt is from Es Trenc. Our menu is littered with local ingredients from Sóller prawns, young almonds, sea fennel, scorpion fish from the Mediterranean and local lamb from the surrounding fields etc, etc. Locally we have so much to offer.

Your wife Iris is German, she recently started working with you. How do you manage to stay happy at work and at home?

I really wanted Iris to join me for a long time but she was busy running her own business.

Luckily she was finally persuaded and it has been wonderful working together for the past year or so. Off course, you can’t really switch off at home and invariably we always end up talking about business, but that’s ok, at least we share everything now.

What does the future hold in terms of restaurant trends?

I think the trend is for more vegetable based menus and a reliance on locally sourced products. We recently introduced a vegetarian tasting menu at MF restaurant and it has proved to be extremely popular with everyone who has tried it, not only vegetarians.

What’s next for you?

We at the Fosh group have a lot of plans. We are in the planning phase of opening our first outside of Palma. It’s going to be something very different and we are all very excited about the next phase of our journey. We will keep gently pushing forward.

Ich wurde durch Zufall Koch. Als Junge wollte ich in einer Rockband sein oder professionell Fußball spielen. Im Alter von 15 Jahren bekam ich einen Wochenend-Job als Tellerwäscher in einem Restaurant, und ich liebte sofort die Begeisterung der Köche, die Teamarbeit und die Kameradschaft. Da wusste ich, dass ich Koch werden würde.

Als eine der schillerndsten Figuren der Gastronomie-Szene wird Marc Fosh von Restaurant-Kritikern oft für seinen Beitrag zur experimentellen Kochkultur der Insel zitiert – Ende der 90er Jahre für avantgardistische Arrangements, heute für moderne, frisch-mediterrane Küche. Mit einem gesunden Appetit für neue Horizonte bewies sich der Brite zuletzt auch als brillanter Geschäftsmann, der allein 2016 drei neue Locations in Palma mit überraschenden Konzepten vorstellte. Neben Catering und Beratung, einer Kochschule, zwei neuen Restaurants und einem Geschäft für Küchenaccessoires und kulinarische Leckereien, seine kontinuierliche Einbindung im Restaurant Marc Fosh im Hotel Convent de la Missió (früher

als Simply Fosh bekannt) nicht zu vergessen, betreibt Fosh derzeit drei Restaurants in der Altstadt von Palma – eines davon wurde mit insgesamt drei Michelin-Sternen ausgezeichnet – und zeigt keinerlei Anzeichen, dass es damit bereits genug sei. In diesem Jahr eröffnete er Fosh Kitchen, eine schicke Brasserie in einer ehemaligen Chocolaterie, und Fosh Lab, ein Restaurant mit Show-Küche (die auch über einen großformatigen Fernseher einzusehen ist), wo er „experimentelle Konzepte für zukünftige Locations testen“ möchte. Einer der produktivsten Köche Großbritanniens sprach mit DELUXE über seine Karriere im Ausland und darüber, warum Kreativität und simple harte Arbeit die Geheimnisse seines Erfolges sind.

Sie befinden sich heute am Höhepunkt mit dem eigenen Unternehmen – wie kamen die neuen Projekte zustande?

Im letzten Jahr habe ich das Unternehmen neu strukturiert und mit viel Glück neue Partner gefunden, die mich unterstützen. Die neuen Restaurants waren lange geplant, und am Ende kam alles perfekt zusammen, wir freuen uns sehr darüber. Fosh Lab ist ein sehr intimer und exklusiver Raum, in dem wir unsere kreativen Energien verwirklichen können, und eine sehr coole, neue gastronomische Erfahrung für Palma. Fosh Kitchen ist ein lebendiges mediterranes Bistro, in dem der Schwerpunkt auf den besten Zutaten liegt, einfach auf gesunde Weise zubereitet. Ich denke, es ist ein Restaurant, wo man jeden Tag essen könnte.

Mit zahlreichen Locations, bleibt Ihnen Zeit zum Kochen? Was sagen Sie Kritikern auf die Frage, ob Sie jetzt ein Label werden?

Als Koch und Restaurantbesitzer liegt mein Schwerpunkt beim Essen. Täglich in einem High-End-Restaurant zu kochen, ist körperlich sehr anstrengend, und im Laufe der Karriere lernt man, ein guter Lehrer zu werden und zu delegieren. Es ist klar, dass ich nicht immer in der Küche stehen kann, dafür haben wir wunderbare Teams in allen unseren Restaurants.

Mein Job ist es, sicherzustellen, dass sie unserer Philosophie der Gastfreundschaft und der sauberen, gesunden mediterranen Küche mit reinen Aromen folgen. Ein Fosh Restaurant verschreibt sich diesen Idealen. Ich weiß nichts darüber, eine Marke zu werden. Als Koch denke ich, wenn Sie lange genug erfolgreich gewesen sind, setzen die Gäste Vertrauen in Ihren Namen, wenn sie essen gehen. Es ist eine große Verantwortung, und ich bin sehr stolz und dankbar, dass wir solch eine treue Kundschaft haben, die uns immer unterstützt und uns hilft, uns jeden Tag zu verbessern.

Wie erklären Sie Ihren kontinuierlichen Erfolg?

Wie jeder andere habe ich Höhen und Tiefen, aber ich bin von Natur aus ein positiver Mensch und ich bleibe nie lange stehen. Ich habe mich langsam nach vorne gearbeitet, und ich glaube, dass man, wie in jedem Geschäft, ständig Wege suchen sollte, das

Produkt zu verbessern. In Restaurants gibt es viele Bereiche, auf die man sich konzentrieren muss, auf das Essen, den Service, das Dekor, das Ambiente und das gesamte Erlebnis, das Sie zur Verfügung stellen möchten. Dabei sollte man die Ausbildung des Personals nicht vergessen und das Marketing, und man muss die Finanzen im Auge behalten. Am Ende des Tages werde ich immer das Gefühl haben, dass wir es besser machen könnten ... aber das ist o.k., solange wir uns langsam vorwärtsbewegen.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum dritten Stern für Ihr Flaggschiff-Restaurant Marc Fosh im Convent de la Missió Hotel – inwieweit unterscheidet sich die Küche dort von der in Ihren zwei neuen Restaurants?

Im Marc Fosh Restaurant servieren wir neue, spannende Gerichte sowie Spezialitäten des Hauses, die in den letzten Jahren zu beliebten Klassikern geworden sind. Fosh Kitchen ist eher casual und im Lab geht es um den kreativen Prozess und die Entdeckung neuer Aromen.

Reflektiert Ihre gesunde, regionale Küche einen neuen Trend in der Gastro-Szene in London oder auf Mallorca?

Das tut sie auf jeden Fall, und ich denke, der Trend wird noch wichtiger. Wir unterstützen lokale Produkte und halten uns an die Werte der Slow-Food-Bewegung, die einen verant-

wortungsvollen Konsum, den ökologischen Landbau, saisonale Lebensmittel, die Vermeidung der Verwendung von gentechnisch veränderten Produkten und die Verwendung von Zutaten aus der Region in einem 100-Kilometer-Radius vertritt. Das wird gerade als km 0 bekannt, und es ist sehr angesagt.

