THAT'S A WRAP ON SUMMER CAMP

The Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest is thrilled to announce a successful summer with over 609 unique children enrolled in the three communities - Framingham, Hudson and Marlborough.

In total, BGCMW offered 709 summer camp slots in the Framingham Clubhouse, 1,184 in the Marlborough Clubhouse, and 839 in Hudson Clubhouse.

This incredible turnout is a testament to the dedication of the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to create engaging and enriching experiences for the youth. Each program was designed to foster creativity, build confidence, and encourage teamwork among members. To ensure that every child had the opportunity to participate, we provided $91,500 in scholarship (continued)

dollars across all four programs. Additionally, twelve children’s fees were waived from homeless shelters in our communities.

This summer program also had a thriving CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program, with twelve teens gaining valuable experience and preparing for future counseling roles at the Club. Additionally, six MA Hire youth workers supported the summer programs in between our Framingham and Marlborough Clubhouses.

The commitment to providing enriching programming and experiences was evident in the 75 field trips the Clubs organized across all three communities. While transportation costs totaled just over $25,000, the trips themselves were estimated to cost around $10,000

This summer was a success, thanks to the dedication of our staff, the support of our community, and everyone who contributed to this successful summer The Clubs look forward to continuing to provide exceptional

MEET MARLBOROUGH CLUB MEMBER, AMINA

AMINA, HOW DOES YOUR DAY BEGIN HERE AT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB?

I get here in the morning and go to my group. I am in the 8-9 group. Usually, we are still in the games room to start our day or sometimes we go up to the learning center. I get to play tournaments but mostly I like to talk to my friends first thing. The tournaments are at bumper pool, air hockey, knock hockey, or foosball. I like to sit with my friends and do board games, talk to them, or talk to the staff. Each day we do art projects, science activities, play games, and go to the gym On trip days we do fun field trips to beaches and stuff

WHAT DOES THE CLUB MEAN TO YOU?

To me it’s a privilege, I feel happy to go here. My mom works so it’s a help and I like that.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST AT THE CLUB/SUMMER CAMP?

Summer Camp! In summer camp you have a group to go together to do fun things. In summer there are trips to beaches, parks, and other fun things come to the club like the science lab, and we do field days at the park. After school, I really like Torch Club. I got to join Torch Club this year and work at the snack shack. It was my 1st year to do that.

HOW HAS THE CLUB HELPED YOU?

The Club has helped me learn I get help with things from staff like learning new games, or how to do something I didn’t before The club has helped me make friends. Before I started I didn’t have that many friends and it was harder. At the Club, I have made more friends.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE CLUB?

That’s hard. Well, it’s you, like the staff I mean. They are nice and help me learn They sit and talk to me, they ask me for help with things that I like to do

STEM MOBILE VISITS THE CLUB

The National Grid Foundation introduced our Clubs to Change Is Simple! Change is Simple’s mission is dedicated to instilling social and environmental responsibility through hands-on climate change education that motivates meaningful action Their visit to the Marlborough Clubhouse this summer was an unforgettable day full of excitement and discovery!

The Change is Simple crew ' s STEM mobile was a hit, offering hands-on activities such as constructing solar panels, and wind turbines and making paper from scratch. Children enjoyed engaging in outdoor games and had the opportunity to explore nature by digging up worms! From learning about renewable energy sources to connecting with nature, Change is Simple made sustainability both fun and interactive.

This initiative provided a solution to combat summer learning loss. We extend our gratitude to the National Grid Foundation and Change Is Simple for creating this amazing experience!
