It promises to be a timely and unmissable opportunity to get up close and personal with the very latest products and the brands behind them and, of course, BiKBBI and The Installer team will be heading along and hope to see you there!

Martin Allen-Smith Editor, The Installer
It has been a busy few months for the team at BiKBBI as we welcomed five new corporate sponsors, all pledging their support to the KBB installation sector. Their sponsorship enables us to continue our vital work on improving education, standards and compliance in the sector, ultimately driving positive change for the whole industry. You can read more about our new sponsors in the BiKBBI Update starting on page 6.
We were also pleased to announce a new retail installation standards partner, The Bathroom Place, who joined in March, adding to our growing lineup of retailers working with us to deliver a robust installation proposition for their customers. Disappointingly, the Spring budget didn’t deliver anything game-changing for small businesses, or indeed the home improvement sector, and the first two quarters of the year so far have been turbulent for all – installation, retailing and manufacturing all seem to be reporting a mixed bag of results so far. Collaboration is so important in times of uncertainly and BiKBBI will continue to support the industry through sharing, learning and exploring opportunities.

LEADING EXAMPLE BY
South Coast-based firm The Kitchen & Bathroom Installer scooped the prestigious Installation Business of the Year accolade at this year’s BiKBBI Awards. Founder Graham Parnell shares his experience of winning and the and the path that led to this success.
PLEASE TELL US A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS AND HOW IT HAS GROWN.
I started the business in 2012 after being made redundant by a local maintenance company that went into administration. Initially, I started off carrying out planned maintenance works for housing associations. After a brief period, I realised this wasn’t for me so moved into
the domestic market.
In 2019, I decided to specialise in kitchen and bathroom installation. Then the pandemic hit causing massive disruption to the business. This gave me the opportunity to develop a business plan and while carrying out research I came across a company called Liberty Fitting Service based in Dundee. They had just won the Installation Business of the Year for BiKKBI and really stood out from the crowd.
bikbbi.org.uk 14 BiKBBI Awards
This influenced my decision to join BiKBBI, as none of my competitors were registered. It opened up multiple workstreams for the business and was a great selling point to potential clients. Sales have grown year-on-year and we are currently recruiting more installers to cope with demand.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CORE PRINCIPLES THAT DEFINE THE BUSINESS AND THE WAY IN WHICH YOU WORK?
Our core principles are customer satisfaction in tandem with quality workmanship. You really cannot have one without the other. From the outset, we always ensure that we understand what the customer wants and then make sure we deliver it. We carry out a pre installation survey for every job, which enables us to provide a detailed quotation for the customer. This helps us to identify any issues that we may potentially have with the installation, avoiding the dreaded additional costs / extras on the final invoice.
Our core principles are customer satisfaction in tandem with quality workmanship
Sometimes this is unavoidable but this is when communication is key. We always discuss options with the customer and agree on pricing before undertaking additional works. At the end the of the day, happy customers = positive reviews. Positive reviews = bigger social proof. Bigger social proof = more work!
WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO WIN INSTALLATION BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AT THE BIKBBI AWARDS EARLIER THIS YEAR?
Following the 2023 Awards, I told my wife I was going to win an award at this year’s event and set out a plan of how to achieve it. For all the time and effort to pay off was a great achievement, especially as the other finalists were all multi award winners. That doesn’t mean
bikbbi.org.uk 15 BiKBBI Awards
the hard work now stops. It just means we have an even greater reputation to maintain.
WHAT DID IT SUBSEQUENTLY MEAN FOR THE BUSINESS, EITHER INTERNALLY OR HOW IT IS PERCEIVED BY CUSTOMERS?
Winning the Installation Business of the Year Award means several things. Firstly, it’s a recognition of excellence within the industry, which will hopefully boost our reputation and credibility. Secondly, it serves as validation for our hard work and dedication towards installation. Additionally, it has attracted new clients who are seeking top-quality service providers. Overall, it’s a powerful endorsement that will significantly elevate our business in the eyes of
customers and competitors alike.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO OTHER BIKBBI MEMBERS WHO ARE CONSIDERING ENTERING NEXT YEAR?
Just go for it! It will only take five minutes to enter for an award, but the hard work will really have to start from now. Be active on social media and connect with people within the industry, especially places like Instagram and LinkedIn. The more you put yourselves out there, the more chance you have being recognised. Make sure you keep getting reviews from customers on sites such as Google My Business. This will show how you care about customer service as well as your quality of work. And most importantly – good luck!!

