Boys Home of Virginia “A successful man has to start somewhere� founded by The Reverend George Floyd Rogers Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Covington, Virginia BOYS HOME OF VIRGINIA cares for & educates boys ages 6 - 18.

Our PURPOSE is to provide a caring & nurturing environment in which youth under our care can attain the mission & goals of BOYS HOME OF VIRGINIA. The MISSION of BOYS HOME OF VIRGINIA is to help each resident strive toward becoming a productive member of society by developing his spiritual, mental, physical & social potential.

All successful men were once boys. But not all boys become successful men. Whether it's due to a lack of positive role models, quality living circumstances, or a welcoming school environment. We provide each so that boys can go on to be successful men. Men who will take care of their families. Men who will contribute their gifts. Men who will be role models for the next generation of men.

At Boys Home of Virginia, we show our boys that every day is a step toward that success.

A Message from the President On behalf of the Boys Home Board of Trustees, I would like to thank you for your generosity this past year. Your financial support allows Boys Home to continue providing young men from difficult backgrounds with the opportunity to grow into successful men in a caring, Christian environment. Your contributions make a real difference in the lives of the boys in our care, and we are sincerely grateful.

Following last year’s decision to pursue independent school status, we are excited to begin our first full year as an independent school in the fall of 2018. We feel that this change is the best decision for our young men and will help them excel academically, as well as giving them the opportunity to gain skills in the applied trades.

A Message from the Executive Director Once again, I have the privilege of thanking you for contributing to the mission of Boys Home. Throughout the years, as Boys Home has grown and changed, donors such as you have responded with incredible generosity for which we are sincerely grateful.

As we look forward to becoming a fully accredited independent school, we are carefully considering the educational needs of our population. Educating all of our young men on campus will enable us to meet each student at his point of need and provide him with the support he needs to achieve his goals. This necessarily will mean adding to our teaching staff, which represents a significant expense. Despite the expense, however, we are confident this approach will provide great value to our residents and set Boys Home on a positive and productive course.

By giving to Boys Home, you help so many youth grow into successful men and productive members of society. We invite you to come visit us at Boys Home and see for yourself everything you help make possible.

Contributions The geography of our campus – the Old Village which was nestled in the valley along Midland Trail, the Hill where we live today, and the sheltering mountains, Sugarloaf and Lick – is where we draw the names for our giving societies. The Mission of Boys Home is to help each resident strive toward becoming a productive member of society by developing his spiritual, mental, physical & social potential.

Boys Home assisted 81 young men and their families with services this past fiscal year.

The average length of stay was 1 year, 6 months and the average age was 15 years.

Intake & Evaluation - 30 to 60 days evaluation. Residents reside in the Wheatley Center.

Private Placements: 98.8% Public placements: 1.2%

Independent Living Skills Program - residents live in cottages with houseparents. All residents attend the oncampus Boys Home School.



Life Skills Training - high school seniors prepare for transition from living at Boys Home to life after high school graduation including community service & volunteering.



After Care - post high school education opportunities, housing & employment options.
