WE LIKE TO MOVE IT!!

I cannot believe that we've come to the end of Term 2 already. What a whirlwind it's been.

The portable library will be closing on Friday 16 June at 4pm. We reopen as Bursztyn Family Learning Hub (The Hub for short) on Monday 17 July (week 2 of Term 2).

Students will be unable to borrow during our transition period. A returns box will be available at the front of the library if students wish to return.

All library classes with Teacher Raff will be held in students' home rooms.

This is an exciting time for our library as we begin packing for the move to our new space. We will have our own launch week program full of activities for our students (of all ages) to enjoy. Make sure you come and check out our new space once it's up and running.

Remember to keep an eye on our socials for up to date information on our move.

INDEPENDENT BORROWING

In May, Kinder 4 students started borrowing books independently from The ELC Library. They used the FeFe check out system with their personal library cards and the touch screen prompts. Each child has their own personalised library bag. Students are able to select from a wide variety of books, including picture fiction, social stories, poetry, and non-fiction.

Their pride and excitement in sharing their book choices with their families is evident, fostering a lifelong love of literature.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME (NSS)

During NSS, Students from Creche to Year 1 participated together. The selected book for this years event was "The Speedy Sloth" by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie. Prior to the event, students watched a Live Sloth Cam and researched non-fiction texts to learn about sloths. The story features engaging rhymes and promotes the theme of "running your own race" and doing one's best, aligning with Bialik College's motto of "Be Your Best."

MAKERSPACE

LUNCH TIME FUN

Our lunch time Makerspace club is a popular place. Students enjoy the freedom and are encouraged to follow their interests and create their own small scale projects independently or collaboratively.

The excitement to expand this wonderful club to more students as we move to the new Makerspace in Term 3 is building.

YEAR 8 INSPIRED BY NATURE

Our Year 8 3D Design students have been learning about biomimicry and were tasked to create practical designs inspired by nature.

Using design thinking practices, students observed the nature that surrounds us at Bialik and found ways they could incorporate what they see into interesting designs such as a bird beak inspired key holder and a seed pod inspired pencil holder (pictured).

Cre8tionHub

This has been an exciting Term of creativity. Students have worked together on:

Trinket boxes.

Marble mazes.

Seed collages.

Climbing wall sloths.

Rain makers

Pipe cleaner figurines.

Next Term we will be back in a fully equipped Makerspace allowing us to offer students a greater variety of activities.