SHOWERING SOLUTIONS
Mike Gahir, Managing Director at Lakes Showering Spaces, explains why the brand’s new modular walk-in collection is a game-changer
While consumer trends in the bathroom industry will always evolve and change, there are certain qualities businesses in this space can embody that will always be in fashion – quality, design and service excellence.
At Lakes Showering Spaces, we take pride in doing things the right way, whether that’s by creating high quality products that offer installers time and stress saving benefits through high quality production, or using our skills and knowledge to support our customers across the UK.
OUR HISTORY
Lakes is an award-winning family-run business, manufacturing innovative showering spaces including walk-ins and bath screens and was established in 1986. We pride ourselves on designing and producing products that meet the needs of today’s installer as well as our environmental responsibility, introducing 100% recycled packaging on all of our products in 2019 and achieving the Carbon Footprint Standard in March 2019 – the first company in the sector to become a Carbon Neutral Plus organisation.
2024 is a big year for the bathroom industry and for us personally. We’ve recently completed a management buy-out – a significant milestone in our history as a company – signalling a renewed commitment to excellence and forward-thinking leadership. Under the guidance of our
for installers
new owners, we’re poised to continue upholding the highest standards of quality, design, and customer service in our industry.
Beyond that, the launch of our new Modular Walk-In collection is a huge moment for us in 2024.
MODULAR WALK-IN
Hot on the heels of our Wave range expanding last year with black and brushed brass – both of which have been popular with installers and consumers alike – we’re building on the momentum we’ve created.
This innovative range represents a bold departure from conventional shower enclosures, offering consumers unparalleled flexibility and customisation options. With 28 configuration choices, six stunning colour finishes, and a wide array of glass panel thicknesses and hardware selections, the Modular Walk-in collection caters to the diverse needs and preferences of modern homeowners
The collection highlights our commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and functionality, epitomising our values when it comes to craftsmanship, innovation, and customer-centricity.
For installers, modular equipment offers a potentially huge upside when it comes to time and money savings. By using standardised, preengineered components, there is a reduced emphasis on working with new materials or even brands in order to meet the very specific requirements of
your customer.
This is a real game-changing launch for Lakes. We are incredibly proud to be bringing our reputation for high quality, stylish and installer friendly products into the walk-in market. Demand for products that offer personalisation for the consumer while making the lives of bathroom retailers, designers, and specifiers easier is growing all the time and we’re confident that now is the right time for our modular walk-in range to launch.
Whatever your showering space demand, style need, scale or budget, our intelligent designs and market leading engineering mean there is a solution for everyone.
PRODUCT GUARANTEE AND INSTALLER SUPPORT
Another key factor in our success comes from our
bikbbi.org.uk 18 Shower solutions
unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. Our ‘No Quibble’ guarantee and exemplary customer service have earned us a sterling reputation within the industry. By prioritizing transparency, reliability, and integrity, Lakes has cultivated a loyal customer base and earned the trust of installers, homeowners, retailers, and industry professionals alike.
Our corporate sponsorship of BiKBBI is also a signifier of our commitment to supporting installers in a wider sense. Our drive to make a positive difference does not end with our products and service to our customers.
We are committed to doing more for the wider KBB sector and we recognise the importance of engagement with
the installation sector – we fully support the work that BiKBBI is doing and are keen to play an active role going forward.
SUSTAINABILITY
A key part of being able to support installers and the wider industry is having our finger on the pulse, particularly when it comes to hot topics such as sustainability.
At Lakes Showering Spaces, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a core pillar of our ethos. In recent years, we’ve taken significant steps towards enhancing sustainability while navigating the challenges of the current age.
From 2019 to 2023, we achieved a remarkable 24%
Modular equipment offers a potentially huge upside when it comes to time and money savings
reduction in carbon emissions by optimizing delivery routes and transitioning our sales team car fleet to electric vehicles.
Embracing innovation, we introduced 100% recyclable packaging too, eliminating millions of pieces of polystyrene and plastic banding annually. This packaging reengineering initiative not only reduced freight requirements by 35% but also minimised associated carbon emissions.
THE FUTURE
As Lakes embarks on our next chapter with a dynamic leadership team at the helm, exciting new products and a bold vision for the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

