INTRO HASEBIKES. Ideas that revolutionize mobility. In 1994, we began building bikes for maximum fun, comfort, and flexibility. All we had then was our vision for a new kind of mobility, thousands of ideas for specialized bikes, and a lot of idealism. HASE has since grown into a wellestablished company, headquartered in the historic buildings of Zeche Waltrop. And success has only fueled our motivation. With the KLIMAX series, one of our mobility dreams has come true: protecting our climate while creating the perfect climate for the cyclist. With cycling fun instead of frustration, and function instead of bells and whistles. The quality remains exceptional.
INTRO And this high level of quality is also guaranteed by our longstanding partner EFBe, the test laboratory located in the new HASE hall, right across from the HASE headquarters. As before, all of our bikes and trikes must pass its technical tests. In addition to the laboratory, the new building houses our showroom, welding shop, and a storage area – we simply needed more space for our mobility ideas and their implementation. When you look at the 2012 product portfolio from our now more than 40strong HASE team, you’ll understand: our vision for a new mobility is quickly becoming reality. With the KLIMAX 5K, we covered
a lot of ground in the realization of this vision – and riders will also be covering a lot of ground: with the 28 mph (45 km/h) fast e-bike, environmentally friendly mobility is now even possible for the long-distance commuter. The new KLIMAX still offers the same comfortable microclimate under the Fairing – no changes there.

And what better place to photograph the results of their work than in a city that has been known for years as a melting pot of creativity: Berlin. In terms of modern mobility, Germany’s capital may have a few things to learn from some of the smaller cities, but the atmosphere of change permeating this urban area is practically unrivalled. So we headed east, where a conference on new mobility was being held at the former Tempelhof airport during the week of our shooting – we were in the best of company! Airport grounds, Eastside Gallery, Potsdamer Platz: the HASE crew had lots of fun in the Berlin air – and, judging by the photos, so did the Berliners. By the way: in view of this year’s international successes, it seems HASE’s innovative mobility concepts are on the right track:

its KLIMAX 2K swept the awards circuit, taking home the 2010 Eurobike Green Award, then – hardly a pedal rotation later – the 2011 IF Product Design Award in Gold and the Red Dot Award for product design. Mighty impressive, eh?

And all of us can have an influence on the way things develop. Let’s do a good job.
Even the very first LEPUS trikes built by Marec Hase back in 1994 offered more than just practical mobility: fun and comfort have always been essentials for HASEBIKES. This might be one reason for the edge we seem to have over other companies working on concepts for future mobility. In an age when the very auto

More pedal power in sun or shower! The 5 in “KLIMAX 5K” stands for more power: with its 500 watts, the new commuter e-bike from HASE can effortlessly reach its max. 28 mph (45 km/h). The e-trike for long distances is a completely new concept: and assistance is independent of pedaling. But it’s still sensational fun to zoom from A to B in any weather, CO2 -free in a comfort climate.
Everything under control: with the KLIMAX 5K, bad weather is just a sideshow, and long commutes are joy rides, even in the city. The zippy riding dynamics take care of the rest. Speed, battery-charge status, lighting control, and other important data are displayed on the info console right in front of you.

Houston, we have … no problem whatsoever! Our 5K-pilot Karim feels right at home in the traffic at Potsdamer Platz. This public square earned its reputation as a center for development and change back the 1920s – and again today: a perfect backdrop for the 5K, as a symbol of new mobility. With an
“Ick-bin-ein-Berliner” attitude, HASE sales rep Karim swims through the wide lanes in his 5K, laid back and speedy in the flow of traffic. The 5K offers a better view from the cockpit than a convertible, where the windshield posts get in the way. And it can zip off from the stoplight faster than some roadsters: the hub motor in the front wheel puts out full power right from the start, controlled by a twist-grip throttle – independent of your own pedal power. Although maybe the roadsters were just too busy gaping in awe. The awe-struck faces also appeared on the grounds of the former Tempelhof Airport when
we demonstrated the Fairing: getting into the KLIMAX Fairing is almost as elegant as with a Gullwing – just that the 5K “doorway” is nowhere near as narrow. Simply open the safety catch, lift the Fairing, take a seat, re-latch, finished. And a good minute is all it takes to go from summer look to waterproof: remove the Fairing from the compact case behind the seat, click it into the mount, unfold it, and snap the sides into place. If drizzle turns to downpour, the Poncho can be snapped into the fairing in seconds. And with the Poncho, it’s just as easy to get in and out of the seat. The special zipper with extended edges 7