Das Ziel ist im Grunde, die Auswirkungen des Menschen auf die Umwelt zu limitieren durch weniger Flüge, Lastwagenfahrten und Kraftstoffverbrauch (all das hinterlässt einen „Öko-Fußabdruck“). Bauernhoffrische Produkte sind vollgepackt mit Nährstoffen und wurden meist nicht mit Chemikalien besprüht, um sie für die Restaurantküche lange haltbar zu machen. Global zu denken und vor Ort einzukaufen, ist nicht nur politisch korrekt; es zahlt sich auch für den Landwirt, den Koch und den Gast aus. Jeder gewinnt.

Hier auf Mallorca haben wir immer auf km0-Produkte unserer Insel gesetzt, wir haben das nur nicht erkannt und sicherlich nicht genug für die Außenwelt vermarktet. Ein kurzer Blick auf die Weinkarte des Marc Fosh Restaurants genügt und Sie werden sehen, dass rund siebzig Prozent der Weine von der Insel kommen.

Auf dem Tisch steht unser Bio-Olivenöl aus Montuïri und unser Meersalz stammt aus Es Trenc. Auf der Speisekarte stehen lokale Zutaten wie Garnelen aus Sóller, junge Mandeln, Meeresfenchel, Skorpionfische aus dem Mittelmeer und Lamm aus der Umgebung.

Lokal haben wir sehr viel zu bieten.

Ihre Frau Iris ist Deutsche, sie arbeiten seit Kurzem zusammen. Wie schaffen Sie es, bei der Arbeit und zu Hause glücklich zu bleiben?

Ich wollte Iris schon lange ins Team holen, aber sie war mit ihrem eigenen Unternehmen beschäftigt. Zum Glück konnte ich sie schließlich überzeugen. Natürlich kann man nicht wirklich zu Hause abschalten, und wir sprechen viel über das Geschäft, aber das ist in Ordnung so, wir teilen jetzt alles.

Wie sieht die Zukunft in Bezug auf die Restaurant-Trends aus?

Ich denke, der Trend zu Menüs auf Gemüsebasis und die Nutzung lokaler Produkte wird wichtiger. Vor Kurzem stand ein vegetarisches Probiermenü im MF Restaurant auf der Karte, und es hat sich als äußerst beliebt erwiesen, nicht nur bei Vegetariern.

Was kommt als Nächstes für Sie? Wir bei der Fosh Gruppe haben viele Pläne.

Wir sind gerade in der Planungsphase unseres ersten Restaurants außerhalb von Palma. Es wird etwas ganz anderes, und wir sind alle sehr gespannt auf die nächste Etappe unserer Reise. Wir gehen langsam immer weiter.

“There are many reasons for this success” Marvin Bonitz is the newest member of the senior management team at the long-established estate agents Minkner & Partner. With his international education and experience of the market on the Island, the 32-year-old is now the point of contact for new, young property developers.

In DELUXE he discusses prime locations and personal relationships.

Estate agents Minkner & Partner has been active in Mallorca for 23 years and is responsible for more than 10% of all property sales in the Balearics. This makes the company one of the more successful on the Island. With its head office in Santa Ponsa, the company has branches in Puerto Andratx and Llucmajor. It currently employs 30 members of staff. Minkner & Partner was founded by husband and wife Lutz und Edith Minkner, who are both still active members of the management team. Marvin Bonitz joined them on the senior management team in the middle of this year. The 32-year-old German has worked for Minkner & Partner for six years, first as a Sales Agent, then progressing to Sales Manager at the Puerto Andratx branch and for the past two years he has been Sales Director. Marvin Bonitz went to school in Marbella and as a result he speaks fluent German, Spanish and English.

Herr Bonitz, in 2015 Minkner & Partner recorded excellent results once again, with a considerable increase in sales. How do you account for this success?

As always, there are many reasons for this success. Most important of all is the excellent economic benchmark data of the countries our clients come from, which is predominantly Germany, Austria and Switzerland. People there are doing well and they are looking for a secure capital investment on the one hand, and on the other a good return on that investment (in a bank, that return is practically zero), whether in term of appreciation of the asset or simply quality of life. You can have all this when you purchase a property in Mallorca.

experienced business administrator, assisted by a tri-lingual Spanish lawyer. For more complex questions these ladies can call upon Herr Minkner’s considerable expertise and our network of professional lawyers, tax consultants and notaries. All our employees receive regular training so that they too are able to provide reliable information. This is why I call my team ‘The Professionals’.

Where ought potential purchasers to invest?

Which parts of the Island offer the best prices and value for money?

That’s a difficult question. The south-west, the area around Palma and Son Vida, Portixol, and also the south-east and north of the Island have now become really expensive, but other experts are of the same opinion as me that the prices there have not yet peaked and will continue to rise. A lot of people who don’t want to or can’t pay the prices for those areas end up in the coastal regions to the east and south of Palma. Prices there are mostly still affordable and they still have potential.

What in your opinion marks out your company from others on the Island?

Without a doubt, our expertise. And not just at management level, but throughout the whole team. There is more to being a professional estate agent than just unlocking the doors of beautiful properties. You need knowledge of the market and the business, an understanding of fundamental tax and legal issues, and a close network of trustworthy, experienced partners. You cannot acquire this overnight, it takes decades of experience. We have our own inhouse legal and contracts department that checks the properties for sale, prepares draft contracts and accompanies clients when they visit the notary. This department is run by an

Port Andratx, Santa Ponsa, Puerto Portals and Palma have long been regarded as bestsellers.

Are there fashionable new locations one ought to consider?

In the south-west I would definitely add Bendinat and Son Vida. For most buyers it is important to be near Palma and the airport.

On the east coast there are some interesting new properties being built and prices are still low, but the season there is very short and when it’s over everything shuts down, the harbours, cafés, restaurants etc. That is why the most sought after locations are the ones you’ve already mentioned.

You have a very close personal relationship with Lutz and Edith Minkner, and the company places great emphasis on customer service.

Have there been any innovations since you joined the senior management team?

It is quite true that I have a very close relationship with the Minkner family. But that is one of the strengths of the company ethos. The staff can always take their personal problems to Edith and Lutz Minkner and get the support they need. But it works both ways – the Minkner family can also rely on us as a team.

years but Herr Minkner has told me that we have never had such a good team as we have now. As to new ideas since I’ve been on the senior management team – yes, I’ve made a start with the distribution of work. I am trying to give the Minkners more free time and relieve them of day-to-day tasks. The market has changed too since the financial crisis. Property developers have disappeared from the market, or the owners have handed over their businesses to their children. Young new property developers have taken their place. They speak my language and I know how they “tick”. As forward thinking business people the Minkners have recognised this and they have given me this new area of responsibility for which I am very grateful.

Minkner & Partner is planning to open a new office in Port Andratx at the end of this year or the beginning of next. Can you tell us anything about it?

Yes, we are opening a new, larger branch office in Puerto Andratx at the beginning of January 2017, right on the harbour opposite the fish market. We are in the middle of the planning process and need to get on with the work quickly as we want to move from the old office to the new one before Christmas. We have also taken on additional new members of staff for the Andratx branch and we are in the process of training them for their new jobs. It’s all very exciting. If you don’t go forward, you go backwards.

Wie immer hat der Erfolg viele Gründe. Am wichtigsten sind natürlich die guten wirtschaftlichen Eckdaten der Herkunftsländer unserer Kunden, nämlich überwiegend Deutschland, Österreich und Schweiz. Den Menschen geht es gut, und sie wollen einerseits eine sichere Kapitalanlage, andererseits auch eine Rendite (auf den Banken ist die Rendite ja fast null), sei es in Wertzuwachs, sei es in Lebensqualität.

