Confidence Painting, Encaustic on Arches Paper W:9 H:12 cm 2019 Michelle Harpster

My art explores the relationship between the use of unorthodox materials in two-dimensional works. For me, mixed media art is more of a study on how materials can be pushed to their limits through layering and application. This technique is structured to entice the viewer into viewing more than what they see on the surface at a quick glance. The artwork evokes sensory stimulation through textural elements and subject matter, exhibiting formal and informal qualities, I create a personal yet removed attraction between the art and the viewer.

Artificial Fairies No.9 Painting, Watercolor on Arches Paper W:61 H:43 cm 2022 Yuqian Sun

I always keep a bunch of flowers in my room. The bouquet in a glass vase looks like a flickering candle in a room filled with quietness. It burns for a few days in the dark night, and go out gradually. I bury the remains of the candle and light a new one. The cycle just repeats itself. Red fire, purple fire, today I light up a candle of white fire...Who can not love such flowers! The are as pale as the sketch paper I torn and scrambled when my inspiration dried up... This imagery made me more and more attached to this bouquet. My doll seemed to like it, too. Her closed eyes held the sleep of tranquility, but her eyelashes trembled as if the warm breath of the flowers was touching them. She gave a hug to the bouquet, and then she heard them pour out their hearts without lies.

The 21 constituent squares are not readily visible in the composition but their presence can be traced by following their respective diagonals floating over the grid. [*A perfect squared square of order n is a square that can be tiled into exactly n smaller squares, all of different sizes. It is said to be simple if it does not contain a smaller squared square.]

Peek-a-Boo Painting, Poster Color on Paper W:29.70 H:42 cm 2022 Tanushree Bhattacharya

Especially in this painting, I tried to paint on Cartridge paper with acrylic & poster colors a boy who is peeking behind the mirror. His image is reflected in the mirror. I have added texture, colors, light, and shadow in this particular painting to look for realism. I use White, Black, Scarlet Red, Yellow Orchid, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Flesh Tint & Vandyke Brown colors. As a passionate painter, I like to capture the beauty of mundane objects and places. In this particular painting, I tried to depict them as a symbol of boldness and adventure. The child is playing a hide and seeks game.