MORE SPEED, Greater Efficiency
Justin
Crofts, Category Manager – Furniture Construction, at Häfele UK, outlines how installers can work smarter and improve their efficiency.
With a skills shortage across the construction sector, installers often face time pressure, needing to deliver more with fewer hands and hours. Fortunately, leading manufacturers have a number of products designed with speed and ease firmly in mind.
At Häfele, one of the ways we help to improve efficiency for installers is to make furniture construction as tool-free as possible. IXConnect spreading connector SC 8/25 is a one-piece connector that requires no glue, dowels or tools to install.
Simple in design and entirely concealed once complete, the connector has been developed as a patented piece of technology to dramatically improve furniture manufacturing, by offering a simple and efficient
‘plug and push’ process.
To use, installers can push the connectors into an 8mm hole before pushing the panel components together by hand, triggering both bolt components of the connector to synchronously expand in the drill hole. Used for cabinets, small furniture items, and drawers, the connectors feature a fixed concealed connection, which means the panels won’t come apart.
Made for a minimum thickness of 15mm, the IXConnect spreading connector is made from plastic and can be used in MDF and chipboard panels in combination with wooden dowels.
Likewise, our iconic Minifix allows installers to quickly create
90-degree mitre joints with ease and is completely concealed when installed. This unique connector – of which we produce 3.2m each day – is a patented design, based on the principle of having a hemispherical head. As well as thinking about ways to make it easier to achieve a high-quality finish quicker, we’re also helping installers to make lighter work of tasks.
Levelling cabinetry can be, quite literally, a backbreaking repetitive task that takes time to get ‘just right’. And the same goes for fitting plinths and wardrobes. Thanks to clever plinth adjusting and fitting systems like Axilo by Häfele however, that need not be the case. Ergonomically designed, it reduces the risk of back-related
Installation efficiency bikbbi.org.uk 20
injuries, and helpfully can cut kitchen unit assembly times by almost half. Again, simple tools like this are a great way to improve on-the-job efficiency and enable installers to get through more work in less time.
Beyond time saving products, we’ve developed services that reduce a lot of the leg work for installers. Service+ is our suite of services all designed to save time and increase efficiency. Through Service+ Customised, installers can specify products to exact sizes, quantity and finish, which are then delivered cut to exact measurements and pre-assembled as required. While customers regularly use this service for items such as wardrobe rails or sliding door gear, joiners and kitchen fitters can also use Service+ Customised for bespoke timber drawers and worktops.
Crafting beautiful, handmade bespoke timber drawers takes skill, care, attention, and time, but sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Through the service, customers can order handmade, solid timber drawers
personalised to their needs and complete with full dovetail joints, usually in just a two-week turnaround. Likewise, our new Bespoke Worktop Service helps customers achieve precise, entirely customisable designs while also saving time during the installation process.
A similar approach can also be taken to lighting. Loox by Häfele is a simple, modular plug and play system, meaning installers can easily incorporate it into kitchen designs to create that all important wow factor. As well
as being easy to fit, it is easy to design too thanks to Häfele’s free of charge Lighting Design Service that gives users a bespoke lighting plan, product list and quote in just three simple steps.
By choosing manufacturers who prioritise time-saving products and services, installers can help increase their efficiency on site while still upholding the highest standards and their reputation.

WONDER WALL:
Your wall panel questions answered
Steph Harris, Product Manager at Showerwall, answers some of the top questions installers have about tile-effect panels – an increasingly popular choice for bathroom walls that combines the look and feel of tiles with the functionality of panels.
HOW REALISTIC IS THE TILE EFFECT?
Many homeowners want the look of tiles but not the hassle of keeping them clean. Thanks to advances in design and manufacturing technology, the newest tile-effect panels replicate the laying pattens, texture and finishes of the real thing. Key to recreating the look and feel of tiles is a realistic grout line – but one that is still easier to clean. Decors in Showerwall’s new Laminate Tile Collection feature a CNC routed groove
that mimics a grout line, but with a smoother surface that is easier to wipe down and harbours less dirt build-up.
ARE PANELS FASTER TO FIT THAN TILES?
Absolutely. They can be installed up to 50% faster in most cases, and there’s no need to source wet trades to complete a bathroom renovation job. It’s worth choosing panels that utilise a T&G click system, as they are easy to use and deliver seamless, almost invisible joints.
The panels simply slot together using a mechanical locking system, with no need for joining trims.
HOW CAN I ENSURE THE PANELS ARE WATERPROOF?
When fitted correctly using the Proclick T&G and installation trims, Showerwall’s tile-effect panels are a 100% waterproof system, with a 30-year guarantee. The panels are easily clicked together, and trims are used to protect and frame the
bikbbi.org.uk 24
Wall panels
outer edges. The base of the panel is fitted with Sureseal, which is maintenance-free and requires no future resealing; it’s a fit and forget system.
CAN PANELS BE FITTED OVER TILES?
Yes, tile-effect panels can be installed over existing wall tiles. Simply make sure the tiles are clean and degreased; that they are free from cracks and damage; and that the existing wall is plumb and flat.
ARE THE PANELS EASY TO WORK WITH?
The short answer is yes! Panels in the Laminate Tile Collection measure 600mm wide, making them easy to handle and manoeuvre upstairs and in small spaces. Plus, each panel is supplied pattern-matched, so installers don’t need to physically align the tile print on each panel, when fitting to the wall.
CAN PANELS REPLICATE DIFFERENT TILE LOOKS?
Tile trends are constantly evolving and there are panel designs available that replicate some of today’s most popular
styles and laying patterns. The vintage herringbone look has been trending for some time and works well in both traditional and contemporary bathroom schemes. Solid colours such as petrol blues and whites create a clean and modern feel, while marble and cement-effect herringbone panels add depth for a spa-inspired look.
Large format tiles are also in demand, helping to create a luxury hotel vibe. Plus, larger rectangular and square tileeffects can enhance the sense of space in smaller bathrooms, so they are a good option for busy family bathrooms and en-suites. Another tile trend to carry over into panels is the woodgrain effect. Introducing the texture and warming natural tones of wood into bathrooms has long been desirable but not a practical option, in areas where water is present. Woodgrain-effect tiles have become a popular alternative and woodgrain-effect panels are now available too. Featuring large format planks, these panels can be used to introduce the natural beauty of timber and create a Scandi sauna feel in showering spaces.
Showerwall manufactures 100 Laminate, Acrylic and Compact designs including 23 decors which are new for 2024. For the first time, tile-effect panels are available in its Laminate T&G Click panel range with the new Tile Collection.
A comprehensive package of support is available for installers for the new designs, including a free sample service, online visualiser tool and installation training videos. Bathroom installers can also register for Showerwall’s Find a Fitter scheme to receive leads from homeowners looking for local professional wall panel installation.