All dies können sie haben, wenn sie eine Mallorca-Immobilie erwerben.

Ganz klar: unsere Kompetenz, und zwar nicht nur in der Führungsspitze, sondern im ganzen Team. Zu einem professionellen Makler gehört mehr, als nur die Türen zu schönen Häusern aufzuschließen: Markt- und Fachkenntnis, Kenntnis der wesentlichen Steuer- und Rechtsfragen und ein dichtes Netzwerk zu vertrauenswürdigen, erfahrenen Partnern. Das kann man nicht als „Eintagsfliege“ leisten, sondern es fußt immer auf jahrzehntelanger Erfahrung.

Wo sollten interessierte Käufer investieren, in welchen Teilen der Insel findet sich das beste Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis?

Eine schwierige Frage: Der Südwesten, die Region um Palma und Son Vida, Portixol, aber auch der Südosten und Norden ist inzwischen recht teuer geworden, aber alle Experten sind mit mir der Meinung, dass die Preise dort noch nicht ausgereizt sind, noch steigen werden.

Viele, die in den genannten Regionen die Preise nicht bezahlen können oder wollen, weichen in die Küstenzonen östlich und südlich von Palma aus. Dort sind die Preise überwiegend noch moderat und haben Potenzial.

Port Andratx, Santa Ponsa, Puerto Portals und Palma gelten seit Jahren als Bestseller. Gibt es

neue Trendlagen, die man sich ansehen sollte?

Aus dem Südwesten würde ich noch Bendinat und Son Vida hinzufügen. Den meisten Käufern ist die Nähe zu Palma und zum Flughafen wichtig. An der Ostküste wird zwar einiges Interessantes neu gebaut, die Preise sind noch günstig, aber man hat nur eine kurze Saison, danach werden die Häfen abgeschlossen, die Bürgersteige hochgeklappt und die Bäume eingesammelt. Deshalb sind die begehrtesten Lagen die, die Sie genannt haben.

Ihr Verhältnis zu Lutz und Edith Minkner ist sehr familiär, die Firma schreibt Kundenpflege groß.

Gibt es Neuerungen, seit Sie in die Geschäftsleitung berufen wurden?

Ja, ich habe eine sehr familiäre Beziehung zu Familie Minkner. Das ist aber grundsätzlich auch ein Pfeiler unserer Unternehmenskultur.

Die Mitarbeiter können mit ihren persönlichen Problemen zu Edith und Lutz Minkner kommen und werden Unterstützung finden; andererseits kann sich Familie Minkner auch auf unser Team verlassen. Ich bin ja erst sechs Jahre dabei, aber Herr Minkner sagt mir, dass wir noch nie ein so gutes Team hatten wie heute.

Neuerungen, seit ich in der Geschäftsleitung bin? Ja, zunächst in der Aufgabenverteilung.

Ich versuche, Minkners Freiräume zu schaffen und sie vom Tagesgeschäft zu entlasten. Aber auch der Markt hat sich seit der Krise geändert. Bauträger sind vom Markt verschwunden oder die Inhaber haben die Betriebe an die Kinder übergeben. Neue, junge Bauträger sind auf den Markt gekommen. Die sprechen meine Sprache, und ich weiß, wie sie „ticken“. Dies haben Minkners als vorausschauende Unternehmer erkannt und mir die neuen Verantwortungsbereiche übertragen, wofür ich sehr dankbar bin.

Minkner & Partner plant die Eröffnung eines neuen Büros in Port Andratx zum Jahreswechsel 2016/2017, was können Sie uns darüber sagen?

Ja, wir eröffnen Anfang Januar 2017 in Puerto Andratx in erster Hafenlinie, direkt gegenüber der Fischbörse, eine neue, größere Filiale. Wir sind mitten in den Planungsarbeiten und müssen den Ausbau zügig über die Bühne bringen, da wir noch vor Weihnachten vom alten in das neue Büro umziehen wollen. Wir haben für die Andratx-Filiale auch neue, zusätzliche Mitarbeiter eingestellt, die wir gerade auf ihre neuen Aufgaben vorbereiten.

Es bleibt weiter spannend. Stillstand ist Rückschritt.

Business ideas “on the side” For the young start-up scene, crowdfunding is the most effective means of financing business ideas and creative projects today. DELUXE met Felix Plötz at Entrepreneurs Day 2016 in Munich and asked him what advice he would give to entrepreneurs with new ideas. interview by birgit Unger

The advantage it has over a loan from your local bank is that it forms a direct link to the consumer, who through his or her investment establishes the immediate market value of the new business idea. In a few keywords and with a video produced as cheaply as possible, creative types, inventors and social entrepreneurs are able introduce their concepts to the community. The amount of money contributed is ring-fenced for that particular product, which after implementation of the project goes to the investor, provided that the funding target is met within the specified time. This also confirms that the starter had an idea that can achieve success in the market. One example that made headlines throughout Germany was the campaign on Startnext.com launched in 2013 by Felix Plötz and Dennis Betzholz.

They wanted to publish a book documenting 12 success stories of 12 unusual start-ups, and this brought the two young entrepreneurs to the attention of the successful German publisher Dr Florian Langenscheidt, who gave them his active support. Since then the book, ‘Palmen in Castrop-Rauxel’, has become a bestseller, and the publisher ‘Plötz & Betzholz’ has become part of a publishing group: at the beginning of 2016, the traditional publishing house Ullstein Buchverlage announced they had taken over the young publishers. Felix Plötz’s latest book ‘Das 4-Stunden-Startup’ climbed into the bestseller lists shortly after publication. His lectures calling for more courage and start-up spirit on the part of established companies have brought him international recognition.

Herr Plötz, in your new book ‘Das 4-StundenStartup’, you tell the story of a German woman who has recently successfully made a name for herself organising yoga holidays to Mallorca. What were the factors that contributed to the success of this project?

It is a wonderful story. At first it appears somewhat whimsical, but in reality it is absolutely sound. Before Claudia Gellrich founded her company ‘Karmahike’, she already had several years of experience in major Berlin start-ups behind her. She was one of the first employees of the shopping club ‘Brands4friends’ that caused great interest in 2010 when it was bought by eBay for 150 million euros. She stayed with the company for another couple of years and continued to learn her trade from the ground up. When she finally tired of the Berlin start-up hype, she decided to start up on her own. Her concept was based on a rock solid business plan, but what made it such a success was that it combined both of Claudia’s great passions – yoga and hiking. In my view, this is one of the most critical points when starting your own business.

It cannot primarily be just about money, it needs a large portion of enthusiasm behind it.

You know the Island from holidays you have spent there. Can you see any gaps in the market that could be plugged by young entrepreneurs?

I’m afraid it’s not that simple (laughs). I know the Island well as a visitor, but good business ideas are seldom so obvious that this would be enough. But I am one hundred percent sure that there is enormous potential for new business ideas in Mallorca.

What are the most important criteria that a business model ought to meet before it can be implemented?

First of all, it is very important to have expertise in that field. To be more precise, expertise combined with enthusiasm for the subject.

Once I have this as a starting point and I am passionate about yoga and hiking, for example, then the question of whether I offer this in Germany, Mallorca or somewhere else

is of secondary importance. And the answer to that can be found through thorough research of the situation on the ground.

