Welcome to our first edition of Big Canoe Living, featuring the Big Canoe name and logo that we now own For the first time in our community's history, our name and brand are ours!
There are a lot of exciting things going on in our community. One of those things is that we can’t wait for the Clubhouse to open this summer Once we’re open, we look forward to returning to in-person board meetings. As a result of the current virtual meeting format, we are missing the one-on-one conversations before, during, and after the formal meetings.
In the meantime, we are pleased to invite you to a casual Community Chat with the Board and GM on Tuesday, April 22 from 5:30-6:30 at the Big Canoe Lodge. There are no PowerPoint presentations, podiums, or prepared agendas. It is completely unscripted, and questions or comments on any topic are welcome. The Board and General Manager want to hear from you! If needed, in addition to the 30 parking spots at the Big Canoe Lodge, we will have a shuttle service available at the three-tier Chapel lot nd,
As a reminder, last fall you were invited to participate in our 2024 Amenity Satisfaction Survey. In this edition of Big Canoe Living, we begin a five-part series where each of our amenity Managers shares a summary of your feedback and the actions they have taken and will take to enhance property owner satisfaction based on your survey responses. You will enjoy reading “On the Run with Steve”, which is the first article in the series
Also, in this edition, we are pleased to announce Big Canoe Living University, a new learning series on how to use our improved website. For example, we cover how to use the new Membership section of the website. You can easily join, cancel, and update your amenity memberships on any device with internet access or in any of our amenities using the new handy dandy countertop iPads We also always welcome your calls at 706-268-3346
Have a wonderful and safe Easter weekend, and we hope to see you at the Community Chat.
Terry Stewart, Big Canoe POA President

Based on the results of last fall’s 2024 Amenity Satisfaction Survey, we want to let you know that we heard you and want to share our plans to enhance your experience at the Wellness Center and Outdoor Pool amenities.
Concern: The facility is outdated and requires maintenance
Remedy: The facility received a thorough renovation in March; replacing flooring, Natatorium flooring, LED lighting, window replacement, paint and thorough cleaning, a new HVAC system in the Natatorium, refreshed pool deck shower, all new cardio equipment (25 pieces) including smart-technology screens with bluetooth and app connectivity options, a huge selection of viewing options and a new Sauna.
Concern: Quality of pool water
Remedy: A professional pool company has been hired to open the pools, which includes prepping them for opening and ensure that all systems are operating correctly and they will make any necessary repairs prior to opening day.
Concern: Lack of visible supervision
Remedy: Two adult managers have been hired for the summer season and will be visible in identifiable uniforms. A Head Lifeguard has been appointed to help oversee the Wildcat pool.
Concern: Restroom cleanliness at the Beach Club
Remedy: In addition to the POA Housekeeping team, pool management, front desk staff and lifeguards will all be responsible for constant walk-throughs to help maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the restrooms.
Concern: Available seating at the Wildcat Pool
Remedy: New furniture has been purchased for the amenity; 90 dining chairs, 90 lounge chairs and 20 tables.
Our goal is provide a safe, clean and fun environment for all of our property owners and guests. Your feedback is appreciated and we will continue to strive for water based entertainment that everyone will love and enjoy.

More than 2,000 years ago, during a census year, a young girl from Nazareth gave birth nearly 100 miles from home. She wrapped her newborn and placed him in a feeding troth, hardly a dignified maternity ward. With the crowds and the census and the buying and selling, this birth did not register as big news for anyone much outside the family.
Thirty years or so later, this son of a carpenter was one of the most talked about people in the region. He was a miracle worker, an embodiment of peace, a teacher unlike anything gone before Some said that he might even be the Messiah. Crowds followed and hung on every word, but still his reputation did not extend much beyond Palestine.
This crowd of supporters followed the teacher into Jerusalem for the Passover celebration, the annual festival to retell and commemorate the release of the Jews from Egyptian bondage But the miracle worker’s popularity, his being hailed by the peasant throngs, became a threat to the Roman power structure and this threat led to a gruesome death. He hung between two thieves and died on a cross. Still, the mourners were local, the grieving crowd would not have filled a high school stadium.
Three days later, God raised Jesus from the dead! All history changed Calendars were reset. Today, believers in every language and every land call him “Lord”. His message of unselfish love has transformed the world – his victory over death has redefined hope. He has conquered death and set us free in the power of love. The Easter Messiah has come that all persons can be free from bondage. As he said himself… Jesus has come, “that you might have life and have it more abundantly” This is good news indeed
Happy Easter!

Big Canoe spends over $300,000 annually to dispose of our trash! We can reduce this cost by recycling, and here’s how.
• We can recycle aluminum beverage cans and other metal items inside our gates at the current Big Canoe trash facility
• Start by separating these items from the rest of your trash – nothing fancy, paper or plastic bags will work
Empty your bag into the bin at our trash facility. Dispose of your bag in the trash or reuse it. The bin is just past the regular trash receptacles
(excluding electronics)
The metal storage dumpster is beyond the regular trash bins. Turn to the right just past the trash, go through the gate, and the large dumpster is on your left. There is a sign “metals only” on the side
Empty steel cans. (rinse if food is sticking to the sides)
Other metal items like: grills; appliances; bicycles; window screens; Christmas Tree lights; extension cords; white wire closet shelving
Empty Aerosol cans OK
Pie tins and aluminum foil are not accepted
Pickens County has a recycling facility minutes outside the gates available to all Big Canoe residents. When heading to Jasper via Cove Rd, turn left onto Whittley Rd. (where Wayside Vet Clinic is located). The recycling facility is on your right: 9720 Cove Rd., Tues-Sat 8 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (770)-893-2644.
Staff are available to help if you have questions.
Aluminum beverage cans
Clear glass-all colors (no need to separate by color)
Corrugated cardboard (no need to flatten boxes)
Paper, magazines, catalogues, paperboard (cereal type, for example). No need to separate
Some plastics: Milk jugs, detergent bottles, soda/water bottles
