BEFORE DEVASTION STRIKES Ø REVIEW AND UPDATE ALL DISASTER PLANS v Names, roles/functions, contact details Ø CARRY OUT SOME HOUSE-KEEPING v Store all pool & lawn furniture, clear potted pants, prune trees, secure equipment, carry out necessary maintenance, secure shutters Ø STOCK UP ON EMERGENCY SUPPLIES v Fuel, water, dry goods, can foods, heavy duty charger, batteries, flash lights, medical supplies, generators Ø PROTECT ELECTRONICS AND DIGITAL DATA v Back up important data (flash drives/online service), update apps and download sites that will aid during storm, unplug and cover computers and equipment with plastic bags, store cell phones and accessories in plastic bags, satellite phones Ø FILL VEHICLES WITH GAS OR DIESEL AND HAVE CASH ON HAND

DURING THE STORM HUNKER/LOCK DOWN Ø Where possible, persons should retreat to a strong interior room without windows Ø Make provisions for guests based on your disaster preparedness plan Ø Make sure the gas and all appliances, mainly the kitchen stove, are turned off Ø Unplug any unnecessary or sensitive electrical equipment Ø Don't go outside until you're sure the storm has ended; winds will temporarily subside when the eye of a hurricane passes over but will start howling again Ø If possible, eyeball assets and get a head start on listing damages