which will make an installation easier and simpler.
This is where the idea for Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-PS and Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-DUO-PS came about, as the Peel & Stick variants remove the need to use cementitious tile adhesive to bond the membrane to the substrate, simplifying and speeding up the installation process. They provide all of the same benefits as the original DITRA-HEAT/-DUO and are an ideal solution for tiling onto P5 chipboard and other timber substrates.
Featuring a thin layer of
pre-applied pressure sensitive adhesive on the underside, the membrane bonds firmly to the substrate once pressure has been applied. However, before pressure is applied it can easily be lifted and repositioned. 5 WAYS CHATGPT CAN HELP YOUR BUSINESS
Generative AI has experienced rapid adoption and, although still a work in progress, generative apps can be useful for producing ideas or starting a creative task. Lisa Watson, Social Media Marketing Manager at Toolbot, shares five ideas for using ChatGPT in your business…
1 GENERATE EMAIL TEMPLATES
After a day on the tools, the last thing you want to do is write an email to send a quote. Why not ask ChatGPT to write the email for you, adapt it, and save it as a template for the future? For example, type the following into a ChatGPT prompt:
“Please write an email to enclose a quote to a customer from my electrical business”.
All you need to do is amend the text and send it to your customer.
2 CREATE A CUSTOMER FEEDBACK SURVEY
Customer surveys gauge your business reputation, and you can publish positive results on social media, showing new customers why they should hire you over the competition. For example, create social posts to say “98% of our customers were happy with the work we carried out”, or “97% of our customers say we are on time”.
To start, ask ChatGPT to create a feedback form for your business:
“Please create a customer service feedback survey to ask my customers if they are happy with the work carried out by my plumbing business”.
With your list of questions, use a tool such as Google Forms to collect the answers.
3
CREATE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS
Posting on social media shows off your work and builds trust, but it’s not always easy coming up with ideas. This is one of ChatGPT’s strengths: it was born for generating ideas. Following on from the previous idea of a customer survey, give your results to ChatGPT and ask for suggestions:
“Please create a series of 5 LinkedIn posts to showcase the results of our customer service survey feedback [insert your survey results]”.
Then prompt using other social channels and subjects to create a month’s worth of content.
4 GENERATE BLOG IDEAS
While blogs might feel old tech in the age of TikTok and AI, they are standing the test of time. Blog posts are ideal for creating SEO content, raising your Google rankings so customers find you. Frequent content refreshes your website, encourages customers to return, and enables you to repurpose content for other channels or use in newsletters. That said, coming up with ideas can be challenging. Generative AI is particularly good at lists, so for example, ask ChatGPT:
“Please generate 10 blog post ideas for a landscaping company that helps give their customers ideas for summer projects”.
You can then take each idea and ask for help to write the blog post.
5 WRITE AN EMAIL TO A LATE PAYING CUSTOMER
Hopefully your customers pay on time, but when they don’t, it can create stress and cash-flow issues. ChatGPT can’t make your client pay, but it eliminates the headache of writing an email to request payment:
“Please write a formal email to a customer whose invoice has been outstanding for six weeks”.
Again, you can save this as a template to reuse.
As you can see, ChatGPT can speed up some of the jobs you do on a daily basis in your trade business. Keep experimenting and have fun, but always remember to check the output for accuracy. And just so you know, this article was written by a human, and not a bot!

