Battersea Church Road Housing, London

This project involved designing a multi-family residential development in Battersea, a prominent district in North London, in an environmentally sustainable manner. The 3 acre site was situated adjacent to a mid rise housing estate in close proximity to the Thames River. The project was a team endeavor comprising colleagues from Thailand and China.

We started with mid-rise height box which is 14 storeys to prevent overshadowing neighbours and located the building to the Bolingbroke Walk Road to avoid shadow from Selworthy tower. 4. We cut the building to the half and replace the units along the Battersea Road to make the building can receive more sunlight. 2. 3. 4. 5. We cut the height to 11 storeys and replaced the units with the small part. 7. We created the void connecting river side and the building, as well as connect the courtyard and other green open space. 6. We added the curve-balconies for the courtyard view and the river view, and to prevent over heating in Summer. 5.

The central design feature of the concept christened ‘Neo Homes’ were curvilinear wrap around balconies to maximise the views of the river. The ground floor was designed as a retail floor and civic amenities. The design was based on and tested using environmental simulations developed in Ladybug Tools, Honeybee and Open Studio. My role was design conceptualization, master planning, landscape design, simulations, and preparing presentations and the Final Report.

Former Factory to Fusion Fitout, London

My dissertation examined refurbishment of derelict industrial buildings in London into Mixed Use conversions. The scope of the investigation was limited to non-listed factory buildings with built-up area ranging between 10,000 sq.m. to 25,000 sq.m. The merits of refurbishment of such buildings are known to be manifold. First is preservation of the rich industrial heritage which is an identity marker for The dissertation derived the the-

The range of the atrium size was proposed based on the tent of the passive zone.

To substantiate the daylight performance, the atrium proposed to be skylit and 4 skylight geometries were inves tigated. The triangular skylight yielded the best performance.

Two balcony possibilties were explored - the open typology created by outward projection of the existing floor slab the semi - enclosed balcony created by recession of the exte rior wall. Though more demolition is invloved in the semi-en closed typology, the residential unit with the semi-enclosed balcony demonstrated a better thermal performance.

A series of strategies inlcuding introduction of wall and wall on atrium adjacency, interior insulation on exterior walls, upgradation of single glazed windows to low- e argon double glazed windows, changing WWR from 30% to were simulated to achieve energy demand within the prescribed limits.

This was followed by fieldwork and analytical work to calibrate the base case and derive a range of performance standards for the prototype which formed the recommendations for the Toolkit for sustainable retrofit of such building typologies.

Project Description

My dissertation research enquiry centered Toolkit for Sustainable Retrofit of derelict in London into a mixed use building residential uses. The scope of the dissertation a non - listed prototype factory building to 25,000 sq.m in area and studying performance and the resulting energy and residential components only of the

Methodology

The methodology consisted of identifying constraints of the prototype located in review yielded the baseline metrics for ergy demand of such buildings. 3 case use retrofitted factory buildings were a benchmarking for the metrics for the basecase performance of the and strategies were proposed to optimize against the metrics yielded by the literature case examples.