Once you have done your homework, I myself find it important to subject those results and assumptions to a thorough reality check.

This should be carried out as early and as cheaply as possible. So don’t just concentrate on your business cards and a stylish website, talk to the people who might be interested in your idea – potential customers. Early on, Claudia Gellrich asked the yoga enthusiasts among her friends and acquaintances what they thought of her idea of combining yoga, hiking and digital downtime, in beautiful surroundings. The response was resoundingly positive, so she moved onto the next stage of setting up her own website and registering the business. I personally would never invest money in an idea without a certain Proof of Concept, regardless of how good it looks on paper.

Have you got any tips for launching campaigns on Startnext.com?

Startnext is a crowdfunding platform for financing creative ideas. Here, despite the fact that it uses expressions like ‘supporter’ and ‘donating’, you should never forget that people are not just donating their money. They want a clear return for their money – and this has to be the focus of every crowdfunding campaign.

Finally, your pitch needs to be as good as it can possibly be. We spent weeks honing our campaign until our pitch could not be improved on any more.

You appear as a speaker on the subject of start-ups and your presentations are billed as both interesting and entertaining. Is this talent or hard work?

Both, of course (laughs). I would have considerably less fun in giving my lectures if that wasn’t the case. And ultimately that is exactly what an audience deserves and what enthuses them: the mix of one’s own enthusiasm and the willingness to keep on evolving. I compose my lectures entirely on my own, just as I write my own books. I am not at all in favour of handing

over something that important to a ghostwriter or to another service provider.

Your new book ‘Das 4-Stunden-Startup’ takes us through the steps required to start your own company while holding down a permanent job. Have you already had feedback and success stories from people you have been able to motivate?

Yes, I really have and I receive more nearly every day. I think this is because the concept of trying out a business idea ‘on the side’, in

other words in addition to your normal job, offers great advantages. I believe that only a few people are such go-getters that they immediately give up everything and hand in their notice the moment they get a good idea. I am not like that myself and so have founded things ‘on the side’ a number of times. Up to now however far too few people were aware that this was even a possibility. Others can’t work out how they could manage it timewise. And this is just what the books clarifies.

You are now a publisher yourself, not only of print literature but also of audio and e-books.

What market share does each of these enjoy?

How important is print today?

You’re right. Following on from our 2013 selfpublishing project, we founded Germany’s first publishing house for YouTubers in 2015. This means that our writers are all social media stars, some of them with millions of followers.

The result is that our readers are not traditional book buyers. Despite this the split is pretty traditional - the largest market share for our books is print. E-books account for only 5 to 15% and the market for audio books is even smaller.

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline?

Can we expect a new book? Are you planning any more start-ups alongside your current career?

No, I am currently incredibly busy (laughs). I travel a great deal with my presentations and I am still working as a publisher at ‘Plötz & Betzholz’ even though it is now part of Ullstein Buchverlage. However, I can see myself writing another book. I have already assembled lots of ideas and the most important aspect continues to be generating enthusiasm for embracing the start-up spirit by winning over hearts and minds.

Geschäftsideen „nebenher“ Crowdfunding ist für die junge Gründerszene derzeit das effektivste Mittel zum Zweck, um kreative Projekte zu finanzieren. DELUXE fragte Erfolgsautor Felix Plötz nach Tipps für Unternehmer mit neuen Ideen.

Der Vorteil zum Kredit von der örtlichen Bank ist der direkte Weg zum Konsumenten, der über sein Investment auch gleich den Marktwert der neuen Geschäftsidee festlegt.

In wenigen Stichpunkten und mit einem möglichst günstig produzierten Video stellen Künstler, Kreative, Erfinder und Social Entrepreneurs der Community ihre Konzepte vor. Die Höhe der Summe, die beigesteuert wird, ist an das vorgestellte Produkt gebunden, das nach Umsetzung des Projekts an den Investor geht, sofern das vorgegebene Datum eingehalten wird. Dies beweist gleichzeitig, dass der Gründer eine Idee hatte, die im Markt erfolgreich sein kann.

Ein Beispiel, das deutschlandweit für Schlagzeilen sorgte, war eine Kampagne auf Startnext.com, die 2013 von Felix Plötz und Dennis Betzholz initiiert worden war.

Sie wollten ein Buch mit zwölf Erfolgsgeschichten über ungewöhnliche Startups publizieren – dabei machten die Jungunternehmer den erfolgreichen Verleger Dr. Florian Langenscheidt auf sich aufmerksam, der die beiden tatkräftig unterstützte. Mittlerweile ist das Buch („Palmen in Castrop-Rauxel“) zum Bestseller geworden und der Plötz & Betzholz Verlag Teil einer Verlagsgruppe: Anfang des Jahres 2016 gaben die traditionsreichen Ullstein Buchverlage die Übernahme der jungen Firma bekannt. Felix Plötz’ neues Buch „Das 4-Stunden-Startup“ eroberte bereits kurz nach Veröffentlichung die Bestsellerlisten. Mit seinen Vorträgen für mehr Mut und StartupSpirit in etablierten Firmen ist er international gefragt.

Herr Plötz, in Ihrem neuen Buch „Das 4Stunden-Startup“ erzählen Sie die Geschichte einer Deutschen, die sich letztlich erfolgreich mit Yogareisen nach Mallorca positionieren konnte. Was waren die Faktoren, die zum Gelingen des Projekts beitrugen?

Das ist eine wunderbare Geschichte: im ersten Moment etwas skurril anmutend, aber in Wahrheit absolut bodenständig. Bevor Claudia Gellrich ihr Unternehmen „Karmahike“ gründete, hatte sie bereits mehrere Jahre Erfahrung in großen Berliner Startups sammeln können. Sie war eine der ersten Mitarbeiterinnen des Shoppingclubs „Brands4friends“, der 2010 für Aufsehen sorgte, als eBay diesen für 150 Millionen Euro übernahm. Danach blieb sie noch ein paar Jahre an Bord und lernte ihr Handwerk sozusagen weiter von der Pike auf.

Als sie irgendwann genug vom Berliner Startup-Rummel hatte, wollte sie etwas Eigenes schaffen. Ihre Idee beruht zwar auf einem grundsoliden Businessplan, doch das (Erfolgs-) Entscheidende dabei ist: Es verbindet Claudias beide größten Leidenschaften – Yoga und Wandern. Aus meiner Sicht ist dies einer der wichtigsten Punkte, wenn man ein eigenes Business startet. Es darf dabei nicht in erster Linie nur ums Geld gehen, sondern es muss auf einer großen Portion Begeisterung basieren.

Sie kennen die Insel von Reisen, sehen Sie Marktlücken, die junge Unternehmer noch schließen könnten?

Nein, leider ist es nicht so einfach (lacht). Ich kenne die Insel zwar als Besucher ganz gut, jedoch sind gute Geschäftsideen selten so offensichtlich, dass dies genügen würde. Ich bin mir aber einhundertprozentig sicher, dass es auch auf Mallorca enorme Möglichkeiten für neue Geschäftsideen gibt.

Was sind die wichtigsten Kriterien, die ein Geschäftsmodell erfüllen sollte, bevor man an die Umsetzung geht?

Zunächst ist es wichtig, Expertise in einem Feld zu besitzen. Genauer gesagt Expertise in Kombination mit Begeisterung für das Thema.

