Neighborhood Spring 2021

N E WS

From the Administrator’s Desk The past four months have been a blur, but we as a facility have done exceptionally well keeping COVID out of our facility. A huge thank you to our staff who have remained safe in the facility and within the community. I also want to thank all the family members who have remained home when not feeling well. This has been a big part of our success at keeping the virus at bay. Currently the Brookings County positivity rate is at 7.2% which enables us to allow more in-room visitations from family and friends. Nothing pleases me more than seeing families reunite after the long 2020 we have all experienced. We will be opening up for courtyards visits again once the weather warms up a bit more. Outside visits are much safer than in room visits and I would prefer these whenever possible. I think South Dakota is doing very well with the vaccination process and I pray that soon we will be closer to a new normal. This past quarter we have started to allow for music groups to come in and perform for your loved ones. Everyone is thrilled to hear/see live music again. What a blessing! I do have some sad news that I need to share with all of you. I have accepted an Administrator position with Good Sam/Sanford in Sioux Falls with April 16th being my last day at The Neighborhoods. I have been with the Brookings Health System for nearly 10 years and they have been the best 10 years of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better organization and team to work with. This was a very hard decision for my family and I but we decided as a family it was the right thing to do at this time. I have loved every minute I have been here and I will cherish all the residents and staff. I am excited to see what the future holds for NBV, because I know it will be very bright. The NBV team will continue to do great things and I have no doubt that we will find an outstanding new Administrator that will help lead the way. I want to thank all of you for all of your continued support throughout my journey with Brookings Health System. I will forever be grateful. Best wishes and may God Bless you all! Sincerely,

Jason Hanssen, LNHA Administrator

We teamed up with Mrs. Gehring and her students from Medary Elementary on Read Across America Day!

We don’t know who made this game up, but we do know that we don’t want to play it again. Wowzers! Some of those Jelly Beans were TERRIBLE!

Ask and you shall receive is what we say! And if you want, you can even help make it. Baking continues to be one of our favorite activities.

Maple Ridge & Ash Boulevard We celebrated two birthdays recently here on Maple and Ash. Happy Birthday to Margaret and Bob!

Crafts continue to be a favorite activity here. We have quite the Crafting Club. Thanks to our CNA staff, the ideas for projects seem to be endless. Margaret, Lola, Darlene, Dee, Lois, Carolyn, and Delores are always willing to try anything including getting a little messy at times.

Have you ever heard of Nerdy Nuts? It is a small-batch peanut butter company based in Rapid City that makes fresh-ground, homemade flavored peanut butter right in the owner’s kitchen. We ordered a sample pack of four different flavors and taste-tested it on apples, bananas, and crackers. Delores, Lois, Mary, and Deen agreed you can’t go wrong with tasty peanut butter combined with Happy Hour!