ensures that the rider stays warm and dry from the neck down. Both the frame and the Fairing can be adjusted to fit the pilot. And speaking of frame: the KLIMAX’s chassis comes from the cornering-whiz KETTWIESEL. Its cornering genes were put to the test on the former runway, even at higher speeds. After an
experience like that, the phrase “almost as good as flying” may have to be reconsidered – after all, the center of gravity is low, and additional stability is added by the low-mounted battery. But there’s nothing else “conservative” about the ultra-powerful Tektro Auriga Twin hydraulic disc brakes on the rear wheels, supported by a large Avid BB7 disc up front. The KLIMAX’s passive safety system is also state-of-the-art: its
headlight, specially developed by Philips for e-bikes, lights up the Berlin night. And in the back, a combination taillight/brake light shines from the license plate. License plate? In Germany, e-bikes with 500 W motors are subject to the same licensing laws as mopeds. For KLIMAX owners, this means about 70 euros per
year for the license plate – including insurance! The impressive speed and a range of about 25 miles (40 km) (at 50% leg power) make the 5K the perfect power-trike for commutes and daily use. At the medium assistance level, a full charge will take you about 31 miles (50 km). And the harder you pedal, the further you’ll get. Empty tank? Fill ‘er up at any power outlet in about 4 hours. The bottom line: your exertion is cut in half for the same speed – and twice as much fun. A few clicks and snaps is all it takes to mount the Fairing to the frame, and keep the rain or drizzle off the stoker. Getting in and out of the seat is just as easy as always, and the stocker can even enjoy the Fairing’s rearview mirror. No more rain? Then the Fairing folds away almost as easily as an umbrella and fits nicely into the handy Fairing Bag. Another argument: Even the captain will stay dryer …
Suspension Seat Post Comfort for the captain: the finely tuned Suspension Seat Post from Airwings lets the boss cruise smoothly over the most uneven surfaces. The “overseer”, after all, should also have a comfortable seat.

enjoy a leisurely cruise and take in the pulsating city around you. After all, the trike is designed for intuitive riding: the rider’s hands fall naturally onto the infinitely adjustable under-seat handlebars, gears are shifted just as naturally with a twist shifter, and the Avid disc-brake system on the rear wheels stops the action with Marx-Allee, and on and on. The two make a good couple. He’s also an all-rounder, doubling as a weekend DJ in his adopted home, Berlin. But wieseling can also be a source of joy. No wonder: a mere 18 inches (46 cm) below him, the asphalt whizzes past. The low center of gravity and the seat position between the rear wheels
add up to perfect road-holding; the low weight and race-bike gear system from Shimano make for strong acceleration, and the KETTWIESEL geometry translates into adrenaline-pumping corners. You can adjust the angle and firmness of the mesh seat to suite your style. And with the cornering master, you can also
force, whenever necessary. It also has a parking-brake mechanism – nobody wants their Wiesel to run off without them. Speaking of running off: the ALLROUND even earns full marks in transport. With the Quickstick hubs by Marec Hase, the rear wheels can be popped off in a jiffy. Even smaller? In a few more steps, any KETTWIESEL can be made small enough for a compact car. The comfort begins when you first sit down: the angled boom – together with the small, 16” wheel up front – makes getting into the seat a whole lot easier. With the lowered position of the bottom bracket, even pedaling is more comfortable, especially for older riders or riders with handicaps. Add to that a dose of LEPUSLEPUS COMFORT. The old friends could hardly contain their excitement: “Wow, there, do you remember …?” and “Gosh, this is so nice!” For example, when touring Berlin’s Museum Island. And sometimes, this enthusiasm was directed at the trikes on which they comfortably explored their old stomping grounds.