Wenn ich diesen Startpunkt habe und mich beispielsweise für Yoga und Wandern begeistere, dann ist die Frage, ob ich diese am besten in Deutschland, auf Mallorca oder woanders anbiete, eher zweitrangig. Dies beantwortet

sich durch eine sorgfältige Recherche der Situation vor Ort. Sind diese Hausaufgaben gemacht, ist es für mich persönlich wichtig, dass die Ergebnisse und Annahmen einem ordentlichen Realitätscheck unterzogen werden. Dieser sollte übrigens so früh wie möglich und so günstig wie möglich geschehen. Also sich nicht erst auf Visitenkarten und eine schicke Homepage konzentrieren, sondern sich mit den Leuten unterhalten, die sich vermeintlich für die Idee begeistern werden – die potenziellen Kunden. Claudia Gellrich hat sehr früh die Yogabegeisterten im Freundes- und Bekanntenkreis befragt, was sie von der Kombination aus Yoga, Wandern und digitaler Auszeit in wunderschönen Landschaften halten. Die Resonanz war durchweg positiv, und die nächsten Schritte, wie eine eigene Homepage oder die Gewerbeanmeldung, standen an. Ohne einen gewissen Proof of Concept würde ich persönlich kein Geld in eine Idee investieren, egal wie gut sie auf dem Papier aussieht.

Haben Sie Tipps für Kampagnen auf Startnext.com? Worauf sollte man achten?

Startnext ist eine Crowdfunding-Plattform, um kreative Ideen zu finanzieren. Dabei sollte man trotz der dabei benutzten Begriffe wie „Unterstützer“ und „Spenden“ nicht vergessen, dass die Geldgeber gerade nicht spenden. Sie wollen einen klaren Gegenwert für ihr Geld bekommen – und dieser muss im Fokus jeder Crowdfunding-Kampagne stehen. Letztlich ist es ein Pitch, der so gut sein sollte wie nur möglich. Wir haben damals wochenlang an unserer Kampagne gefeilt, bis unser Pitch nicht mehr weiter optimierbar war.

Sie treten als Redner zum Thema Startups auf, Ihre Vorträge sind unterhaltsam und interessant bebildert. Talent oder harte Arbeit?

Ganz klar beides (lacht). Ich selbst hätte deutlich weniger Spaß daran, meine Vorträge zu halten, wenn es nicht so wäre. Und letztlich ist es auch genau das, was ein Publikum verdient hat und was begeistert: die Mischung aus eigener Begeisterung und der Bereitschaft, sich immer weiterzuentwickeln. Meine Vorträge erarbeite ich komplett selbst, genauso wie ich auch meine Bücher selbst schreibe. Ich bin überhaupt kein Freund davon, so etwas

Selfpublishing-Projekt haben wir 2015 Deutschlands ersten „YouTuber-Verlag“ gegründet. Das heißt, unsere Autoren sind allesamt Social-Media-Stars, teils mit Millionenreichweite. Dabei sind unsere Leser zwar nicht die typischen Buchkäufer, aber die Verteilung ist trotzdem recht typisch: Der größte Kanal ist auch bei unseren Büchern Print. E-Books machen nur einen Anteil von ca. 5 bis 15 Prozent aus und Hörbücher sind noch geringer vertreten.

Gibt es neue Projekte? Ist ein neues Buch zu erwarten? Planen Sie selbst ein weiteres Startup neben Ihrer aktuellen Karriere?

Nein, aktuell bin ich wunderbar ausgelastet (lacht). Ich bin mit meinen Vorträgen sehr viel unterwegs und außerdem bei Plötz & Betzholz auch nach der Übernahme durch die Ullstein Buchverlage weiterhin als Herausgeber tätig.

Was ich mir jedoch sehr gut vorstellen kann, ist, ein weiteres Buch zu schreiben. Ich habe bereits eine Menge Ideen gesammelt, und das Wichtigste ist auch weiterhin gegeben: die Begeisterung, um möglichst viel Startup-Spirit in die Köpfe und Herzen der Leute zu bringen.

Ja, die gibt es in der Tat, und zwar nahezu täglich. Ich glaube, das liegt daran, dass die Idee, sich mit seiner Geschäftsidee „nebenher“, also neben der normalen Arbeit auszuprobieren, enorme Vorteile bietet. Ich glaube, nur die wenigsten von uns sind derartige Draufgänger, dass sie für ihre Ideen gleich alles hinschmeißen und kündigen wollen. Ich selbst bin so nicht und habe entsprechend mehrfach „nebenher“ gegründet. Jedoch ist diese Möglichkeit bislang viel zu wenigen Menschen bekannt gewesen. Andere können sich nicht vorstellen, dass das zeitlich machbar ist. Und genau diese Lücke schließt das Buch.

Sie sind heute selbst Verleger, drucken nicht nur, sondern veröffentlichen auch Hörbücher und digitale Ausgaben. Wie teilt sich der Markt hier auf? Wie wichtig ist Print heute?

Here, both professional sportsmen and women and amateur sports enthusiasts can get fit with the team that the rest of the time trains and motivates world class players.

ll those who have followed the career of the Mallorquin tennis player Rafael Nadal will know why his home town of Manacor was the only location he will have considered for the tennis academy that bears his name. Since it opened in summer 2016, world class players such as Andy Murray have used its new facilities for training, and its open day at the end of September saw leading stars like Carlos Moyá, Mats Wilander, John McEnroe and Simon Solbas face each other on centre court. The new complex in the Island’s third largest municipality is principally designed for training up-and-coming tennis players.

At the ultra-modern American International School, the weekly timetable includes 17 hours of tennis coaching and 8 hours of physical education, as well as mental training and lessons in nutrition management. From Haute Cuisine to Haute Voiture This was the fourth time that host Michael Gleissner of Procar Automobile and RollsRoyce Cologne had come to the south-west of the Island to show the latest models to customers and friends of the marque.

Gleissner invited them to test drive the cars through the breathtaking landscape of the Island and to attend the annual Get Together. Partners of this year’s event included Burgess, the luxury yacht brokers.

Its team selected the 40-metre charter yacht Aziza as an exceptional venue for the presentation. From its three luxurious decks, it offered the perfect view of the elegant Drophead Coupé Dawn on the quay, and when darkness fell guests were treated to their first sight of the new Black Badge that Michael Gleissner had brought to Mallorca for the first time. With Black Badge, RollsRoyce Motor Cars is introducing a performance series that combines engineering skill, craftsmanship and progressive design – including a new all-black Spirit of Ecstasy, the iconic mascot on the bonnet – for a new sophisticated and exacting generation.

A flamenco guitarist on the gangway of the yacht gave the event local flair and greeted Michael Gleissner’s guests with Spanish music. The five-star hotel St. Regis Mardavall provided the food and French champagne house Armand de Brignac served the guests its Brut Gold and Brut Rosé. The international ambiance and harbour setting of the ‘uppereast’ club provided the perfect venue in which to finish off the evening. On the following day, Michael Gleissner invited selected customers to join him in a speedboat to follow the catamarans racing in the MultihullCup off Port Adriano. “We maintain long-term, personal contact with our customers in the places where they like to spend their time. In the summer this is in Mallorca and Sylt, in the winter in St Moritz. Sea trials in winds of 21 knots For sailors, Mallorca is one of the very finest destinations in the world.

