THE PRINCIPLE

MAGGIS

The MAGGIS® series of cameras allows the monitoring of remote premises, even in the dark, using the standard video call feature of 3G mobile phones. It consists of 3G communication cameras, which can be placed outdoors or indoors where no DSL communication exists. Maggis is not an IP camera, and it is very different from CCTV in that it does not require any wires, except for a small power charger for the internal battery, capable of giving 300 hrs of working time. MAGGIS is quickly installed, easy to use and supports the 3G - UMTS network. The mobile phone do not requires any extra software to be downloaded onto the phone.

Outdoor camera. Can be called from a mobile phone using a video call and also the camera can trigger a video call when the contact alarm is activated. Includes night vision.

THE TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS The Maggis camera system uses the 3G mobile phone network to transmit “real-time” video and audio. The increased bandwidth of 3G, when compared with the standard GSM network, allows video applications like the ones illustrated here. The Maggis cameras comprise a camera and microphone device, infrared night vision sensors together with an integrated 3G compact modem for communication. Some models include an alarm input connection for a motion detector or a pushbutton, and when activated the camera makes a video call and prevents the administrator number (being called). Other models include a direct video output for connection to a DVR. An external 12V.dc adapter/charger is also provided. The external sensors are powered either by external adaptors or by a long life internal battery.

VIP properties Maggis and Domo Cameras allow for a number of applications suited to the monitoring of VIP properties in remote areas, like horse stables and boxes or boats and yachts in marinas, or aircrafts in hangars. Any kind of remote place without a traditional infrastructure to permit surveillance with standard IP cameras.

The video calling back alarm ability on Maggis cameras enables the system to prevent any damage from theft or vandalism, by calling the owner or the surveillance alarm center directly.

FROM CAMERA TO INDIVIDUAL (OR SINGLE) MOBILE This configuration is a simple way to link site video surveillance to any mobile phone equipped with video call function. All the cameras have the ability to receive a video call from any (password) allowed mobile phone and therefore see what is happening at the site. The models like Maggis, Maggis-Video and Domo-Call have the ability to be connected to a motion sensor or an alarm controller and in case of alarm to receive a video call directly to the mobile phone of the administrator.

Examples of applications could be: Residential applications like areas overlooking personal property. To monitor children, elderly people. Controlling livestock in countryside areas etc... Or corporate applications like areas overlooking business property, corporate perimeter.

Engineering Maggis cameras solve engineering challenges for companies managing oil or gas pipelines, when video surveillance is needed in remote areas. In such an application, several Maggis cameras have been installed at specific locations, each with their own mobile number. The cameras have also been set up with the same administrator too. The manager has two possibilities for monitoring pipelines:

When he wants to check that all is well at the sites, he video calls each of the Maggis cameras in turn and can see and hear the zone. Or, if the cameras are equipped with sensors, the manager will be automatically contacted by the camera when an alarm is detected in one pipeline zone. As a result he can see and hear in real time what the problem in this zone is.

SEVERAL CAMERAS TO ONE RECEIVER When recording or storing videos is necessary, a 3G Video gateway solution can be used, a standards-based network device that bridges the gap between the Maggis 3G cameras and IP networks like servers or PCs. The Video gateway offers a cost-effective, low-risk and scalable solution for surveillance centers, application service providers or operators who want to commercialize and deploy mobile video applications.

The Video gateway provides real-time bidirectional video and unidirectional audio from 3G Maggis mobile camera and ISDN based terminals to IP equipment such as video IVRs, streaming servers and more.

Safety Video security cameras are a useful tool for enhancing safety in public and/or secure areas. Surveillance camera systems are commonly used by retail stores, banks, and residential premises to monitor activities within a given area. A security camera allows activity to be monitored for identification, for alerting the occurrence of unwanted activity or intrusions and/ or for providing a signal that may be recorded for later reference or potential use as evidence. Typically, an operator of such a surveillance system is located at a central location from which he controls one or more camera units that are remotely positioned throughout the area to be monitored. The Maggis-Video for example offers the same video recording capabilities connected to a DVR, but the 3G capabilities offer an added value, sending only an alarm video call connection to the central operator when the intrusion has taken place. This is possible using 3G cameras in conjunction with 3G Video gateway solution, which is able to store and record alarm video calls into a server. The operator could decide to initiate actions such as sending an alert SMS to the customer or calling the police.

The Domo-Call camera offers new possibilities in vehicle surveillance. The camera is 12V.dc powered, contained in a small domo case and has the ability to call the owner when an alarm is triggered. The camera has applications in taxis or on buses for driver protection against vandalism (the driver could activate the camera with a hidden pushbutton or remote control) the video call is transmitted to a surveillance center through a 3G video gateway and the alarm could be recorded for later reference or potential use as proof of evidence.

Entertainment Maggis and Maggis-Domo offer a large field of application in entertainment video mobile streaming for marketing and publicity purposes. As a single product, each camera can be programmed to accept incoming video calls from specific mobile numbers. With regard to entertainment events (as an example), the cameras could be factory programmed in ‘open mode’ and accessed from any mobile number, thus one camera number could be publicized to offer images to one specific target.

One example could be, the placement of many cameras in one Ski Resort. The potential visitors could make a video call or send an SMS to one specific premium number and view the state of the ski slopes live, the occupation of the station and also what the weather is like at that moment.

SEVERAL CAMERAS TO SEVERAL PHONES The use of cameras in combination with 3G Video gateways enable the user to extend a variety of multimedia services from content providers that use IP-based platforms and servers to 3G and ISDN platforms in combination with pay per use services.