SLIMLINE Taking the approach
With compact laminate worksurfaces having emerged as a viable alternative to traditional materials like stone and quartz, kitchen installers have an opportunity to benefit from a number of installation features. Elliott Fairlie, Product Lead at Bushboard, reveals the top three advantages of working with ultra-slim kitchen worksurfaces following a refresh of the brand’s Zenith range.
It’s no secret that ultra-slim worktops have established themselves at the core of the latest kitchen trends. A growing number of homeowners are keen to capitalise on the ‘barelythere’ trend for thin yet durable worktops – and it’s now possible to do so with choice products that have the same premium aesthetic as natural marble, stone or quartz, but without the costly price tag. What’s more, the latest ultra-slim kitchen worksurfaces are simple to work with and easy to maintain.
Innovations like Bushboard’s recently refreshed Zenith range, for instance, enable installers to work with a premium product that has an
exponentially growing appeal.
Each worksurface, breakfast bar and upstand from the Zenith range is made from premium compact laminate which has been manufactured to achieve an ultra-slim profile.
By understanding the main advantages of ultra-slim worksurfaces, installers have the chance to offer a versatile product that is ideal for any kitchen project, regardless of their customer’s budget.
ON-SITE INSTALLATION
Working with high-end kitchen surfaces that are simple to fit is crucial to achieving the desired finish for any kitchen project in a timely fashion. Unlike quartz or
stone that can take up to half a day of precise measuring, prior to fabrication, Zenith surfaces can be easily cut, shaped, finished and fitted on-site using standard installation tools.
This helps to avoid the time typically linked with travelling, measuring and cutting a ‘natural material’ worktop off-site, making life easier for both the installer and their customer. Zenith worksurfaces can be cut to size and installed in the home in just one day, with the correct tools and planning.
DESIGN POSSIBILITIES
Compact laminate worksurfaces provide additional flexibility thanks to their design
bikbbi.org.uk 38
Slim worksurfaces
By understanding the advantages of ultra-slim worksurfaces, installers can offer a versatile product that is ideal for any kitchen project, regardless of their customer’s budget
innovation. Surfaces like Zenith, with its solid-coloured core, can be cut to shape and refinished without the need for additional edging. For instance, incorporating drain grooves into this 12mm ultraslim worksurface is now a straightforward task, allowing the homeowner to benefit from both its functionality and contemporary aesthetic.
NO NEED FOR SPECIALIST TOOLS
To ensure a new worktop installation is as kind to an installer’s schedule as it is to their customer’s budget, Zenith surfaces can be easily fitted using standard tools that are required for any standard laminate worktop installation. This eliminates the complex and often expensive fitting process associated with equivalent stone and quartz surfaces.
The tools required are:
• Handheld circular saw with guide rail and dust extraction;
• Router;
• Sanding tools;
• D rill;
• B iscuit jointer and clamps.
When it comes to finishing, using the correct adhesive is crucial to the longevity of the compact laminate worksurface. Bushboard’s bespoke Complete adhesive and sealant is available in a range of colours to complement the designs and decors within the Zenith product range.
A WEALTH OF OPPORTUNITY
Compact laminate worksurfaces provide kitchen installers with an opportunity to create a wider appeal around this project category than ever before. Stunningly designed
and effortlessly hardwearing, Zenith’s versatile nature lends itself to be used across a variety of surface applications, including worktops, splashbacks, breakfast bars and upstands.
In doing so, it brings a host of key advantages too, be it the ease of on-site fitting or fulfilling the specific needs of a customer; ultra-slim compact laminate worksurfaces like Zenith can help installers maximise every opportunity, in what is an evercompetitive industry.

