OLD FORGE, NY – An Adirondack Christmas on Main Street will once again be filling the quaint, small town of Old Forge with a weekend of holiday spirit, November 23rd through 25th. Hosted by the Central Adirondack Association and the Main Street businesses, the annual event brings a weekend of Christmas experiences and activities no good boy or girl will want to miss! The three-day event brings the holiday spirit to kids of all ages, from infants to grandparents.

The festivities start bright and early Friday morning, with many businesses hosting holiday activities, contests, refreshments and sales. Make sure you check out the complete schedule on page 2. There will be Free Horse and Wagon Rides, Santa Express Train Rides, and much more.

Friday’s fun culminates with the Holiday Light Parade and Tree Lighting, with live music. The annual Reindeer Run with Antlers for kids and families will be held Sunday at 1pm. Reindeer Run starts Sunday at Gooodsell Museum!

Santas Mailbox

On Sunday head over to the Town of Webb’s Historical Society, The Goodsell Museum, for the start of the Reindeer Run. At 1pm, the museum will open its doors and welcome all to check out their free exhibit on local fire towers, “As far as the eye can see”. Kids will get free reindeer antlers and their noses painted before this fun run takes off down Main Street. Kids of all ages and dogs on leashes welcome. The Reindeer Run is quite a sight to see as the street fills with tiny antlers making their way to The Strand Theater where all runners will receive a free small popcorn and ½ price admission to Disney’s “Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet”.

As the day winds down Friday, the night will light up with a Christmas Parade down Main Street. Floats, lights, Christmas characters and of course, Santa will commence down Main Street to Point Park where the annual Tree Lighting will take place. Get your group of friends and put together a float or skit and join in the fun or just spectate the holiday celebratory procession. Christmas carols by the Tracy Family will have everyone singing their favorite holiday tune while the annual town tree will get lit.

McCauley Mountain Ski Area BIG MOUNTAIN FUN....SMALL MOUNTAIN ATTITUDE!

McCauley Mountain Ski Area opened in 1957, and quickly established a reputation as “New York’s Best Family Mountain”. That doesn’t mean milquetoast. McCauley has all the skiing and snowboarding of big mountains such as Whiteface, built into a small package. Cruising trails, steeps, glades for everyone, and double-black diamond bumps. Everything from “Oh Boy!” to “Oh Wow!” to “Oh No!” For sure, it’s safe, Adirondack family skiing. Best of all, McCauley has easier trails from the summit. Everyone gets to the top.

Nordic skiers have equal billing at McCauley Mt, with 15 kilometers of groomed woodland trails for all skill levels. The Nordic trails loop through the forests at McCauley, and connect with the trails on Maple Ridge right in the village of Old Forge.

McCauley’s racing pedigree shows through in both Alpine and Nordic skiing. Four local residents have been selected for US Olympic Ski Teams: Gary Vaughn, John “Louie” Ehrensbeck, Hank Kashiwa, and Maddie Phaneuf. Hank was also the World Professional Alpine Ski Champion, and Louie, who skied on two

US Olympic teams, is at McCauley almost every day operating his Olympic Tune Ski Shop. Maddie joined the elite group this year (2018), when she represented McCauley Mt. and the US in Biathlon at the Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Korea.

McCauley highlights include the Old Forge Winter Carnival in February, featuring a giant snow castle, fun races, torchlight skiing and fireworks.

Spring brings the renowned St Patrick’s Ski Green Weekend at McCauley. The weekend is loaded with McCauley McFun, topped off by the Pond Skimming contest. It’s Spring, so that water is plenty refreshing.

It’s not how much mountain is needed for fun; but how much fun can be packed into a mountain? McCauley Mountain’s 633 vertical foot drop contains all the skiing boasted by ski areas three times its size.

McCauley Mountain Bike Trails

The action continues when the snow fades, with mountain bikers crushing the trails at McCauley Mt. This year the MTB program at the mountain took a giant leap forward, with the development of flow trails and climbing trails. The flow trails are a fix for intermediate and advanced riders looking for downhill excitement. The cross country trails were expanded with single and double tracks.

In the spring of 2019, MTB development will continue with a climbing trail from McCauley up the south

side of Maple Ridge, and another up the north face of the ridge from Park Ave in the village. An additional flow trail down Maple Ridge to Old Forge is also in the planning stage. The program is the result of a partnership between the Town and the Central Adirondack Association, with the Adirondack Foothill Trails Alliance providing hands-on trail-building expertise and labor. AFTA also has implemented signage and mapping, available on the TrailForks.com mobile app.

Six Adirondack Scenic Railroad Christmas Trains join the Christmas On Main Celebration The Adirondack Scenic Railroad will operate six passenger trains in conjunction with the Christmas On Main celebration in Old Forge, New York. This will allow Christmas on Main visitors to experience a Holiday Season train ride with Santa, enjoy a Christmas tree lighting, and soak up the Holiday spirit in the crisp Adirondack Mountain air.

Departing from Utica on Friday, November 23rd and Saturday, November 24th, the Railroad’s Adirondack Christmas Train continues a three-decade old tradition of support for the growing economy of the central Adirondack region and Thendara-Old Forge. Tickets are selling briskly so advance reservations are strongly encouraged.

