WILL THE YEAR KICK OFF WITH A SLOW MARKET? The Planet Mercury is in Retrograde from December 19 - January 8, when its orbit appears to travel backwards. Astrologists believe this causes a great disrupt in communications in our every day lives. Astrological advisors and those who believe in the powers of Mercury in Retrograde will not make any important life decisions during this time, which includes major financial decisions like selling or purchasing homes.

TOP NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS …………………………… for Homeowners

LOSE WEIGHT.

Your house is a glutton of energy , and it’s time to tighten the belt. Start with your HVAC ductwork. By sealing and insulating your ductwork seams, holes, and connections with duct sealant (called “mastic”), you’ll save as much as 20%, or $200 per year or more in your heating and cooling costs.

STAY HEALTHY. The EPA lists indoor air quality as one of the top environmental health hazards. Indoor pollutants like dust, mold, pollen, or viruses are at their worst during the winter when doors and windows are sealed tight. You can breathe easier when you change your furnace filters regularly using the highest quality of filter you can afford. Use your vent hoods when cooking and fans when using the bathrooms. If you’re using a fireplace, burn real wood instead of artificial or pressed products that may contain formaldehyde.

GET OUT OF DEBT.

GET ORGANIZED.

Homes

Creating a yearly budget for home improvement and maintenance helps prevent overspending, and encourages you to put aside money for major replacements — like a new roof or a kitchen appliance — that arise every few years. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans can expect to spend roughly $3,300 per household per year on home maintenance.

That clutter has got to go! Search the internet for storage solutions that will fit your home. More easily accessible storage space means more organization, which ultimately means a cleaner house, and less stress for you. Need a new idea? Try a hanging shoe organizer in the pantry or hall closet, and store your sipper cups, seasoning packets, cleaning bottles, or smaller items inside.

WORKOUT. Not motivated to make it to the gym? Kill two birds with one stone and tackle those DIY projects. You can burn calories while you work: Building a Fence burns 340 calories per hour. Caulking windows and doors: 280 calories per hour. Clean the gutters: 272 calories per hour. Installing ceramic tile: 238 calories per hour. Mowing the lawn: 306 calories per hour. Gardening: 204 calories per hour. Painting: 136 calories per hour. Fixing broken appliances: 238 calories per hour.
