BARBADOS NATIONAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME JOB START PLUS


JOB START PLUS FLAGSHIP INITIATIVE OF NATIONAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT • Objective: PROGRAMME • To provide young people, not in employment, education or training, with a year of employment to gain work experience and to better position them for future employment opportunities after the programme. Output: Increased Youth Employment

Outcome: Increased Employability among the young people

Impact: Increased economic contribution of young people

NEEDS BASED

Career Guidance and Counselling

Psycho-social counselling

World-of-work training

Aptitude Testing and Literacy and numeracy skills training Certified Second Chance Education and Training Soft Skills Development

Citizen Education and National Service


JOB START PLUS: FOUR KEY COMPONENTS 3. Privately Funded Job Placements (Stipend $135 per week)

4. Development of a Youth Network


EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT: BEFORE PLACEMENT Step 1: Employers register for the programme online through Client Management System Step 2: HRD Unit will collaborate with the employers to develop a Placement Plan following a standard template. Step 3: HRD Unit will arrange a visit for a site inspection to ensure that the working conditions satisfy pre-determined standards. Step 4: Employers will enter into a Job Pact- an official partnership arrangement with the Government


EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT: DURING PLACEMENT  Employers recruit from pool of registered job seekers following the process agreed in the Placement Plan.  After job seeker is selected, a contract is signed between the young person and the employer.  All placements must submit monthly work log sheets endorsed by the employer to monitor performance.  Employers are expected to accommodate the developmental interventions.