Your JARGON-FREE guide to installers insurance
Insurance can sometimes be complex and confusing, and it can be hard to find time to understand the detail of what each type of insurance covers.
Olly Chanot of Marsh Commercial has written a jargon-free guide to the key things you need to know about insurance for installers…
Whether you install independently or through a retailer, you and your business will likely face various daily risks and challenges. You can prepare for and mitigate some of these risks by adopting the right policies and procedures to prevent incidents. However, should the unexpected happen, having the right insurance will provide financial protection against potential damages, liabilities, and other unforeseen events that could negatively impact you, your business, your employees, and your profit.
Many clients will only employ installers who hold relevant insurance. This provides protection that should anything go wrong with the project, they won’t be financially affected, and your insurance will cover legal costs and compensation if need be.
Installer insurance: or contractors insurance as sometimes it is referred to; is a type of insurance policy designed to cover risks associated with being a tradesperson. It is often a packaged policy, which means some of the most common can be grouped together for you.
bikbbi.org.uk 41
Installers insurance
These can include:
Public liability
If any third-party property is damaged, people are injured on-site, or they become unwell due to your business while completing an installation, you may have to pay legal costs to defend a claim. Public liability insurance can cover these legal costs and protect against any compensation payouts if your business is found liable.
Employers liability
If you employ one person or more—even subcontractors— you must have employer liability insurance. This is a legal requirement; the UK government warns that you could face fines of up to £2,500 a day if you don’t. If you only employ immediate family members, it is not a legal requirement to have employers liability insurance, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have it. With this insurance, you’ll be protected against compensation costs if your employees are injured or fall ill because of their work. Without this cover, you and your business will be exposed to fines and penalties; you may also find you’re not entitled to work on specific installation projects.
Professional indemnity
Even the most experienced tradespeople can make mistakes. Suppose your client suffers a financial loss because of the services or advice you’ve given, or perhaps you breach confidence or copyright. In that case, professional indemnity insurance will protect your business against the costs you may face, covering any compensation payable and legal fees defending the claim against you.
Tools and stock
This insurance protects buildings, stock, tools, and vehicles from damage, theft, or loss, ensuring business continuity.
Legal expenses
Business legal expenses insurance can cover unforeseen legal costs related to property and employment or legal representation for serious issues such as employment tribunals or contract disputes.
Efficacy cover
Also known as ‘failure to perform’ cover, if you are found liable for injury to third parties or damage to third-party property when a product or service you supply fails to perform its intended function, efficacy cover protects you from any losses.
Personal accident cover
If you suffer a severe accident or illness (in your personal life or at work) and are unable to work, personal accident insurance would help cover your monthly bills.
Directors and officers
Protects you if you are found personally responsible for a wrongful act as a director or officer.
Marsh Commercial
Other types of insurance include:
Contents insurance – if you have business premises, your equipment, such as portable computers and phones, are not covered by standard policies. Installer contents insurance protects your business property.
Cyber insurance – you’ll likely use technology to collect and store customer and supplier data. Cyber insurance offers protection against cyber threats.
Business interruption insurance – protects your business if an incident that’s covered prevents your business from working effectively and impacts your earnings. Goods in transit insurance - covers your products or equipment whilst between jobs or out on deliveries.
Contractors’ all-risk insurance – will protect your tools, materials, and equipment when you use them on-site.
Contract works insurance – covers work underway on a site and is designed to help cover the cost of repairing or redoing work that’s in progress if it is damaged by an insured event like fire, flood, storm, vandalism or theft. Contractors’ plant insurance – covers the cost of replacing or repairing plant and equipment affected by an insured incident, such as theft, fire, or flood. Cover is available for both owned and hired plants.

Previous models, however, have left customers in the dark when it comes to monitoring estimated water usage and cost per shower.
ENVi enables users to monitor their activity through such metrics, providing subsequent feedback to inspire cost-conscious behaviour. The shower’s ecomode takes this a step further by prompting users to reduce their shower time by one minute, an incremental change that could make a monumental difference. If just 1% of UK households were to cut their daily shower time by one minute on average, this could save over 673m litres of water, equivalent to 270 Olympic swimming pools. It could also
save nearly 6.7m kg CO2e, the equivalent of removing 3,950 cars from the UK’s roads.
The key role of installers
Rightfully viewed as trusted advisors by homeowners across the UK, installers are crucial to recommending the latest bathroom appliances. Encouraging innovative solutions, like ENVi, will also help installers to promote environmental
action in the form of a costeffective yet premium bathroom upgrade.
Research conducted by Triton found that showering with an electric unit could save 29,000 litres of water per year compared to a mixer shower, creating the opportunity to save 300kg CO2e – the equivalent of driving 1,050 miles in a diesel hatchback. By using an electric shower, homeowners can make significant

water and energy savings, generating long-term financial savings in the process. Many households rely on the expertise and advice from plumbing installers to recommend the most suitable bathroom appliances for their home. In light of an unprecedented increase in water and energy bills over recent years, educating homeowners on the most efficient products available will prove invaluable in creating short- and long-term cost savings.
Installers can also direct homeowners to tools like Triton’s Energy and Water Savings Calculator which, through inputting simple questions about household occupants and their typical showering habits, can provide personalised tips and the subsequent cost savings available by making small habitual changes to showering routines.
Driving sustainability
The ENVi has been created with Triton’s philosophy that ‘every drop makes a difference’ in mind, and features a full-colour digital control panel that provides water, energy, and cost feedback on individual
shower use. The manufacturer says its latest offering is an industry first and showcases its commitment to becoming the most sustainable shower brand in the UK – taking it one step closer to its target of net zero by 2035. ENVi leads the way in the future of increasingly efficient and sustainable solutions in the bathroom to save water, energy, and money, while providing a stylish showering experience.
Triton is also taking responsibility for its carbon emissions and ENVi is Triton’s first ClimatePartner certified product. The brand has calculated the carbon footprint of the full lifecycle of the ENVi shower and is investing in climate projects to fully compensate for these emissions. The work has been verified and accredited by ClimatePartner, an independent partner who has helped Triton to identify projects that reduce or remove carbon emissions and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to improve lives.

