CHAIRMAN’S NOTES | Welcome to Langford Road Biggleswade FC v Tring Athletic Good evening and welcome to Langford Road for our SSMFL Premier Division match against Tring Athletic. This is our fifth meeting this season and each match has been tight, competitive and high quality, a credit to the league. It is likely to be the same tonight in front of what we anticipate will be a very big crowd, as we welcome the league leaders for what is a huge game – we hope it rewards your attendance and support and is an excellent spectacle. Tring have had a fantastic season and our tussles with them in both cups and the league have brought out the best in our lads, so everything is in place for a terrific game and all that is best about non-league football – we are very pleased you are here to see it! We would like to extend a warm welcome to the players, management, supporters and committee of Tring Athletic who have made the journey tonight – not an easy one midweek - and hope that they enjoy their time with us and have a safe journey home afterwards. Welcome also to our match officials please respect their role and the FA's Respect and League’s Mind Your Language Campaigns, so that the match is enjoyable for all. Many thanks to our main sponsor Raymond Smith, for his renewed support this season and also for today’s match sponsor, The Cock In Broom. Saturday’s 3-0 win against London Colney saw three outstandingly created and taken goals and another vital 3 points, albeit much of the game was quite scrappy and forgettable on a grey afternoon. Time and time again this season, the lads have shown so many different sides to their game – trademark brilliant teamwork, passing play and goals but also the ability to dig in and keep sides at bay with resilient defending - and how our young side has developed and matured has been wonderful to see. Hot on their heels are the Reserves, who fresh from reaching a cup final, won again on Saturday too and can now see a real opportunity at the top of their league. Phil and Karl’s young side play tomorrow, away at Henlow, kick off 6.15pm and that should be well worth watching. We now have dates for all three FC Cup Finals – 24 April (Premier Division), 30 April (NBCC) and 6 May (Reserves – Centenary). We bring our home league season to a finish next Saturday, 13 April, when we entertain Wembley FC. The Reserves are away to Shefford Town & Campton Reserves on the same day, kick off 2.30pm. Please join us for as many of these games as you can and show your support and appreciation of what these brilliant young players have brought us this season and how they have so entertained us all. Thanks for coming tonight, make some noise and enjoy the game. Come on FC!

MATCH REPORT | Biggleswade FC 3-0 London Colney Three goals in nine late first half minutes set Biggleswade FC on their way to a fourth successive victory for the first time since October as they saw off London Colney in a largely scrappy encounter at Langford Road on Saturday. After the impressive win against title rivals Hadley last time out, this game was always going to be about just getting the job done and remaining within touching distance of leaders Tring Athletic ahead of a potentially pivotal meeting on Tuesday night and FC certainly did that here. With that in mind, managers Dave Northfield and Mark Inskip made a number of changes for this latest home outing. Nathan George returned at centre half, Michael Simpson came in at left back which allowed Lawrie Marsh to partner Tom Coles in midfield with Pat McCafferty rested. Justin Leavers was also handed a start in place of Tom Cookman. FC have had their fair share of problems seeing off sides in the bottom half since the turn of the year, so it was going to be interesting to see how they went about their business here after turning in one of their best halves of the season in the win over Hadley. London Colney came to Langford Road having failed to score in six of their previous nine, so their goal threat may not have been of immediate concern, but their goals against record is up there with sides in the top ten, so they were always going to be tricky to break down. A flat, scrappy and rather incident-free 28 minutes had passed before the home side discovered any kind of rhythm to their play. A lovely lofted pass from Northfield freed Alex Marsh down the right hand side. He had already spotted the run of brother Lawrie and played a delightful low first time cross towards him, but it had just a tad too much on it as Lawrie slid in at full stretch, but could only divert just wide of the left hand post. FC kept probing, but nothing appeared to be coming off until skipper Tom Coles opened the scoring on 34 minutes. The game needed a goal and Coles delivered in spectacular fashion. The ball seemed to cannon around the edge of the penalty area for a few moments before Coles took control and unleashed a special strike on the volley over the flying Jack Metcalfe into the roof of the net from 25 yards. The visitors had a couple of half-chances following the opener as FC remained a little sloppy in possession at times, but keeper Ross Tompkins who was a spectator for long periods remained alert and comfortably dealt with anything that came his way. Though not at their best for most of this game, this FC side are like a caged animal in that if you feel comfortable and drop your guard for a moment, they can punish you and they demonstrated their devastating capabilities with two brilliant goals in three minutes to take firm charge of the game. On 41 minutes a lovely passage of one touch play through the middle of the field involving the Marsh brothers, Tom Coles and Ryan Inskip saw the ball worked out left to Lee Northfield just inside the London Colney penalty area. He fashioned some space for himself before sending over a beautiful cross to the far post that cried out for Justin Leavers to get on the end of. The big forward didn't disappoint rounding off an excellent move with a powerful header past the despairing Metcalfe. The boys in Green were soon turning on the style once more when Inskip showed impressively close control just outside the penalty area under the close attentions of Colney defenders. He waited for his moment before picking out the overlapping Adam Hunt inside the visiting left back. Such was the quality and weight of pass that Hunt could drive low across the face first time and Leavers was there again to gobble up the simplest of finishes. Alex Marsh was bursting through on goal again seconds later as the visiting backline was now being breached at will, but credit to the chasing defender who did just about enough to force Marsh to hit his shot off target. This started a personal battle between Marsh and visiting stopper Metcalfe as FC's top scorer seemed intent on adding to his season's tally. Metcalfe pulled off a brilliant reaction save to tip over Marsh's well-struck half-volley following Adam Hunt's cross to the near post. Marsh tried his luck again three minutes later when he ran in from the left hand side after being played in by Northfield. The angle was against him, but he went alone anyway and again Metcalfe made a brave stop. A counter-attack from London Colney presented them with a rare sight of goal, but again Tompkins showed good concentration and agility to tip the ball around the post when called upon. The FC keeper chalked up his fifth clean sheet in seven outings with two comfortable saves late on, but it was on the whole one of his more quieter afternoons.
