A Message from our President & CEO Gabrielle Webster Dear Friends, We extend our warmest welcome and deepest gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support of our 19th Annual Youth & Real Estate luncheon. Your presence and support of this event is a testament to your dedication to our cause. It brings us immense joy to share not only our accomplishments but also our aspirations.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, ‘Behind the Blue Door’ represents the gateway to countless opportunities that await the youth who enter our Clubs each day. It is a symbol of hope, growth and transformation. Our members are not mere observers; they are active participants in life-changing experiences. Whether it’s immersing themselves in STEM activities, gaining essential workforce readiness or honing character and leadership skills, our young members are on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Our core belief is that now, more than ever, it is imperative to equip today’s youth with the knowledge, tools and skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy. Our dedication knows no bounds, and we tirelessly strive to be the beacon of hope and support for young individuals who deserve a chance at a better future.

BLUE DOOR AWARD RECIPIENT

CHRIS CLEMENTE Chairman of the Board, COMSTOCK Chris Clemente founded the Comstock organization in 1985 and managed its growth and diversification as a private enterprise until the 2004 initial public offering of Comstock Homebuilding Companies, Inc., now known as Comstock Holding Companies, Inc. Since the IPO, Mr. Clemente has served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer and chairs Comstock’s Executive Committee. Mr. Clemente is also Managing Member of Comstock Partners, LC (“Partners”), a familyowned, private company founded in 1999 to focus on commercial real estate development and investment.

Following its IPO, Comstock expanded its for-sale homebuilding operation into multiple key markets in the southeastern United States, while the commercial development operation of Partners remained focused on the Washington, DC market. In early 2018, Comstock announced its plan to wind-down its for-sale homebuilding operation and refocus on commercial development, real estate asset management and real estate related services. To anchor Comstock’s operating platform transition, Partners entered into a long-term, asset management agreement covering its portfolio of commercial properties, which has grown to include millions of square feet of stabilized buildings and development assets strategically located at key transit stations on Metro’s new Silver Line in the Dulles Corridor of Northern Virginia.

Mr. Clemente attended the University of Wisconsin and George Mason University where he studied Business and Psychology. Mr. Clemente and his wife, Tracy Schar, have been long-time supporters of numerous charitable organizations in the Washington, DC region that provide educational, housing, and other assistance to families and children in-need and that support international adoptions and foster care programs.

GREAT FUTURES AWARD RECIPIENT

HILARY PROVINSE Head of Capital Markets & Production Strategy, BERKADIA Hilary Provinse is the Executive Vice President - Production and Capital Markets and a member of Berkadia’s Management Committee. She oversees more than 350 experienced mortgage bankers, investment sales advisors and their teams located in more than 60 offices across the U.S. who serve clients across all multifamily and commercial real estate channels. Ms. Provinse manages Berkadia’s capital markets relationships and ensures that clients benefit from its market leadership and deep relationships with diverse capital sources.

In 2022, Berkadia’s combined production volume exceeded $57 billion, of which $35 billion was attributed to the mortgage banking division. Berkadia was also ranked as Freddie Mac’s number one conventional Optigo lender, Fannie Mae’s number two DUS lender and as the third FHA-insured lender nationwide.

Previously, Ms. Provinse was SVP and Head of Customer Engagement at Fannie Mae, where she managed the team responsible for all of Fannie Mae’s production activities and customer relationships – overseeing more than $100 billion of production during her tenure. Prior to joining Fannie Mae in 2003, Ms. Provinse spent 10 years on Wall Street in investment banking, working for Goldman Sachs & Co. and Bear Stearns & Co. Ms. Provinse has a Bachelor of Arts in history from Dartmouth College and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Board of Governors (COMBOG), Chair of the ULI Multifamily Green Council and a member of the International Women’s Forum.

MARTIN K. ALLOY AWARD RECIPIENT

CHRIS SMITH Chairman & CEO, WC SMITH Chris Smith, CEO of W.C. Smith Company, has led the company to become a DC industry leader in the development of multi-family housing.

Initially specializing in the rehabilitation and revitalization of challenged neighborhoods, he has expanded the company’s portfolio to include innovative market rate housing as well as commercial and office developments. With a lifelong commitment to community service, he has fostered a culture within WC Smith of improving the quality of life for residents of the District. Chris joined the company in 1974 which was founded and led by his father, W.C. (Bill) Smith in 1968. Chris attended Villanova University.

Meet Our “Blue Table” Talk Host

Kelsey Nicole Nelson Kelsey Nicole Nelson aka "KNN" is a trailblazing multi award-winning sports journalist and communications professional who has become an influential voice throughout the DMV. Kelsey is a proud alum of BGCGW’s Germantown Club. She attended the Club’s summer camps, after school program and was a member of the Keystone Club, which she credits for helping to further develop her leadership skills.

Kelsey is a multi-business owner of a podcast network and a media/ communications consulting company, a George Washington University professor in the School of Media and Public Affairs and Director of Communications for the National Foster Youth Institute.

Kelsey is a graduate of the Philip H. Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland-College Park receiving her Certificate in AfricanAmerican Studies and her Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. She received her MPS degree in Sports Industry Management, with a concentration in Strategic Marketing, Communications & Digital Media from Georgetown University. Today, she works as a Capstone Advisor at Georgetown.

Kelsey sits as the Founder and President of Books Breaking Borders; Books to End Educational Bankruptcy. Later this year, she will launch the KNN Foundation, dedicated to educational freedom, financial empowerment and investing in communities.

For her work in the community, Kelsey was awarded the Luminary Award by the Thursday Network of the Greater Washington Urban League, the NABJ Sports Task Force Service Award and a President’s Volunteer Service Award! This year, Kelsey was also named to the 2023 Emerging Leaders Awards (ELAs) class by Washington Women in PR. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

BGCGW CLUB MEMBER AND SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL YOUTH OF THE YEAR, ABIGAIL A., IS WORTH CELEBRATING!

On October 5th, Abigail competed in New York City for National Youth of the Year. While she didn't bring home the title, she leaves an unforgettable mark on everyone she came into contact with as a Greater Washington Club member.

Abigail has been a Club member since she was five years old. She says that she found her Club to be a refuge and a safe place where she could find her voice and be heard.

What's next? Abigail continues her freshman year in college and prepares for the future. Like many others, she will represent the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs as a productive, caring, responsible citizen. Her leadership, service and excellence as a Youth of the Year, role model and advocate for fellow Club members will continue to be an encouragement to the next generation of Club kids in the Greater Washington area and beyond.

Joe was a long-time supporter and dedicated member of the BGCGW family. He was a founding member of the Youth & Real Estate Luncheon, a past honoree and served on the BGCGW Metropolitan Board of Directors for 15 years.

In his honor, the Joseph Stettinius Jr. Kids Fund was been created to offset and support the membership costs of youth in Washington, DC community.

To run our daily programs and activities, it costs BGCGW an average of $1,500 per child per year. We only charge the family $50, and we never turn a child away due to inability to pay.