Its consistently good winds have made the Bay of Palma a popular venue for international regattas, and large sailing yachts have made the Island their home port. Nautor’s Swan, one of the leading names in sailing, chose to open an office in Port Adriano. DELUXE accepted an invitation to attend the premiere of the new SWAN 54.

ollowing its launch in Finland and participation in the Nautor’s Swan in-house regatta in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary, the new SWAN 54 arrived in Port Adriano in mid-October, having called at Cannes and Porto Cervo on the way. Nautor’s Swan Germany/Austria and Mallorca International invited its customers there to experience, over a period of three days, the SWAN 54 under sail. Jan Opländer, owner of Swan Katima and Flensburger Yacht Services, explained, “You must have sailed a Swan yourself! Only then will you understand the special features of the marque.

The Finnish boat builders’ years of experience have given the Swan its perfect balance and light handling. With only two people on board it can be sailed with ease, whatever the wind speed. The lightweight carbon mast provides additional high performance.

And a real luxury on holiday is the large bathing platform at the stern.” The weekend of the premiere enjoyed perfect weather conditions with wind speeds ranging from 13 to 21 knots, and the SWAN 54 impressed guests with its excellent sailing performance and sophisticated technology. At the evening event held on the terrace of the Nautor’s Swan office, guests were treated to food by chef Fabian Fuster from the Canela Restaurant in Palma and a specially selected Dom Pérignon P2 and Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2006. The SWAN 54 was designed as a bluewater cruiser and was launched in the Anniversary year of 2016 together with the ClubSwan 50, the revolutionary new racing yacht. The largest ship of the Swanline is currently the SWAN 115.

Over the past three years Port Adriano has become one of the most popular events locations in Mallorca. Since it opened in 2012, the modern central section designed by Philippe Starck has provided a stage suitable not only for concerts by world-famous stars such as Supertramp and Gloria Gaynor, but also for a classic car rally and the Best of Yachting with glamorous evening entertainments. The complete programme for 2017 has not yet been published, but initial reports indicate that organisers are already planning to use the Island’s most elegant superyacht marina as the location for their parties. In June PIXX Lounge will use the pool area in front of the Coast by East restaurant for the second time as a meeting venue for German entrepreneurs, complete with entertainment and show. Axel Kahn, CEO of the PIXX advertising agency, talked to us about future events and online marketing.

Where will you be going to?

Your events are primarily aimed at clients of your agency, who go there to network. Who else would benefit from taking part?

If we were only to invite existing clients to these networking events, it would be difficult to organise up to five of them each year. The real skill lies in continuing to attract new companies to this platform. In the past few years we have

managed on average to have up to 30% of new entrepreneurs at each event. This is the only way to make networking effective. At the moment registration is open to all business men and women. Either via our newsletter, which they can order, or via social media networks.

You are planning a PIXX Lounge in Port Adriano, Mallorca for the second time in 2017.

What can we expect?

Yes, we are organising a second PIXX Lounge in Port Adriano. The first event in 2016 was very promising and the feedback confirmed our view that mixing business and lifestyle in this kind of atmosphere is perfect for successful networking.

You recently appeared as a compere at a motorsport event for the Christiane Herzog Foundation. Why did you get involved?

The Christiane Herzog Foundation is one of the oldest charities in Germany. It cares for those suffering from cystic fibrosis and funds re-

search into the disease. Over the past few years this charity has fallen a little out of the public eye, so we decided to try and raise its profile and make it more transparent by presenting it as a partner of the 2017 PIXX Lounge tour of Germany. Research into this disease needs to be driven forward. At the Porsche Cup I compered the evening event for the Attempto Porsche Team that also supports the charity.

Your PIXX advertising agency is currently establishing a platform for the design of websites that will be affordable for small companies, too. Who is it aimed at?

Website builders are ten a penny. We have developed a tool that will make every small company and start-up competitive. A website is the starting point for all the activities of a company. Our tool is mobile and responsive, and can be read on all devices, tablets and smartphones. We are operating in a digital age. 75% of people go to their smartphone to look up information rather than their PC, at home or in the office. For this reason we have developed a website service that focuses on mobility.

You offer a monthly payment plan to cover the production costs and a 24-hour service.

That is correct. For customers who go for a single one-off payment we offer a further feature. We create a Facebook page for the company in the CI of the website, free of charge. Why do we do this? Because activity on social media generates traffic and feeds search engines. This of course depends on how active the company is on social media platforms. Paying by instalments is also an option, particularly for start-ups, and we offer our 24-hour service once all the content has been delivered.

Der moderne Mitteltrakt von Designer Philippe Starck war seit der Einweihung 2012 für Live-Konzerte von Weltstars wie Supertramp und Gloria Gaynor ebenso die passende Bühne wie für eine Oldtimer-Rallye oder Best of Yachting mit glamourösen Abendveranstaltungen. Noch ist das gesamte Programm für 2017 nicht veröffentlicht, aber erste Veranstalter planen für ihre Partys den elegantesten Superjachthafen der Insel bereits als Austragungsort ein. Die Poollandschaft vor dem Restaurant Coast by East soll der PIXX Lounge im Juni zum zweiten Mal als Treffpunkt für Unternehmer zum Meet & Greet mit Entertainment und Show dienen.

Geschäftsführer der PIXX Werbeagentur ist Axel Kahn, mit ihm sprachen wir über bevorstehende Veranstaltungen und Online-Marketing.

Herr Kahn, Sie gehen 2017 mit der PIXX Lounge, Ihrer Event-Serie, auf DeutschlandTournee. Welche Stationen sind in Planung?

Wir fangen im März in Frankfurt an, dann geht es im Juni nach Düsseldorf, im September sind wir in München und im November – wie immer zum Ende des Jahres – in Baden-Baden im weltberühmten Casino.

Die Events wenden sich in erster Linie an Kunden Ihrer Agentur, die zum Networking kommen. Wer sonst kann teilnehmen?

Wenn wir ausschließlich unsere Kunden zu diesen Networking-Events einladen würden, wäre es schwer, diese bis zu fünfmal im Jahr zu veranstalten. Die große Kunst ist es, immer wieder neue Firmen auf diese Plattform zu bringen. In den vergangenen Jahren waren es im Schnitt bis zu 30 Prozent an neuen Unternehmern pro Event, die uns besucht haben. Nur so ist Networking sinnvoll. Zunächst kann sich jeder Unternehmer anmelden. Entweder über unseren Newsletter oder über die sozialen Netzwerke. Auf unserer Website findet er alle relevanten Informationen und Termine.

Sie planen 2017 zum zweiten Mal eine PIXX Lounge in Port Adriano auf Mallorca?

Ja, wir planen eine zweite PIXX Lounge in Port Adriano. Der erste Auftritt 2016 war vielversprechend, und die Resonanz bestätigt unsere Annahme, dass der Mix aus Business und Lifestyle in dieser Atmosphäre perfekt ist, um erfolgreich zu networken.

Sie waren kürzlich für die Christiane Herzog Stiftung als Moderator bei einer MotorsportVeranstaltung im Einsatz. Worum ging es Ihnen bei dem Engagement?