Kitchens Go Large
Homeowners are making significant structural changes to kitchens, opting for bigger and more open spaces, according to a survey from home renovation and design platform Houzz.
The 2024 Kitchen Trends survey from Houzz found that homeowners are increasingly dedicating more space to their kitchens during renovations, with three in five homeowners making their kitchens bigger (60%; up 6 percentage points from 2023). A quarter of homeowners increased the total size of the room by more than half of the original size (25%)
Interest in open-plan kitchens which can make the space feel larger is also strong. More than two in five homeowners make their kitchen more open to nearby rooms as part of their renovations (45%) and a third opt for a completely open-plan design with no wall separations (33%). Kitchens are becoming more open to the outdoors (46%), most often via a set of double doors or a row of doors (39%).
Marine Sargsyan, Houzz Staff Economist, said: “Creating a
bigger and more open kitchen appeals to homeowners for both functional and aesthetic reasons, but doing so may impact the project’s overall budget, requiring more technical changes. We’re seeing homeowners make significant structural updates during their kitchen renovations, such as layout or location changes, which require the expertise of professionals.”
Among the 500 renovating homeowners questioned, 71% were reconfiguring the kitchen’s layout and 62% upgrading plumbing, electrical or heating systems. The share of renovating homeowners making other structural changes like modifying kitchen walls (43%) and moving the kitchen’s location (24%) both grew year on year (up 4% and 2%, respectively).

Tradespeople are the professionals most commonlyhired for kitchen renovations (68%), followed by kitchen fitters and designers (51% and 50%, respectively). Hiring home builders for kitchen renovations rose 9 points during 2023 (40% compared to 31% the previous year).
Along with growing substantial structural changes
to the kitchen, the median spend on kitchen renovations is up 8% from the previous year to £13,000. For large kitchens, the median spend is £15,000 and for smaller kitchens this is £9,000. Despite these rising costs, homeowners are saving up for these projects, with 34% of renovating homeowners citing having financial means as a key motivator for starting their kitchen update, up 4 points year on year.

Look and feel: How the material looks and feels is the most important factor when selecting cabinetry, flooring and worktops (82%, 78% and 71%, respectively). An upgraded kitchen being easy to clean and disinfect is less of a motivator for homeowners this year, dropping 4 points (38%). While it is still a popular motivator for selecting certain materials, the share of homeowners who upgrade their cabinetry, flooring and worktops (39%, 48% and 41%) based on this factor has dropped significantly (6%, 3%, 5%, respectively).
Brass fixtures on the rise: Brushed nickel continues to be the most popular finish for handles (22%), however, the share of homeowners opting for brass has doubled year on year (14%, compared to 7% in 2023), overtaking chrome (10%) as the second most popular choice.

Bathroom brand HiB has launched HiB Sanitaryware, a new evolution in the company’s product portfolio. With a focus on elevating bathroom spaces, the brand’s latest offering aims to redefine the standard of beauty and functionality for both large and small bathroom projects.
Building on the success of HiB’s existing product lines, including washbasins, Aero toilets and brassware, the introduction of HiB Sanitaryware presents new ranges designed to place sanitaryware at the heart of every beautiful bathroom.
Among the standout additions is the Entero concrete vessel basin range, boasting six striking matt colours and four contemporary shapes. Crafted from durable concrete material, these basins offer a timeless yet striking solution to suit diverse tastes.
The Spring launch brings the debut of the Cleo washbasin range, featuring three elegantlyshaped designs with intricate fluted detailing in a ceramic collection that aims to harmonise with the latest bathroom trends.
Included in the new sanitaryware collection, HiB introduces additional brassware finishes, including gunmetal and brushed bronze options now available in the Atlas tap range, alongside brushed brass, black and chrome finishes.
Robert Pattern, HiB Sanitaryware Category Manager, said: “Consumers are changing their approach to bathroom design and are really looking first at the key areas of the space they interact with every day.
“Our aim with HiB Sanitaryware is to offer a revolutionary approach for the UK and Irish bathroom industries. By putting sanitaryware at the centre of bathroom design, we are answering that growing demand from consumers and are offering a comprehensive range of washbasins, toilets and brassware that will make choosing their bathroom straightforward, with the result being that their bathroom is beautiful and practical, meeting their needs.
“We have developed our sanitaryware ranges with universality in mind, so that there are options in the collection for every bathroom. We are really opening up the opportunity for UK and Irish consumers to choose high quality, beautifully designed sanitaryware products as a priority, which then are versatile in the space.
“This new chapter for HiB is hugely exciting and we hope that installers see the benefits of our new ranges for their customer’s bathroom projects.”
The launch of HiB Sanitaryware is accompanied by the release of a new brochure, providing detailed product inspiration, specifications and descriptions to simplify the
selection process.
Alongside the launch of Sanitaryware, HiB has also revealed new mirror, cabinet and furniture ranges to enhance the bathroom. From the pop of colour of HiB’s new round Vaida mirror to the illuminated arch of Nova range, there is something new for every customer.

LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
Waste removal expert HIPPO has announced its sponsorship of New Zealand superbike racer Shane Richardson for the highly anticipated 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, as he races for HIPPO Suzuki, run by Astro JJR.
The sponsorship marks HIPPO’s first venture into the adrenalinefueled world of motorsports, as well as Shane’s first major superbike sponsor. Shane Richardson, 28, has been riding motorbikes for 26 years, racing for 24. However, it was his trade background, crafting bespoke kitchens and cabinetry, which he still does part-time, that confirmed that this was the right sponsorship for HIPPO.
Installation efficiency is mostly known for its famous HIPPOBAGs and already has a strong trade business supporting installers. This sponsorship will further promote the brand amongst the trade through a seasonlong sponsorship where prominent HIPPO branding will be seen across Shane’s Suzuki bike and leathers.
A promotional partnership with Fix Radio to win race tickets, Shane’s attendance at The InstallerSHOW and an integrated marketing
programme will all work to promote HIPPO’s support.
Before Shane’s recent success racing in New Zealand, he spent the last two years off the track, making this season a real comeback. With an urge to return to racing, he recently secured a job as a test driver for Triumph, creating more opportunities to be immersed in the world of motorbikes. He said: “HIPPO’s sponsorship is genuinely the difference between me riding this year and not. I am very grateful that they see potential in this partnership and have been able to help me keep my dream alive.”
Gareth Lloyd Jones, Managing Director at HIPPO, added: “Being able to sponsor a talented joiner, who has turned a hobby of motorbike riding into a career has provided a new and exciting opportunity for HIPPO. We look forward to supporting Shane as he takes on this season and achieves success on the track.”
The season runs until the end
of October and spans across the UK and Spain, including racing on iconic tracks such as Thruxton Circuit in Andover, known for being one of the fastest in the country.

Franke launches premium 6-in-1 multi-functional tap with 30-minute install time.
Franke has further extended its specialist Water Hub instant boiling water tap range with the premium Mythos model that offers a choice of 5-in-1 or 6-in-1 and can be installed in around 30 minutes. This follows on from the launch of the Maris Water Hub 3 and 4-in-1 tap earlier this year.
Mythos Water Hub is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Simply turn the electronic dial to select filtered ambient, chilled, sparkling and instant boiling water, each denoted by a colour, while standard mains hot and cold is dispensed by the side lever.
Streamlined Installation
Mythos Water Hub has also been designed with easy installation and ongoing maintenance in mind, setting itself apart from other multifunctional taps with its stylish dark grey metal one-box solution that’s installed neatly under the worksurface with a simple ‘plug and play’ process.
Measuring just 440 x 200 x 495mm, this compact box features an easy-to-use LED interface and houses the 4L hot water tank, Co2 cartridge and premium ProM filter cartridge that prevents limescale,
removes contaminants and stabilises the minerals to provide fresh tasting water.
When it is time to change the cartridges, users simply remove the detachable front plate and pop new ones in.
Consumers can customise their water experience through the Franke @Home app, adjusting settings like water quantity, sparkling level and boiling water temperature. RFID technology provides timely notifications when its time change the filters, which is super easy to do in a matter of seconds.

6-in-1 tap in solid Stainless Steel offering a choice of filtered ambient, chilled, sparkling water and instant boiling water at the turn of a colour-coded electronic dial, on top of standard hot and cold mains water
Sustainable Solution
Like all models in the Water Hub range, Mythos Water Hub prioritises sustainability. Made from solid stainless steel, it is durable and recyclable. By providing filtered and sparkling water on tap, it can reduce household plastic bottle waste by up to 90%. And not only that, having instant boiling water readily available saves significant energy compared to traditional kettle boiling.
After Sales Support
Maintaining specialist taps like the Mythos Water Hub is crucial. Franke offers comprehensive
after-sales support, including a two-year warranty and an optional annual maintenance service carried out by its field service team. This service, akin to a tap ‘MOT’, ensures optimal functionality and gives customers peace of mind about their investment.
The Mythos Water Hub is the latest addition to Franke’s flagship Water Hub range. With options for 3, 4, 5, and 6-in-1 functionality, as well as manual and electronic operation, installers can recommend a flexible and reliable tap solution for every customer’s needs and budget.

5
TOP TIPS FOR INSTALLING MYTHOS WATER HUB
1Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation at the rear of the unit to allow ventilation for the chiller. Leave at least a 50mm gap between the back of the unit and the cupboard wall, and cut a hole in the cupboard’s backboard that’s 200mm x 200mm.
2Water Pressure should be between 1 and 10 bar – the device has a 3 bar reducing valve built in.
3Follow the startup and flushing procedure outlined in the manual during installation. This process takes around six minutes. Do not install the CO2 cylinder until flushing is complete to avoid wasting CO2.
4Use the spanner provided to help tighten the nut connections at the rear of the device.
5When installing the Pressure Relief Valve, ensure the waste hose has at least an 8cm drop before it enters the waste pipe.
