2022 HOPE APPEAL IMPACT REPORT
Your faithfulness and your generous support of the 2022 HOPE Appeal has touched the lives of individuals and families throughout the Diocese of Syracuse. You have made a difference by enabling our staff and volunteers to accomplish the work we are called to do. Together we are stronger. We are the body of Christ.
On behalf of every person who was lifted up and surrounded by the love of God through the ministries of our diocese, thank you and God bless you!
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
You are the light of Christ in our community.
I am humbled and inspired by your generous response to our 2022 HOPE Appeal. Since September, over 17,000 individuals and families in our diocese have come together as one Church to answer the call, “You are the light of the world. Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” —Matthew 5:14,16
I see God’s light in the smiles of our children as they learn about the love of Jesus in our Catholic Schools and our parish catechetical programs. I see the glowing and comforting presence of Christ as a chaplain sits bedside and assures a person that the Lord is present and they are loved. I see Christ’s light grow as families are welcomed with respect and grace as they receive necessities at Catholic Charities.
I am pleased to present this report in appreciation for your gifts, while also recognizing our responsibility as stewards of the gifts entrusted to us. Again, I want you to know that 100% of your contribution goes toward the stated case of support as outlined in this report.
I will remember you and your intentions in my prayers and Masses. I ask you to please remember in your prayers the people we are blessed to serve and me in my unworthy service to the people of this great diocese.
In the Name of Jesus,
Most Reverend Douglas J. Lucia Bishop of Syracuse

Campus Ministry
“The Newman Community on campus offers me such a wonderful sense of community and belonging. Father Jason is an all-star priest, and I absolutely love spending time with my fellow Catholic students. This is the rst time in my life I’ve ever been regularly going to Mass, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Now that I have the freedom to do this, I took the opportunity to become con rmed, deepening my faith and connection to the church.”

“Thanks to the Catechesis Program with funding from the HOPE Appeal, I was able to take classes which gave me the con dence and leadership skills that I needed for my new position as a catechetical leader. The support and guidance was amazing. I gained the knowledge and organizational skills to help promote Family Catechesis at my parish. I cannot begin to thank the HOPE Appeal and Andrea Slaven, director of the program, for all the support and knowledge that has been so valuable and bene cial to run a Faith Formation program. I would not have such a successful program without their support.” —Mary

Formation for Ministry
“When I started Formation for Ministry I had few expectations. I could not have predicted the effects of the last two years. People are so amazing, so different, so full of rough edges and quirks. I have gained evidence of that community. That evidence has made me a more prayerful, joyful, and con dent Catholic.” —Formation for Ministry participant
