BICYCLING EDUCATION

Reaching Adults through Bicycle Friendly Universities

U

UNIVERSITIES HAVE LONG served as incubators for developing bikefriendly cultures and practices, and that has a big impact on the expectations that students bring to the workplace and beyond. BFU is a new focus area for our educational outreach. The BFU program provides a great venue to promote bicycling to the next generation of American workers. College is an opportunity for one to get reacquainted with the bicycle. To students, the bike no longer serves as just a source of freedom: it is the solution to limited parking, a fast way to navigate through campus, and a cheap means of transportation for students adjusting to life on a budget. We understand the importance of educating these eager riders, but how do we reach those who are hesitant to make bicycling their choice to get to class? Stanford University, a platinum BFU, found the solution – education.
