HABITAT x HUMAN Remediation via rhizospheric techniques is explored on site. The study of mycorrhizae’s interaction with the environment and its benefits mimics the symbiotic relationship of the riparian environment and its surrounding urban city.

An ecologically sensitive design approach to this soft-bottom river channel that considers the human experience and distinct ecosystems at various scales. RHI-Zone’s seasonality fluctuates as water levels and vegetation growth is unpredictable, but in order to maintain the riparian condition that exists, the implementation of more tree canopies and river channel earthwork aids with retaining water.

Porous spaces within cities hold design qualities for congregation and life. Within porous alley conditions, open space move upwards. LAyered alley, in the heart of DTLA, works with scale, diversity, ecology, and its lively adjacencies.

Taking a deeper look at the on-site conditions of the Orange County environmental vernacular allowed for seamless integration of design and landscape.

These considerations consist of circulation, programming, & an effort of bettering the human experience at this garden.

Transborder Landscapes Programme

- examines the Tijuana River juxtaposed between US and Mexico.

In response to the socio-economic impact the landscape poses, Transborder Landscapes looks at the Tijuana River, an interface between San Diego and Tijuana, to inform policy through design interventions, cartography, and agency through the local communities.

BORDERS DIVIDE, ENVIRONMENTS UNITE Tijuana and its adjacency to the border make the city one of the most relevant points of crossing on the US-Mexico border and in the world. Although Tijuana shares a symbiotic relationship with San Diego’s social, economic, andenvironmental landscape, the US / Mexico border boundaries separate the two countries.

Contrary to this physical separation, both the US and Mexico are connected by the environmental landscape systems that have existed within the regional landscape. One of the human-made systems developed to sustain this ecology and the Tijuana basin water accumulat i o n i s t h e Ti j u a n a R i v e r. W h i l s t t h i s w a t e r s h e d infrastructure was designed to mitigate floods in Tijuana and direct water to the Imperial Beach coast in California, since 1980, there have been significant floods in Tijuana that direct sediment, polluted, and untreated water to the California and Mexico coast via the Tijuana R i v e r. T h i s e x c e s s o f u n t r e a t e d w a t e r n o t o n l y affects the quality of life of folks in Tijuana but the California coast and its respective environments. The analysis of the landscape here has informed several thought-provoking solutions in efforts of bettering the urban infrastructure of Tijuana and improving the quality of life of people in both countries.
