What Is Wastewater Management In India Like? Water is one of the basic necessities of human life and one of the most commonly used commodity in a house. But, water is a limited resource and needs to be treated in order to be reused. And for this reason, there has been a considerable leap in the amount of wastewater management in India as well as in foreign countries. Before this, there was a huge gestation period in the formation and the treatment of the sewage water, which has reduced marginally now in many countries. However, India still lags behind as compared to other countries due to insufficient treatment plants and the poor maintenance of the ones that exist. Many surveys, some of which conducted by the government commission have reported a need for increasing the number of treatment facilities and also upgrading the ones that exist. Wastewater treatment in India does not reach the required standards. 26.5 billion of wastewater is dumped in the major water bodies without any treatments each day. Even the big cities are unable to treat all the sewage water that they generate; in fact, they only treat half of the wastewater that they create. Many think that wastewater management in India should take a creative turn and use the sewage water for agriculture and industrial purposes, where it will be utilized for what it is. How to use the treated sewerage water? Even though it is an effective solution, but not all sewage water can be used for just those purposes. The rise in the population, which inevitably results in the increase of the usage of water, cannot be met without wastewater treatment in India.