Also on November 23rd and 24th, two Santa Trains will carry Santa Claus and passengers on roundtrips from Thendara to Otter Lake. Santa Trains will depart from the Thendara Station at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The leisurely trip to the scenic Otter Lake bridge provides Santa Claus time to visit with youngsters of all ages.

For years, these popular Christmas Trains have marked the conclusion of the historic and excursion railroad’s operating seasons. While final 2018 ridership figures are not available, Railroad General Manager Jack Roberson says preliminary numbers suggest the 2018 season is the best in at least a decade.

Roberson notes that the Fall 2018 leaf season trains were sold out with additional cars often added to handle the demand. The long trains and large crowds mean that Railroad volunteers and employees will be hard at work during the first half of 2019. Cars and locomotives, which were in continuous service for six months, will get needed repairs, improvements, and upgrades.

“Adirondack Scenic will also be revising its operating plans to create 2019 schedules and support events that respond to passenger requests and feedback,” Roberson said. The Railroad will also enhance the passenger experience at Thendara and Big Moose including expanding local options for transportation, dining, water sports, and shopping.

Old Forge, NY - Each year the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks collects and distributes gifts and toys to special families in Woodgate, White Lake, Otter Lake, Thendara, Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Raquette Lake, Long Lake and Indian Lake.

Central Adirondack Kiwanis partners with The Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program for its annual Christmas for Kids project. In addition, to the gifts collected locally, the Marine Corps Reserve allows Kiwanis to visit their Christmas Gift Warehouse and select appropriate gifts for the children on Santa’s List. Kiwanis Member Bill Ransom will be coordinating with The Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” efforts in the Central Adirondacks.

This very worthwhile Central Adirondack Kiwanis program provides gifts and toys to over 300 children in the Central Adirondack region noted above.

Gift and Toy collection locations will be at Adirondack Bank, Community Bank, Inlet Department Store (ACE), Kinney Drugs, Old Forge Department Store (ACE), Old Forge Hardware, Smith Marine, Souvenir Village and VIEW. In addition, there are toy collection sites at the following Post Offices; Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Thendara, Woodgate, and Raquette Lake.

Kiwanis members Linda Kurtz and Dawn Lenci are Co-Chairs for this special project.

Kiwanis invites the community to consider leaving a gift or toy at one of the collections locations. The gift and toy collection period runs from Thursday, November 15 until Monday, December 17.

The Key Club and Builders Club of the Town of Webb School assists Kiwanis with this important holiday project and will participate in the gift-wrapping party that is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19 at VIEW beginning at 3:00 PM. You are welcome to participate.

43rd Annual Snodeo coming December 7th - 9th at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center!

OLD FORGE, NY – The Central Adirondack Association will be kicking off the 2018-2019 snowmobile season with the 43rd Annual Snodeo at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center on December 7th-9th. The North Street pavilion will be filled with sleds, gear and accessories that no snowmobile enthusiast will want to miss. All four major manufacturer’s (Arctic Cat, Polaris, Ski Doo & Yamaha) will be on hand with their 2019 models, plus vendors galore including Cho-Ko, Klim, Sledfreak, RPM Apparel and many more. With over 40 vendors, you’ll be sure to be able to get everything on your Christmas shopping list in just one location.

Snodeo will open its doors, Friday, December 7th, from 3-6pm. Food will be provided by the North Woods Women’s Club.

On Saturday, Snodeo will open from 9am-5pm. The Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap will begin with registration at 9am. Awards will be given in seventeen different categories including Best of Show and People’s Choice, at 2pm. There is a $5 entry fee per sled, pre-registration is not required.

At Noon, the ever popular Kitty-Kat and 120cc Youth Snowmobile Races will begin. Parents or guardians must register racers in the pavilion beginning at 10am. Safety gear such as helmets and boots are required. All youth racers will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, with an award ceremony at 4 pm.

New this year, a 120 super mod class for the more experienced racer. There is no fee to register thanks to sponsorship by the Old Forge Camping resort.

Special visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus from Noon -4 pm, as well as door prizes all day!

Saturday evening celebrations take place throughout town as each snowmobile manufacturer will host parties with food, beverage specials and givea-ways.

Snodeo will be open on Sunday, December 9th, from 10 am- 2pm. At 1 pm, raffle drawings begin with the 2018 Indy Polaris 120. Tickets are only $5 a piece. Drawings will also take place for a brand new 2019 snowmobile and five cash prizes. One lucky winner will have their choice of one of the following; 2019 Polaris 600 Indy-XC 129 with electric start from Don’s Polaris, 2019 Ski Doo MXZ TNT 600 ETEC from Smith Marine, $10,000 towards the Arctic Cat of your choice or $10,000 towards the Yamaha of your choice.

Second prize winner will receive $1,000, third place is $500, with fourth prize $300 and fifth and sixth prizes $100 each. Winners must be present to win cash prizes. Tickets are $20 a piece, with only 1,500 sold. They are available at the Old Forge Information Center and online at Snodeo.com, as well as at the pavilion all weekend long.