This means: we should be flexible too – like ever ything else in their exciting world. This is why we reinvented the TRETS once again – and made it even more variable. The little ones seem quite pleased …
Even babies are eager to explore their world. No problem, with the new TRETS: its new design can accommodate an infant carrier or baby seat. Now passengers from about one month of age can begin their TRETS careers! Robin takes in the world with curious eyes. What he doesn’t know yet: his comfy
desired direction, somewhat like the front wheels of a shopping cart – but much more accurately. And be it jogging or shopping, mom can easily slow the momentum with the levers of the powerful Avid disc brakes at her fingertips. In the meantime, Robin is safely strapped in and enjoying the ride. In the afterTRETS will be with him for years to come. And once he gets a bit older and more active, it will all be even more fun. For example, when mama takes her morning run, followed by her shopping errands, surrogate dad Dirk von Rijn takes him on a bike tour, or the little pilot eventually takes the wheel of his very own trike. Too much at once? As every parent knows, those years fly by … When redesigning the TRETS, we took special care in coming up with the optimal Jogger and Buggy. We accomplished it, in part, by adding the smaller front wheel and a new wheel-mounting system for multiple uses. We also added the practical footrest
to guarantee maximum protection for the little legs dangling outside the baby seat. On her run, mom can now steer with the handlebar that will later be used by the young triker for tearing down the same paths. This works as smooth as silk – and with safety – thanks to the new chassis. The front wheel turns automatically in the
noon, it’s down to the river Spree with buddy, Dirk: front wheel off, drawbar on – and in just a few minutes, the TRETS has been transformed into a trailer. In this April weather, the handy Fairing can be snapped on quickly. It can also be used in Jogger mode. Come rain or snow, Lisa is always smiling, warm and cozy in
her own mini climate to-go. But it’s not long before the young passenger is ready for a little more action. Then it’s time to pedal along and show dad what an outboard motor feels like! Electric Drive: Tailwind de Luxe The electric motor is suitable for everyday use or can be switched on for steep hills and longer stretches. It can be used with all HASE bikes and trikes and does not require a permit to operate. Simple controls, and all gear system options remain. The 180-watt motor is extremely quiet. High-quality lithium-ion battery. The battery is easy to remove but lockable for theft protection. An empty battery can be completely recharged in only 4m hours. The pedals have toe clips and straps to keep the feet secure so that the pilot can focus her full attention on navigation and, of course … fun. Even the 140 mm cranks and the small, 16” front wheel are optimized for smaller riders. But the TRIX isn’t

Specials for special riders Sometimes a minor detail stands between us and our mobility: for example, if your knee doesn’t bend far enough, then a bicycle with standard equipment is useless. Open AHEAD Cap The open AHEAD cap makes it possible to attach any commercially available bicycle stem to the fork of a KETTWIESEL or LEPUS. The stem can be used for the attachment of grab handles, push handles, and much more.
Brake Coupling For people with reduced mobility in one hand. The coupling connects the two disc brakes with a single brake lever. Precision hydraulics and the ergonomic design of the lever guarantee full braking power and excellent modulation, singlehandedly.
Armrest: Take a load off When the arm cannot support its own weight, these comfortable armrests ensure a relaxed arm position.
Single-hand Controls A single grip with all control elements! Using a special adapter, two brake levers can be mounted on one side. This allows the rider to shift gears and control both brake levers using a single hand.
Fixed Gear Hub The trike becomes a fixie with a single gear. With the Fixed Gear Hub, the pedals of the KETTWIESEL or TRETS remain in motion as long as the trike is moving. Especially sensible for physical therapy patients and people with limited mobility. Coaster Brake When the legs are more mobile than the hands, the coaster brake ensures full braking power â€“ with high tech: pedaling backwards transfers the leg power to a hydraulic disc brake.
One-sided Leg Support A comfortable solution for people with paralysis on one side of the body or a handicap. The healthy leg can pedal while the other is safely strapped into its own comfortable support. The infinitely adjustable Leg Support mounts behind the bottom bracket. 43

Handlebar Extensions Putting the steering unit within reach: the KETTWIESEL and LEPUS can be equipped with up to 80 cm handlebar extensions. 16” Front Wheel Mounting and pedaling is easier with the lowered frame height.
Crank Shortener For people with legs of different lengths or restrictions in leg mobility … but also for kids. The pedals can be slid individually along the crank for separate adjustment, optimizing rehabilitation training or allowing the crank length to grow with your child. Freewheel Switch-off For children in physical therapy, it is often sensible to keep the muscles moving over a longer period of time. This is where our Freewheel Switch-off comes in: this little mechanism keeps those little legs in motion. Simple cause, major effect.
Safety Belts Shoulder belts and lap belts gently secure riders with motor disorders to the recumbent seat.
Turn Signal System Even more passive safety – and not only for people with handicaps. The battery-powered Turn Signal System is operated intuitively with the simple touch of a button. And with its inconspicuous looks, it blends right in with the design of your trike.
Special Steering / Shoulder Steering Unit Mobility for people with no arms or short arms. The width of the steering unit is fully adjustable. A coaster brake is used for stopping.

The trick: pedaling is possible with very little bend to the legs. The pedals can be adjusted to allow for more movement as leg strength returns, creating a beneficial training effect.
Pedals with Toe Clips and Straps As an alternative to clipless pedals and shoes with cleats: these Pedals hold the front portion of the foot with a brace, guaranteeing the correct foot position, while the elastic strap around the heel prevents slipping. Also available in a children’s version.
Seat or Seatback Extension More space – more comfort. This option gives you extra room on the seat or seatback.
