MICRO INTERVENTIONS As an abstraction to the anatomical prosthesis, interventions are made in urban space. It not only optimizes the potential of unused spaces but also improves the quality of the neighborhood. In a good urban neighborhood, the ground floors of the buildings work symbiotically with the surrounding sidewalks and public spaces. Together they provide a continuous network of pathways and experiences. Diverse uses of ground floor spaces are conceived as a part of a connective system of public and commercial spaces. This creates a new type of community, consisting of those passing through, working and living within it. The degree of functionality can differ significantly from the scale of these interventions. The measure follows the question “What does the place need?”. Considering the human scale, a mix of uses, multifunctionality, flexibility, comfort and safety are important factors for designing a space that fits people’s needs. The ground floor of the existing housing complex defines a grid of vacant gaps, that can be filled with different functions.