Die Christiane Herzog Stiftung gehört zu den ältesten Stiftungen in Deutschland und kümmert sich um mukoviszidosekranke Menschen, respektive um die Erforschung dieser Krankheit. Diese Stiftung ist in den letzten Jahren ein wenig in Vergessenheit geraten, deshalb haben wir uns entschlossen, für eine

bessere Wahrnehmung zu sorgen, indem wir sie als Partner der PIXX Lounge Deutschland Serie 2017 präsentieren und somit transparenter machen. Die Forschung für diese Erkrankung muss vorangetrieben werden. Für das Attempto Porsche Team beim Porsche Cup, das ebenfalls die Stiftung unterstützt, habe ich die Moderation der Abendveranstaltung durchgeführt.

Ihre PIXX Werbeagentur etabliert derzeit eine Plattform für Website-Gestaltung, die auch für kleine Firmen erschwinglich ist. An wen richtet sich das Angebot?

Wir haben ein Tool entwickelt, mit dem jedes kleine Unternehmen und Startup wettbewerbsfähig ist. Die Website ist immer die Ausgangsbasis aller Aktivitäten eines Unternehmens.

Unser Tool ist mobil und responsiv und somit auf allen Endgeräten, Tablets und Smartphones lesbar. Wir bewegen uns in einem digitalen Zeitalter. 75 Prozent der Menschen rufen Informationen zuallererst auf dem Smartphone auf und nicht am PC zu Hause oder im Büro.

Dafür haben wir dieses Website-Angebot mit Fokus auf Mobility entwickelt.

Sie bieten eine Finanzierung der Produktionskosten über monatliche Raten an sowie einen 24-Stunden-Service.

Das ist richtig. Dazu bieten wir dem Kunden bei einmaliger Gesamtzahlung ein weiteres Feature. Wir erstellen dem Unternehmen eine Facebook-Seite im CI der Website kostenfrei.

Warum? Weil Social-Media-Aktivitäten Traffic generieren und die Suchmaschinen füttern.

Flying eye The dream of flying is as old as mankind itself. No surprise therefore that drones are being used with enthusiasm, and not just by professionals. This summer in Ibiza Chinese manufacturer DJI wooed the young in-crowd with a boat party with DJ, followed by basic drone-flying instruction.

bird’s eye view gives us a new perspective; it makes large things appear small and offers an uninterrupted view of our surroundings. The new camera drones have long found their niche, and not just within the professional film and TV industry. Chinese manufacturer DJI, the market leader in entry-level drones, also offers semiprofessional drones with cameras and professional equipment, and in comparison tests has found itself in the top five places.

This summer the company brought the New Pilot Experience, its very own flying instruction for beginners, to Ibiza as a three-day event. A party boat with DJ brought the participants to Formentera, where they got to know one another in a relaxed atmosphere.

Flying instruction took place the following day with experienced DJI pilots showing the first-time flyers how to keep the quadcopter on course. They flew the new DJI Phantom 4 with obstacle avoidance and a 4K camera.

Its predecessor, the Phantom 3, enjoyed huge success. The upgrade has given the body a more sporting design, and its glossy finish gives it more of a premium feel. The carrying case has space for the drone, its propellers, remote control and two batteries.

To get started all you need is a fully charged battery, the propellers fitted, and a Smartphone or tablet with the DJI GO App installed attached to the remote control with a USB cable. The most important innovation is sport mode which allows you to fly the drone at speeds of up to 72kph. Ambitious aerial photographers will be rewarded with high-quality footage; the new U-shaped gim-

bal ensures first-class action shots of vehicles, motorboats or skiers. DJI’s success story began with a love of remote-controlled helicopters. Since 2006 Frank Wang’s company has been developing innovative camera technology for pioneering aerial photography. Its intelligent robotics and flight systems have been used in the film, advertising and construction industries, as well as in firefighting and agriculture. In 2015 DJI cosponsored the first Rise of the Drones Film Festival to enthuse professional and amateur pilots alike. The festival received 120 entries from 20 different countries, and with more than one million views was deemed such a success that it was repeated again this year. For all those who have never flown a drone, the New Pilot Experience provides the opportunity to learn from an experienced pilot how to control the ‘Flying Eye ‘ – in just 30 minutes. The handling is intuitive, the results spectacular. The July DJI pilot training event in Ibiza took place in front of the Es Jardins restaurant in Santa Gertrudis. Media partner of the event was DELUXE Mallorca Magazine, which held a competition to give away a trip for two.

Winner of the Facebook competition was Mallorca resident Anne Schwarzenbacher.

The New Pilot Experience is currently touring Europe and dates can be found on the DJI website. Anyone who has taken part will fully understand the hype that surrounds drones and the fun to be gained by flying them by remote control and then uploading the ‘dronies’ (drone selfies) to Facebook.

er Blick von oben eröffnet eine neue Perspektive, lässt Großes klein erscheinen und bietet freie Sicht auf die Umgebung. Längst haben die neuen Kameradrohnen nicht nur professionell im Film- und Fernsehgeschäft ihren Logenplatz gefunden.

Der chinesische Hersteller DJI gilt als Marktführer im Bereich Einsteiger-Drohnen, bietet aber auch semi-professionelle Fotodrohnen und Profi-Equipment an und schafft es bei Vergleichstests schon mal auf Platz eins bis fünf. In diesem Sommer brachte das Unternehmen erstmals die New Pilot Experience, den hauseigenen Flugunterricht für Einsteiger, als dreitägigen Event nach Ibiza. Ein Katamaran mit DJ segelte die Gäste zunächst nach Formentera, wo sie sich in relaxter Atmosphäre kennenlernten. Am nächsten Tag fand der Flugunterricht mit erfahrenen DJIPiloten statt, die den Einsteigern zeigten, wie die Quadrocopter auf Kurs gehalten werden.

Geflogen wurde die neue DJI Phantom 4 mit Anti-Kollisionsschutz und 4K-Kamera. Ihr Vorgänger, die Phantom 3, war ein großer Erfolg, mit dem Upgrade wurde das Gehäuse

sportlicher im Design und wirkt mit dem glänzenden Finish hochwertiger. Der Transportkoffer bietet Platz für Drohne, Propeller, Fernbedienung und zwei Akkus. Für den ersten Start braucht es lediglich einen geladenen Akku, montierte Propeller, ein Smartphone oder Tablet (mit der Fernsteuerung per USBKabel verbunden) sowie die darauf installierte DJI GO-App. Wichtigste Neuerung ist der Sportmodus, der Fluggeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 72 Kilometern pro Stunde zulässt.

Ambitionierte Luftfotografen werden mit hochwertigem Material belohnt, das KameraAusgleichssystem sorgt für erstklassige Actionaufnahmen von Fahrzeugen, Motorbooten oder Skifahrern. DJIs Erfolgsgeschichte begann mit der Liebe zu ferngesteuerten Helikoptern. Dogaholic Alina Zenhäuser, a young German who grew up in Mallorca and now lives in Madrid, is the face behind the label. Anyone who owns a much loved dog will immediately recognise the brilliant creativity of this collection that combines practical accessories with fashion.

ow do you find your dream job? If you were to ask Alina Zenhäuser, you combine your passion for fashion and your love of dogs and start your own company. The daughter of two creative parents, she spent her childhood in Mallorca and then moved to Madrid to do a degree in leather manufacturing. Still only 23 years old, she designs accessories for dogs that follow the fashion trends of the season. At present the collection is only available from the Dogaholic website. “Even as a little girl I made my dog Rosita a pink collar with pearls on it. When I then took her out for walks I found that people showed an interest in my dog collars. That gave me the idea of making a career out of them.” Alina’s range of accessories can be worn by both dogs and their owners. The collars can be worn as a bracelet to demonstrate the special connection between the owner and their four-legged friend. You can also attached the lead to the bracelet when out for a walk, giving you the ultimate freedom of movement. The four collections range from ‘Tropical’, with a bright orange collar with green fringing like a palm tree, to ‘Soft Pop’ with its pastel-coloured leathers.

