Jada uses the extended Power Hour program at her Club to complete her assignments, get encouragement and academic support from Club staff, and take advantage of tutoring opportunities in an intimate setting.
I love coming to the Club for Power Hour! The Club staff always check my homework to make sure that it is right, and I can read my favorite books when I finish!
Youth,
Lied Memorial Club Member
Most members don’t have the resources at home to ensure homework completion. At the Club, we offer academic support and opportunities like Power Hour, where youth can not only complete their homework, but double check it for accuracy before turning it in. We also make learning fun, because when our kids come straight from school, they want to feel like the Club environment is different than their classroom. Programs like DIY STEAM/STEM and Summer Brain Gain provide kids with hands-on activities, projects, and learning opportunities to grow and build new skill sets throughout the year.

After a four-month selection process, 5-year member of the John C. Kish Clubhouse, DeMelle C., was selected as our Southern Nevada 2022 Youth of the Year. DeMelle’s journey continued as he became the 2022 Nevada State Youth of the Year, then a finalist in the 2022 Pacific Region Youth of the Year competition
I grew a great deal from the Youth of the Year Program. During the journey of becoming Nevada’s Youth of the Year, I realized I can use my artistic passions to bring awareness to issues my generation is facing. Through hard work and the support of friends, family, and mentors, my abilities grew each day, and I was excited for what the future will hold for me. The Club has given me so many opportunities over the years, and I’m excited to take these lessons and use them in my next chapter of life. I’m very grateful and proud to be a Club Alumni!
2022 Nevada State Youth of the Year
I never felt like I had a voice when I was a teen, so it’s important to me to give our teens a voice when it comes to Club programs and projects. Being the advisor for Young J.E.D.I. and Keystone Club allowed me to coach our young leaders in their planning and gave me an opportunity to see what they were capable of.
I look forward to increasing teen attendance in my Club and encouraging our teens to continue advocating for things that are important to them.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
As leaders on the field and in the community, the National Football League (NFL) supports player engagement and our Character & Leadership programs. Players from the Las Vegas Raiders, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and some NFL Alumni joined our Young J.E.D.I. council members for a Social Justice Town Hall. The group spoke about challenges around racial injustice, mental health, gender equality, and the education gap in Southern Nevada, and the roles we play to find solutions that will work for all of us. The NFL's support boosted the confidence in our teens and encouraged their youth voices to be heard in our community.

Our staff gives us time to talk about our creative ideas. We need that time to share so we can see and understand each other’s vision. We live in the Westside, so there are a lot of things we could do out in the streets, but our Club and the staff give us opportunities to express ourselves. For a lot of us, this is the only creative outlet we have, so I always do my best. I get a lot of encouragement from staff while doing art and I’m grateful for that.

Since starting as a Creative Arts Specialist, I have had the opportunity to facilitate the National Fine Arts and Drama Matters programs. Our Creative Arts programs give youth opportunities and access to step out of their comfort zone in a safe space to explore their creative side. They participate in competitions where they can win prizes or go on field trips. I believe it is important for children to participate in all forms of art whether it is drawing, painting, acting, photography, dancing, singing, producing, etc. Art engages youth in open-ended play and supports the development of cognitive, social-emotional, and multisensory skills. I think the biggest positive outcome that members gain from creative arts is confidence, both in their artwork and within themselves. I’ve seen my members gain so much confidence in the art room since I’ve been here and I’m grateful that I can guide them through art exploration.

THE ARTS PARTNER HIGHLIGHT RESORTS WORLD LAS VEGAS

In addition to helping with the art piece, they hosted a few groups of youth over the summer to tour the elephant parade and learn about elephant conservation.

I really enjoy our SMART Moves program. Some of the lessons I learned are to set boundaries, take better care of myself, and always talk to someone that I trust. In some cases, I learned that friends can’t always help you and that you should at least have one adult that you can confide in, like staff at the Club. I appreciate the programs that the Club provides because they help me become the best version of myself.
Youth,
Isabella R., Donald W. Reynolds Club Member
I had a good experience during the ALL STAR Leagues, especially basketball season because I was able to improve my shooting and dribbling skills. One thing I learned about was good sportsmanship. Before and after every game, we would circle up with the other team and our coaches, and Mr. Terry would talk to us about what it meant to be a good sport - that we should show each other respect no matter if we win or lose. It was also very fun winning the championship, playing with my friends and bringing the trophy home to our Club.

Preparing Youth for Life with A Plan for the Future
To help young people meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow, they need safe spaces, positive mentorship, and work experiences. As they prepare to enter the workforce, young people receive formal and informal career exposure to help them explore interests and passions. They also apply knowledge to real-world work experiences and develop skills, like time management, for employability. Through work-based learning opportunities like internships and first jobs, members can explore potential careers - opening them up to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.

The Club gives us real opportunities that prepare us for life. The new Club Leader-In-Training Program was challenging this year. I was assigned to the front desk and had to participate in weekly professional development workshops where I created a resume, went through mock interviews, wrote a resignation letter, and learned about taxes and a 401k. It was tiring but it made me appreciate my staff a little more because what they do is hard. Our financial literacy program, Money Matters, also taught me the importance of saving. During the Money Matters Reality Store, I learned that childcare is really expensive so you shouldn’t have kids until you’re ready for them. Youth, Matthew A.,

My favorite part of my job is getting to see teens get hired on for positions they worked throughout the year. The new Club Leader-In-Training (L.I.T.) Program was more intentional this year, and I got to watch our kids grow in their assigned Clubhouse Departments. As a staff member, I got to make sure they had the tools and resources to build a professional portfolio after each of our 15-week programs. Our Career Exposures were also a fun, exciting way to get youth interested in career paths across different industries.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PARTNER HIGHLIGHT ADIDAS OF LAS VEGAS
We have had the pleasure of hiring a total of 6 employees from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. The best parts of working with Club youth and alumni are their confidence in working as a team and flexibility in constant changing situations. All of our Club hires have been great at receiving feedback and taking action on direction as soon as it’s delivered. From my experience, the new joiners from the Clubs really enjoy working with the team. We have always enjoyed partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs and look forward to future collaborations and events.

WHATEVER IT TAKES TO PROVIDE GREAT FUTURES
We rarely take a single approach to making sure kids succeed.
There is extraordinary potential inside every young person. Clubs provide safe places, quality programs, and caring mentors - but to ensure every kid in Southern Nevada has a great future, we need to do more.
To fully unlock this potential, Clubs must be better-equipped to meet kids where they are. "Optimal youth development" is a formidable challenge - one that means more integrated delivery of programs and support services, the influence of professionals with specialized skill sets, and mentors who actively model the lifelong learning journey.
We’ve started this work by partnering with institutions of higher learning, then engaging faculty and students in Clubhouse work programs. Faculty and students need practical applications of studies, and we need passionate skilled labor in areas like education, psychology, and social work. By supporting these paths to licensure, we attract professionals aligned with our vision, better retain talent, and model a lifelong learning journey for our Club youth.
"Meeting kids where they are" is a literal challenge, too. We're committed to providing life-changing Club experiences and opportunities to kids where they live, their socio-economic status, or their access to private transportation after school. partners, programs, and solutions to transport more kids to our Clubs can help us turn more dreams into realities. Every kid deserves the chance to realize their own limitless potential.
When it comes to creating Great Futures, we'll do whatever it takes.
Thank you for your partnership and shared commitment to our mission.
