The history of Corke Pet Supply Store is rooted in a practical need: the store was founded to serve as a local solution for pet owners in the Kamuning area, which lacked sufficient pet supply shops. Established at the corner of Kamuning (inspiring its name, "Corke"), it has been focused on providing essential items like food, treats, toys, and accessories for pets. Corke has grown steadily since its inception, drawing in a loyal customer base due to its friendly atmosphere and comprehensive product offerings.
Despite its success, the store's branding has been a challenge. Initially designed with a simple, text-only logo, Corke struggled to stand out in a market where visually engaging and distinctive logos are common. The owner, driven by the store's limited budget and a DIY approach, emphasized simplicity but recognized that this approach impacted the store's visual identity and customer recall. This realization has led to efforts to develop a more eye-catching, brand-aligned logo that reflects the store’s fun, approachable, and pet-friendly nature.
DEFINITION CORKE
The primary problem for Corke Pet Supply Store is its text-only logo, which lacks visual interest and memorability. This minimalistic design fails to capture the store's personality and struggles to stand out in a competitive pet supply market where engaging and visually distinctive logos are the norm. This challenge affects the store's ability to attract attention, build a strong brand identity, and resonate with pet owners looking for a friendly and fun shopping experience. Additionally, Corke faces the broader issue of being a relatively new and single-location store, which further emphasizes the need for a strong and compelling visual brand presence to boost recognition and customer loyalty.

Color Studies
I decided to use a Blaze Orange (#FF6600) as the main color for the logo, with accents of Black (#0000) and the gradient of orange going red. The orange tones and red gradients reflect energy, fun, and warmth. These colors work together to create a vibrant yet welcoming brand identity.

Typography
I chose to make a personalized typography for only the words “CORKE” as the primary typeface to add a clean, modern, and has a friendly feel. I used a bold version for "Corke" in orange to make the store name pop, while the lighter version of Rounded MT in Orange for "Pet Supply Store" keeps the focus on the main title but still provides clarity.
The corgi wearing sunglasses became the central visual element of the logo. The sunglasses represent Corke’s accessory offerings, while the corgi itself adds personality and connects with the target audience of pet lovers. I wanted the logo to have an instant appeal something that would make people smile when they see it.
This development phase was all about fine-tuning these elements to create a logo that was balanced, visually engaging, and representative of Corke’s brand.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND SOLUTIONS
One issue was finding the right balance between fun and professionalism. Early iterations of the logo either felt too playful or too serious. Simplifying the design and focusing on the corgi and sunglasses allowed me to strike the right balance, keeping the logo approachable yet polished.
A challenge was ensuring the corgi’s sunglasses didn’t overpower the design. Adjusting their size and placement added a playful touch without distracting from the logo.
INSIGHTS GAINED
I learned a lot about the power of subtle design choices. A small addition like the sunglasses can significantly change the perception of a logo. I also realized how important it is to simplify sometimes less is more, and it can create a stronger impact.
CREATIVE PIVOTS
The biggest creative pivot was adding the sunglasses to the corgi. Initially, I considered leaving the corgi as a simple silhouette, but I realized the sunglasses helped communicate that Corke is not just about essentials but also offers fun accessories for pets. This small detail really brought the logo to life.
WHAT WENT WELL AND WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED
The color palette and corgi mascot were effective, creating a friendly and inviting look. The orange and red tones stood out, making the corgi a fun and recognizable element. Improvement could include exploring more playful typography and testing the logo on various mediums, like packaging and social media, to ensure adaptability. NOV 12TH