Wie findet man seinen Traumberuf? Fragt man Alina Zenhäuser, so verbindet man seine Passion für Mode und die Liebe zum eigenen Hund und macht daraus ein Startup. Snap Inc’s Spectacles Spectacles is the name of these new sunglasses with integrated wireless video camera recently launched by the messaging app Snapchat (now Snap Inc.). They allow the wearer to take ten-second video clips at the press of a button. Available in three colours – initially only as a limited edition.

Ibiza World Club Tour in Munich Project Manager Frank Essich brought the Ibiza World Club Tour to Munich for the first time in mid-August as part of the 2016 imPark Summer Festival.

In collaboration with Mario Schneider of the music promotion agency Schneider & Friends, which has a second home in Ibiza, Milk & Sugar, Hugel and Sebastien all appeared in the DJ booth of the stage on the Olympic Park lake.

Zum ersten Mal hatte Projektleiter Frank Essich Mitte August anlässlich des imParkSommerfestivals 2016 die Ibiza World Club Tour nach München geholt. In Zusammenarbeit mit Mario Schneider von Schneider & Friends, einer Agentur für Musik-Promotion mit Zweitsitz auf Ibiza, standen Milk & Sugar, Hugel und Sebastien am DJ-Pult auf der Seebühne im Olympiapark.

Für 2017 ist eine Wiederholung geplant.

Perrier-Jouët’s Urban Jungle in Munich In August, the Champagne house in Épernay invited 200 guests to ‘The Garden by Perrier-Jouët’ at the Künstlerhaus in Munich. With creative installations by the French digital artist Miguel Chevalier, DJ sounds and the champagne of Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps, this urban jungle offered a brief escape from everyday life.

Das Champagnerlabel aus Épernay lud im August 200 Gäste ein zu „The Garden by Perrier-Jouët” in das Künstlerhaus München. Mit Installationen des französischen Digitalkünstlers Miguel Chevalier und Champagnergenuss von Kellermeister Hervé Deschamps zu DJSounds wurde der Urban Jungle zu einer kleinen Flucht aus dem Alltag.

The theme ‘Strictly White’ was chosen deliberately for Serfan’s fashion show to allow the striking coloured details on the Serfan collection to appear to best advantage. Guests including Katja Burkard and Mirja du Mont were happy to show off their glamorous allwhite outfits on the red carpet.

Janin Ullmann compered the evening together with celebrity designer Serhat Yilmaz.

Janin Ullmann fü hrte durch den Abend, gemeinsam mit StarDesigner Serhat Yilmaz.

Visiting vineyards with Deluxe Travel A three-day trip to Mallorca organised by Deluxe Travel for entrepreneurs from Germany included a visit to three bodegas with different marketing concepts. They ranged from a traditional Mallorquin vineyard to the Island’s largest finca in private ownership. Dinner at three of the best hotels on the Island also formed part of the programme. On the last day the group was entertained by a visit to the showroom of Bernd Kussmaul GmbH in Port Adriano, a short cruise with Frauscher Boats and a guided tour of the Sanlorenzo SL82 Minu by Yacht Moments, followed by a final snack of sushi at Coast by East.

Eine dreitägige Reise nach Mallorca für Unternehmer aus Deutschland führte mit Deluxe Travel zu drei Bodegas mit unterschiedlichen MarketingKonzepten. Von traditionell mallorquinisch bis hin zum Besuch der größten Finca der Insel in Privatbesitz reichte die Auswahl, zum Dinner standen drei der besten Hotels der Insel auf dem Programm. Am letzten Tag führte ein Besuch in den Showroom der Bernd Kußmaul GmbH in Port Adriano, eine Ausfahrt mit Frauscher Boats und die Führung über die Sanlorenzo SL82 Minu von Yacht Moments sorgten für Unterhaltung vor dem abschließenden Sushi-Snack im Coast by East.

This autumn, Galerie Mensing in Palma exhibited the work of artist Adam Pete. Actor Martin Semmelrogge attended the private view on 15th September and recited a limerick about a bull. A performance of flamenco dancing was a further highlight of the evening.

Die Galerie Mensing zeigte im Herbst in Palma Arbeiten des Künstlers Adam Pete. Zur Vernissage am 15. September war auch Schauspieler Martin Semmelrogge erschienen, er trug ein Limerick über einen Stier vor, eine FlamencoPerformance war ein weiteres Highlight des Abends.

EUROPA’s Best in Palma de Mallorca

In early October, a gourmet elite gathered on board the cruise liner EUROPA. Among the twelve award-winning chefs were Fernando P. Arrelano and Rafael Sánchez from Mallorca, and the most famous vintner present was German TV presenter Günther Jauch. It was the first time the gourmet festival ‘EUROPAs Beste’ had come to Mallorca. In summer temperatures guests strolled on the pool deck and sampled the dishes.

Die Gourmet-Elite versammelte sich Anfang Oktober zu „EUROPAs Beste“ an Bord des Luxusschiffes. Unter den zwölf Sterneköchen waren Fernando P. Arrelano und Rafael Sánchez aus Mallorca, prominentester Winzer war Günther Jauch, der sein Weingut von Othegraven präsentierte. In diesem Jahr machte die EUROPA dafür erstmals vor Mallorca fest. Bei sommerlichen Temperaturen flanierten die Gäste über das Pooldeck und probierten Haute Cuisine.

Mallorca is well known for its vibrant fiestas. Constantin Rahmfeld ventured out with his camera to capture these, at times, mystical occasions.

The resulting photographs of kings, devils, giants and the magic of fire formed the exhibition presented by Lutz and Edith Minkner in Santa Ponsa in the middle of October.

Master goldsmith Dietmar Beermann has also exhibited his ‘art Safire’ collection here.

Mallorca ist bekannt für schillernde Fiestas. Hier war Constantin Rahmfeld mit seiner Kamera unterwegs und beobachtete das teils mystische Treiben. So entstanden die Bilder der Ausstellung von Königen, Teufeln, Riesen und der Magie des Feuers, die Lutz und Edith Minkner Mitte Oktober in Santa Ponsa zeigten.

Hier stellte auch Goldschmiedemeister Dietmar Beermann die art Safire Kollektion vor.

Media Startup Night in Munich NERF shooting, live AMAs, GIF pitches and emoji stickers – the Media Startup Night of Bits & Pretzels 2016 at which Richard Branson was interviewed wearing Lederhosen, gave a platform to speakers from the world of media who help young start-ups.

Bits & Pretzels 2017 in Munich is already being planned.

NERF-Shooting, Live-AMAs, GIF Pitches und Emoji-Sticker – die Media Startup Night zur Bits & Pretzels 2016, bei der Richard Branson in Lederhosen interviewt worden war, ließ Speaker aus der Medienwelt zu Wort kommen, die jungen Startups helfen.

Bits & Pretzels 2017 in München ist bereits in Vorbereitung.
