If you plan to start an import-export business in India, you must obtain an Import Export Code (IEC) license. This is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The IEC code is required for companies or individuals who want to import or export goods and services from India. It is a prerequisite for opening a bank account, getting customs clearance, and availing benefits under various free trade agreements.
